Chapter 11

Douglas avoided Leo all of Saturday because he knew that kid was mad at him. In fact, they did not even call Douglas to pick them up again. Instead, they asked Janelle's mother to pick her up instead, so Douglas more or less ignored that fact. Of course, he could not avoid Leo for long because Donald and the kids had come back. So that meant, there would be more missions for him and Leo to consult on. Maybe his brother was right. Him taking an overprotective approach in his friendship with Leo a little too far. This was because Douglas could feel the anger that Leo was feeling whenever he entered the room. On the bright side, from what Douglas had observed, Leo was actually on his way to fixing things with Janelle. When he entered the room, he was glad Leo was not paying attention to him. The boy was too busy talking to his siblings when Douglas answered the room and he saw Chase, Adam and Bree giving him smiles that caused Douglas to go crazy. He was so obsessed about apologizing to Leo he forgot the kids were coming back ffrom thier mission. When Leo saw that all of his siblings were looking behind him, he glanced back and glanced at Douglas with his arms crossed. He just hoped that…Oh, Douglas was not ready for the next line that Adam was going to say.

"Hey, Douglas, guess what Leo just told us," Adam said. "He said you went all James Bond on him and spied on his date with Janelle."

Leo ignored Douglas' look of betrayal.

"Wait, you told them about it," Douglas said.

"Actually, I was the one who told them," Donald said, gesturing to himself and earning a glare from his brother. Bree and Chase began laughing together while Adam just smirked.

"OH, that reminds me of the time Chase, Bree and I went on that Date with Janelle and Leo but hid in the shadows because we were wary ever since the whole Marcus incident," Adam said while Chase and Bree gave him a look.

Leo looked back. "You guys were spying on me too?"

"Well, yeah," Adam answered. "You just didn't see us because we were lurking in the shadows."

Leo gave Bree and Chase the disappointment look.

"Well, forgive us for being a tad overprotective, bro," Bree said. However, it was true; ever since the team had been suspicious of Marcus, they kept their turns over on Leo because he was the youngest of the family and mostly the one Douglas would have targeted if they had been evil. Leo shook his head. His siblingswere actually taking pleasure in the whole irony of this situation.

"Well at least you were doing it for my well-being," Leo said before glaring at Douglas, who was giving his nephew a glare back. Actually, Leo had been doing the glaring while the other Davenports looked at each other nervously.

"We'll leave you two alone," Donald said as Bree grabbed their hands and she sped them out of the room and he quickly rushed out the door. They did not need to see this train wreck.

"Oh, do you think Douglas and Leo are going to fight?" Bree asked.

"I hope not, or else we'll be spending the night wiping Douglas off the ceiling," Chase answered. "Or Leo will just leave."

"Actually, he can't," Donald said, he smirked. "Douglas and I put the Daven Wall back on so Leo cannot leave until they straighten things out."

Bree, Chase and Adam glared at their father whose smile disappeared.

"Oh, come on, you guys once trapped me in there, so now, Leo and Douglas have all the time in the world to make up to each other," Donald said. "Besides, I know why Douglas did but he asked me to put the security perimeter back online. So now, Leo has to hear him out too. For both their sakes."

He needed Douglas and Leo to reconcile because their family bond counted on them fighting Victor Krane. Now, Donald was not sure which day it would take for Leo to become the bionic hero they both wanted him to be. However, he needed to know if his son was going to be ready to fight one day. Those two would not be able to get along with their training at least until they found a way to make it up to each other.

There were no words between the two Davenports. Leo was not sure how to tell Douglas that he was mad that he did not trust him to have one date with Janelle. That was what he was mad about the most. Douglas, meanwhile was sure that this conflict had to be resolved today. However, it did make him feel better that his kids did the same thing he did: stalking Leo's date because they were only doing it out his wellbeing. They really were his children. After a moment of silence...

"That's it, I'm out of here," Leo snapped, walking over to the door.

"Yeah, you can't leave," Douglas said as he crossed his arms. The teenager turned and gave his uncle a glare.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Well, I didn't know how to talk to you so I had Donald rewire the Daven Wall he used to keep Krane out of the lab from Adam, Bree and Chase."

Leo couldn't help but sarcastically chuckle. "You're insane, Douglas. You can't just talk to people by keeping them prisoner here. I'm out of here."

Leo walked over to the tunnel but was suddenly shocked by the volt of the security perimeter. Douglas grimaced, holding out his hand for Leo to take. The boy refrained himself as Douglas wordlessly gestured for Leo to take it, however, he reluctantly did so.

"Leo, I am NOT keeping you prisoner. Just long enough for you to at least hear me out."

"With what?"

"I wanted to apologize for spying on you the other day. It was w..." Douglas stopped. He is not good at apologizing. "A little wrong."

"A little?" Leo snapped. "You know, I don't know what I'm more disturbed by, the fact you did not trust me or the fact you don't realize that what you did was morally wrong even though you should know better."

Douglas sighed. He had a feeling they were not going to go anywhere with this conversation. What was he saying to the kid? Douglas is just really bad at apologizing, even when Donald had been pushed by Adam, Bree, Chase and Leo to reconcile with his own brother. What was Douglas doing? He better get his act together fast or else they would be sitting there for hours without speaking. Of course, Douglas did not realize that Leo was already at the control panel and was uninstalling the Daven wall, causing Douglas to look in shock. How did Leo know how to deactivate it?

"What, how did you know how to undo that?" Douglas asked.

"What, you think you're the only person whose mentored me in the past? Chase taught me how to hack into things, including Big D's DavenWall without it requiring a thumbprint, and other stuff."

Leo smirked at his uncle, becoming more and more like a Davenport in all but name as the days go by.

Douglas could not take it anymore. He had to tell Leo why he did what he did. It was not because he did not trust Leo, but for something completely different.

"Okay, you know why I did what I did, Leo," Douglas snapped as Leo turned with a smirk and was beginning to walk away. "Here's why." The boy stopped and looked at his mentor, waiting for an answer. "I was afraid you would set off a laser sphere on your date and everyone at the restaurant would find out who you were. The government would be back on our backside, breathing down on our necks and take you away to the same fate that awaited Adam, Bree and Chase. I was not about to let that happen. Now, I don't know why, but the days I trained you made me realize you're the first real friend I ever had since he you came to me at the vending cart looking to help fix Bree's chip. I care about you, kid, like the younger brother I always wanted apart from Donald."

"Really?" Leo repeated

Douglas nodded.

"Look, Douglas, I am not saying you should worry," Leo said. "I just want you to worry a little less and not be an overprotective maniac like Big D is."

"Alright, alright," Douglas said as Leo waited for him to talk. "I hear you; I'll tone down the security. But don't think I won't stop keeping your training up to date and checking your arm for updates."

"Yeah, yeah, okay," Leo said. Then a thought came to him. "Hey, what about the GPS chip you put in my bionic arm? Can't you remove it?"

Douglas shook his head. "Sorry kid, but that will only happen if I lose my mind again."

He gave Leo a pointed look, who just crossed his arms in disappointment.
