Chapter 10:
Ichigo is on his bed laying there after taking a satisfying warm shower, washing away all the sweat and dirt from the soccer match. Currently, he is on the phone speaking to Orihime, reassuring her on the event that took place at their school earlier today.
News travelled fast. The wannabe thugs temporarily had lock down the school and demanded to see him, but it was taken care of by Ishida. He explained to her about the thief he encountered and these guys were some friend of his. They didn't like what he did to him, so they came over to school to try to settle the score and save their reputation. They tried to grand stand like out of some bad movie.
Ichigo was planning to take them away somewhere else so the rest of the school didn't get involved, until Ishida made things more difficult than they needed to be. He picked a fight with them. So he let the four eyed Quincy to handle the situation, he was after all the student council president, it was his duty. Plus it is a serious offense to get caught fighting on school ground with so many eye witnesses, it could be reported and he could be expelled. Moreover, it wasn't right for him to get into trouble over brain dead idiots trying to live out some bad movie by coming to school and challenge him.
Ichigo didn't think Orihime would hear about it that fast, but she was elated. She knew with his past delinquency, if he were to get a fight on campus, suspension or even expulsion wouldn't be out of the question. She could breathe easier knowing that Ichigo wasn't in danger of expulsion. While her school being at the mercy of a gang was bad news in its own right, what startled the healer was the information that supposed gang's target was her beloved Ichigo-Kun. As soon as she heard that, she demanded the second year student tell her everything. They had only learned a little from a friend still at school. The gang had appeared not long after she left. They were willing to hold everyone at the school hostage just to get their hands on Ichigo.
Their final year of high school was secure. Ichigo was less than thrilled. He knew Orihime would call in as soon as she heard the news. Technically, what Ishida said was true about him managing to attract trouble, but at the same time the Quincy was the one threw the first punch. Had Ichigo gotten his way he would have lead them away from the school. At least he was out of trouble.
"Thanks for calling in Orihime; I really appreciate your concern." Ichigo muttered
"I wanted to make sure you didn't get into trouble. I knew you could handle yourself in a fight, but I wanted to make sure that you didn't get reported." she replied
"You should get back to your work Orihime; I'll see you tomorrow in school."
"Ah yes…see you tomorrow Ichigo-kunnnn." Orihime stretched sweaty before hanging up.
She was never going to stop worrying about him, even if it meant risking being caught slaking on her job. It was annoying at times, but today wasn't one of those times. Orihime was there to support him no matter what. Her concern was just one of the many ways she showed it. If he was lucky she would never stop being concerned about his wellbeing even after he tells her about his powers.
Since Keigo and Mizuiro witnessed his powers at first hand, he now knows he needs to be more mindful on displaying his powers publicly. Ichigo remembered on what Zangetsu told him about not revealing his heritage and his powers to anyone until the right time comes for his own sake.
His scowl deepened thinking about Chad, he's been missing in school today. He also noticed Orihime was worried about Chad as she was discussing about it with Ishida and her other friends as to where might Chad be, and what in the world could have happened to him. They excluded him out of the conversation trying to act cool as if everything is alright, but what a pity Ichigo can read them all like a book. He giggled thinking about this ongoing drama.
Ichigo got up from his bed and headed to the window. Taking in some fresh air, he could feel the average reiatsu signatures from the neighboring Naruki City, the place where Chad has been hanging out with those people apparently. Not far from that place, he could feel his dad's reiatsu and Yoruichi at Uruhara's shop.
"They must have sensed it as well." Ichigo said to nobody in particular.
He hadn't heard from Urahara or Yoruichi after the war. Considering the roles they played in the circumstances of the war and the prelude to it, which involved using him to smoke out Aizen, Ichigo wasn't surprised. He didn't care much for Urahara, as his trust in the storekeeper had already deteriorated by the end of the war. His manipulations of Ichigo and his friends ensured that he would never be in the former Substitute's good book.
It was Yoruichi's absence that was more hurtful to Ichigo. He had a good bond after she had started to train him. She was like that crazy aunt that would visit every so often and embarrass him for her own amusement. Even though he complained about it a lot, he found that side of her endearing. Which was why he felt little betrayed when she simply disappeared from his life without so much as a goodbye. He knew he could find her if he wanted, but that kind of defeated the purpose of his plan. In the end, it boiled down to the fact that she was more loyal to Urahara and his plans, most of which seemed to involve manipulating him. It made him feel like after-thought. Like a piece that had been discarded from the chessboard. That was compounded by the fact that she was aware of his heritage and never told him anything. He expected something like that from Urahara but he had trusted Yoruichi far more than the shopkeeper which was why her actions, or inaction, in some cases stung a little more. He still cared for her, but he would walk his own path from now. It was sad to walk away, but sometimes you just had to stop flogging a dead horse. He is focused on his new life now and spending as much time with his sister as he could. He would move on and if he ever crossed paths with them again, he would greet them warmly.
"Oni-chan, dinner is ready. Come down." The sound of Yuzu calling distracted him from his thoughts. "Coming!"
"I'm gonna let them handle this shit." with that being said, he went down don't want to keep Yuzu waiting.
"Go home Chad, your friends must be worried sick about you." Ginjo said, and continued. "You don't have to come tomorrow, spend time with your friends; in fact we are all taking leave tomorrow." Ginjo said, now facing all thy others. Causing everyone to give him a disbelieving look.
"Right, see you guys." Chad took his leave with a nod.
"What is this all about, why the sudden leave?" questioned Riruka. But no answer came which increased her annoyance. "You called us all in for a meeting, start now by answering my question." Riruka spoke demanding him to answer with an irritated expression.
"You're not the only one waiting." Yukio said as a matter of fact causing Riruka to glare at him.
Ginjo took another sip of his beer before replying. "We'll start as soon as Tsukishima comes in."
The door opened with a heavy clang as soon as he said those words. An extremely tall young guy wearing a long-sleeved collared shirt with suspenders and dark pants walks in and leans on the wall, facing Ginjo.
Inhaling heavily, Ginjo gets straight to the point. "We need to change our plan, the whole plan we had concerning Kurosaki Ichigo."
He paused waiting for an outburst but surprisingly none came. The questioning look was there on everyone; even Yukio stopped playing his game. Waiting for him to speak, Ginjo thunder strucked his team about the outcome from the approach today and the new developments. Everybody was in the state of shock, except Tsukishima was able to maintain his composed nature, appearing calm and even carefree.
"What do we do now?! We've been exposed!" burst Yukio. Everyone could tell he was nervous because his voice was shaky.
"How did he know we were here?! It couldn't be Chad because he was with us all the time and we were under Yukio's Fullbring, which is impossible to be detected." Riruka exclaimed in confusion.
"Everybody Calm down." Ginjo replied with an exhausted sign. "Like I said he noticed my substitute badge flew out from my bag and he detected Tsukishima's reiatsu signature precisely. Plus he never lost his powers at the first place; it's just that he has different kind of powers which we not know. But we still can ambush him and steal his powers, there are seven of us and he's alone. What do you think Tsukishima?"
"Surprisingly, Kurosaki managed to detect us all in this town while we were still in Yukio's fullbring. The more unsettling matter is that, not a tiny bit of spiritual pressure can be detect from him. That is not something we can take lightly of. He could have contacted the soul society or Urahara but he did not, most probably he doesn't want the Soul society to suspect him still having his powers." he paused and walked over to the bar and gestured Giriko for a drink. "It could be a different kind of power, the kind that could put him at risk if soul society finds out. Nevertheless, he displayed his powers to you Ginjo, just to give us a warning." He said those last words while looking at Ginjo.
"Right now we can't do anything other than to relocate and re-gather our Intels on Kurosaki." Jackie responded.
"She's right; it's too risky to stay here any longer." Giriko agreed
Ginjo nodded in agreement, "Yukio find us a place out of this town, we're moving tomorrow as soon as we get a nice spot."
"Wait, what about Chad?" Riruka asked.
"We can't have him, it'll be unsafe for us." Tsukishima replied, in which Riruka signed in understanding.
To be continued…
