Ch.12

Later that night, we're all laughing around a dinner table. This is the most food I've seen. Rick convinces Lori to let Carl have a sip of wine. He makes a face that causes everyone to laugh again.

All the laughing and having fun has almost made me forget that Trevor is still here. I eye him wearily. Something doesn't seem right. How could I forget that I have a boyfriend? I freeze when he looks over at me and smirks. I go back to eating my dinner.

After drinking a glass of wine, I smile at Daryl nudging his arm as he tries to take a sip. He almost misses, and we laugh at each other. I'm glad everything's back to normal between us.

As I look around the room at everyone, I notice Trevor glaring at Daryl. What's his probem - can't have a little fun? He notices me staring at him and he perks up. I try to ignore him, but he continues following my every move. He smirks at me, and I quickly ask for another glass of wine.

"Keep drinking little man. I want to see how red your face can get." Daryl speaks up to Glenn. I start laughing at him. "Daryl." I giggle. "What?" he grins at me. "Okay. It would be funny, though. I have to admit." We all laugh at my statement.

"Oh, yeah? Let's see how red your face can get." Glenn raises his glass to me and I giggle. "Yeah. Drink up." Daryl looks over at me with a grin on his face.

I raise my glass and chug the rest of my drink. I let out a sigh after placing the empty glass down on the table. "who's next?" I challenge raising an eyebrow at Daryl. We both burst out laughing.

Everyone's having a really good time. That is until Shane brings up wanting to know about what happened to the rest of the doctors. We sit in silence as Dr Jenner explains to us what happened. "Dude, you are such a buzzkill, man." Glenn pipes up looking at Shane.

Jenner gives us a tour of the facility after we finish eating. I can't believe this place. It's so nice compared to what we're used to. I can't believe there's electricity and running water. We all run to our respective showers as we think about hot water.

I step out into the hallway looking for Daryl. "Daryl?" I call out. I hear a door open. "Hey." he says standing in the doorway. I smile at him. "How's it going? That hot water, huh?" I nudge him giggling. He smiles at me and it's a genuine smile.

"Daryl, can I ask you something?" I step in front of him. "Yeah." he leads me inside his room. "Did I do something to you before?" I question sadly looking up at him. "What do you mean?" he replies closing the door.

I put on a stern face. "Back before at the camp. Did I do something wrong? Why were you so mean to me?" I look down at the floor. Just as sudden as my question appeared, Daryl's smile fades and he sighs.

"Look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean it." Daryl says propping my chin up. I turn around quickly. "Then why did you do it? Do you know how much that hurt me?" I plead for an answer. He rakes his hands through his hair.

I turn around slowly and continue pleading for an answer. "I've been wondering about this for a while. Just tell m..." I plead before Daryl pushes me up against the wall.

I stare at him wide eyed. He looks at me apologetically. "I can't tell you. At least not yet." Daryl finally speaks up. I can't believe he did that. My heart is racing. We stare into each other's eyes for a while.

A thought crosses my mind to get back at him. "Why?" I say seductively as I lean my head back against the wall. He stares at my lips. Bingo! I've got him right on target. "Because...I just can't." he whispers leaning closer to me.

I smirk at him. I will get him to talk. It's mostly the wine making me do this. I can feel the heat rising in me. "Anyway. It doesn't matter anymore, right?" I put my hand on his chest and lean up to him.

"We all good? No more acting all mean and hateful to me for no reason?" I inch up closer to him. "Sure." he huffs out, then licks his licks. I've got him now. He bends down slowly stopping a few inches from my lips to stare at me again for reassurance. I smile at him and close my eyes.

I can't believe this is working. He must be feeling pretty good from all the wine. No doubt I am, too. My spine tingles as I think about our lips touching. We're mere inches apart from kissing when I hear pounding across the hall.

"Mae! Let's talk!" Trevor calls through the door. We both stop what we were doing and break apart. We look at each other embarressed. Then Daryl walks away to the bathroom.

I walk over to the door and open it up with a sigh. This better be important. I see Trevor pounding on my door across the hallway. He turns around to look at me with a bottle of wine in his hands.

"There you are, babe." he greets drunk as can be. "Did you even miss me?" he sways closer to me. I catch him before he could fall. "Are you okay? And don't call me 'babe'. I don't know you." I reply honestly. Should I really be worried about him?

"You do to." Trevor whines at me. "You need to go to bed. Sleep off some of that drunkenness." I lead him down the hall. "No! I'm not going anywhere without you!" he yells pushing me up against the wall still holding the wine bottle.

"Get off me, Trevor! You're drunk!" I shove on him. "So are you." he grins evilly. He chugs the rest of the wine and throws it on the ground. "No way, babe. You're mine." he leans over to kiss me

I smack him as hard as I can and he stumbles backwards. Noticing my chance, I run into my room and slam the door. "That's not very nice!" Trevor shouts through the door.

I put all my weight on the door to hold it shut, but he opens it with ease. I look around scared as I back up from him. "Honey, I'm home." he smirks at me. I start throwing everything I have at him. Anything I can get my hands on.

As he gets closer to me, he grasps my hands. "Trevor, let me go! Now!" I try to break free, but it's no use. "You're not going anywhere, Mae." he pins me to the wall farthest away from the door. I whimper from the pain in my wrists.

"Ow! You're hurting me!" I cry out. Trevor bends down to kiss my neck. "What's wrong, babe? You like this." he kisses up to my lips. I bite him and kick him in the groin. He falls to his knees in pain.

I rush over to the door, but he grabs my leg. "Let go of me!" I scream trying to shake him off. As he gets to his feet, he grabs me by the shoulders and smacks me across the face. I fall hard to the ground and stare teary-eyed at him.

Trevor pins me to the floor as he yells at me. "Daryl!" I scream as loud as I can. He covers my mouth. "You don't have time for your boy toy right now." he leans over me. He kisses me again as he rips my shirt open.

I scream as loud as I can to get anybody to hear me. "I'm gonna show you just how much I love you!" Trevor pants fumbling with his pants button. I'm really scared now. Why hasn't anyone come to save me yet? The tears keep flowing.

I scream as he yanks my pants down my legs. "Daryl, help!" I yell at the top of my lungs. Trevor stops messing with my underwear and smacks me hard across the face again.

"Don't be calling some other guy's name out when you're getting it from me." he hisses grabbing my chin harshly. He kisses me again roughly this time and slams my head back on the floor. I cry in pain.

A second later, Daryl comes bursting through the door. "Mae!" he pants. His eyes go wide at Trevor on top of me. He rushes up and shoves Trevor off of me. He starts punching the hell out of him. "Don't you ever touch her again, you little prick! You hear me! Never!" he continues punching Trevor in the face.

I'm crying as I watch this whole interaction. When Daryl finally stops beating Trevor, he stands up to look at me. My cheek is beginning to swell and blood is trickling down the corner of my mouth.

Daryl, then, looks back at my assaultant and kicks him a couple times. "Don't you ever come near Mae again! I don't ever want to see you around her again! Don't talk to her...hell, don't even look in her direction! If you do, I will end you right then and there! Got it!" Daryl shouts and throws him out of the room.

Daryl rushes over and holds me as I cry. "You okay? Did he hurt you?" Daryl asks pulling back from me. He puts a hand to my bruising cheek. I flinch away from the pain and he stares into my face.

"I'm sorry for not getting here in time - for not watching out for you." Daryl states as he takes me in another hug. The tears keep rolling down my face. He kisses my forehead and closes his eyes.

"I promise I won't let anything else bad happen to you" he promises. I believe him, but you can't stop everything. I'm just glad he got here in time before the worst happened.
