Chapter Nine: OH NO ITS TIME FOR THE DATE! I mean... Amber goes on a date.

Amber swatted Ocean's hand away from her face for the umpteenth time, irritation flashing through her. "I still can't believe that you did that!"

Ocean sighed, before glancing over at Rocky who was chuckling as she held a bag that you would see designer dresses being preserved in. Rocky shook her head, before striding over, shoving the bag into her hands. "Change into this Amber."

"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?" Amber glanced down at the worn jeans and beat up sweater that had the words I Survived the Night at Yang's Temple across it in bold.

Rocky rolled her eyes skyward as she eyed the pretty basic outfit. "The fact that is totally not first date material. This is. Now go change before I change you myself."

Grumbling to herself, Amber slipped behind the changing screen that Icey and set up earlier in her room. Really, it was as if her friends wanted her first date ever to go perfectly smooth or something. At least her female friends. Thankfully Storm and Juni were not involved with getting her ready... two hours before she was supposed to pick up Sam. Groaning to herself, she yanked her sweater off, before shaking off her jeans. Shivering, she unzipped the bag and quickly pulled out the clothing articles. Within seconds, she had the pale orange sweater tunic pulled on and the black leggings with a couple of horizontal slashes giving it a more rebellious girl look. Black leather, faux leather according to the tag, heeled boots completed the look. Along with a chain necklace that had small ninja themed charms scattered all over it, a matching pair of surprisingly enough herself in her ninja gi, and then a pair of faux leather fingerless gloves that by chance were the same color as the sweater tunic.

Amber ran her hands down her side, amazed about how well everything fit her to begin with. Walking out from behind the changing curtain, she almost flinched as her friends whistled at the sight of her. Icy raised one eyebrow upwards, glancing over at Rocky. "How did you get all of that in time for today?"

"Oh I made that entire outfit, jewelry included, ages ago. I designed entire wardrobes for our entire team after we first met. That just happens to be the first and only outfit for Amber I actually have finished." Rocky waved them off, as if it were no big deal. "Despite the whole red hair thing, I could tell that you will actually look good in some shades of orange. And then the reveal that she's the new Amber Ninja... I just had to make those earrings!"

Amber chuckled at that, before glancing over at her mirror, admiring her reflection. "Problem is now my hair doesn't really go with my outfit."

"Neither does your makeup." Ocean lifted up her hand, revealing that she was still holding the brush used for applying blush.

Icey walked over, standing right behind Amber as she gently pushed her down to sit in front of her vanity. "I happen to be pretty good with hair. Mother loves to tease me that I'll end up opening up my own hair salon when I'm older. I am sure she is just joking though and do not really take it seriously." She picked up Amber's brush, running it through her bright red hair. "Give me a few minutes and I'll have you looking like a star."

Amber wondered what she had gotten herself into as Ocean began to line up her makeup along the counter. "And I'll do your makeup!"

Sam tugged on his brown suit jacket that he wore over his green button down shirt, checking in the hallway mirror once more that he was ready for his date. He was wearing a basic outfit, green button and a pair of light brown slacks. The jacket had belonged to his father before he had passed away, and was in all honesty Sam's good luck charm. His tennis shoes however stuck out like a sore thumb compared to the rest of the outfit.

"Where are you going boy?" A voice nearly snarled from behind him.

Sam sighed, before answering the older man honestly. "I am going out on a date Grandfather."

"I see..." The doorbell rang right then, interrupting what was about to become a very awkward conversation.

"I will be back later!" Sam opened the door, expecting to see Amber wearing what she wore to the mall... not a complete outfit change.

HIs mouth went dry as he observed the new look that Amber had undergone. In truth she looked like, in his opinion, as if the Amber Ninja crossed over with a rebel. And man that look was amazing on her. Her hair was mostly down, with a small mini bun in the back, and orange eye shadow with green sparkles made her eyes pop out. "Hey."

"Hey yourself." Sam felt his mouth go dry, before vaguely remembering the tickets his mother helped him procure for the date. Leaning back into the house, he grabbed the white envelope with his name on it quickly. "Right... let's get going now, before my great-uncle decides to take pictures."

"Okay." Amber tucked a stray strand of red hair behind her left ear, moving to head down the steps to the sleek black car that was resting at the edge of his driveway.

"Wait... you already have your driver's license?" Sam glanced quickly over at his date, wondering how it was that she had managed to do that.

Amber rolled her eyes skyward, before pulling the driver's door open. "No. It's one of Borg Industries Self-driving Automobiles."

"Oh..." Sam blanched slightly as he recalled how expensive those things were. "Did your parents buy it for you for any particular reason?"

"It belongs to the school. Borg Industries donated a few of them to the school for student use, until we get our licenses." Amber explained as she slipped into the vehicle.

Sam gave a slow nod, before sliding into the passenger seat. "Okay... I'll buy that."

Amber wondered vaguely as they entered the restaurant if Icey knew who owned the popular chain, or if she simply didn't know why this place really was a bad idea. Slipping into a corner booth, she fingered her new necklace, worry nagging at her that something bad was going to happen any minute now, and Sam was going to hate her for life...

"Here you go. Some nice ice cold water. Do you know what you want for drinks, or would you like a minute?" Skylor swept up next to them, placing two water cups on the table.

Amber could feel herself turning beet-red even as she frantically shook her head. "No... water's good..."

"I wouldn't mind a Sprite if you have any." Sam raised an eyebrow upwards, possibly confused on why she was turning bright red in the face.

"I'll be right back with that Sprite." Skylor swept away from their table, pausing along the route that Amber had memorized and knew that their table belonged on. Okay... so Skylor wasn't by chance making one of her waitresses to step to the side.

A few minutes of Sam perusing the menu later, Skylor headed back to their table with a cup of Sprite, only pausing long enough to reach behind a rather tall plant and smack something. The muffled yelp told Amber exactly who her mother had smacked. "I am so dead..." Amber groaned as she burrowed her head into her arms.

"Here you go. Have you decided what it is that you are going to have tonight?" Skylor placed the cup in front of Sam, glancing over at Amber with a smidgen of concern.

"I will have your Jiaozi Dumplings." Sam sat down his menu, glancing curiously at Amber, probably wondering why she has yet to touch her menu.

Amber sighed, before mumbling out something that she enjoys to eat that she knew was on the menu. "I'll have the kung poa chicken."

"Okay..." Skylor eyed her daughter, as if trying to judge what was wrong, before leaving to put their orders in.

Sam shifted slightly, his gaze darting around the place as he took in the décor. "Is something wrong Amber?"

"No... I just honestly think that when Icey suggested this place she didn't realize that my mom is the CEO of the chain... or that she would be waiting on tables tonight." Amber glanced back to see her mother drag her father out from behind the plant by the ear, dragging him into the kitchen. "And Dad is spying on us as well as Mom waiting on our table. Great. Just great."

A/N: Done! Wait. Have I ever written a dating scene before? *thinks things over* Well, there's always a first for everything! Poor Amber... her first date and her mother is the waitress. And Kai thinks he's being oh so sneaky... and then Skylor smacks him and when that doesn't work she puts him on dish duty. No seriously, that is why Skylor's dragging him into the kitchen. She's setting him to work. Can't spy on Amber while scrubbing pots and pans!

Reviews:

Xola: Thank you. Ocean loves shopping so much, it drives all of her relatives up the wall. And now you can read how... one part of the date went. Thinking things over, I won't write the part where they go to the theatre. If you want to know what it that they are watching, it's just my story The Prince and the Princess. It's a Ninjago one so they'll 'understand' it a bit more than if it were a story from another fandom. Also so far you are the only one that has been reviewing this story for the past uh I think since chapter four though it looks like one other person reviewed chapter seven. Yikes. I mean chapter one is one person. Chapter is another person. Chapter three is you and two others, then its just you until we get to chapter seven, then it goes back to just you.

Review!
