Elsa stared at herself in the mirror, trying to decide if this would work. Anna's directions had been, dress nice but not fancy. She took a deep breath. That could still mean so many different things as everyone had a subjective taste in what was nice and what was fancy.
She straightened the collar on her blue button up shirt, the sleeves rolled up to just under her elbows. Black slacks and a nice pair of black heels seemed to complete the outfit. Elsa just really hoped it was appropriate.
She'd tried to pry details from Anna over the past week but the actress had proven surprisingly tight-lipped about it, deftly changing the subject every time. Elsa had tried pressuring Belle who just blinked at her and admitted she had no idea what Anna had planned. That her only instructions were to make sure nothing interrupted their date night unless the place was burning down.
She could appreciate that. And did. She also knew other times when Belle had been her emergency 'get-me-out-of-this-date' contact. And there'd been a few until she'd just decided to stop dating.
Elsa turned around and smiled to see two white fuzzballs staring at her from the doorway. "Well, what do you think?" she asked her cats.
Marshmallow just stood up, and walked out, with a flick of his tail. Olaf, on the other hand took that as an invitation to dart over to her and play, trying to tangle up along her legs, causing the blonde to do some quick movements to keep him from getting more fur on her than would happen by just living with the cats. It was why she kept a roller in her car and office. She'd need to take something so she would not go on this date covered in fur.
Now that she wasn't busy focusing on anything else she couldn't distract herself from how she was feeling - which was completely a bundle of nerves.
She leaned against the bar in her kitchen, pulling her phone out to stare at it. No messages yet. She still had fifteen minutes before Anna said she'd be here. Of course, that meant any time from now, or even fifteen minutes late. Thankfully, Anna had become a bit more punctual than that.
Elsa flipped open the photo gallery on her phone, and flipped through the images. She hadn't realized how...dull and boring she'd been; her life had been before this. Now she had Anna who would make sure she got out on her days off and not just work herself to death.
The photos were goofy ones the two of them would catch, but a few were ones of Anna that Elsa had taken without the actress knowing it. Or if Anna did know she didn't say anything. She'd thought they'd just be held onto as memories for when Anna lft. Now she wasn't sure what they'd be for.
The doorbell interrupted her thoughts and she closed her eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath before heading over to answer it. Elsa froze as she stared at Anna.
Anna was dressed similar to Elsa, with a deep green button up shirt, that was buttoned up until the last few buttons which were open to show off the lace of a camisole. At least, Elsa hoped that's what it was...her brain couldn't handle if it was anything else. And black jeans.
Elsa realized she was staring when she saw the smirk on Anna's lips and the blonde blushed stepping back so she could come in. "Sorry..." Elsa muttered.
"It's fine. I'll take it as a compliment," came the easy response as Anna stepped in.
Elsa closed the door and took a moment to gather her thoughts. This was not going to be easy. "It is a compliment, and you look very nice tonight, Anna."
"Thank you," Anna responded with a smile. She bent down to stop Olaf from rubbing his white fuzzy head on her black jeans. "Silly boy, not tonight." She gave him a scratch behind the ear then smiled at Marshmallow doing his usual lurking. "I love the fact we had similar ideas in how to dress for the evening," Anna said looking between their outfits.
"Well, you didn't give me much to go on and I figured this was versatile enough for whatever you'd have planned."
"It's perfect, Elsa," Anna said, moving back to the woman and kissing her cheek. "You look perfect." Anna gestured for the door and then walked to it herself, opening the door.
Elsa grabbed her purse and then moved over to the door following Anna to her car, curious as to the plans and looking forward to finding out what this gorgeous woman had done.
Elsa walked out of the theatre with a smile, looking up at the moon before looking over to Anna. "I have to admit that this evening has not been what I expected." She took a deep breath and licked her lips. "Thank you."
Anna nodded. "I figured it would be something fun for us. And...show that I did listen. When you told me what you had wanted to ask me the night I bailed out of town."
Elsa nodded, her thumb rubbing the scar on her hand. "I know. And i think that makes this very sweet. I didn't know that you'd have done this. I haven't paid much attention to the local theatres beyond charitable support for them."
"What? No giving advice on how to do a stage layout, or how to make a room look like it belongs in the twenties," Anna asked as she grinned at her best friend.
"Nope. Our teacher would ask me to do so but I was always busy. I mean, perhaps if I wasn't running the company," Elsa said, though she had a feeling she'd have found some way to be busy and to be unavailable. The theatre lost a lot of its shine when Anna had left.
"Come on, we're not done yet," Anna said, Elsa's hand and giving her a tug down the street, away from the car.
"We're not?"
"Nope!" Anna replied with a grin as she stepped into a cafe.
Elsa smiled as they stepped in and then looked around, smiling at the cabinet of pastries. Her gaze traversed the drink menu and she knew why they were here. A conversation from them being teens and Anna had made Elsa tell her a perfect date. It had been so cheesy but Elsa had admitted she'd hoped after whatever movie or whatever they'd done that if it was late enough they'd stop for hot chocolate and a dessert.
"Did you seriously remember?" Elsa asked softly.
Anna blushed, ducking her head, looking so much like that teenager for a moment. "Yeah. I did. I mean. Yes. I remembered. It was cute."
"It was sappy as hell."
"Cute."
Elsa rolled her eyes as she stepped up to the counter. Her eyes traveled over the menu when her perusing was interrupted by a shrill squeal.
"OH MY GOD! You're Anna Summers!" came the young barista's overly excited voice.
Elsa quickly stepped back, looking over at Anna who looked uncomfortable with the sudden attention.
"I loved you in..." the young man continued, obviously oblivious to Anna's discomfort as Elsa partially tuned out, pulling out her phone to check if there were any messages, one eye on her friend to see if she needed rescuing.
Finally, Elsa couldn't take the gushing and she could watch Anna's smile become even more fake as she delt with the overly excited fan. "How about I take a picture with your phone...Sam, with you and Anna?" Elsa asked, holding out her hand, as if it was a foregone conclusion the barista would say yes.
"Of course! If Ms. Summers doesn't mind...I mean..."
"Not at all. Then my friend and I would like to place an order," Anna said, shooting Elsa a grateful look.
Elsa took Sam's phone and after a quick glance held it up and had them both smiling before snapping the photo. "All right, there you go," she said, handing the phone back. "Now, our order?" Elsa said, her tone making it clear the kid would keep his end of that bargain.
The two women were quiet as they both ordered peppermint hot chocolates and a chocolate croissant each. Instead of finding a quiet table in the corner, Elsa followed Anna out and then the duo walked back toward Anna's car. Elsa sipped her chocolate and kept quiet, letting Anna sort out what she needed to in her head.
"I'm sorry," Anna said, finally, when her car was in sight.
"What for?" Elsa said. "If it's that barista, I'm honestly not surprised. I'm more surprised it doesn't happen more to you."
"Depends on where I am. Most people I think just leave people be and let us try and live our lives. Also there's the deal with Hans and people aren't sure what to think," Anna added. "Or they're like your receptionist, and think I'm a hussy and the worst person on the planet."
"All because he got the lie out there faster than your truth," Elsa said, a bit angry on behalf of Anna.
"Pretty much." Anna walked over to her car. "Not how I pictured our date ending, so I'm sorry."
"It's fine. I'm...touched you remembered an inane conversation from when we were teenagers." Elsa paused then held out her hand. "Let me have the keys...or the key fob...I'm driving."
Anna blinked and then passed the fob over before. "Okay..."
Elsa just grinned and then took a sip from her hot chocolate before slipping into the car. "Okay, seriously, why are you short?" she asked, putting the hot chocolate in a holder and the bag with the croissants in Anna's lap so she could adjust the seat.
"I completely blame my parents for my less than tall stature," Anna quipped with a smirk.
"Makes sense, Elsa said as she pulled out of the parking spot. She refused to answer Anna's questions about where they were going. However, after fifteen minutes, Anna fell quiet as she recognized where they were going.
"You remembered, too," Anna finally said when Elsa finally parked the car and turned it off, looking out over the man-made lake outside their town.
The moon reflected off the water and gave an almost ethereal feeling to the area. Elsa took her hot chocolate and sipped it before nodding.
"I...haven't forgotten many of the things we'd talk about as kids, Anna," Elsa said quietly. "I don't think I could. I don't think I'd want to. There was a point I did...but not now."
Elsa was completely surprised when Anna reached over and up, turning her head and then those lips were on hers again, and this time Elsa responded, teasing those soft lips with the tip of her tongue, tasting the chocolate there.
When the kiss ended, Elsa pulled back and looked out the front window, a slight smirk on her lips.
"So...best date ever?"
Elsa laughed as she leaned back.
"So far."
