A/N: Soooooo sorry for the delay! Life has been kicking my tail recently, and it's caused me to have a bit of writers block...hope you guys can forgive me!
So, Godzilla Vs Kong has my Monsterverse hype up, so im happy to announce I'm working on this story again! We're almost at the end! Here's where the story will change a bit from here on out, to fit with what we learned in KOTM about the relationships among the Titans!
I know this part is a bit short, but it's the most profound scene in TLK, so I didn't want to bog it down with unnecessary stuff. Next chapter is going to lead into the climax, so get ready!
~MSG
All this walking for some lagoon on the other side of the Oasis? They could have skipped all of this trouble and just went to the fishing cove if the old man wanted to just see some blue water. Despite his doubts, he followed the old man down to the water's edge, looking at him in confusion when he sat motionless, watching the waves come in and out from the deeper ocean.
"I...I don't get it. Look, if you just wanted to see some water, we could have-"
"Look." He spoke quietly, shushing him with one small claw, before pointing at the water elegantly, "Down there."
So, he looked, peering over into the water that was loosely lit by the moon. He sighed a bit when he only saw his own mug staring back. "That's not my Father, that's just my reflection...and it's not helping."
"No." Coeus spoke, touching the top of the water with a claw, "Look harder, boy..."
The ripples shook the water in spurs, and Gojira was beginning to be sold that this Old Timer was out of his gourd, but to humor him, he looked into the ripples anyway. The moon began to shift his image around in the light, swirling and distorting his reflection in a number of ways, until the water slowly turned placid, then...
He...could see it. It was faint, but it was definitely there. Those dorsal plates, that figure, those eyes...that was his Father, right in front of him in the water, his image appearing over his own reflection.
"He lives in you."
Then suddenly, it was as if a hurricane formed in a matter of minutes, and a blinding crack of harsh thunder made Gojira look up into the sky. It was the strongest storm he had ever seen whipping up across the ocean before him. Lightning flashed, causing the ripples of the water to shimmer brightly with the reflection of electricity. However, through all of the rough winds, crashing waves, and heavy thunder, he could hear a voice call out, a voice that broke through all of the noise...a voice that caused those dark clouds to suddenly split in two:
"Gojira."
He froze. That voice...he knew it anywhere.
Another bolt flashed across the sky, this time loosely taking the shape of Dagon among the dark clouds.
"Gojira, you have forgotten me."
"N-no, Dad...how could I...?"
"You have forgotten who you are, and so, you have forgotten me. You are the one true Alpha. You are much more than what you have become."
"But, I can't..." He looked down in shame. Even as a spirit, he could feel his Father's gaze staring down at him. "I...don't know how to be like you. I don't even know who I am anymore..."
"You are my son. My bloodline. The next great Alpha of the Ecosystem. Remember who you are."
With a loud strike of lightning on a nearby mountain, Dagon's image began to fade into the clouds. With a gasp, Gojira despirately dove into the ocean, trying his best to swim after the fading winds. "W-wait! Father!"
"Remember."
"I...I need you...!" He couldn't catch the image in time, and once the water was up to Gojira's gills, Dagon was gone, the starry night returning to calmness once more. The whole ordeal was haunting for him, he could only stare up into the moonlight in silence...
Of course, that stillness was broken by the hearty laughter of Coeus from the shore.
"That Dagon, heh! Always one for spectacle!"
Gojira swam back to the shore. As he shook the saltwater off of himself, he closed his eyes, took a deep breath, and looked the Old Titan in the eyes. "I know what I have to do now...but, going back to the Valley means I have to face my past."
"Really now? Ya don't say? Heheheh! You're quite the sharp one!" The Mammoth-like Monster hooted, sitting on his hind legs and idly holding a branch. "You got a lot of mouths tellin' you how to face your past, but, the way I see it, you gotta learn from it yourself. Write the next chapter of your story!"
Suddenly, the water level started to noticeably rise up to their feet. Strange...the water levels have never been like this before around here, not since Gojira's been here, at least. Come to think of it, the air felt a lot warmer than usual too. Gojira sniffed the air, but it made him withdraw back...he recognized that smell from when he was a child...it smelled like the radiation hollows.
"...Uh-oooooooh..." The Old Titan said, sniffing the air as well, "That doesn't seem healthy...not one bit."
"Something's wrong..." Gojira said shakily, before gasping. Mothra was right! Something obviously wasn't right back in the Valley. "I have to go back right away! I gotta do something!"
"You'd better get over there now! Before it's too late!" Coeus hooted, watching as the massive Titan started to turn in the other direction and trot at full speed. He sat down on his knuckles once Goji was out of view, simply chuckling when he heard him let out a loud and triumphant roar in the distance.
"Just like his Father, that boy is..."
