Sorry this is a couple of days late. I got busy working on a Christmas project for another fandom and kinda fell behind on this. It's finally up though.
By the time Jeff woke up from the beat down he received from Donald he discovered his wrists were bound from behind his back and he had woken up inside what looked like a interrogation room. Jeff immediately started working on trying to loosen his bonds when he heard Jo speak next to him.
"Don't bother, they've locked the door from the outside. We ain't getting out of here."
"You wanna fill me in on what just happened?"
"Well after who the kids called Uncle Donald beat you unconscious after seeing your weapon, the rest of the adults took the both of us into custody for what I assume is intense interrogation."
"Why would they do that? Didn't the kids let them know we are friendly?"
"You know I can only understand them when they write down what they are saying? I only know the name of the bird you beat up because Dewey wrote it down when we were being flown back here."
"Wait you mean we are in...?"
"Yep, Duckburg."
Just then the door opened and Scrooge alongside the duck in the big gizmo suit and a tall thin chicken with glasses walked inside. The chicken and Gizmo suit duck were both holding what looked like some specialized collars in their wings as they approached the two humans.
"Wait, don't you dare put that thing on me," Jeff said as he started struggling in fear. "I've seen enough movies to know where these weird creepy collars are heading."
The chicken clucked something in response before fastening the collar around Jeff's neck, the gizmo suited duck did the same to Jo. Once the collars were fastened the two humans could suddenly understand everything the birds was saying.
"The kids were right, the guy is about as obnoxious as they said." Jeff heard the chicken say to Scrooge.
"Hey, that guy has feelings you know!" Jeff shot back.
"Oh good the collars are a success." The chicken replied.
"What's going on here? What's with these strange collars? Who are you? And why did you tie us up and bring us here? We are no threat to any of you."
"My name is Gyro Gearloose and these two here is Gizmoduck and Scrooge McDuck. Those collars around your neck is what allows you to be able to communicate with us. Dr. Numnul had us wear these when we all worked for him so he could communicate with us."
"And don't worry, we only tied you up as a precaution." Gizmoduck ensured "Once we know you are not a threat we will let you go."
"Wasn't the kids word not enough?" Jo shot back.
"Lass, once your trust of humans are broken it's hard to regain." Scrooge replied.
"Fair point."
"Now," Scrooge asked "Tell us exactly how you came into contact with the kids."
"I'm sure it's as the kids told you." Jo replied "Their plane crashed down near our home, I found them in the plane and brought them inside. They claimed they were trying to go after Nimnul. We didn't know they had left without permission. I ensure you that we were of no harm to the kids."
"Then how does that explain the arrow that guy was holding." Gizmoduck asked.
"First of the name is Jeff," Jeff answered "Second, that arrow was to use on Nimnul's army. Me and Jo were offering to help the kids on their mission, those arrows were to tranquilize Nimnul's army. I am a pretty skilled archer. I am also a extreme environmentalist who only wants to help save wildlife. I would never try to harm any of you or the kids."
"Really?" Gryo replied unconvinced. "Because Louie told us that you were planning to turn them into normal ducks. That doesn't sound to me like you don't want to hurt us."
Jeff sighed as he tried to find a way to explain himself. "Look, I know how this sounds, but from where I am from animals don't live like humans, they don't build buildings like this, or walk around in cloths or eat pizza. What Nimnul did to you, to all of you, it's not natures way."
"Well it is OUR way." Scrooge shot back slamming his fist on the table.
"Scrooge, listen to me. The human world is about as corrupt as it comes. People are destroying the world, mother nature, they are polluting the air, causing the global temperature to rise and destroying many creatures habitats driving them to extinction. Not to mention the violence that humans cause on each other. Killing them over petty stuff. I don't want animals to become like that. I don't want you to become corrupt like humans."
"We are already nothing like you barbarians."
"Then show me!" Jeff shot back. "You want to prove to me that there is no chance of you ever being corrupted like humans then show me your way of living. You do that and once I finally discover a cure to your condition, I will only use it on Nimnuls army!"
"Scrooge please," Jo begged "We are not like Nimnul, we do not want to hurt any of you. Jeff just doesn't understand your kind yet. Heck there is a lot even I don't understand. Help us understand."
"And while your at it, help us stop Nimnul." Jeff added.
"Fine," Scrooge groaned "lesson number one, I built this island for one reason and one reason only, to protect my family and everyone else whose life was destroyed by that guy from Nimnul. Going after him would put my home and everybody I care for in danger."
"What about my home then, and those I care about?" Jeff shot back.
"If you fear him so bad you can stay here. But I'm not risking the safety of everyone I care about by going after him."
"So that's it? Your just going to cower and hide while Nimnul destroys the world?"
"Nimnul is unstoppable. We barely escaped by the skin of our teeth! Going back now that he has completed his army would be suicide!"
"But you have an army to, everyone here in Duckburg. You were all his army once. It's time to use what he taught you, and use it against him."
"That was a long time ago lad. I'm a lot older duck now, all of us are."
"Then train the younger generation to assist you. I know you still have that leader in you, the one that helped lead your family here. Be a leader now."
Scrooge sighed as he signaled for Gizmoduck and Gyro to untie them. "I wish I could help your home lads, I really do. But it took years for us to become the warriors we once were. Time your world doesn't have. I'm sorry but there is nothing I can do. I believe you really do mean well, but you got to face the facts that there is some battles that cannot be won. Your free to stay here and learn the ways of or home as well as teach us things about yours. But I cannot risk the lives of my people. I'm sorry."
Jeff just sighed and shook his head as he and Jo left the interrogation room. There was no way he was just going to accept Scrooge's answer, he was going to stop Nimnul, free those animals from his grasp and save his home somehow. He just didn't know how yet.
Later that day Jeff found Huey and Lena sitting next to the Duckburg Pier studying homework. With all the school they had missed due to their trip to the human world they were behind in basically every topic and was given extra homework to make up for lost time.
"Man if you told me that going on that wacky mission would result in extra homework I would have reconsidered," Lena replied.
"Wasn't the whole thing your idea?" Huey asked.
"Well yeah, but your the smart one, your supposed to think these type of scenario's through."
"Hey I ain't perfect okay?"
"Whatever, just tell me the differences between prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells so we can get this over with."
"Oh that's easy," Jeff replied walking up and joining the duo "For one, prokaryotes and eukaryotes differ in size and the presence of a membrane bound nucleus. Prokaryotes are compromise bacteria and archaea. Their DNA is not contained within a nucleus. Instead, their DNA is circular an can be found in a region called the nucleoid, which can be found in the cytoplasm. The Eukaryotes cells meanwhile, are found in plants, animals, fungi, and protists. Their DNA is contained within a membrane bound nucleus."
"Wow," Lena responded in shock, "How did you know that so easily without looking that up on your phone?"
"Helps that I was a biology major in college," Jeff shrugged. "I always did love science more than any other topic in school. I guess that comes to no surprise considering my occupation. Still despite all my knowledge, this cure continues to stump me."
"Have you talked to Gyro or Fenton?"
"They won't help. Scrooge continues to refuse to help stop Nimnul, he is to scared to get involved."
"Can you blame him after all he went through?" Lena replied.
"What I need is a scientist who isn't afraid to go behind Scrooge's back, that will be able to put doing the right thing above anything else. Which is why I came to you Huey. You are the smartest one of the group, you know any scientist that will be willing to help me?"
Huey thought things over for a second. "There might be one, follow me."
"I'm coming to," Lena replied "I need a break from all this homework."
The two ducks plowed into a rental car Scrooge loaned Jeff and Huey instructed him to a lab on the west side of Duckburg. Huey was the one who knocked on the door and waited as a female chicken opened the door, sporting a black tank top with headphones resting on her neck.
"Huey, haven't seen you in a while," Gandra replied excited before laying her eyes on Jeff. "You want to tell me why the hell there is a human here?"
"That is why we are here. This human is a fellow scientist who needs your help."
"Hey, I'm no scientist, I'm just a environmentalist who is in way over my head."
"Not to mention out of your environment," Gandra turned to Huey and Lena "Does Scrooge know about this guy?"
"Oh yeah," Huey replied
"Interrogated him for quite a while before clearing him as a non threat." Lena added.
"So, human nerd, what can I help you with?" Gandra replied.
"First off the name is Jeff," Jeff replied "Second I need you to help me on something but I need it to be secret. Scrooge cannot know about this otherwise we could all be in huge trouble."
"Stop right there I'm in."
"Just like that?" Jeff replied surprised.
"Yeah, if you didn't know it already, I'm kind of a rebel. What's the project?"
"Okay, I am working on something that could be used to stop Nimnul's army. It's a antidote to the mutations he used to turn all you animals into what you are now. The thing is I am nowhere close to figuring out the antidote. The farthest I've been able to get is studying a blood sample Violet gave me and figuring out what he used to create you. Reversing it though is the other challenge, one I haven't yet figured out, I was hoping a more professional scientist could help me out on this."
"Wow, you really aren't screwing around here are you," Gandra replied. "Your asking me to help create something that could change me back into a normal boring chicken."
"I already promised I would only use it on Nimnul's army," Jeff insisted.
"Eh, don't bother me either way, I don't like half the people on this island anyway so feel free to use it on whoever you want as long as it isn't me."
"You are a rebel aren't you?" Jeff replied shocked at her attitude.
"You know it."
"So that's a yes on the help?"
"I will see what I can do. I'm not much in the chemistry department, I'm more of a inventor then a chemist, but since I'm probably the only one crazy enough to agree to such a thing like this I'll take a look. You got the notes on you?"
Jeff took out a flash drive and handed it to Gandra. "All you need is on that drive."
"I'll get a start on it then. I can't promise you anything since I'm no chemist, but I will see what I can come up with."
"Your the best Dee." Huey replied as Jeff, Lena, and Huey left.
As the three of them got in the car Lena suddenly spoke up. "For the record, if Scrooge finds out what you are doing, you are risking getting not only yourself, but Jo, Gandra, and us in so much trouble, like legal trouble. Scrooge runs this entire Island, disobeying his wishes, is like breaking the law."
"I know that," Jeff replied "But sometimes doing what is right, means you have to break a few laws. The law isn't perfect kid, and it's not always right. Sometimes you have to take matters in your own hands."
"I just hope you know what your doing," Lena replied "For all of our sake."
Jeff sighed as he started the engine. "I hope so to."
