Titan's Tower, Jump City, CA.
Friday, July 1st, 12:00 p.m.
A Week and a half later...
It's a warm night in Jump City and for the first time in a while every Titan is present and with there being only 3 days until the 4th of July that meant that the Titans had 3 days to hang out with each other before they all went to go celebrate the holiday with their respective families.
This was also the day Max and Tula were scheduled to come back, but obviously that happened early, along with that the Titans also had to spend the last week debriefing Batman on everything that happened during Scarecrow's Power Trip, he even stayed a little bit longer than he had to just to run tests on Jason to see if the toxin was still in his system even though there were plenty other samples that he could go through, during the debriefing the Titans pretty much told him everything but they purposely left out the part with Jason brutally beating a group of Scarecrow's men, the Titans feel like he didn't need to hear that part.
They knew that Batman could clearly see that they were lying to him, but it seems that as long as no one ended up dead, The Batman didn't care enough to push it, as for the matter that concerned injuries, Jason's going to be walking around with a limp for a while and Ted spent a week in the infirmary and even when he got out, he was forced into bed rest for the last 3 days, God knows he was jealous of the speed healing of his teammates.
Now the Teen Titans were all sat around the kitchen table while Jason and Raquel (the only people in the building who knew how to cook) cooked dinner and when it is all said and done, the pair walked over to the table with the freshly done meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy as a side and fried shrimp for any of those that were interested.
As the night continued the team started digging in and began to have conversations with each other.
"Ahwight, swo-Smack!-" Max started to speak but was quickly interrupted by Donna's hand.
"By the gods, Maxwell! Did I just never teach you to not speak with your mouth full?!" Donna spoke with a commanding tone. "Perhaps you are a pig after all."
"That's offensive, I think, but that's besides the point, there was no need to slap me." He commented before shoving his mouth with more food. "Plus, you should know that now that super speed takes a toll on one's body, the toll being that a speedster burns through more calories and nutrients than fire does paper, but even then I couldn't stop eating if I wanted to, but I don't nearly have the biggest appetite as Barry, which could be blamed on the fact that I'm not as fast as him, but no biggie."
"Did he just give us a science lesson on speedsters? Also, does that mean that if I take away your food you wouldn't be a threat to me?" Roy was actually curious as to what the answer to his question was.
"Oh no, we'd still be just as dangerous, we would just have to move slower to conserve energy, by that I mean that if Barry were to have to run around the world for 3 days straight, he'd still have enough energy to come kill you without you even knowing what was going on." He said as his teammates began to have disturbed looks on their faces. "What? I can't do that so you guys have nothing to worry about."
"Speaking of which, since I'm still relatively new to the team do you mind explaining as to why you can't run as fast as The Flash?" Tula asked, to which Max took a deep breath in and out and figured that she was going to find out anyway. "You both were struck by lightning, no?"
"While it may be true that Barry and I got our powers on the same night, that being the night of the particle accelerator explosion, we share the same powers but we don't share the same effects of said powers," he started explaining, as he actually put his fork down for the first time since dinner started. "The one big difference? I had a heart condition pre accelerator explosion, Barry didn't, before my heart condition would only bother me whenever I ran too fast or for too long, but now with the added bonus of super speed that effect is now multiplied tenfold, so each time I use my powers I run the risk of getting a heart attack, however it's the same rules from before, if I run too fast or for too long the old condition will kick in and I'll be forced to come to a stop, one way of knowing that I'm running too fast is that I get a nosebleed each time and it usually doesn't stop until like 30 minutes after I stop running."
"So to make a long story short, you're practically killing yourself each time you use your powers, is that correct?"
"Yeah that's pretty much the gist of it." Max confirmed for her, once again stuffing his face full of food.
"So tell me Maxwell, what is your top speed without giving yourself a heart attack?"
"Let's see, I'd say around Mach 10 and maybe Mach 13 on a good day, but if I were to say "fuck it" and go my very top speed, knowing full well that I'd be practically Kamikazing myself, then I'd probably hit Mach 50, best believe I'm not surviving after going that fast, I'm pretty sure that would cause me to bleed from every pore of my body."
"Hehe."
Everyone at the table turned to Ted to see that he was giggling to himself quickly became mildly disturbed, to which Jason began to question. "What's so funny, Beetlejuice?"
"Nothing, I just find something very ironic about a speedster who can suffer heart attacks." Ted explained and he was about to continue before Max woke up.
"Ah-Ah! Kord, you might want to watch what you say next because this speedster with a heart condition could still put your ass back in the infirmary." He deadpanned, not liking Ted's snarky tone at all, Ted was always bitter towards Max, although Max had no idea why everyone else on the team (except Raquel) easily stitched the story together.
As you see, even if he isn't aware of it, Max had a way with women and a big part of Ted's sob story is the fact that Max managed to nab the girl he liked from right out of his nose without even trying, but in Max's defense, him and Raquel were already good friends pre joining the Titans best friends even, but unfortunately Max already had his eyes set on a certain Amazon Warrior Princess and the worst part was that Raquel was already aware that he didn't see her in that light.
But one victory that the short-haired gal will always be able to hold over Donna is the fact that Raquel was Max's first kiss, granted said kiss happened when Raquel had to resuscitate him, but it still counts.
"Alright, that's enough bickering, we have to figure out what we're going to do before we all have to split." Kara spoke up, already annoyed with Max.
They all sat and ate in silence as they had no idea what they were going to do, but something was bound to come to them.
