Chapter 8

He had to hurry. The place was coming down around him as he ran.

He felt the muscles in his legs burn as he pushed them to the limit. Multiple times he had to right himself as the explosions around him shook the giant underground complex.

He pushed further.

He ran down what once was a pure white hall, now painted with splashes of red .

The sounds of groans and monsterous roars echoed down the hall he ran. Soon the sounds of gunfire would too if he did not hurry.

He kept running as fast as he could, even as his lungs burned and leg muscles protested.

An explosion rocked the hall in front of him, caving it in. The sound of roars blared out from behind him. He didn't have enough bullets. Not for all of them.

He quickly looked around for anything that could help him.

Multiple doors lined the walls on both sides. Most were offences with some labs here and there but one caught his attention.

"TRANSDIMENSIONAL EXPERIMENTATION LABS"

Quickly, he ran inside and looked around and marveled at what was inside.

A giant metallic frame stood tall. Its tall circular frame glistened as the emergency lights flared and bounced off its stainless steel body.

A small blue computer hung off the base of one of the arcs. Within it multiple, words could be seen reading Re-

He rolled to the side as a skinless monstrosity jumped towards him and swiped at him with long bony claws.

Getting in stance, he brought out his shotgun and aimed down sights at the monstrosity, who now stood on the lit computer.

Sparks flew as the inner workings of the computer flew out and littered the floor as Shotgun rounds flew out and impacted the monstrosity, piercing its body then continuing forth. Letting out a final scream, the monster crashed into the ground in a dead heap of bone and gooey muscle.

Blessed with a moment of respite, he was caught off guard as a sudden blue light flared up between the arcs of the machine. A swirling vortex of blue energy had appeared from the giant machine but before he could wonder what it was, it began to pull him in.

He stepped back as the air began to pull at him towards it. He turned around and began to run but that became futile as the machine proved too strong..and pulled him off his feet.

The last thing he saw before he was taken by darkness was the blue energy overtaking him.

"You want us to what!?"

"Please it's just for today, both Jessica, Neo and I will be out of town for today and we can't take her with us. Children aren't allowed in medical rooms and Jessica is taking Neo to do bounties and I don't want her going anywhere near grim infested forests."

"And what makes her safer with us? If you haven't noticed we are getting ready to go on an escort mission in an hour. How do you know she wont get hurt?"

The doctors simple response was to point at X.

"Fair point but it could still be dangerous!"

"I know but i have no doubt that you two can keep her safe. You are just going to be escorting a dust shipment right? What could go wrong? "

Adam looked at X for a moment, who in turn looked at him. It wasn't just an escort mission. It was more than that actually. In truth it was a raid mission on a large dust convoy that was headed to the kingdom of Vale that one of the scouts had found out about.

"She could stay on the Bullhead" X suggested, his robotic voice coming from his voice box. Adam sighed as he slouched and nodded.

"Fine..fine..but she will be riding with us through. Your bullhead is the closest to grimm proof so she should be safe there..just in case."

"Magnificent," the doctor said. "I'll tell Emily the news." with that the doctor quickly turned around and disappeared into the hallway.

"You are gonna have to hold back. You know that right? Last thing I want is for Emily to be scarred for life, '' Adam said as he looked up at X.

Before long all three were passengers on X's modified bull head. The pilot, after openly voicing his concerns on taking a small child into a field mission, begrudgingly accepted to fly them in.

"What's this then?" Emilly asked as she pointed towards the many things that caught her eye.

"That's a parachute. It's used to slow down a fall from a really high place….though i don't think it would serve X any good. He would need at least 10 to slow him down" Adam said, a smirk on his face.

Yes, he just fat shamed X

Emily burst out laughing as she pictured X slowly falling with multiple tiny parachutes above him.

X grunted as he crossed his arms and looked away. It wasn't his fault he weighed close to two tons. It's the jacket..X swore it made him heavier.

"We're closing in on our destination. Get ready, t-" warnings and alarms flashed on the bullheads controls, cutting the pilot off.

" MISSILE INCOMING , HOLD ON!" The Pilot warned as he swerved the bullhead the best he could to avoid the missile curining towards them at terrifying speeds. Adam kept a tight hold on Emily as X in turn covered both of them with his bulk as an uncomfortable unknown feeling took over him.

A thunderous boom shook the bullhead, making it spiral out of control and into violent descent. X sees smoke cover the left window as what remains of the back jet engines goes up in flames. He also notices the ground rapidly approaching to meet them.

X growled as he began to stir, shaking his head to clear the fog that clouded his mine. His head turned towards the other passengers as he remembered the events prior to the crash. Below him he held both Adam and Emily in a tight embrace, protecting them from the shrapnel that had flown around them. He slowly got up with both Emily and Adam on his arms and kicked open the side door, making it fly off its steel hinges. He walked towards the front of the bullhead and tore off the front door, grabbing the pilot and pulling him out as well.

Finally he looked around and saw they were in the middle of a forest. The broken trees marking their landing. Before he could take any more of the scenery in the sound of multiple footsteps met his ear.

Quickly and silently(as best he could anyways) he, alongside the pilot,Adam and Emily in his arms, hurried into a nearby churbury . although he would most likely be able to deal with them on his own, he would have to find a place to hide the three first before anything..

A group of 10 came out of the surrounding trees and walked towards the crashed bullhead.

"Well boys, it looks like we're getting paid tonight ." A man with a blond buzzcut and body full of muscle said as he walked forward and put his foot on the destroid jet engine of the bullhead.

"Um..boss..we got a problem." one of the ten said as he searched the inside of the crash air vehicle.

"There's always a problem with you Coal, what is it now?"

"The passengers we were hired to kill…. they aint here."

Silence took over the air as the now known boss processed the information his lackey had given him.

"WELL WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WAITING FOR!! SPREAD OUT AND LOOK FOR THEM!!"

Almost Immediately the large group spread out into the forest in search of their bounty.

X looked up. Night was sitting in and rain was due.

He had to find a safe place to hide them for now. Then he would get to work.

As the group spread out through the forest in search of their target, night settled in alongside a small drizzle that was slowly gaining strength. The dark clouds overhead blanketed the night sky leaving the area in a hunting darkness with only the little ethereal light the moon could give in between the cracks in the clouds.

A group of Three walked together, flashlights on and aimed at whatever they saw move. As they marched there the forest canopy they swept the area around them checking for any and all forms of movement.

The sound of rustling leaves quickly gained their attention as they spun around and aimed their lights towards the source;A bush that had planted itself in front of an enormous tree shuddering violently from side to side.

Two of the three pushed one of their teammates forward, in hopes of drawing out what lay within.

Grumbling lowly, the unfortunate thug slowly made his way forwards and poked at the large bush.

In an act of impressive speed, a mass of black and white launched from the bush and straight for the man who had been unlucky enough to walk towards it. A shrill scream ran out as the now seeable beowulf opened its maw, ready to clamp down on the man's throat. Unfortunately for the grimm or fortunately for the man, bullets flew out from the barrels of his teammates and impacted on its black hide, piercing its body and killing it. It's now withering body crashing with a heavy thud.

The two that had gunned down the beast howled in laughter as they caught sight of their fallen comrade who had fallen to the ground in a frightened mess. A man who now had need for a new pair of pants.

Their joy ended abruptly when heavy thuds that shook the earth became very noticeable. In a panic they looked around in a frightened search for the source only to see multiple shadows dance around them . A sudden burst of fire echoed in the forest as one of the goons opened fire on a black shape that he Swore moved.

After a few seconds he stopped firing and slowly walked forward to inspect the large figure, moving further from the other two who looked at him.

Once close enough, he brought up his flashlight and shined it on the shadow figure and felt his pride take a hit as he saw what it was.. A simple tree with branches that swayed with the wind.

He turned around with a scowl on his face and looked at his two comrades as lighting and thunder made their presence clear. And in that small moment of illumination he paled as his very heart stopped in fear.

Behind his two friends stood a monster in the shape of a man, taller than any he had seen, His soulless eyes glowed with an ethereal white that seemed to stare at his very soul, his body almost non seeable with its onyx black color clothes it wore. The only reason he was able to spot his body was the movement of its which got higher and higher untel-

With sickening squelches and cracks the once whole body that stood beside his friend exploded into meaty chunks as the giant's arm came down with more speed than his body should allow.

All that was left was a morbid peace of art of blood and bone.

Before the man next to the now dead meat stump could comprehend what was happening a hand enclosed his head and lifted him up. Too late he understood what happened, too late he waited and did nothing as he stared at his friend ahead of him.

Too late to do anything as his world went dark.

"Did you hear that?"

"Hear what?"

"I thought i heard something."

"Thank you for that informative answer. Just ignore it, probably just you."

The merc says as he and his buddy walk around casually, every so often bringing their lights up.

As they walk they enter into a small clearing and look around for anything that would indicate the direction of where the targets went.

Before they could clear the place of any suspicion, quick footsteps caught their attention as they came from somewhere around them. Bringing up their light they look around until they see one of their members running like the devil himself was after him.

Soon the running member notices his comrades and relief washes over him. He starts screaming and swinging his arms around trying his best to warn them.

Before he can reach the clearing however he trips on an unseen object and lands on his stomach. Confused by the blooded running member the two quickly run towards him only to stop when something seems to get hold of him.

Looking up the fallen member looks at his two comrades and reaches out to them.

"Help.me"

Screams echo into the night as the man is dragged into the dark of the forest and as quick as they started, stop.

Quickly the two men run forwards in hopes of saving their partner. They pump their feet as fast and hard as they can as they search for their friend only for one of the two to trip on something large and squishy on the ground. The other one stops and turns around, on his way to help his friend when he stops mid step and pales as he sees what he tripped over in the first place.

Catching the look of terror in his teammates face, the fallen man slowly looks behind him and quickly scattles back when he sees the member who they were trying to save.

At least whays left of him as only the lower part of the body is present. Guts and blood pooling out of what's left of the lower stomach.

Getting up as quick as he can and grabbing his weapon the man stands back to back to his partner as they slowly rotate and quickly open fire when the sound of disterbed shrubbery sounds closed by.

To their horror they find the other part of their member now riddled with bullets. He's cold lifeless eyes stare at them as it lays sprawled on the dirt floor.

Paralized and left dazed by fear the sound of heavy footsteps escape them until its sound as if next to them.

Looking up both mercs aim down sights towards the way the footsteps came from and paled considerably at what they saw coming their way. A giant of a man wearing a trenchcoat and fedora slowly made his way towards them. Its pale and rubber like face showed no emotion as it neared.

Shaking out of his dazed state one of the two began firing at the behemoth that walked towards them only to panic as he's bullets simply bounced off his chest and arm which the monster had lifted to cover his head.

The second man, awakened from his petrified state via his friend's bullet shots, quickly aimed down his double barrel shutgun's sight and fired. An eruption of smoke and dust filled the air obscuring the giant enemy.

Both men stayed still as they waited to see the results. The fellow's weapon was not to be trifled with. Able to penetrate the thickets of grimm armor with a single buckshot explosive round it was feared among the group as a single misfire could potentially kill a person. Aura or no. Not even the owner of the weapon was safe as its recoil would leave a good bruise the next day. He would feel the effect of the gun by next sunrise.

Or he would if not for the insanely fast figure that busted through the smoke and charged straight towards him. Before the poor man could even figure out what was happening he was already airborne.

Atleast parts of him were anyways. The large figure, having charged him, had swiped at him with a giant arm thus sending his body parts flying as it ripped through his aura and body like tissue paper with sickng sounds of squelches and cracks.

The first man ,being lucky enough to have been able to jump away ,looked back in pure terror as the monster turned around and showed no signs of damage except for the burnt flesh of his face that was healing at terrifying speeds.

As he landed he looked down as resistance met one of his legs. A black crumbled fedora under his right foot.

Cold sweat poured down his body as the air seemed to drop multiple degrees in seconds. Not even bothering to look back at the black dressed monster he turned and ran. He ran as he felt the ground under Him shake. He ran as he felt his legs burn with panic. He ran as he felt and saw the shadow that slowly enveloped him. He ran as he saw the shadow's arm go sideways preparing its killing strike.

And as quick as he began. He stopped. Not by the hand that was seconds away from him, Not by the fear that rattled his body But by cannon ball sized projectile that pierced his chest and hit the monster behind him.

X slid back five feet as something robbed him of his breath for a moment when it collided with his chest.

His trench coat undamaged, he looked down to the bowling ball sized bullet responsible for his stolen air. It's stainless steel surfaces of the night sky as well as the land around them which ,much to X's surprise, was the crash site.

"Well looky here boys, I found myself a big ol dumbass walking around. Tell me dumbass, are you the one we're looking for?"

The buzzcut man, who was standing on the top of the Bullhead wreckage, looked at his scroll then back at him, comparing a photo of X's face and the one In front of him.

"You uh….you got a light to bright up your face…its kinda dark right now...no?...scroll light?...glow st-.ah fuck it, your close enough...I think. Anyways, BOYS!"

Around X the remaining bandits who had entered the forest came out, each holding their own customized weapon, until all the remaining seven bandits came out from the tree line.

Cackling like hyenas, each one aimed their weapons at him. Buzzcut, who's weapons appeared to have been the cannon-like gun that had killed the man, folded up and turned into two oversized gauntlets with ball-like knuckles. X's hypothesis became more concrete seeing one of the knuckles missing.

"Now boys, show him the-"

KATA

A large caliber (atleast to Remnant) ricashaded off of X's sleeve as he covered his face.

Turning towards the one responsible, everyone stared at the one responsible; a man clad in green with a heavy revolver. He laughed embarrassingly as he looked around.

"Ohm damn it Jeshile, you're supposed to wait after the speech to fire. We've been over this like what? Five times?

Now boys s-ah forget it the moods ruined. Just fire."

As one, the group around him rushed forwards and began to either slash him or pelted him with arms fire.

Thinking quickly, X reached into his pouch and grabbed a small cylinder and pulled it.

A bright light erupted from the cylinder as X launched it towards the group, blinding everyone but X.

He remembered being constantly flashed by these damn things in the past. He smirked to himself remembering the surprise of the troublesome cop when X first threw one at him. Good memories.

Taking advantage of the blinded thugs, X rushed forward and body slammed into the closest person. A sicking crack erupted from the poor man as his aura gave out quickly .

Caught off guard, the bandits tried their best to rub the blindness from their eyes, the less than lucky ones being met by X before anything.

The number of bandits diminishing, X looked around for Buzzcut only to see him gone from on top of the wreckage. Before he could wonder where he was , X side stepped as a ball of ice flew past him.

Forced back into the fight X grabbed a large boulder from nearby and launched it back at the ice throwing bandit who, in a panic to dodge, ran into his team mate and resulted in the death of two.

Looking down at the remaining bandits, X smirked as he saw fear in his enemy's eyes.

Taking a lumbering step forwards, X moved with small amounts of swagger as he closed in on his soon to be victims.

"Hold it big guy. Or this, here, lass gets it."

Looking from where the voice came from, X felt his blood turn to ice as he processed the scene before him.

Emily, still unconscious, was held at cannon point as she laid on the ground.

(I don't own rwby or resident evil)
