As much as people want to say this isn't true, everyone has skeletons in their closets of some sort. Maybe they are ashamed of something they did when they were younger. Maybe they came from a bad background and are afraid people will judge them because they would think others would think they were like the rest of their family. Maybe they are embarrassed over something a relative of theirs's and no one would let them forget it. Or maybe something happened to them and they don't want anyone to know about it.
"Elsa, why do you care so much about Dr. Oliver?" Zeltrax asked as he took a seat in Principal Randall's office. "Shouldn't you be trying to destroy him like the rest of us are?"
"You wouldn't understand-"
"-I wouldn't understand what?" Zeltrax asked.
"I am Maddie Batten's daughter as much as I hate to admit it," Elsa reveal doubling up her fists and punching a picture of her mother inside her storage closet. On the picture there were darts sticking to the picture as if she was using Mrs. Batten as her target to practice throwing darts. "I've had a crush on Tommy since I met him at MIT. I asked him out and but he turned me down."
"Then why hasn't he recognized who you?" Zeltrax questioned as Elsa threw a dart at the picture and hit Mrs. Batten right between the eyes. "Are you still going by the name of Laura Hall?"
"Terrance Smith, Dr. Oliver hasn't recognized either one of us because our appearances look so different," Elsa hissed throwing a vase across the room. "And how many times do I have to tell you that I abandoned that name a long time ago!"
"Why aren't you a Batten?" questioned Zeltrax.
"My stupid mother, Maddie Batten was once married to a Hall and she named me after an aunt that I never got along with," Elsa began. "Don't you think I deserve my own name? Or was she just trying to take quick way out from giving me a name of my own. Anyway, my mother divorced my father and he got custody of me because Ms. Batten was cheating on him-"
"-shouldn't you say your mother?!" Zeltrax interrupted as Elsa walked over to him and gave him a hard smack across the face.
"I hate Maddie Batten and I'll never consider her as my mother!" Elsa screamed stomping on his foot. "Now please let me continue and no more interruptions. As I was trying to say, Mrs. Batten was cheating on my dad and she was pregnant with my younger sister Evelyn, who my father didn't want anything to do with my sister. Before you ask I was a baby and don't remember it. As I was growing up, I heard a lot about my mother leaving us and I saw a lot of pictures of her. When I went to MIT, I met my mother for the first time in years. She didn't even recognize me until I showed her a baby picture of myself."
"Why did you lie on me when we went out to the restaurant before that dance?" Zeltrax questioned.
"Smitty, I was trying to get in good term with Mrs. Batten because I wanted to know why she didn't want anything to do with me and I also wanted to know why she cheated on my father," Elsa said taking a seat at her desk. "Turns out she was cheating on him right after they married. Mrs. Batten thought I was her second husband's child. But, they did a DNA test and it turns out that I wasn't his. So, she decided to forsake me. I've hated that woman ever since I learned the truth. I didn't want any connections to that woman, so I legally got my name changed from Laura to Elsa."
Randall stepped out of her office to go to the teacher's lounge to get some coffee.
"Have a good day at school, Beautiful," Tommy said giving Kimberly a kiss on the cheek.
What was it is with Kimberly? Why did Tommy choose her instead? Yes, she was pretty and attractive. There had to have been more than just that. What did Kimberly do that she didn't do? That always went through her mind.
"You've gotten be kidding me," Randall said to herself. She saw that Kimberly was dressed up. A pink sweater dress, white stockings, and black dress boots. As much as she hated to admit it, Kimberly did look nice. She turned to get a better look at Tommy. A pair of dark khaki pants, a grey button-down dress shirt, and a pink tie. A pink tie! Tommy was actually wearing pink and that was Kimberly's signature color.
"I am so happy that we are able to have a date night after school," Kimberly chirped as she kissed Tommy on the cheek. "I've been looking forward to us going to see Pirates of the Caribbean ever since they started to show previews of it."
Randall walked by Kimberly and noticed a beautiful ring on her finger. It was a gold twisted ring in a spiral shape which held two princesses cut diamonds side by side in the center of the ring. One of the diamonds was pink and the other one was white. It was her engagement ring that and Randall could remember that when they were in college Kimberly was showing off. That made Randall sick to her stomach when people said:
"What a beautiful ring, Kimberly."
"You two got engaged? I am so happy for you!"
"You two are prefect for each other."
"Tommy, I remember the day in the beauty shop and you told the woman at the check outline that you wanted Kimberly to be more than just your best friend. I am glad that you got your wish."
For a whole week, the college professors and students were congratulating them. Every time, she turned around, she'd hear someone say, "I heard you are engaged, let me see that engagement." Or she would hear, "You two must have gotten engaged because you weren't wearing that ring last week."
Ever since that day, Randall had made it her goal that she would make it her goal to break Tommy and Kimberly up. She tried flirting with Tommy, but he just ignored her. What else could she do to get them to break up.
"Kim, I've got to go to the copy room and pick up some papers," Tommy informed. "I will see you at break time."
The ring was the prefect answer. If Tommy saw that Kimberly had thrown away her engagement ring, it was for sure going to break them up. She went into her office and grabbed a bottle of hand lotion and turned the corner. She squirted lotion a fourth of the way down the hall. She muttered a spell and an invisible rope appeared just as Kimberly turned the corner. Watching satisfactory, Randall saw Kimberly get up and she slipped on the lotion and slid all the way into the janitor's cart.
"Here let me help you," Randall offered as she poured lotion on Kimberly's hands. "Oh, I am so sorry. I previous used some lotion on chapped hands. I must have put a little too much on."
Randall walked over the janitor's cart and ripped over a few paper towels. "Here, dry your hands off," Randall offered handing Kimberly the paper towels.
"Thank you," Kimberly smiled as she was wiping her hands. Just as she finished wiping her hands off, she noticed her engagement ring and wedding ring was missing. "Principal Randall, I have you seen my-"
"-looking for these?" Randall taunted as she showed Kimberly the rings.
"Yes," Kimberly answered. "Please, give them to me."
"No can do," Randall remarked as she walked over to the large trash can and threw them away. "Tommy asked me out on a date."
"You're lying!" Kimberly cried as she ran over to the trash can and started to go through the trash.
Tommy walked out of the copy room carrying an arm load of works sheets and an upcoming test. It was almost time for first period and wanted to get to his classroom before the bell rang. All of the papers had already been grouped together by each class period; that would save a lot of time and he could go on and pass out the papers.
"Tommy's going to be hurt!" Randall shouted.
What was going on? And why was Randall going to shouting? The first think that clicked inside his brain was Kimberly. He walked faster and turned the corner and was in for a huge shock. Kimberly was digging through a trash can. Her sweater dress was torn and dirty and her stocking had holes reveal both of her knees.
"If you wanted your engagement ring and your wedding ring, you shouldn't have thrown them away!" Randall smirked as she watched Tommy's mouth drop and all of the neatly sorted papers fell out of his hands. He stood there as if he was a petrified statue. "He's here and has seen what you've done."
Kimberly finally found her rings and she slipped them back on her finger. She had to tell Tommy the truth. He had to know that Randall was the one who took the rings and threw them away. He had to know before someone told him about the incident or he walked by and saw the scene himself.
"Look what you did," Randall remarked as she looked at a shocked Tommy. "You've really hurt him. Dr. Oliver, you need to know your wife is going to leave you."
Kimberly turned around and Tommy was standing right behind her. His face was red as fire and tears were forming in his eyes. "Tommy, it's not what you think," Kimberly began. "Randall was the one who-"
"-I don't want to hear any excuse from anyone!" Tommy exploded. "I can't believe that I actually saw the rings in the trash can!"
"Tommy, it was Randall-"
"-Dr. Oliver, I didn't do anything it was all her-"
"-I told you I didn't want to hear any excuses!" Tommy interrupted.
The bell rang and Kimberly walked off to her class room as she wiped the tears forming in her eyes. Tommy, her own husband didn't want to hear her side of the story. Normally, when something happened, he was the first one to ask her what happened. What was wrong this time? Was it that Randall made it look so real causing Tommy to believe she threw the rings away? Or was that he saw her digging through the trash can search for the rings?
They had been in first period for only fifteen minutes and Tommy was going through a guilt trip. His anger got the best of him and he snapped at Kimberly. Ever since he met her ten years ago, she had been his best friend, the first one there if he needed anything, she always put him before herself, and she been faithful to him ever since the day she said "I do."
"I shouldn't have snapped at her," he thought as he finished grading the final test. He glanced up and saw everyone was still watch the film on fossils. "She probably thinks I actually believed she threw the rings away."
There were still 45 minutes left of the class period and he had time to try to make things right before second period. Tommy logged on to his computer and pulled up his e-mail.
Kimberly,
Are you available to talk? I would like to talk to you about this morning.
Love,
Tommy
Tommy never took his eyes off the computer for next three minutes. She had to be teaching class or she was angry with him. If she was angry with him, he couldn't much blame him. He brought it on himself. Finally, a new e-mail appeared. He clicked on the e-mail and started to read it.
Tommy,
I am available to talk to you, since I am showing my class a film. I will meet you outside my classroom.
Kimberly
Tommy logged off his computer and he quietly walked out of his classroom. He walked down the hall and Kimberly had just closed her classroom door.
"I'm sorry for losing my temper," Tommy apologized when he walked up to Kimberly.
"Tommy, I can explain things," Kimberly stated as a tear ran down her cheek. "It wasn't what you thought it was."
"Beautiful, you don't need to explain anything to me," Tommy promised as he gently wiped her tears with his thumbs. "If anyone needs to be explaining and apologizing it should be me."
"What do you mean?" Kimberly gasped when she looked up into his warm chocolate eyes.
"I was coming down the hallway and I heard you and Randall talking about your rings being taken," Tommy explained taking a deep breath. "But, I never expected our own principal to take your rings and throw them away. I saw the lotion all over the floor and I saw her holding a bottle of lotion."
"Tommy, she purposely put the lotion there so I'd slip. She offered to help me up but she poured lotion on my hands. And that's when my rings fell off," Kimberly answered. "I was digging through the trash because I knew that they'd be emptying the trash can and I'd never find them-"
"I love you, Beautiful," Tommy purred as he pulled her into a hug. "I know that you'd never purposely sit out to hurt me."
"I feel like all this ranger stuff and Randall making trouble has affected our marriage ever since the first day of school," Kimberly admitted as she hugged him back. "We can't go home and just spend the rest of the day together and a lot of our plans are always canceled. It's like we're relieving our high school days again."
"I've been thinking about that too," Tommy confessed as he stroked her hair. "I have decided that I want to renew my wedding vows to you on our anniversary and then have a party afterwards. Even though we're rangers again, it isn't going to put a strain on our marriage."
"I love the idea," Kimberly smiled.
Randall peaked around the corner and she had been listening to their whole conversation. She was going to make sure that their date after school got ruined.
