" I'm hungry." Nora whined as she took hold of both Jaune and Ren's hands.
After Ruby and her group decapitate the Nevermore the eight of them make the long trip back to Beacon. Everyone was ready for dinner when they stepped foot in the school, only to be ushered into the amphitheater by Professor Goodwitch.
There was supposed to be a feast for them after the team was announced however they must first endure team assignment. At this point Jaune was pretty sure Nora's rumbling stomach could be heard all the way to Vale.
Nora tightened her grip on their arms as she whined and Jaune wasn't sure how much longer he could endure. Ren didn't bat an eye, continuing to passively watch as the Professor Ozpin on stage but Jaune could spot beads of sweat rolling down his face. And just like back home, Billy was snickering at his misery.
" Jaune Arc, Lie Ren, Pyrrha Niko, Nora Valkyrie."
Thankfully the girl let go of his arm as they were called on stage. Lining up in front of Professor Ozpin, Jaune tried his best not look stupid infront of the student body. He wasn't surprised when Nora places herself next to her long time friend leaving Ren's partner Pyrrha to stand next to him.
"The four of you retrieved the white rook pieces. From this day forward you will work together as team JNPR." The screen above displayed their photo in the order of the acronym. "Led by Jaune Arc."
"Huh? Me?" Did he hear it right? Did Professor Ozpin just say that he's the leader?
"Jaune, the headmaster just congratulated you. Answer him."Billy urged.
Jaune quickly gathered himself and answered as if he was listening to this whole " I'll do my best sir."
The man gave him a small nod and for a second a surge of something familiar radiated from the man. Too bad Jaune couldn't figure out what it was because Nora had somehow wrapped her hands around all three of her new teammates for a big ol' bear hug. The other students laughed as Nora squeezed the air out of their lungs with her hug.
So far Pyrrha's experience was okay. It wasn't as bad as she had feared it would be although the recognition of fans and hushed whispers of her was still disheartening. At least Professor Ozpin didn't choose her as team leader, had she gone to Haven she was sure Professor Lionheart would had automatically put her in charge regardless of what she says.
For the most part her new teammates were very nice. Ren, her partner, didn't care much about her fame. He was quiet by nature but Pyrrha could get used to it. Nora on the other hand was loud and boisterous, she also wasn't shown to be bothered by Pyrrha's popularity. Then there was their leader.
Pyrrha didn't get the chance to talk to Jaune Arc in the locker room before. He looked so focused this morning that she didn't have the heart to bother him.
" Is there something wrong?" She asked as the two of them walked down the empty hallway, each holding a tray full of food and drinks.
Nora had demanded victory pancakes from Ren to moment Professor Goodwitch release them from the amphitheater. The poor boy just sighed and sent Pyrrha and Jaune away to get some food while he cooked for Nora. It was Jaune who had suggested they should bring food from the cafeteria to the communal kitchen so the whole team could enjoy their first meal together.
She was happy to lend a hand at first but the staring began to make her uncomfortable.
"You look very familiar." Jaune said. " Have we met before? "
"Perhaps you've seen me on TV? I've fought in the Mistral Regional Tournament for the last four year." Pyrrha suggested with a strained smile.
Jaune just laughed it off. " Nah, I doubt that. We weren't allowed to watch those kinds of things in my house."
Had her ears deceive her? Did Jaune just admit he didn't know a thing about her greatest achievement? So what did he know her for?
" Oh, I know," The boy said. " Wasn't your face on the Pumpkin Pete's Marshmallow Flakes cereal box last month? I heard they only allow athletes and cartoon characters on them!"
" Yes, I was. It was pretty cool to be on a cereal box." She admitted, a sense of glee began to bubble from within her. "Although the cereal itself isn't very healthy for you."
" It can't be that bad." Jaune protested." I ate like fifty boxes of them in a day once. Nothing happened."
"I'm sorry but did you just say fifty box a day?"
Jaune let out a sheepish laugh, seemingly to be a bit embarrassed at her question.
" Yeah, my parents didn't let us have Pumpkin Pete in the house but there was this contest going on that I really wanted to win. So one day my parents weren't at home, I bribed my sister to buy me fifty boxes and ate all of it."
Because unbeknownst to Pyrrha, there were many things to an Arc. Like for example, not giving up just because their parents say no even at the most trivial thing.
Still Pyrrha found herself trying to find the right response to that fact. She settled with a question. "Did you win?"
" Yep! Got a hoodie for my trouble." Jaune gestured at the black hoodie underneath his armour. "Oh hey, we're here."
In her time listening to Jaune, Pyrrha had failed to notice that they had reached the communal kitchen. As they entered the room, they were greeted with the sight of Nora chowing down on an absurdly high stack of pancakes while Ren was drying the dishes nearby.
"Hey guys, we brought food." Without batting an eye Jaune placed his tray down on the table.
Ren gave them a nod. "Thank you, would offer you some pancakes but it seems Nora isn't in a sharing mood tonight."
" Of course, it's all mine. I earned it." Nora huffed and took a big bite of pancake. " But I suppose since Jaune-Jaune is my new bestie he could have a bite."
Jaune muttered something underneath his breath that Pyrrha couldn't quite catch before declining Nora offer. Sitting down he helped himself with a plate of pasta and gestured for Pyrrha to do the same.
Jaune was shaking, less because he was on the roof of the dormitory in the middle of the night but because he was going to call home for the first time in a month. It was most likely that Clair or the twins would pick up the scroll, he could probably talk them out of announcing his all to the entire house. There were the off chance dad, or God forbid, mom answered the scroll. Jaune prayed that they wouldn't, he was not ready for that.
"If you want I can-"
"No, I have to do this myself Billy."
He bit his lips as the screen loaded when someone picked up his call. To his relief, it was one of his sisters who had answered.
"Clementine, you're up late." Jaune commented, not quite looking at her.
She didn't answer him right away. Mirroring him, she averted her gaze from Jaune. " Mom and dad are looking for you." She stated. " They're not home right now though."
Taking a deep breath Jaune went through his rehearsed line. "I'm at Beacon right now, I took the entrance exam andtheinitiationandIgotputinchargeof-"
"You went to Shade." Clementine cut him off midd ramble.
"What? No, I said I'm at-"
"You went to Shade academy." She repeated. Her glasses gleam in the white light of the scroll. "And tomorrow Mom and Dad are going to take the next ship to Vacuo to guilt trip you home. Good luck."
With that she ended the call, but not before Jaune could get a. "Thanks sis." in.
"Well, that wasn't so bad." Billy said.
"Tell me about it." With one problem off his chest, Jaune let out a yawn. " Welp, I'm beat."
It was late, Jaune was tired and he had a bed with his name on it. Whatever problem that he had to deal with would have to wait until tomorrow.
