-Back in reality-
"Eggy (eegy), SNAP OUT OF IT! Ray shook him by the shoulders which did nothing, then readied his hand back for a slap.
"Ray." Egon groaned, coming out of his delirium.
Your eyes watered with relief that he was even conscious enough to speak. Ray lowered his hand and gave a sigh, Winston came up with the EMT's and once again they did a vital check on Egon. They asked him questions to make sure he was still mentally cognitive, and you just hugged your arms feeling more guilty than ever...especially since the last time.
Your cellphone started to ring, walking into the bedroom to take it so you could hear better.
"Hello?" You said into the device, sitting down on your bed.
"Honey, it's me, your mother...I was just calling to see how things were going? Since your apartment getting ransacked and all, have you got back in yet?" Your mom piped from the other end.
Your expression changed to a slight defeated look, "No, um mom look I've been staying with the Ghostbusters at their headquarters...they still haven't found anything."
"You really should go back to your apartment sweetie, you've got that college acceptance letter and that means you're going to be starting soon when they get your files all situated." She sounded motherishly worried but there was a hint of something, like there was something she wanted to tell you but couldn't bring herself to say.
"They offered me a job too, I can work while going to school for some spending money." You defended.
She sighed dejectedly, "Oh, well I guess if you think you can manage it...How did you plan on transportation from there to the school?" She asked.
"Ray, the boyish one you met at my apartment offered me occasional rides or I can also use the taxi system...it hasn't failed me yet, mom." You tried to chuckle to lift the mood in the air, which was heavy for some reason.
"That's nice of him...so what have you been up to since staying there? Anything fun or just lounging about while they work hard?" She asked with a frost in her voice that made you shiver.
"It's not like that mom, they have plenty of spare beds here...I actually stay in the same room as they do, my bed is hidden behind the door to the sleeping quarters." You explained.
"As your mom I'd say that's not a good idea, but since you are an adult who can take care of herself I can't say much. Other than that none of them seem like the types who can even land a girlfriend so, you might actually be fine either way." You mother hissed through the phone.
"Um mom...Winston, the black guy has a wife...Peter, who wasn't there has a," You weren't sure what to consider him and Dana other than a work-in-progress-pair, "Girlfriend who has a son from a previous relationship of hers...and Ray being the boss doesn't have much time for anyone…" You paused.
You definitely weren't sure how to describe you and Egon, going to a party together by invitation wasn't quite a title you even could use especially since your mom was kinda judgy when it came to any boys or men you dealt with growing up...having spent a year in an all girls school for 11 grade due to the boys in 10th grade acting odd around you, but the counselor chocked it up to hormones being high in the high school boys that year.
"What about the tall, lanky, one with the glasses? He definitely seems like the distant-to-girls type?" She spoke which snapped you out of your recounting of 10th to 11th grade.
"That's Egon Spengler, he's kinda like a computer mom...he can't really communicate with anyone who doesn't understand his own little language…" You chuckled softly at how you described him, which made you realize something...You understood his little language.
Your mouth dropped and your hand went to cover it in shock, even Ray had said Egon was hard to get along with and he's his friend. What did this mean, did...did you really like him? Could this 'date' at the halloween party be some kind of attempt to get Egon with someone… Your thoughts raced and you quickly told your mom you loved her and that you'd call her back in a bit.
"Wait, I had one more thing to tell you…" *Click* You closed the flip phone and ended the call so abruptly that you didn't hear anything else.
Silence.
Just Silence.
Ray, Egon, Winston...were nowhere in your thoughts. Your head started running on overdrive at what was being processed, 'Was Ray trying to hook us up? But...I mean Egon's not that bad a guy, and I do get along with him...OH MY GOSH! What should I do...I mean I'm still gonna go to the party, but should I really try to make it more "datey"...' Thoughts shot back and forth as your eyes drifted side to side.
'What if...What if I like him more by then? What if...no, no way...I can't believe I never thought about that...What if… I love him?" Your thoughts continued as a darkness coated your vision and you drifted into a mentally tired sleep. A city street with grey buildings, and a shadow at the end of the road… Here's where things are going to get more and more interesting.
