How did this happen? I mean, how is the girl in the room Noah Baraja? Is what you might ask.
Well let's not question the elephant in the room and let's focus on how did the elephant get there in the first place shall we?
"So basically, captain… Remidios scouted… me as a… new member… of an unnamed… secret order…?"
"Correct.", Said Kelart whilst sipping her tea.
The garden in the holy palace was illuminated by the morning sunlight. The same place where Noah was knocked out mere 20 minutes ago.
"Why…me, and... why did... you knock me... out?"
The room's temperature rises a few Celsius. And as if Kelart was waiting for that question, she replied Noah with three words:
"For your first question, ask my sister."
"Right…"
Noah turned his face towards his idol and source of nightmare, Remidios. Without a doubt, Noah saw a face of someone screwing up something so major that even God would be disappointed.
Cold sweats breaking here and there around her face, all the while looking for a reason under her unpractical brain. Meanwhile her smarter younger sister is letting out a tremendous smug aura while looking at her sister's struggle.
"Well… you see… right! I see a lot of potential from you!"
"Such as?"
Kelart questioned her own sisters reasoning. Like cutting of a disabled man's genitals, Kelart did the finishing blow to her sister's dignity and shattered all her hopes of trying to cover up her screw ups.
(Lady Kelart really lives up to her nickname doesn't she?)
There are some circulating rumours that the high priestess has "A smile of an angel but a heart of a devil". Apparently that was true and even I was surprised.
"…Was I perhaps… chosen out… of nothing but… sheer luck?"
Kelart shifts her attention back to Noah as she stares at his confused face.
"Nope… there was a reason for your summon. Though I have no idea what part of you managed to attract my sister's attention, and surprisingly enough, she forgot the reason."
In conclusion. Remidios choose Noah as the new member, wrote a letter to Noah, summoned him to the Royal Palace, did not told her sister the reason behind that, and forgot why she chose him in the first place. But to be fair, this had already happened twice before Noah.
(That's a bit disappointing…) thought Noah as he tries to realize how much of a fool he is to imagine himself becoming someone like Remidios.
It's like getting strength in exchange for your intelligence. And Noah himself knows first hand that that was the worst trade in history. He once looked at a certain friend of his and realized that there's no point in trying to be stronger if your brain has an IQ of a sleep deprived potato trying to do basic math questions.
"So! Since we have no idea what part of you is extraordinary compared to others, you will be given a task to prove your skills. Feel free to treat it like a test to see whether you are capable of being part of the order."
"I will... live up to... your expectations."
"Oh, I think this is too easy... you know, just giving you an easy task would lower the standard."
"Is that... true?"
"Oh yes it is"
(I think something's missing... what was it again?)
And just like that, Noah had completely forgotten to ask the reason for the entire "knocking him out" part.
Back to Present
Alfread is still interviewing her new junior for the past half an hour. Excuse my horrible choice of words, I believe "flirting" should be a better use of the English language. Given that he keeps asking unnecessary questions such as Noah's hometown, favorite food and family relationships.
(God damn it...)
Noah, despite being hit on by his own senior, he did not had any cards that can get him out of the situation. Worst case scenario, the man in front of him would talk his way to bed if he wasn't careful enough. And of course, in the name of god, sexual interaction between two men is very uncomfortable for most people. Most being the keyword.
Some might wonder: Why wouldn't he just tell him that he's a man?
I'm glad you asked cuz' here's why!
Kelart, being the devil she is, gave Noah a few extra condition. Those conditions are listed in the following:
1)Noah must cross dress as a woman until his task is complete.
2)No one must know his true gender.
3)Forbidden usage of a false identity.
The few extra conditions had successfully risen the difficulty meter all the way to 11. And rejecting those conditions would meant that Noah would be failing his test and therefore being rejected from the order, and since the order must be kept a secret at all costs, Noah would be disposed shortly after. Conclusion, he's in a situation that one wrong step could meet his demise. Getting killed is one thing, but dying because people found out that he's cross dressing is what cranks Noah's tension level to eleven.
"Hello? Are you listening?"
A gentle voice echoed beside Noah's ears. It was gentle and heartwarming, but that was what made Noah so scared.
According to information he heard from the guards, Alfread is known as the crown-prince of rage land and a master of being a dick. Those two combined should not give someone a good impression but here we are, Alfread is quite literally, acting like a charming prince.
What could have caused a short-tempered, raging storm to suddenly be acting like a tame, elegant white horse?
"Yes,...yes I...am."
"Good, your first job as my assistant, is to extract information from a specific prisoner that we have "In store", feel free to find me in my room if you have any difficulties."
(What a nice guy.) thought Noah.
(What a beautiful girl) thought Alfread.
It's been two hours since Noah's meeting with his senior. He was given a file, more specifically, his target. Located in the lowest levels of the underground prison, this man was kept under maximum surveillance and anti-suicide measures as he is a crucial member in the quote unquote "cult" that hides itself in the city of Rimun, using it as a base for their unholy operations. Or so says the files.
(Let's see... this guy killed his wife and children, was one of the main food sponsor for the cult and apparently cheated on his wife.)
The last part was unnecessary. But Noah had a clear idea on what he's dealing with.
The answer is the common sense of the people in Rimun is getting lower and lower for some reason. Because apparently according to the listed files, the man was being suspected of being a cult member is because "he didn't sell enough fish to be able to hold his family financial together".
(How is the a reasonable reason for suspicion? Did they check every single fishmonger in town and coincidently found an abnormality?) thought Noah as he slowly but surely marches his way down stairs.
Before he knows it, he has reached the location where his "patient" is currently being held at. Noah looked inside the cell, all he saw was a middle aged man in cuffs. There was nothing sort of "evilness" around him. He looked like a normal everyday man working day to day. If not for the files, Noah would had assumed that he was on the wrong floor.
"So... you're Alaster... Young?"
"Is that really a question?"
(An instant reply.)
The awkward moment of silent kicks in. Both parties had nothing to say and is forced to stay silent. Thanks to Alaster's quick reply, Noah is left in a state of vocabulary meltdown as he kept on questioning himself what should he do to get the man in front of him to sing like a bird. On the side note, this is Noah's first time interrogating someone. He's like a kid walking into a strip club and trying his best to fake that it's not his first time here while everyone else can tell that it's his first time here.
A painful amount of time has passed in Noah's mind.
During that period of time, Noah was in a state of panic where his mind is uncapable of being interrupted by any outside factors. Including the emergency alarm that is currently ringing at his back. Someone or something... has caused the alarm to go wild.
At the first floor, the bloods of the guard has already soaked the ground to the point where each step would guarantee leave a bloody footstep on the next. Standing amongst the blood puddles leaking out from the guards, was a team of men covered in dark yellowish robes. Amongst them, one stood out as a completely different being, he had the image of a team leader as he was completely different than the others surrounding him. Unlike the others, who used their oversized robes to cover their body and faces, the man wore a tuxedo and an empty mask. And yes, it's a mask with no holes or drawings on it.
"Don't we have a better way of infiltrating this place?" one of the man in yellow asked.
"I have an idea! Why don't you plan the next infiltration plan next time? If you can't, then shut the hell up! When we get back, I want you to look for any better breaching point other than the supply room! If you happen to not find any, I'll shove your face in boiling water! How about that!?"
The enraged gentleman yelled as if he lost the biggest bet in his life as the man that questioned him was on a verge of crying.
