The next night Mandy was eagerly waiting for John's call. The phone lit up.
"Hello?" She said.
"Hi baby." John said.
"Hi."
"Mandy, I've been trying to figure out a way to tell you something."
"You're not backing out the wedding are you?" She said jokingly.
"No." "I went to go see your parents yesterday."
"Oh my god, are you ok?" She asked imagining what they said to him.
"Yeah."
"What did they do?"
"Well, they tried to bribe me to leave you."
"They did what?!" She said in disbelief.
"Yeah." "Your dad asked me how much it would take." "I said there was no amount of money."
"This is a new low, even for them."
"I'm sorry."
"For what?"
"I was hoping it would go differently." "I know you wanted them there."
"I did, not now." "If they're gonna be like that I don't need them in my life."
"I'd hoped that once they met me we could find some common ground."
"Well don't blame yourself, it's not you, it's them."
"I just wanted our wedding day to be perfect for you."
"It will be, I'm marrying you." "I appreciate you trying." "I tried to warn you."
"I know." "I should've listened."
"We don't need them." "We can be our own family."
"That sounds nice."
"Yeah."
"I wish you were here." "I want to hug you."
"You'll get to soon."
Mandy and John's wedding was tomorrow. Mandy was in Jennifer's room.
Did you ever think you'd be getting married again? Jennifer signed.
Not in a million years after the last time. Mandy signed. I can't wait. I'm so excited. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.
The next day Mandy and John were to be married on a cliff top overlooking the ocean. The ocean was a beautiful crystal blue. John's parents, Jennifer, the priest and a sign language interpreter were there. John was dressed in nice clothes. Mandy was in a white summer dress with a matching headband made from flowers. At the alter Mandy wanted to keep her eyes on John but had to keep her eyes on the priest to understand what was happening. They exchanged rings.
"John, do you take this woman to be your wife?" The priest asked.
"I do." He said looking at her lovingly.
"Mandy, do you take this man to be your husband?"
"I do." She said smiling.
"By the power invested in me, by the state of Florida, I now pronounce you man and wife." "You may now kiss the bride." They kissed.
After the ceremony Mandy and John boarded a yacht that would be taking them around the ocean. They were at the front of the yacht enjoying the view. John was standing behind her with his arms around her waist. He turned her around to face him.
I know that we've talked about this before and you said it was to much money. He signed. Do you still want the cochlear implant?
Yes. She signed.
Well it's not just my money anymore, it's our money. I think you should do it.
Let me think about it. They kissed.
