CHAPTER 12

Memory lane

Quick note. There is going to be a (memory) in italics. it's honestly all over the place so please read carefully to avoid getting lost. I only say this because I almost got lost writing it. Thanks.

As Lucky thrashed around violently under his grip Bucky suddenly heard loud footsteps coming his way. "Shit" Sam muttered as soon as he saw her on the floor. He ran over to them and dropped to his knees beside her. "Let go of her" He ordered harshly knowing holding on to her could do more harm than good. Bucky instantly released her and looked at Sam who was pulling his hoody off. He threw it at Bucky. "Put it under her head" he ordered again. Bucky did as he was told knowing Sam was first aid trained and had likely witnessed a seizure before.

Sam lent over her and watched her for a second before looking up at Bucky who was paler than Sam had ever seen him. "What happened?" He asked calmly.

Bucky began shaking his head quickly, he was in shock. "Just- just fell and started having a seizure of something, I don't know" He panicked as he tried to get his words out quickly.

Wanda heard the commotion and came running from her apartment "Wanda, call an ambulance" Sam shouted to her as soon as he heard her foot steps. Wanda pulled her cell phone from her pocket and called 911.

Sam lent down a little further and touched her face. "Lucky can you hear me?" He asked in a calm and soft voice. He knew how to stay calm in a bad situation, he was trained for it, so was Bucky but he wasn't handling it as well.

Bucky reached for her trembling hand and took it in his. "Lucky?" He said in a shaky voice, he'd never felt so worried. He pressed his fingers against her wrist and looked up at Sam. "Her pulse is weak" He looked horrified Sam nodded but didn't respond he just kept trying to speak to Lucky. Bucky snapped his neck up and looked at Wanda who was stood behind Sam with her hand over her mouth clearly distraught. "Wanda do something!" Bucky pleaded to the witch.

She pulled her hand from her face and let out a shaky breath trying to stop herself from crying seeing her friend like this. "I can't go in her head I could make it worse" She reasoned holding back her tears.

Sam slapped Bucky's arm to get his attention. "She stopping" He said calmly. Lucky s body began to relax until she was completely still against the floor. Her eyes where still shut and breathing was shallow.

Sam closed his eyes and tried to recall his training, knowing he was the only one of use in this moment in time. "Roll her onto her side" He instructed. Bucky grabbed her body and rolled it closer to him and held her there, Sam nodded and looked over at Wanda.

"Ambulance is on it's way" She confirmed knowing he was about to ask.

Bucky's fingers gently brushed against her. He'd managed to blink the tears away but there was no masking the fear in his voice. "Why isn't she waking up?" He asked Sam without taking his eyes off Lucky. There was just an awful silence, Sam didn't have the answers, by rights she should've woken up when the seizure stopped. He began to think her problem could be much worse, something rooted deeper in her brain. He didn't want to scare Bucky so he said nothing at all.

Bucky and Sam where sat in silence on the floor leaning against the wall outside of her room. Bucky had buried his head in his hands trying to process what had happened. No one was allowed in while the doctors ran tests on her just another thing Bucky wasn't handling well, he wanted nothing more but to be at her side. Wanda paced up and down the hall in front of her room unable to rest wishing she could go in herself and check on her, she knew the doctors couldn't handle a case like hers.

Bucky hadn't said a word since they arrived, he sat with his elbows resting on his knees and his head in his hands. Sam looked down at his distraught friend and placed his hand on his back. "She'll be okay" He muttered quietly, Bucky didn't flinch at the touch or respond to the comment. "Bucky" Sam nudged him a little.

Bucky rubbed his stubble covered face before pulling his hands away. His eyes where dull with hints of red in them, his skin was pale he didn't look well at all, Sam's eyes softened at the sight of his friend, the only time he'd seen him in a similar state was when he remembered who he was, it wasn't a pretty sight. Bucky just stared ahead at the white wall at the opposite side of the hall. "The doctor said they don't know why she won't wake up. What does that even mean Sam?" He asked his voice still shaky.

Sam patted his friend on the back knowing he needed to be strong for him. "She is where she needs to be right now. You're Lucky you where with her when it happened man, you could of saved her life" Sam tried his best to reassure Bucky.

Wanda suddenly stopped in front of both of them and crouched down in front of Bucky, she rested one hand on her knee for balance and the other she rubbed against her chin. "What happened tonight?" She asked in a quite voice trying not to draw attention to them from the hospital staff. Bucky had no choice but to look at her, she was blocking his view of the wall. "Was she okay after our... session?" Wanda whispered the last word so no doctors or nurses over heard.

Bucky shrugged, he couldn't get the vision out of his brain of her saying Tom's name and falling. He shook his head, still confused. "She was fine, a little off maybe. She left about ten minutes after you" Bucky mumbled.

"Did you hear her fall?" Wanda asked.

Bucky rubbed his tired eyes and shook his head. "No I went to check on her. Like I said something was off" He said. "We talked for a minute, then she just..." His voice trailed off.

Wanda furrowed her brow "Did she say anything, was she feeling unwell?" She questioned.

Bucky sighed and quickly looked over at Sam who was still next to him. He looked from Sam to Wanda and then to his hands. "We we're... kissing" He said quietly almost sounding ashamed. He quickly looked up at Wanda who was nodding for him to continue. "It was fine and then I pulled away from her and she looked at me, she was so scared" Bucky's eyes widened as he remembered her face again, it send at shiver up his spine. "And then she said his name and passed out" He concluded.

"Tom?" Wanda asked with a frown, Bucky nodded as he felt fury rise in his body hearing the name again. "I was listening in before. She's stable but she hasn't woken up yet. Her brain activity is off the charts" Wanda whispered to the duo.

Sam lent forward off the wall leaning a bit closer to Wanda "Do you think she is remembering something?" Sam asked in a hushed tone. Wanda shrugged and Bucky said nothing. "Maybe kissing you brought back a memory of her and Tom?" Sam said now looking at Bucky, Bucky gritted his teeth at the idea of being compared to the monster that hurt her.

"We have worked her too hard" He snapped loudly unable to control his rising tempter, shocking both of them. A couple of nurses sat at a near by desk looked over at the trio on the floor. Sam shot them an awkward smile before looking back at Bucky and shushing him reminding him to keep his voice down. "Don't you see this is all of our faults, we have pushed her and pushed her and her brain has finally cracked from all the pressure" Bucky ranted still not making any effort to be quite.

"Stand down soldier" A voice came from his side. Bucky looked and saw Nick Fury walking down the hall towards them. He pulled himself up off the floor and walked to meet him.

Nick could tell by Bucky's stony expression he was angry "You knew she needed a break but you don't care" Bucky yelled pointing his metal finger in Nick's face. "As long as you get your precious information about HYDRA you don't care what happens to her" He accused with a murderous look on his face.

Nick folded his arms, he was not amused at all by the accusations that this was somehow his fault. "You need to see the big picture, this whole operation is bigger than Lucky" Nick argued.

Bucky's jawline hardened. "You're using her" He spat.

"Stand down soldier" Nick ordered taking a step closer to the volatile man in front of him.

Bucky didn't step down he stood face to face with Nick in a threatening stance. Suddenly Sam's arm was around his waist firmly pulling him. "Buck" He grunted trying to pull him away. "Outside" He hissed.

Bucky stared at Fury with a murderous look in his eye. "I'm not going anywhere, she's not leaving my site and the sessions with Wanda, are done. You're not going near her again" He ordered.

Nick smirked and shook his head. "You act like that is your call to make Barnes" His tone was almost sarcastic. "I could make your life very uncomfortable" Nick reminded him.

Bucky smiled a little in spite. "I'm sure I'll survive, always do" He muttered.

Sam looked at Fury and back at his friend he knew he had to act fast before a brawl broke out in the hospital. He grabbed Bucky by the arm and pulled him a lot harder until he finally shifted a little. "That is enough" Sam hissed. Bucky finally allowed Sam to pull him. "Come on" Sam ordered.

Sam dragged Bucky down the hall and out the nearest exit. Once the where outside he gave Bucky a little push in frustration. "You need to calm down!" Sam shouted at his friend.

Bucky turned to look at his friend with a nasty look on his face. "Fuck off, I'm going back in to make sure they don't go near her" He said in a venomous tone, he tried to push past Sam but Sam wasn't having it. He shoved Bucky as hard as he could willing to fight him if he had to.

Bucky grabbed him by his shoulders and attempted to move him out of the way. "Buck" He groaned loudly. Him and Bucky proceeded to grapple with each other "Stop" Sam shouted trying to ignore the pain of Bucky's metal fingers digging into his shoulder, Bucky stopped wrestling and Sam pushed him off him.

Bucky's mouth twisted around in anger. "You're suppose to have my back isn't that what friends are for?" He asked the hurt evident in his voice.

Sam frowned "Don't put this on me, you're the one making threats to the director. It's like you want him to lock you up and throw away the key" He argued.

Bucky laughed "I'd like to see him try" He muttered.

Sam had seen Bucky angry, he'd seen Bucky broken but he'd never seen this side of Bucky he didn't even know what this Bucky was. Sam stepped closer to his friend who was still wearing a murderous look. "Calm down" He said softly. "Listen I know you're upset, but this?" He paused and looked his friend up and down. "This isn't going to help Lucky" He told him in a steady tone.

Bucky closed his eyes and leant back against the brick wall of the hospital. He had his hands pressed against his face almost like he was praying. "We should of run when we had the chance" He whispered into his hands as he recalled the memory of Lucky asking him to distract Sam. He couldn't help but wonder if he'd of ran with her that day would she be in this hospital today.

Sam frowned only half hearing what Bucky mumbled into his hands. "What?" He asked.

Bucky shook his head and let his hands drop down to his side. "Nothin'. I'm going to go see her" He mumbled pushing off the wall and walking back towards the door.

"Buck" Sam called after him in a pleading tone. Bucky froze staring at the door, Sam came up behind him and stood in front blocking his way again, Bucky allowed it this time willing to hear what he had to say. "I'm here for you. You don't have to hide thing from me" Sam told him quietly. He knew Sam was a good man, a good friend, he could be trusted. Bucky knew he should let him in more but he didn't know how. Sam sensed Bucky's brain working overtime and offered him a small smile. "She'll be okay" He told him reassuringly.

Bucky shoulders sagged a little as he looked his best friend in the eye. "I said I'd protect her" he said in a weak voice.

Sam grabbed Bucky by the shoulder and shook it a little smiling at him. "You are protecting her, always man. The trip into your memories, I bet she loved that way more than diving into her nightmares" He told him trying to sound more positive.

"Didn't help though did it?" he retorted morbidly.

Sam sighed. "We can't control everything Bucky, if we could the world wouldn't suck as much as it does" he offered. Bucky said nothing just nodded as if to say he understood. Sam smacked him on the arm "C'mon you need to cool off lets go grab somethin' to drink and we can go back and see if the doctors are done in her room" He said nodding towards the door. Bucky slowly nodded and reluctantly followed him to the opposite direction of her room.

Nick Fury paced around out side of Lucky bedroom throwing demands to people on the phone. He was concerned for the girl and didn't want to risk letting her be unprotected if HYDRA decided to make a move while she was unable to defend herself. "I want security on all doors of the building and eyes in the sky while she is here, can't risk an attack. Get it done" He ordered who ever was on the phone before snapping it shut and shoving it back in his pocket. "What's your take on her condition" Nick asked turning his attention to Wanda who was lead against a wall with her arms crossed.

She bit her lip and shook her head. "With all due respect Nick, I'm not a doctor" Wanda replied quietly.

"Do you think prolonged exposure to your power could of done this?" He asked in a wary tone.

Wanda shrugged, she hoped that wasn't the case, if it was she wouldn't forgive herself for letting this happen. "I have used my power on many people and things and nothing like this has ever happened. I think this is something HYDRA have done to her" Wanda said finally. Nick cocked his head waiting for her to add more to her theory. "Her mind is fragile, almost as fragile as Bucky's, but she is more anxious not as physically strong. They could all be factors" Wanda added.

Nick nodded and smiled at her faintly before turning to Maria Hill who was stood beside him waiting for her orders. "I want the best doctors on this, call Banner hell call Strange if you have too" He told her in a stern tone.

She nodded. "Yes sir".

He turned back to Wanda who was nervously biting her fingernails. "No more trips inside of her head until we know what's going on" He told her, she replied with a small nod understanding. "And when G.I JOE gets back here make sure he keeps his jacket on and doesn't get noticed. Also make sure he doesn't kill a doctor for taking her blood pressure, that's all we need" Nick said with an eye roll. "When Sam gets back here we need to have a word with him, send him our way please" Nick added finally.

Wanda nodded again. "Will do" She said in a voice barley a whisper. Just like that Nick took off marching down the hall of the hospital, quickly followed by agent Hill.

Wanda stood around for another ten minutes anxiously chewing on her fingernails. She noticed many doctors and nurses pass her but not one said a word to her. Finally the the door of Lucky s room clicked open, a man in a long white coat slid out of the room gently closing the door behind him. When he turned he jumped a little as Wanda stood directly in front of him. "Doctor?" She asked in a small voice. "Can I see my friend now?" She asked with pleading eyes.

The doctor sighed and offered a small sympathetic smile. "Of course. She isn't awake or responsive but try talking to her. You never know it might help" He told her softly. Wanda smiled and slipped past him entering the room. She gently closed the door behind her and walked over to the side of her bed. Lucky was plugged up to many machines measuring everything from her heart and brain. Wanda s heart sank as she saw her lifeless tiny body led in the middle of a hospital bed.

She took a deep shaky breath and perched on the side of her bed. She looked down at her small hand that had a needle and tube sticking out of it, she gently interwind her fingers with Lucky's, being careful not to knock the needle. "Lucky can you hear me?" Wanda asked in a soft tone. There was no reply, she knew there wouldn't be.

Even though she had been warned against it Wanda couldn't help herself, she had to try and help her. She clamped her eyes shut tightly and concentrated on Lucky. "Let me in" She whispered. Wanda looked almost in pain trying to concentrate, but no matter what she couldn't get into her mind. Wanda's eyes shot open and she gasped in shock when she heard Lucky's voice.

"They have me..others...HYDRA.. Tom... Bucky" Lucky voice screamed directly in her head.

Wanda pressed her eyes together even tighter trying to focus on her voice. "What, Lucky calm down you're hitting me with everything" She said calmly hoping Lucky could head her, words that she couldn't quite make out and screamed bombarded Wanda's mind.

"Bucky! Where's Bucky?" Lucky's voice cried out in panic, she sounded like she was in pain.

"Wake up" Wanda ordered speaking out loud.

"I can't...I'm here, I can see but I need help... I can't leave" Lucky replied in the same frantic voice.

A tears formed in the hard line of Wanda's closed eyes. She shook her head still trying to concentrate on not loosing her friend. "How are you doing this?" She whispered out loud. Suddenly there was no voice in Wanda's head any more, her heart began to beat rapidly at the thought off loosing her line of communication. "Lucky?" She asked in a panicked voice.

Suddenly a deafening scream filled Wanda s head making her gasp "Help" Lucky screamed as she was crying out in pain, the sound was almost unbearable for Wanda.

More tears formed in Wanda s eyes. "Why can't I get in?" Her voice cracked as she spoke. She let out a little sob and held Lucky's hand tighter in hers. "I can't see, let me see" She begged her friend.

"The Children" She screamed. Wanda sobbed at the sound of her cry, so much pain. She heard Lucky struggling to breath, it was so loud. Wanda sobbed as she held her friends hand wishing there was more she could do to help her. Her brain was impenetrable she couldn't see, only hear what Lucky was letting her hear. "Bucky. 't hold it much longer" Lucky sounded like she was gasping for air. "Now Wanda" She whispered.

Wanda opened her eyes and dropped Lucky's hand jumping back slightly from the bed. Her heart hammered against her chest, she chocked out another sob and covered her mouth. It wasn't that she couldn't wake up, she wouldn't wake up Wanda realised. She quickly wiped the tears from her eyes and took off running out of the hospital room leaving Lucky alone.

Wanda ran around the hospital aimlessly looking for Bucky, she headed back in the direction of Lucky's room turning a corner at a high speed. She clashed into Sam who grabbed her by the arms stopping her from tumbling to the ground. "Slow down there Wanda before you take of flying without a broom" He joked placing her back on her feet. Her chest was heaving up and down rapidly and her eyes where slightly bloodshot. Sam cocked his head and suddenly looked more concerned "You okay?" He asked in a low voice.

She forced a smile and nodded quickly. "Sorry.. um Fury's looking for you" She blurted.

Sam was unconvinced but gave her a slow nod anyway. "Where is he?" He asked.

She shrugged and pointed at the same time. "Out front I'm guessing" She said with another false smile. Sam nodded slowly and began to walk away from her, Bucky who was stood by Sam's side looked at Wanda knowing something was wrong.

He stepped closer to her. "What is it?" He asked in a hushed tone so Sam wouldn't hear.

She reached to grab his hand and tugged him in the direction of Lucky's room. "Come with me" She whispered.

Bucky quickly followed her into the room expecting the worst news judging by Wanda's expression. His heart steadied a little when he saw Lucky was still breathing. He took a shaky breath and turned around to see what Wanda was doing. She was dragging all the hospital furniture in front of Lucky's door blocking it. Bucky frowned at her as if she had completely lost the plot. "What are you doing?" He asked, speaking at a normal volume now they where alone.

Wanda franticly rearranged the furniture to block the door. "Fury told me not to do this, he said until we know what's wrong I should stay out of her head but I just couldn't" She began to ramble.

Bucky was shocked and even annoyed. "You could hurt her" He scolded. She didn't listen she just kept stacking furniture up barricading them in the room. Bucky marched over to her and grabbed her arm pulling her away from the pile she had created. "Wanda stop" He ordered.

She snatched her arm out of his grip and spun around to face him. "No we can help her" she cried. He didn't mean to but he took a small step away from her in fear as her eyes where glowing red. She took a deep breath and they returned to normal, she hadn't meant to loose her temper with him she just wanted him to understand. Bucky stood quietly looking at her deciding in his head weather or not she was a threat to be around Lucky. Wanda sensed his unease. "I can communicate with her" She admitted.

Bucky scrunched his nose up "What do you mean?" He asked.

Wanda looked at the door and nodded, satisfied she'd done a good enough job. She slowly walked over to the foot of Lucky's bed and watched over her "She's trapped, well I think she is, either that or she isn't coming back on purpose. I haven't figured it out yet, she was trying to tell me but I don't understand" Wanda rambled quietly, Bucky appeared at her side now with his eyes fixed on Lucky.

"I don't understand, Wanda how have you talked to her?" He asked in a quite voice.

Wanda looked to her side and noticed another Large table at the back of the room. "Help me" She ordered.

Bucky followed her and single handily picked up the table she pointed at, he carried it and jammed it in with the rest of the furniture giving it a little push to make sure it would hold. "Why are we doing this?" He asked looking back at her with confusion in his eyes.

She nervously rubbed her face. "We can't be interrupted I might only have one shot at this. Her mind is weak, she knows it but she's holding on anyway, if I go in I could risk breaking everything. But if we don't she might not come out of this alive" She spoke so quickly Bucky was finding it hard to keep up.

He walked over to her hand rested his hand on her shoulder hoping it would calm her down. "Wanda slow down I don't understand" He whispered.

Wanda closed her eyes tightly and took a deep breath suppressing the urge to cry. "Her brain is shutting down. I think she is refusing to come out of a memory because she is uncovering so much information in there. I got bits and pieces of what she was saying, they have children in there, she is trapped and she can't hold on. She asked for you Bucky. I can't get in but maybe you can" She told him now holding onto his arm that was resting on her shoulder. "Sit down and I'll try my best to get you there" She whispered letting go of him.

Bucky narrowed his eyes. "What do you mean try?" He asked in a wary voice.

Wanda perched at the foot of Lucky's bed allowing Bucky to sit beside her. "She can't guide me she is to busy trying to keep that memory alive" Wanda explained. "I'll get you in her head but it might be harder than usual" She told him honestly.

Bucky was worried. He walked around to Lucky's side and looked down at her, she was so fragile. "We shouldn't do this. Wanda you need to stop you could hurt her more" He warned in a low voice still keeping his eyes on Lucky.

"Do you want her to wake up?" Wanda asked now irritated by his lack of cooperation. Bucky snapped his neck to look at her and wore a scowl, she knew the answer. "I know how you feel about each other, don't look at me like that. I have powers and sometimes I think you all forget that" She argued "So get on the bed and hold her hand, it might help, I held her hand when she spoke to me" She said quickly.

Bucky slowly eased onto the bed next to her, the thin mattress dipped as he brought both legs up and settled them next to hers. He looked down at her hand and slowly laced his fingers in-between hers, carefully and slowly so he didn't knock the needle sticking out from her hand. "What if someone comes?" He asked in a low voice staring down at her tiny hand in his metal one.

Wanda took a deep breath and composed herself. "I'll try holding them as long as I can, we have one shot Bucky are you up for this. Once you are there I don't know what will happen" Wanda warned.

Bucky nodded knowing this could go badly, she was right about one thing, he wanted Lucky to wake up so badly he would try anything. "Send me" He said confidently.

Wanda nodded. "Close your eyes" She instructed as usual.

When he opened his eyes the first thing he noticed was how hot it was, he was still wearing the same black jacket he'd been wearing in the hospital. He shielded his eyes from the blistering sun as he looked up and around trying to figure out where he was. It was quite, the only noise was coming from chirping birds in the trees. He was confused, was this in Lucky's head? He thought to himself. He was stood in the middle of a road, it looked like a very nice neighbourhood, everything was so bright and beautiful.

A gentle tugging on his left arm made him snap his head down. A little girl no more than five years old was holding onto his hand with hers. She pulled the sleeve of his jacket up and looked up at him with a big toothy smile. "Hey mister you have a shiny hand and arm. Like a knight from my book" She said in an excited tone. His brow was furrowed and he slowly pulled his hand from the little girls grip.

"Who?" He whispered confused looking down at the little girl.

She giggled at the tall man. "I'm Ava wanna play Knight and princess with me?" She asked with a big smile. She did a little spin in front of him, she was dressed in a puffy pink princess dress. For a moment his lip curled up threatening to smile but it left as soon as it arrived when he realised he was in the wrong memory.

"..No, I uh" He trailed off looking around wondering how he would get from here to the right memory. He ran his metal hand through his hair and turned his body full circle looking for some kind of sign.

He looked down as the child version of his friend who was stood pouting with her hands on her hips. "Why not?" She complained sticking her bottom lip out.

Bucky began to back away from the child knowing he needed to move fast. "I just.. need to.." he trailed off again not concentrating properly.

Suddenly the little girl gasped and pointed at him. "Watch out mister the car!" she cried, Bucky turned and brought his hand up to cover his face he was suddenly knocked from his feet.

He grunted from the impact of the car and was lead face down on the floor, he frowned into the ground when he noticed it was ...soft? He tilted his head up and he was no longer outside, the little girl nowhere to be seen.

He pulled himself up to his feet and turned in a circle taking in his surroundings. It was a bedroom, the walls where white with orange flowers decorating them. The bed was neatly made with two stuffed animals sitting on top of it. He noticed some picture frames on the window ledge and slowly walked over to them. It was Lucky, he picked up one of the pictures, she was about 18 maybe 19 young with long brown hair falling to her waist, she was laughing in the photo. "Jesus Christ" A voice gasped. Bucky dropped the photo and it smashed onto the floor, he whipped around and saw Lucky, an 18 or 19 year old Lucky. His eyes widened in shock, she was wearing a US ARMY tight fitting T-shirt and tight denim shorts, her hair was wet and half wrapped in a towel. "Who are you and what the hell are you doing in my room?" She asked furiously, he noticed she didn't look scared almost like she was used to men being around.

He opened his mouth but struggled to speak as the younger version of his friend furiously glared at him. "I … Bucky?" He said sounding almost unsure. "Lucky" He whispered looking her up and down.

She scrunched her face up at the weird man and looked him up and down. "Lucky I don't knock your lights out what the hell are you doing in my room Bucky?" She emphasised on his name.

Bucky shook his head again in confusion. It's like he was on a tour of her memory's, he needed to find the right one. "This isn't right Wanda, this is the wrong place... the wrong time" He muttered.

The girl rolled her eyes and gestured toward her bedroom door. "I'm not Wanda you have the wrong room. Maybe you should concentrate a little more and stop wondering around people private areas maybe?. go on get out" She told him an angry voice. Bucky stood frozen for a second, she groaned at the man "Do I need to push you?" she threatened.

Bucky quickly snapped back and began to walk towards the door. "No, I got it... sorry" He mumbled.

"You will be if I catch you in my room again" She muttered.

He walked through the door and suddenly he was outside again. This time in some kind of Army camp. The sky was Gray it was threatening to rain. He spotted Lucky right away, this time she was in uniform walking in-between a squad of men.

"Drop and give me fifty Jones" She ordered a young man, Bucky recognised the name, the young man was one from a memory he'd seen before, he was dead now.

"Come on Sarge" Jones groaned as he dropped to the floor.

Lucky smirked at the young man. "Don't come on Sarge me, do it" she ordered. She looked up and spotted Bucky, he froze still and she began to walk over to him. At this time she must have been twenty two. "You look familiar, you're not in my squad?" She asked confused looking him up and down.

"Bucky" He offered.

She smiled and nodded sweetly at him. "Bucky, where do I know you from?" she asked narrowing her eyes.

He began to feel more nervous "I uh.." he trailed off not knowing what to say.

She smiled and pointed behind him. "Recruitments through that door if that's why you're here. You look like you'd make a good soldier. Maybe you could join us someday" She offered with a smile. Bucky smiled back at her.

"Um thank you" He mumbled.

She laughed and patted his arm. "No problem, excuse me" she said with a nod. She turned around and marched back over to her squad. "Jones I said fifty you little girl" She yelled. Bucky wanted to stay and watch but he knew they didn't have much time. He turned and quickly made his way to the next door, he paused for a moment and took a deep breath before walking through it.

It was so … white. The lights, the walls even the ground, just white. It was a clinical place, he felt a chill throughout his body, this had to be it he told himself. He walked further until he saw her, she was stood next to Tom. He stopped quickly and ducked down behind a table to watch what happened.

Tom smirked as he stroked Lucky on the arm "My little soldier I want you to kill them" He whispered into her ear. Bucky gritted his teeth so hard he thought they where going to crack from pressure, wrong memory again.

Lucky looked different, more cunning, evil perhaps. She looked at the five men armed with weapons in front of her with a psychotic and blood thirsty grin. "Yes boss" she purred.

Bucky closed his eyes not wanting to see her like this, he heard the cries from the

men and the sounds of bones snapping.

"Please don't" He heard one man cry before a loud crunching sound Bucky could only assume was his neck being broken.

"Shut up" He heard Lucky mumbled carelessly. This wasn't her, not the real her he told himself.

He opened his eyes and peaked over the table. Lucky was covered head to toe in blood splatter with a big smile on her face. "You my dear" Tom whispered as he caressed her cheek with the back of his hand wiping the blood from her face. "Are my most precious asset" He whispered before leaning down and kissing her.

Bucky reminded himself it was a memory. "I like that" Lucky purred against the lips of the sick man. "What do you need from your precious asset next?" She whispered seductively.

Bucky stood up and began walking back to the door not wanting to be in this memory any more. "I think you already know what makes me most happy" He heard the slimy mans voice. He twisted his face in anger and pushed through the door hoping it would lead him to the right memory.

The door had taken him somewhere else. This place was dark and cold, he could hear the scared whispers of children. He looked around and saw a large cage containing a group of young kids. His eyes widened when he realised he was getting closer, they must have been the children she was talking about.

He saw Lucky, she looked different again, her hair was pinned up on top of her head and she was dressed in all black. She was knelt down on the other side of the cage smiling softly at the kids. "Make sure you eat everything. We don't want you getting weak" she said in a soft voice. A little girl on the other side of the bar began to cry quietly. Lucky pushed her hand through the bar and wiped away her tears. "Please don't cry, you will be okay" She whispered with a smile.

"I miss my mama" the girl chocked out.

Lucky sighed and pulled her hand back through the bars. "Mr Decker will give you a better life than you're mama could of dreamed of" She told the little girl. She stood up and placed her hands on her hips. "Eat up child, please don't be sad okay. We are not going to hurt you" She told her with a big more authority in her voice. She didn't say anything else she simply turned and walked away leaving the children locked up.

Bucky wondered over the the kids carefully looking around making sure no other HYDRA members where in the room. "Kid" He whisper shouted getting the little girls attention. She looked up at his with wet eyes. "What's your name?" He asked offering the girl a small smile. She shook her head and looked back down to the floor. Bucky sighed not having time for this. "Tell me now" He ordered in a voice a little louder.

She looked up at him through the bars. "We're not allowed to say" She whispered.

Bucky smiled and held onto the bars "It's okay, I'm a friend my name's Bucky" He offered.

The little girl looked unsure, she turned to a boy who was stood next to her and then back to Bucky "Leila.. this is my little brother Carter" She told him in a small voice.

Bucky smiled, the missing kids, HYDRA had them all along. "You're all from New York right?" He asked in a happy voice realising he'd found them.

She nodded. "Mister can you let us out?" She asked.

Bucky let go of the bars still smiling, he knew this was in her memory but the fact was he knew where they where. He knew if they found the HYDRA location they would find the kids. "I'll be back for you soon I promise" He told the girl before running to the next door.

"Mister" The girl cried out after him.

"I promise" He shouted back to her before rushing through the door.

He stumbled slightly into the next room. This new place looked like a place he remembered all to well, a similar room they kept him in when he was an asset to HYDRA "Bucky" A pained voice shot out.

He looked up and saw Lucky strapped down on a table, he ran over to her. "Lucky" He let out a sigh of relief, he grabbed the restraints on her arms and began to pull at them to free her.

She wiggled on the bed, pain was written all over her face. "No, No stop you can't" She let out breathlessly. She looked like she was in pain, her skin was pale and she had tiny bruises dotted around her face.

He frowned "What?" He asked genuinely confused why she didn't want to be freed.

She closed her eyes tightly and gritted her teeth trying to control her pain. "I have to hold this memory" she gasped. She looked up at Bucky who looked broken, he wanted to rip her from the restraints and wake her up. Her wet eyes met his "Please" she whimpered. "You need to find out where we are, what this building is" She managed to get out.

Bucky slowly shook his head, he didn't know if her pain was real or a memory, it scared him. "Lucky is this the memory or are you here?" He asked in a wary tone.

She began to shake a little, she closed her eyes and a tear slipped from them dropping straight onto the metal table she was anchored to. "No and yes, it's me I just-" She cut her self off gritting her teeth as a new wave of pain shot through her body. She gasped and her eyes shot open, they landed on Bucky again. "Please... They are just kids" She whispered. She tilted her head to look at him and bright red blood began to stream from her nose.

Bucky lent over her and touched her face gently realising this was her memory beginning to fall apart "You're dying, trying to hold this is killing you" His voice cracked as he spoke. She knew what his tone implied, he wanted her to stop but she knew she couldn't until he found out where they where.

A fresh set of tears began to leak from her eyes. "They're just kids Bucky" she whispered in a shaky voice. Bucky scrunched his face and closed his eyes trying to stop himself from crying. He kept his hand on her face and hung his head not wanting to leave her. "Please" she begged.

He opened his eyes and took a deep shaky breath, he pulled his hand away from her face gently. Her face scrunched up almost like she was in pain when the contact of his hand left her skin. "I'll be back for you I promise, hold on okay" He told her.

She managed to nod even though her movement was restricted. "Okay" she whispered. Bucky lingered for a second, it's like his body was refusing to leave her. "Please hurry" She begged.

He nodded and swallowed the lump that was forming in his throat. "Just hold on please" He whispered to her.

Peter walked along side Sam and the director through the hospital halls. He was dressed in his normal clothes as instructed so he didn't draw attention to himself. "I've been in every neighbourhood searched high and low and I can't find any traces of these kids. No one saw what happened, it's like they just vanished into thin air" He complained walking along side his new partner.

Sam groaned annoyed they still had no leads on the case. "I appreciate you looking man I just hope this isn't a cold case. They need to be home with there parents" He let out a deep sigh.

Peter nodded. "I'm gonna head out on patrol again, see if I can hear any chatter on the street" He told Sam in a cheerful tone.

Sam nodded getting used to working with the kid now, maybe he wasn't so bad but Sam wasn't going to let him know that. "Thanks man, stay in touch" He mumbled slapping Peter on the shoulder. Peter smiled at Sam and the director before taking off in the opposite direction. Sam and Fury continued to walk slowly through the hall back to Lucky's room.

"Where's the soldier?" Fury asked breaking the silence between them.

Sam almost rolled his eyes. "You know he doesn't like it when you call him that" He mumbled. Fury smiled a little, Sam looked over at the desk and saw Lucky's doctor. He nodded toward the doctor and Fury followed him over. "Excuse me doctor. Is she okay?" Sam asked.

The doctor looked up from his notes and smiled at the man recognising him as one of his patients friends. "She hasn't woken up yet but your friends are with her now, feel free to go in" He told him with a smile.

Sam and Fury walked over to the door, Sam grabbed hold of the handle and pushed, the door didn't move.

He stared down at the handle frowning. "It's locked" He said quietly.

Fury shook his head and stepped closer to the door, he clenched his fist and his it against the door two times. "Barnes. Open this god damn door" He called out in an annoyed tone.

Wanda jumped out of her skin, she was trying to concentrate so she didn't loose either of them in the memory. "Shit" She whispered when Fury knocked again loudly. She clenched her teeth "Please go away" She shouted in a shaky voice.

On the other side of the door Fury and Sam both stood with confused expressions on their faces. "Wanda?" Sam asked in a quite voice.

"Please open the door Wanda" Fury said in a slightly more gentle tone than he'd used when he thought it was Bucky on the other side. There was no reply, Sam began to look nervous but Fury was growing more annoyed. "Open the door" He ordered.

"Bucky are you in there too?" Sam called out hoping his friend would respond and tell them what was going on.

"Go away please, I'm helping her but you need to go" They heard Wanda's strained voice shout.

Fury shook his head and looked at Sam. "Open it" He said quietly instructing for Sam to kick the door in.

Sam looked around at the doctors and nurses who where pretending not to watch the scene. "Sir" He said quietly hoping to reason with him. Sam knew in his heart Wanda wouldn't hurt Lucky and if she was telling them to leave she had a reason for it.

Fury didn't care for waiting. "Open the god damn door Wilson" He ordered.

Sam sighed not wanting to but orders where orders. He backed away from the door and suddenly threw himself at it. The door didn't budge, Sam stood up straight looking completely confused. Hospitals doors where thin, he should of broke that down easily. "It's stuck or somethin" He said with a confused expression.
