Chapter 10 (Timeline 2): Do you trust me?

"You alright?" Dawn panted when they could run no longer.

"Apart from the infected shoulder and pulverised face - great," he winced.

They had been darting through the jungle for what felt like several hours when suddenly they emerged at a clearing with a small stream running through it. Dawn immediately fell to her knees and shovelled handfuls of water into her parched mouth.

"Aren't you thirsty?" she panted.

"I'll wait."

Dawn didn't comment but was taken aback by his reply. Wait for what?

"Why did they do that to you?" Dawn nodded to Henry's bruised face.

"They thought I was lying."

"They thought you were one of the others didn't they?"

"Yes Dawn, they did."

"And are you?" she asked, somewhat hesitantly.

Something shifted in his features making Dawn's blood suddenly run cold. Before he could answer, an eerie high-pitched wail came the jungle behind them.

"We need to move." Henry said firmly.

"But…"

"Now!"

He pulled her onto her feet, not ungently.

"Do you trust me?"

Dawn held his gaze, trying to determine what she saw there.

"I think so."

"Good enough," he nodded. "Follow me."

She did as she was told.
