Hello everyone and welcome to my next one-shot! I can't believe it's the tenth one already. I apologize for the wait, didn't know in which direction I wanted to go with this one. It's a request by Brakayla 4-ever and it's a rewrite of the first episode of the third season. In this one-shot Brady didn't go back to Chicago and decided to stay on Kinkow. See how he reacts to Mikayla's conversation with Candis and him and Boomer having a triplet brother. Enjoy and let me know what you thought!
Mikayla strolled through the jungle on her guard duty, large crossbow in hand, ready to shoot any incoming danger. At the sound of a twig snapping, she spun around at shot an arrow in the direction of which the sound had come from. "Who goes there?" She demanded.
She sighed in annoyance at the sight of her best friend Candis stepping out into the opening, arrow sticking out of her purse. "Aren't you supposed to ask that before you murder a defenseless handbag?" Mikayla rolled her eyes at the question before demanding answers from her friend. "Candis what are you doing so close to the dark side?" she approached her friend before adding; "you texting and walking again?"
"I was looking for you –" Candis stepped closer to Mikayla, "– you've been taking a lot of solo patrols lately… are you hiding from someone?" As she'd been stating this, she'd stepped around Mikayla. At her next question, she spun around, facing her friend again. "Like king Brady?"
Mikayla was taken aback by the question. "W-why would I…hide from him?" Her voice wasn't as steady as she'd like it to be but she didn't think Candis noticed, since she was already babbling again; "well not that I'm one to gossip but I heard from Allison who heard from Malory who heard from Hilary that you're ma –" she was cut off by a very annoyed Mikayla. "Ooh my shift ends in four hours, get to the point!"
"Fine; the word is that you said that you were never going to date king Brady because he's too immature and he'll never grow up as long as he's king of this island." Mikayla had been inspecting her crossbow but upon hearing this, she turned and faced Candis again. "What? I didn't say that."
"So, you're denying that's how you feel?" Mikayla wasn't sure how she felt, that was the problem and she didn't know how to react to this. "Well…I... –" Candis cut her off, pointing her finger in Mikayla's face. "Hah! You hesitated. Hesitation is confirmation!" Before Mikayla was able to come up with a suitable reply, a rustling sound came from the bushes to their left. Mikayla, instantly on high alert, motioned for her friend to get behind her as she approached the bushes.
She moved the large leaves out of the way in one quick motion but there was no one there. She furrowed her brows, as she was pretty sure someone had been there with them. Before she could give it another thought, her always 'kind' and honest friend sprang her daily insult upon her. "Oh girlfriend, if you're looking for something to shoot…put those man sandals out of their misery." Mikayla fixed her with an angry glare before moving along with her patrol, kindly instructing Candis to let her get back to work.
Reality was; she wanted some time alone to think things over. After last night she hadn't been able to talk to Brady about their kiss and truth was; she didn't want to. She didn't know how she felt about the king. A couple of weeks ago she'd thought her feelings had been very clear and none existent but after he'd poured his heart out with that poem, something had changed inside of her. That was even before the dreams had started leading up to her breaking the king out of an evil spell.
She groaned in frustration before strolling further into the jungle, away from the castle. Yes, I do think he's immature sometimes but that's who they are…besides he's shown me on multiple occasions that he can be serious and take the lead to get things done when situations arise. And he's really sweet as well. – She shook her head at that last thought.
"What do you want Mikayla?" She mumbled to herself.
Unbeknownst to Candis and Mikayla, there had been someone there in the bushes, listening in on their conversation. It had been Brady. He hadn't been following Mikayla, he'd been strolling through the jungle as well, to clear his head after everything that had happened the previous night and he'd stumbled upon the girls coincidentally. He hadn't meant to eavesdrop but upon hearing Candis mention his name, curiosity got the best of him.
When Candis had gleefully proven her point when Mikayla hesitated, he decided he didn't want to hear the rest of the conversation and ran. He'd really thought that she finally reciprocated his feelings. After that kiss, he'd been so sure. Evidently, he was wrong.
He debated whether he should stay on the island or go back to Chicago, away from her and back to his old life. Even though his heart was hurting, and he wanted to run away, somehow, she still had a pull on him as he remembered what she'd once said to him. "You seem like the kind of guy who runs when things get tough." He didn't want to give her the satisfaction of being right, therefore, he decided to stay. He couldn't leave his brother either as he'd promised him that they were in this king thing together. Also, he probably wouldn't survive going back to high school by himself, with the constant bullying and all.
This didn't mean that he wasn't hurt by Mikayla's words and would act as if everything was fine. He would show her that she was wrong and stop pursuing her. No more flirting or cheesy comments. No more attempts to get her to date him. If she wanted to be with him, she'd have to prove it to him this time, it was up to her.
He sighed as he kicked a small rock in front of him, watching it fly through the air and land a couple of feet away. He sunk his hands deep in his jean pockets. As a drop of rain landed on his head, he looked up at the sky. Not having noticed the change in colors. The once clear sky was now a dark grey color. Lightning flashed before him, indicating that a storm was coming, since he felt the wind pick up as well all of a sudden. Not wanting to be in the jungle any longer, he picked up his pace and made his way back to the castle.
By the time he arrived back at the castle the wind had picked even more, and it was pouring rain. His clothes were soaked through. His hair clung to his head as annoying droplets of water kept dripping into his eyes. As he opened the doors to the throne room, he was immediately greeted by Mikayla, who had already returned from her guard shift and prepared the castle for the upcoming storm. "Where were you my king? There's a storm coming, you shouldn't be out by yourself" Mikayla stated as she eyed him curiously.
He ran a hand through his wet hair and shrugged. "Taking a walk, until it started raining that is." Brady replied as he sidestepped the guard girl, mumbling that he was going to take a shower before disappearing upstairs. What's gotten into him? Mikayla thought as she watched her friend leave the room. He'd barely made eye contact with her, his flirty attitude absent. Especially after she'd kissed him, she'd expected him to mention it nonstop.
She shrugged it off for now as she too retreated to her room, relaxing a bit after her guard shift before she would head to bed. Figuring out who had been in the jungle that day would have to wait until tomorrow.
The following morning Mikayla walked into the throne room where her dad was currently doing an inventory count of the vault, while the guards were in the plaza cleaning up the rubble left by the storm. "Hey daddy, where any of the guards over at the south side of the island last night?" Without looking up from his clipboard he replied; "why you trying to find out who owns those sandals you're wearing?" Mikayla rolled her eyes at his remark. "I'm part bigfoot, whose fault is that?" She retorted, eying her father's feet knowingly. He gasped and was about to answer her when the kings entered the room, laughing at a joke one of them had made.
He greeted them both with a smile. "Good morning my kings."
"Good morning Mason." It sounded simultaneously as they flopped down on the couch, having already been instructed to stay indoors while the guards cleaned up after the storm. Mikayla frowned as Brady acknowledged her with a simple nod. No 'good morning beautiful' or any of his other cheesy comments. Though she was relieved by the lack of his flirtatious attitude, she was also slightly confused. It was one thing to drop the flirting, but he barely spoke to her or looked at her for that matter. She vowed to get to the bottom of it and have a talk with him later that day, since there are some other matters that need discussing as well.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a couple of the guard running into the throne room, informing them that a ship had crashed upon their island. Its survivors were now roaming the plaza and requesting to speak to the leaders of Kinkow. The kings shared a look of confusion with her father before reluctantly getting up from the couch. As they entered the plaza, the destruction the storm had brought upon the island became visible.
The plaza was scattered with leaves, trees that had fallen over and bamboo which used to cover some roofs of houses in the village. They were greeted by a tall teenager wearing a robe and a crown. He had a light skin and red hair. "King Boomer, King Brady, –" he bowed as he addressed the kings, "– It is a great honor. I am king Boz of Mindu and I'm saddened to tell you that our island nation sank during the storm. My people and I humbly seek refuge on the great island of Kinkow." He kneeled in front of the kings as he awaited their answer.
Boomer was first to speak. "Well I'm sorry to hear about your island but uhm of course, your people are welcome here!" He turned toward his brother. "Right Brady?" Brady stared at the teenager in front of him wearily and shrugged giving Boomer the indication that he was onboard. Boz sighed in relief before taking off his robe in one fluent motion. "Oh, thank goodness! Cause I've been sweating that speech for like ten hours. If you guys would've said no, we would have nowhere to go." He chuckled nervously. "What to the island of Sununu? Heck no! Those girls are mean."
Boomer smiled before adding; "and definitely not Kornea, who wants that third eye always staring at you?"
"Ugh thank you! Put a patch over that stink eye we are trying to eat…" Boz stated in agreement. Boomer turned around, facing the others. "Oh, let me introduce you to the Makoola's." He pointed at Mason, introducing him first. "This is Mason; royal advisor and head of our security." He paused for a moment as Boz shook his hand. "And Mikayla; head guard and, –" Boz interrupted him as he held his hand in front of his eyes as he signaled to one of his men. In response; a large leaf was placed between Boz and Mikayla, cutting off his vision. "Wow! Uh I am sorry, but this Mikayla looks like my ex-girlfriend. From now on I officially do not like you." Brady frowned upon hearing him say this, already not a fan of the guy.
Mikayla was confused by his action as she looked around, gazing at the others. "Okay uhm…. well…it is a pleasure to meet you your majesty." She told him as she pushed the leaf away. At this action, Boz pulled up his shirt. "Wow! Shirt shield!" He yelled, while the others gasped upon seeing the Kinkowan swirl on his stomach. Upon realizing he was being stared at he asked; "what?" before noticing the attention was directed at his birth mark. "Oh, yeah my birth mark. Don't stare at it too long it'll hypnotize you."
"It is Kinkow swirl! Birth mark, both king Boomer and Brady have one just like that." One of the elders stated eventually. "Boomer, Brady there is something you should know." He continued as Mason suddenly appeared with the photo of the twins as babies. The photo was taken out of its frame and Mason unfolded it, showing a third baby in the picture with Boomer and Brady. A baby with red hair.
"Wait, who is that?" Brady asked as he pointed at the third baby in the photo while Boomer nodded in agreement. "My kings, you are not twins, you are triplets. King Boz here from Mindu is your long-lost brother." The kings gaped at the photo before Brady burst out laughing. "You're kidding right? I mean all of a sudden you tell us that instead of twins we're actually triplets? And that this guy, –" he jabbed his finger at Boz's chest, "– is our brother? He looks nothing like us." Boomer huffed in agreement as the Makoola's simply rolled their eyes at Brady's comment. As if he and Boomer looked anything alike.
Before the elder could explain further, Lanny entered the plaza looking disheveled. He stopped next to Mason. "Ugh I just had the weirdest dream. I dreamt that the kings had a triplet brother, really tall guy with crazy red hair." He nodded his head in Boz's direction. "Who's this guy?" He asked before noticing the picture that Mason was holding in his hands, showing a third baby. As realization hit him, he screamed.
As it turned out, Mason and the elders had been telling the truth; apparently, they really were triplets and Boz had been lost at sea shortly after their birth. Boz was raised by apes until he was ten years old and decided to sleep on the rafters instead of on his new bed inside the king's bedroom. Despite Brady's protests, he'd been assigned to sleep with them. Needless to say; Brady was not a fan of Boz. He was still weary of the fact that he had another brother and was reluctant to believe it. Also, his brother Boomer getting along great with Boz, wasn't helping, at all. It only made him dislike the guy even more.
He'd been here two days now and him and Boomer were constantly together, hanging out and laughing constantly. During those two days Brady had avoided them and Mikayla. He'd barely spoken to her as well and was still not in the mood. Her words or lack thereof were still clear in his mind and it hurt every time when he thought back to that moment, two days ago. She'd tried to stir up a conversation between them a couple of times, the last time being an hour ago, but he would either keep his responses short or pretend to be on his way somewhere.
At the moment he was sitting on his bed, playing his acoustic guitar while Boomer and Boz were hanging out, again, in the jungle. They had asked him to join but he'd declined the offer. Boomer had attempted to get him to talk to Boz a couple of times but had been unsuccessful so far. He kept claiming that he was a cool guy and that they would get along great, but Brady wouldn't hear it. He was aware that his dislike and weariness of the guy could be related to his already sour mood when he arrived on the island but at the moment he didn't care and simply wanted to be left alone.
He was halfway through 'I've just seen a face' by the Beatles, when he heard laughing in the hallway, approaching his room. He groaned in frustration as his 'brothers' entered the room, greeting him happily. Boz smiled at him while Brady simply fixed him with an angry glare. There's nothing worse than being in the presence of the guy you can't stand. His thoughts were interrupted by Mikayla entering the room. "Brady can I speak with you for a moment.?" Another annoyed groan escaped his lips as he placed his guitar on his bed. "Well there's one thing worse." He mumbled very softly as he thought of the conversation to come.
Without waiting for a reply from the boy, she grabbed his upper arm and pulled him from his room and toward her own. Once inside, she let go of him and faced him with her arms crossed over her chest. "Okay spill, what's going on with you?" His wore an annoyed expression as he replied; "what are you talking about?"
Mikayla sighed. "Well for starters you haven't made a creepy comment about you being in my bedroom. Heck you have barely spoken five words to me these past couple of days and I want to know why." Brady furrowed his brows, debating whether he should tell her the truth. He felt a pang of sadness in his chest as he looked at the beautiful girl in front of him. It was, however, soon replaced by anger as he remembered her conversation with Candis. "Why? I thought you'd be happy if I stopped flirting with you. Thought it would be the mature thing to do but I guess I was wrong again. Apparently, you think I'm too immature no matter what I do." He spoke through gritted teeth. Without waiting for a reply, he spun around and walked out of her room, leaving a dumbfounded Mikayla behind.
"That was Brady in the jungle the other day?!" She mumbled to herself out loud as she realized how much she'd screwed up.
That's it for the first part of this one shot! What did you think? I hope you enjoyed it! As of yet I don't know when I'll be able to upload the second part exactly, hopefully somewhere next week or the week after that. For now, let me know what you thought and reviews are much appreciated:)
