Harmony sat in a small room with her fellow initiates, Dauntless born and transfers alike. She was anxious. She had no idea what she was in for.

The first initiate to come out was pale and withdrawn making Harmony's anxiety spike. If they looked like that then what would she look like after it was her turn.

More and more initiates went in for their sessions. Some came back out while others didn't.

"Harmony?"

Harmony looked up to see Four standing there.

"Follow me." Four said.

Harmony stood and followed Four to a room that looked like the one she took her aptitude test in but without all the mirrors.

"Sit down." Four said after closing the door. Harmony obeyed wordlessly with a nervous countenance. Four, noticing this, speaks as he hooked her up to the computer. "We're going to access the part of your brain that processes fear through a simulation to see how you react."

"You can see inside my head?" That was a weird thought.

"Mhm." Four watched her for a moment, wondering if the reason she asked is because she's divergent. He remembered Tris asking the same thing and Tris was divergent.

"..Okay."

Four injected the fear serum into Harmony's neck and watched as she lost consciousness. He went and sat by the computer.

Harmony opened her eyes only to see nothing. She couldn't even see her own hands it was so dark. She felt her heart race as she looked around.

"Hello? Anyone here?"

There was no answer and panic lit in Harmony like the way a fire spreads wildly.

Harmony gasped as she sat up state. She bolted over to the trash can and vomited in it. She shook, panic still lighting her veins. She vaguely registered Four rubbing her back which soothed the nausea.

Four now knew Harmony wasn't Divergent. If she was he wouldn't have to pull her out of the simulation. She'd have recognized it wasn't real and gotten out of it.

"What happened?"

"Your vitals destabilized. I had to pull you out of the simulation."

Harmony frowned. "How long was I in there for?"

"Almost an hour. Come on, you can go out the back door. Rest up, you'll have to do that again."

Four stood and held out his hand. Harmony placed her hand in his letting her instructor pull her to her feet. "I have to do it again?"

"Yeah. You have to go in several times before the final test. Each time you'll find a new fear. Average fear number ranges anywhere from twelve to sixteen."

Harmony processed that as she left through the backdoor. She went straight to the chasm wanting to be alone for a while.
