Chapter 12

Nita headed for the cafeteria roof, by climbing up the drainpipe, where she saw the Doctor with the TARDIS. "Doctor? Doctor, I stuffed up. Susan king-hit me, she took the book and she drove away with it in her car. It's my fault Doctor, I should have gotten out of there sooner.

"No time for that now, which way did she go?"

"South, towards the railway line."

"Get in!"

The TARDIS flew unseen above Susan's car as she drove down Troughton Road. Nita watched her on the monitor. "There she is, Doctor. Let's land on her and cripple her car."

"Nita, we can't do that, the TARDIS would kill her."

"So, what do we do?"

"I have a plan."

Susan drove along, not noticing the flying TARDIS almost right behind her. Susan had the radio on. "Repeating tonight's earlier headline, strange lights were seen in the sky over Brisbane tonight."

Nita opened the door of the TARDIS and the Doctor handed her a pair of hover skates that he had picked up from the distant future. Nita put them on. She then took off and grabbed onto the back of Susan's car.

On Susan's radio: "Serving Brisbane and all of South East Queenland, you're tuned to 4IP, the sound of Brisbane." Susan adjusted the tuning a bit. Nita looked at the Doctor and gave him a thumbs-up. The Doctor gave one back and then the TARDIS flew off. "Turning to the community calendar, the Ipswich Country Women's Association Bake Sale will be held tomorrow afternoon from 2-5 at D'arcy Doyle Place." Nita moved around the car until she was hanging onto the side of it. "And now for the sports report. There was a lot of action today in the football. In VFL, Essendon narrowly defeated Carlton 8.5 to 7.14." Nita saw the Sports Almanac in the back of the car. "In Rugby League, South Sydney crushed Manly-Warringah 9-13." Susan grabbed the almanac just as Nita tried to grab it. "Past Christian Brothers beat Brisbane Easts 21-4. Fortitude Valley blanked Brisbane Norths 18-15." Susan was checking these results in the almanac.

"Crap!" muttered Nita.

"Strewth!" cried Susan, when she realised that all of the results she just heard were recorded in the almanac.

The radio announcer continued: "Saint George ripped the Roosters 17-10." Susan put the almanac on the seat next to her. Nita spotted her chance. "Parramatta lost to Balmain 14-12." Nita quietly opened the car door. "Western Suburbs defeated Penrith 12-11. Repeating tonights earlier news bulletin, strange lights were seen in the sky over southern Brisbane."

Susan looked around and saw Nita. Nita tried to grab the almanac. Susan turned to face the front again, before suddenly realising who it was and turning round again. She grabbed the book, as did Nita, and they had a tug of war over it.

"You again?!" cried Susan. "Give me that book! Let it go!" She kicked Nita, and the almanac flew in the air, landing on Susan's windscreen. Nita was still holding onto the car, and Susan spotted the railway lights ahead. "Let go of the car!" She drove around in circles, but both Nita and the almanac stayed attached to it. Susan drove forward, passing a sign, - "Railway Crossing Ahead". Susan drove the car close to the crossing lights, hoping to force Nita off. Nita got to the back of the car, and the side of the car was dented by the crossing lights. Susan looked around – no Nita. "That'll teach her."

Susan tried to grab the almanac, but as she did so she looked in the mirror and spotted Nita. Nita made her way towards Susan. Susan elbowed and punched Nita, and then spotted a truck approaching in the other direction. Susan drove past, and Nita used the hover skates to escape – and then grabbed the almanac. Letting go of Susan's car, she stopped in the middle of the road. Susan turned the car around. Nita looked at the side of the road. It was all gravel – not suitable for the hover-skates. Nita put the almanac inside her jacket and set off down the road away from Susan. Susan revved up her car, put her foot on the pedal and set off after Nita.

"Argh!" cried Nita. Susan was getting closer. She put the pedal down again and laughed evilly. Nita was almost at the railway crossing but Susan was almost on her. "Woah!"

She was at the railway crossing, when Ace's fold-up ladder trailed down and Nita grabbed onto it. The Doctor, in the TARDIS, pulled Nita up to safety. Susan looked up in amazement.

"Go Doctor!"

"Hold on Nita!"

Susan saw a flying police telephone box and a kid on hovering skates. She was so mesmerized she didn't see the truck in front of her until it was too late.

"Crap!"

She crashed into it, and found it was a rubbish truck!

"Ha, ha, ha, yeah!" laughed Nita.

"Rubbish! I hate rubbish!"
