Jazmine was once again in her bed. The whole breakup with Caesar and her kiss with Huey just made her head spin. This was all happening too fast. What surprised her most is that Caesar had not tried to contact her. Whenever a girl broke up with him, he always did these ridiculous romantic gestures to try and win her back. He would send roses, text messages, sing songs outside their house, he event sent doves to Diamond's house when they had that one break up. But she had not heard a peep from him since she broke up. Jazmine did not know to be happy or upset. Yes, she was glad that Caesar was not annoying her. But at the same time, she questioned if Caesar really cared about her.
Cindy sighed as she walked into her best friend's room. She hated seeing Jazmine like this. It felt worse that there was nothing she could do about it. Well, she could run Caesar over with her car. Nah, it wasn't worth the jail time. Besides, Cindy was positive that his mother probably beat his ass for what he did anyway. Though, maybe there was something she could do to help Jazmine…
Cindy smirked as an idea formed into her head.
"Alright Jazzy. This weekend- you, me, Virginia Beach? Whaddya say?" Cindy asked.
Jazmine looked at Cindy as if she were on drugs. "Virginia Beach? First off, it is Winter. Second, why drive the 4 hours or so it takes to get to Virginia Beach when we could just go the beaches in Maryland? Third of all…why?"
"Come on girl, it would be fun!" Cindy wrapped her arms around her. "There's more things to do in Virginia Beach besides the ocean. Besides, visiting Virginia Beach was a huge part of my childhood. My dad took me there every Summer." Cindy reminisced. "Hey, remember that time you got to come with us?"
"Yeah, it was like a week before we started junior high. Your parents actually argued the whole trip drive there." Jazmine frowned.
"Well…yeah." Cindy winced. "But other than that, we had fun! Remember how my dad let us walk by ourselves on the beach?"
"We ended up getting lost- "
"Girl stop trying to remember every bad thing that happened on that trip!" Cindy snapped. Jazmine sat up, quickly closing her mouth. "Anyway, we found that really cool cave. We carved our initials in it and everything."
"Oh yeah, we did do that." Jazmine reminisced. "That was actually my favorite part of the trip...maybe we should take the kids up with us!"
"The kids?" Cindy laughed. "Won't they…I dunno…kinda get in the way?"
"Cindy, you've been talking about taking Justin to Virginia Beach for ages now. Besides, if we go, you HAVE to bring Chanel. She's too young to away from you for a weekend. It wouldn't be fair to Justin for his baby sister to go and not him." Jazmine convinced.
Cindy sighed in frustration. "Fine, we'll bring the rugrats too."
Jazmine rolled her eyes at her friends. "Here, I'll ask my mom if she wants to come with. Maybe she can watch the kids for a bit while you and I have some girl time."
"Damn, don't you think it's kinda harsh to invite your mom to the beach, just to have her babysit?" Cindy asked.
"Please, my mom will do anything to have a weekend free of my dad." Jazmine chuckled.
"Alright, then it's settled. We are going to party in Virginia Beach!"
"Alright…I'm going to ask ONE more time- Does anyone need to go potty before we leave?"
"No mama."
"I went already Aunty Cindy."
"…I think I have to go."
"Jesus, go Jazmine!"
Cindy shook her head as she watched her friend scurry into the house. This was the first time in a long time that Cindy had been excited about something. She had not been to Virginia Beach since she was eleven years old. It was a tradition for her family to go every summer. What always made Cindy so excited was to spend time with her father. Cindy and her father always went out and did stuff while her mother stayed behind at the hotel they were staying it. Her dad would show her the town he grew up and in, and then they would visit his mother.
Now that she was going to Virginia Beach, she could take this time to see her family again. But she wasn't going to that. Her dad stopped being a father once the divorce was official. If Cindy wanted to talk to her dad, she had to put in the effort. When she turned 15, she decided to stop calling him. They went two years without speaking to each other. The last time Cindy had talked to him was when she told him she was pregnant. He went on this long rant about how he was "disappointed" and how "This would not have happened if he had custody of her". She ended up hanging up on him. Eventually, Cindy received phone calls and text messages from her family members calling her a skank and a whore for getting knocked up at seventeen. Cindy blocked her grandma on Facebook because she commented "bastard baby" on one of Justin's baby pictures. From then, she decided to leave her old family in the past, and just focus on her new family.
"Momma, do we get to keep this car?" Justin asked. For the road trip, Sarah was able to rent a minivan. Sarah would drive up while Jazmine sat in the passenger seat. Cindy would sit in the middle with baby Chanel, while Lela and Justin sat in the third row. The van also came with a television, so the kids could watch some movies on the way there.
"No baby. We're just borrowing the car for the weekend." Cindy responded.
"I wish your car had a TV" Justin pouted.
"Me too." Cindy agreed.
"Alright you two." Sarah climbed out the van. "I just finished installing your car seats in. Both of you get back there so I can buckle you in."
"Okay, Grandma!" Justin and Lela responded. Cindy was grateful to have the Freemans' and the DuBois in her life. Sarah and Tom had always treated her like a second daughter. They would always let her sleepover whenever she had a fight with her mother. Then how Sarah was there for Cindy when she was pregnant. Sarah even let Justin call her Grandma, since he didn't have one.
"Thank you for coming on this trip with us." Cindy thanked.
"Of course Cindy! I'll do anything to have weekend away from Tom." Sarah joked.
"Yeah, Jazmine said the same thing." Cindy answered hesitantly.
"Oh Cindy, it's just a little married humor. You'll make the same jokes once you and Riley tie the knot." Sarah brushed off. Cindy hoped Sarah was right. Despite how much she loved Tom and Sarah, she knew their marriage was just a huge sham. Even Jazmine knew it was.
A few minutes later, Jazmine finally came out the house. Riley was following right behind her. He walked over and gave Cindy a hug,
"Now you behave yourself down there." Riley chuckled.
"You don't gotta worry bout me." Cindy smirked. "What are you going to do while I'm gone."
"Invite the homies over!" Riley cheered. Cindy rolled her eyes.
"Just clean up before I get back." Cindy patted her fiancé on the back.
"I will." He kissed her on the head, then leaned down to kiss Chanel on hers. "Imma miss my girls." He then looked over to Justin. "And my boy."
"We'll miss you too." Cindy kissed him. "I love you, see you on Sunday."
"Love you too." Riley gave her one last kiss, waved goodbye to Justin, and headed on inside the house. He waited everyone to get in the van and take off. Pulling out his cell phone, he started dialing some numbers.
"McHater, get yo ass ove here! Nigga, fuck law school! Come hang with the boys!"
"Aye, Ceez, Mariah is gone for the weekend. Come on over!"
After the five-hour drive, they were finally in Virginia Beach. They would have gotten there sooner, but they had to keep pulling over whenever Chanel started to cry. But being stuck in the car for five hours, Lela and Justin had tons of energy they needed to burn off. While Lela and Justin ran around the hotel room, the three women sat and thought about something to do.
"Well, it's too cold to go the beach." Sarah said. "Or to do anything outside."
"Wait, there's this indoor playground that's up the street. We can take kids there!" Cindy suggested.
"Sounds good to me." Jazmine agreed. "C'mon you too. We're going to a playground."
"Yay!" Lela and Justin cheered.
Cindy was excited for them. She loved going to the indoor playground as a little girl. She was excited that Justin got to experience all the fun things she did when she was his age. They all took the elevator down, and walked the five minutes to the indoor playground. "Okay kids, you need to take your shoes off. Lela and Justin took their shoes off and handed them to their mothers. Cindy then squatted down to get on eye level with Justin.
"Now behave yourself, Justin." Cindy warned. Usually, Justin and the playground ended up with him getting in trouble. He was just like his daddy.
"I will." Justin said. "Can we go now?"
"Yes." Cindy sighed. Lela and Justin ran off to go play in the ball pit. The three mothers went to find a place to sit down. There was a baby section of the playground, but even those things were too big for Chanel to care about. So she just sat in the strollers while the women talked.
"It's so nice to be out and about like this." Jazmine smiled. "Felt like I haven't done that in ages."
"That's why I'm glad you don't live with me anymore." Sarah laughed. "Now that you are on your own, I can finally go out with my girlfriends and do other stuff I couldn't do!"
"Wow, thanks mommy." Jazmine rolled her eyes.
"Oh come on Jazmine! You'll feel the same way once Lela moves out." Sarah said.
"Please, she can't even handle it when Lela is at her dads for the weekend." Cindy joked.
"You two are mean!" Jazmine huffed. Cindy laughed and punched her shoulder.
"Thanks for inviting me over man. Glad to know we're still cool after everything that happened…"
"Hell yea nigga! You cheated on Jazmine, not with me! So I don't know why we still can't be friends!"
Caesar sighed at that last part. He had just gotten back from New York, and he was glad. He could not go five minutes without his mother reminding him about how he was a cheating piece of shit. Of course Caesar knew that, and he felt terrible for what he did to Jazmine. In fact, he was downright disgusted with himself. He had wanted Jazmine for years now. Then when he finally gets her, he fucks it all up with his commitment issues.
"So, how are you and Diamond doing?" Riley asked.
"It's…complicated." Caesar sighed. "Neither of us spoke to each other while we were in New York. In fact, she actually moved out of my apartment a few days ago."
"She did?"
"Yeah." Caesar covered his face with his hands. "Here, I'll explain what happened…
Back in New York.
Caesar sat the table, looking down at his bowl of cereal. He had sat there for fifteen minutes, and had not bothered to take a bite. He did not feel like eating. In fact, he did not want to be here. All Caesar wanted to was get on a plane back to Woodcrest, drive to Jazmine's house, and tell her how sorry he was. But his mother made is perfectly clear NOT to do that. His mother was probably right. Him begging on his knees for Jazmine would not help his case.
Diamond could tell Caesar was troubled from just looking at him. She got up from the couch and walked over to him. She carefully wrapped his arms around him, laying her head on his shoulder. Caesar slowly leaned his head on his shoulder…
Nothing.
Diamond felt no connection from Caesar as she hugged him. It felt like she was hugging a rock. Caesar had been acting like this the whole time they were in New York. In fact, he started acting distant when Jazmine walked in on them that night. She sighed and pulled away from him.
"What's wrong?" Caesar asked.
"What's wrong!? This is what is wrong!" Diamond shouted. "You're distant and cold, which isn't the Michael that I know!"
Caesar stayed quiet.
"Do you regret what happened?"
"What?"
"Do YOU regret sleeping with me?" Diamond repeated. "Answer honestly."
"…. Yes." Caesar responded. "I hurt the love the love of life. The girl I've been wanting since I was thirteen…"
"She's the love of your life?" Diamond choked back. "You've wanted her since you were thirteen? So, all this time we were dating, you really wanted Jazmine?"
"No, that's not true!" Caesar spoke up. "Diamond, I really loved you when we were together."
"That's because I was a second choice!" Diamond shouted as tears ran down her face. "If Jazmine had never gotten with Huey, you would have NEVER gotten together with me! Don't try to tell me otherwise!
"Diamond, I- "
"Just stop, Michael." Diamond cut him off. "Look, we just, do not need to be together. If you love Jazmine, then try and find a way to win her back. Once we get home, Jamari and I will find a place on our own." She then walked away from Caesar. "Should have KNOWN this was going to happen." Diamond mumbled under her breath. "Niggas always choose the light skinned girls."
"Well damn nigga."
"I know. "Caesar groaned. "I never knew that Diamond felt like a second choice. I mean, I never looked at her like that when we dating. But after listening to her, I can understand why she feels that way."
"No shit nigga. You been droolin over Jazzy since the day you laid eyes on her. "Riley laughed. "But I thought that you and Diamond were better together."
"You think so?"
"Shit, you and Diamond go so well together! Ya'll are both goofy n all sporty n shit! Besides, I think we all know that Huey and Jazzy are gonna get back together sooner or later…"
"Wait, why would you think that?" Caesar asked.
"They've fucked twice already."
"THEY DID WHAT!?" Caesar yelled. He got up from the couch. "Where are my fucking keys?"
"Nigga what are doing?"
"To kick Huey's ass!" He looked up to see headlights shining through the living room. Caesar looked closer to see Huey pulling into the driveway. "Never mind." He growled as he stormed out the door.
"Aw shit!" Riley muttered under his breath. "Aye Caesar. Wait nigga!"
Huey got out of his car. He really should have been at home studying for law school, but Riley insisted on him coming over to hang out with "the boys.". Huey could have said no, but something in his mind pushed him come over. When he got out of the car, he saw Caesar storming up to him. Before Huey could say anything, he was met with a fist to his face.
"OW! NIGGA WHAT HELL!?" Huey yelled at him.
"Why the FUCK were you sleepin with my girl for!?" Caesar got in his face, his Brooklyn accent coming out in.
"What are you talking about!? I haven't even seen Diamond since she came back! Now get the FUCK out of my face!" Huey pushed Caesar away from him.
"Not Diamond! Jazmine!"
"Jazmine!? First of all, I have NOT had sex with Jazmine since Lela was fucking conceived. Second of all, if I DID sleep with Jazmine, it is none of YOUR business. You two aren't even together anymore!"
"You are a FUCKING liar!"
"Hey, Hey!" Riley intervened. "Caesar, calm yo black ass down!"
"Riley, YOU were the one who said Huey and Jazmine were fucking!"
Huey slapped Riley on the back of the head. "Nigga, Jazmine and I haven't fucked. We KISSED."
"You and Jazmine kissed!?" Caesar growled.
Huey rolled his eyes. "For the love of God! Look, I kissed Jazmine the day before you two started dating. She told me to fuck off and that we weren't getting back together. Then she came over to my house when she walked in on your dumb ass in bed with Diamond. We kissed again, almost took it that far, but I stopped it. Finally, we kissed under the mistletoe at her Christmas party."
Oh…" Caesar sighed.
"But once again, IF I were having sex with Jazmine, it would be none of your business. YOU fucked it all up Caesar! Now Jazmine is free to date whoever she wants, and if she decides to give me another chance, then you are just going to have to get over with." Huey stated. "Jazmine isn't your property, so stop fucking acting like she is!"
"I'm sorry, man…" Caesar backed up from him.
"I just want to know what the hell made you do it." Huey sighed. "You brag in my face for MONTHS about how you and Jazmine were so in love and happy. Then to go off and cheat on her?"
"I don't know." Caesar groaned. "We had gotten into an argument, then old feelings with Diamond resurfaced, then it just happened. But it was a mistake."
"Don't give me that bullshit, Caesar. It WASN'T a mistake. You could have said NO or simply, not slept with Diamond. Yet nothing in your head of your made you stop. Face it, you wanted to sleep with Diamond, because a part of you still loves her."
"You must be happy right now." Caesar laughed pathetically. "Jazmine and I were happy, until I fucked it up. Now you think you're back in the game-"
"You fucking idiot, Jazmine feelings aren't a game!" Huey spat. "I supported you dating my ex-girlfriend, despite my feelings for her. Because even though I am still in love with her, Jazmine deserves happiness. So I stood by and watched her fall in love with my "best friend". It hurt to see you together, but it was comforting to know that she happy with you, and that she was able to fall in love again. Now, you've done more damage to her emotional and mental state than I did."
"Huey…I'm sorry man." Caesar whispered. "I didn't even think about how hard it was for you, seeing us together. You're a good friend."
"Oh stop." Huey rolled his eyes. "I don't know if Jazmine will give you another chance. Cuz you sure as hell don't deserve another chance. But if she does, then you BETTER treat her 1,000x better than you did before." Huey turned to go his car. "Just remember, if she gives me another chance, I WON'T be taking your feelings into consideration this time." He then got into his car and drove off.
"Man, that nigga is gay." Riley mumbled. Caesar rolled his eyes at Riley before going back into the house.
Cindy watched Justin as he played in the ball pit. When he smiled, it kind of reminded her of her father. God, why couldn't she stop thinking about her dad today? Did she miss him? No way, she couldn't be missing her dad. He rarely crossed her mind as it is.
Her thoughts were distracted when baby Chanel started to cry. It was her feeding time, so she was probably hungry. She took Chanel out of her stroller to feed her. Now, Cindy was not afraid to breastfeed in public. She had no issue telling perverts and Karens to "fuck off". There was no way she was feeding her baby in some nasty ass bathroom.
As she was breastfeeding, she could just tell that someone was watching her. Cindy scanned the room until she met eyes with a woman. She had short dark brown hair, a long green dress, a sunglasses rested on her head. She looked to be in her late 20s to early 30s. The woman started to make her way towards her.
"You should move that to the bathroom. It is totally disgusting to have your tit out in front of everyone." The woman retorted.
"Bitch fuck you." Cindy said, giving her the middle finger.
"Excuse me!?" The women gasped.
"Breastfeeding is natural. If you don't like it, look away." Jazmine said calmly.
"Well I always fed my son in the bathroom!" The woman stated.
"If YOU wouldn't eat in the bathroom, then a baby shouldn't have to either." Sarah rolled her eyes. "Now, move along Karen."
Before the woman could say anything, Cindy heard her son crying. She quickly handed baby Chanel to Jazmine, fixed her bra, and ran to see why her son was upset. When she found him, he was fighting with another little boy over a toy. The little boy had blonde hair and blue eyes, just like Cindy's.
"It's mine!" Justin yelled.
"No, It's mine!" The boy yelled back.
"Justin, knock it off!" She walked over and tried to pull the toy away from them both.
"Hey buddy, stop that!" Cindy heard a male voice. She assumed it was the other boys father. The male walked up to them and yanked the toy away from them.
"Sorry about that." The male said. Cindy looked up to see a man in a Hawaiian shirt and some khaki shorts. But when she got a good look at his face, her eyes widen. His face was had the same look when he realized who she was…
"Cindy?"
"Dad?"
