Day 25 - From mrspencil: together at Christmas

Being so occupied with the case, Holmes and I barely noticed it was Christmas until Mrs Hudson brought attention to the matter the night before.

"Merry Christmas Eve," she said, serving us spiced tea, and a small plate of ginger and cinnamon biscuits.

"Tomorrow is Christmas, Holmes," I stated, after our kind land lady had left.

"Indeed, Watson," Holmes remarked, giving me a tired but amused smile.

"But, we haven't even had any time to plan things, how to spend the day, or have people over." My mind raced as I compared this time of year to all previous ones, all the parties and families and gatherings. But it likely was too late now to plan anything extravagant. "We'll just spend the day at home then," I said after a while, leaning back into my comfortable armchair.

"Yes," Holmes agreed. "We'll have a small meal with Mrs Hudson and her dog, then we can spend the rest of the day working on the case."

My face fell, and I couldn't help but feel we were missing out, even as important as the case had been.

"Nothing is better than a Christmas spent with loved ones," Holmes remarked, noticing my expression.

He was right. We really did have all we needed just being home together with Mrs Hudson, Miracle, and the bees.
