Dear Daisy,
This has been a very busy summer in Laramie. In preparation for the 4th of July, all the shop keepers decided to close their establishments. The citizens decided on a parade, a roping contest (Slim entered and won), a horse race, a target shoot contest, and a big picnic. Everyone had fun and I didn't have to arrest anyone.
I haven't seen much of Slim since then. He and Caleb are pushing the cattle to summer pastures and doing the regular upkeep. Stages are busier with new travelers and about the only time I see him is when he is in town to see Marcie.
Apart from some rowdy drunks, my jail has been mostly quiet. I'm even thinking of taking some time off to go fishing!

Mort POV:
I'm getting too old for this job. Oh, the town is fine and for the most part the citizens are right fine people. It's just that I have too many hats to wear.
Slim invited me to go fishing next week and I think I'll go with him. I need to find out what is going on in his head anyway.
I had a visitor today, by the name of Josh Cooper. He came with a letter from Reb, one of the US Marshals. Josh was one of their best but was injured during a gun battle and can no longer ride long distances. He says he's fine for serving on a posse but not for weeks at a time plus he has a young family. Reb thought I could use an extra hand out here in Laramie.
I think he will fit in quite well. I like him. It's not so much about his skills but his character. He had heard about Jess, of course. He said that Reb and Clint thought that Jess was probably in Canada or California. He didn't pass judgment on whether or not he was dead. He just assumed that for some reason he was still missing and sooner or later he would be found.
He wanted to get settled and spend some time getting around Laramie before he decided whether or not to work with me. I have decided not to tell anyone about him and his potential new job. I guess you can add "cautious" to my list of things about me.
