Oliver Queen: Starling City's Saving Grace
Felicity Smoak
STARLING CITY - As my last project for The Sentential, I was tasked with building the ultimate profile on the illustrious Oliver Queen, CEO of Queen Consolidated. Queen is not the easiest person in the world to track down. There have been many speculations raised about him, and I am happy to shed some light on those speculations today.
Oliver Queen is dedicated to this city. His company was started by his father, and Queen inherited the company upon his father's death. When he first started out at the company, Queen admits to having no idea what he was doing and relied heavily on the staff his father had hired.
As time went on, Queen began adding his own staff to the team at Queen Consolidated. The company began developing tech that rivals that of Choi Industries in Central City.
"Queen has done amazing things at such a young age," a representative for Choi Enterprises shared in a recent interview. "We have used some of the tech that Queen Consolidated has designed in the latest rendition of Flash's suit. Without Oliver's willingness to work with us, we wouldn't have been able to continue operating at the level of success we have been able to offer."
I spent many months working with Oliver Queen in an effort to write this article, so I was granted the pleasure of getting to know some of his family and close friends.
"When Ollie puts his mind to something, there is no changing it, and I love that he put that attitude into the family business," Thea Queen said in response to a question about Oliver's work ethics. "If only I could get him to toss a little of that money towards Verdant. I could use that money to hire a few more security guards."
John Diggle, Queen's chief of security, chimed in on Thea's sentiments regarding Oliver's protection of his sister. "Oliver loves his family and would do anything Thea asked him to do. However, every time he's offered to put money into Verdant, Thea has respectfully declined. If I recall correctly, she tells him often that she wants to provide for the club on her own."
"He's a good man and an even better brother," Thea said. "He's always been supportive of me and whatever endeavors I wanted to undertake. Seeing him take pride in my success reminds me just how lucky I am to have him around."
Spending time with Oliver Queen and his family opened my eyes to the business world and showed me the influence of the press on the world. My former colleague's words painted Oliver Queen out to be a villain, causing chaos in Starling City. I can happily displace those rumors and tell you now that Queen is nothing like the man he was painted to be.
As for the rumors of Queen as the Green Arrow, stalking the city at night and defeating the bad guys running rampant around town, I can't speak to the truth. During my time working with Queen to complete this article, I can only say that I never saw him with a bow and arrow.
Sometimes the tabloid reports are better off in the magazines and out of the front page news.
