ELG The Series 10
Here it is readers part 10 of this bizarre story. A series of small earthquakes rocks the city and near the city center a crevasse filled with bizarre crystals appears. More burst from around the site but what could possibly be the cause? Is it a new mutation? Or an act of nature reacting to humankind's mistreatment of it? Rating is like before.
-chapter 10 - Crystalline Terror
-Inn
It was early morning at the inn as the likes of Lucy Tatopoulos snored very loudly when suddenly something all too common hit the building. An earthquake. It woke her up almost in seconds as she dove for the strongest part of her room, the door frame.
The quake lasted about 10 seconds but wasn't very strong. Breathing a sigh of sweet relief Lucy flopped back on her bed. ''And to think I missed my old place of birth... " Lucy grumbled getting herself back together after the small quake finished.
''Lucy! Luce! You ok?!" Kouta called out running into her room.
It wasn't necessary but still she appreciated her male house mate's concern. ''I'm fine... but thanks for worrying though." Her cute house mate that is. That was something she'd never say out loud though. So where'd that thought come from? She didn't really think she was his type. Besides the rosette figured he'd plenty of girls pinning for him at college.

After finding out on the news the mild quakes had clustered themselves deep under the bedrock near the center of Tokyo the university cancelled all classes for the day in case of more quakes. The regular schools were also closed down as a temporary caution. Figuring that was the case Kouta took the rosy haired girl to a small cafe nearby his college, a Greek based place called "Great Pantheon". Go figure. A few of the tables were outside with parasols to provide shade from the sun's heat.
As the two got seated the talk between them turned to music. ''As I said a few of my favorite bands include a lot of different artists not just from Japan but also foreign bands too. Like Bon Jovi.'' Kouta said telling his musical tastes.
In fact this was the first thing Kouta tried to do so Lucy would open up to him. She really didn't say much about her childhood except when Nick adopted her. She was hiding something but Kouta decided not to pry. ''Jovi. He's really good. I got plenty CD's of him. I like Anthem too. Ahh the good old days of 80's stadium music. What happened to it? It was great.'' Lucy said reminiscing about the bygone 80's era of music.
However one aspect of Lucy's musical tastes had him doing mental back flips. He asked. ''How come you like Madonna?''
''Because Nick and Audrey introduced me to it of course." She said with a sly wink.
''Yeah that was a fun one.'' She heard a voice making her blood run cold.
''Almost as fun as that bag you set on fire and the guy stomped it out!'' The next familiar voice joked.
''And he realized what it was. Poo!'' The third and final voice joked.
''Wait, I know those voices... " Lucy said recognizing the voices who made her early childhood a living nightmare back at the orphanage.
Spinning around on her seat the rosette glared at her old childhood enemies Tomoo, Azukio, and Tasuma. Her usually stern face turned into a very foul looking scowl. If they thought she was the same girl back when she was a kid well they were in for a surprise. "Well, well, well, if it ain't the three dingledorks who made my youth a nightmare. What's the matter you all just get off a prison bus?"
The three saw their old bullying toy had apparently gotten a wicked tongue as she got older. That and a biting wit able to give great comebacks. Though she gained nerdy looking glasses. She wasn't just a freak but a four-eyed freak. "Hey there ox-head haven't seen you around in a long time. Where ya been?'' Azukio said his voice dripping with nasty sarcasm.
Her eyebrow twitched as her fists balled up, now Lucy was mad. The punks pushed her too hard, fists were gonna be flying. Before Kouta could even say anything in the pink haired girl's defense the rosette immediately introduced the three of them to him. ''Kouta allow me the displeasure of introducing Tomoo, Azukio, and Tasuma. They're old acquaintances of mine I wanna never see again."
''Hey there where's yer American sugar daddy at?'' A very snarky Tasuma asked. He pulled up a chair and put up his feet on the table showing that even after all these years he still hadn't learned any manners.
Annoyed at how much of a jerk Tasuma was acting Kouta then countered the trio's idea that Lucy only went with Dr. Nick for money digging. ''Hey moron Nick isn't her sugar daddy! He's just her adoptive father!"
Waving her hand at Kouta which meant to let her handle this herself. ''I said I'll handle this Kouta please. See, see, see I know what you jerks are doing and I don't like it. I came back home for one reason to stop rampaging mutations but now I got a new one. Kickin' your skinny asses." Lucy said angrily pointing her finger at the triad of young men.
''Yeah I'd like to see you try." Ever the sleazebag Azukio added unimpressed by Lucy's threat. He even let out a yawn of boredom.
The mean spirited Tomoo knew Lucy never fought back whenever they teamed up on her. She was a weak little freak and she looked like a fragile wuss even to this day. Gazing at a nearby table Lucy swiped a bottled soda and shattered on the hardwood table and shoved the broken and sharp glass right in Azukio's shock filled face. ''Let's go for it then! He did a better job raising me than you animals were!''
''Hey, hey, hey now hold it freak I don't think you should put out an attack on our character!" Tomoo said trying not to act scared of just how scary the pink haired girl looked just now.
Her eyebrow twitched in a fit of suppressed rage. Scoffing at the idea these three jerks even had character to begin with, as if. "Character? This jerk in front of me is talkin' about character? I'm from New York man, I'm taking my glasses off that's step one." Lucy took off her glasses then grabbed her tormentor by his collar and got right in his face. Her scarlet eyes full of seething rage. "Now step two. I killed a girl when I got thrown in juvie lockup, in fact she got all up in my grill so I grabbed a ink pen and shoved it up her nose clear up into her brain!''
The look on Tomoo's face was that of a scared rabbit. Based on how her mean and aggressive she was acting now the former bully didn't want to push his luck. Those creepy red eyes of hers were pure nightmare fuel. The death glare she gave that is.
Being stupid however and apparently not following the cues of his buddies Tasuma threw a few insult Lucy's way. "Well didn't that fake daddy teach you manners! You can't threaten us like this ya witch!''
That dialogue broke what little patience the rosette had left with the three. She slammed Tasuma right into the restaurant wall. "Hey! Shut up! Who you think you're talkin to?! The old Lucy? Lemme tell you buddy boy, if you ever talk to me like that again, I'll kill you. And I don't mean it as a euphemism, I'm gonna literally kill you. I'm gonna strangle you and cut off your air supply until you pass away. Got me?!"
"Yes ma'am.'' Tasuma squeaked out terrified.
"Now if I ever see the likes you three free loading parasites anywhere near me or my dog I'll hunt you down for eternity! Understand!? UNDERSTAND!?'' She shrieked as the trio tore out of the scene like the hounds of Hades were on their heels.
After seeing her old enemies finally vanish around the street corner she settled back into her chair. Nearby customers were utterly confused by the girl's raging outburst. ''Ok now Kouta you were saying about your favorite bands?" Lucy said continuing from where she was interrupted.
''Luce just what was that about? I've never seen you fly off the handle like that before.'' Kouta said clearly disturbed by what he just saw the normally calm, collected and intelligent Lucy Tatopoulos fly off the handle like a psychopathic escapee. Plus the way she was talking so calmly and civil right after the fiasco was finished was even stranger.
''Anger management at work." She retorted smiling.
Puzzled by her cryptic answer Kouta was going to push for explanations but for now he thought better of it. ''Uh yeah. Anyways some of my favs are Anthem, Two-Mix, Romantic Mode, and well way too many to list right now. But Kanae my sister she's got CD's out the... What in the... !''
A sudden new tremor cut him off right then and there. The two dove under the cafe table, knowing more destruction was coming. ''Oh, not again... '' Lucy groaned out.
The quake intensified as shingles fell off the cafe roof as cracks tore through the street, car alarms wailed, dogs barked up a storm, and shards of glass fell littering the ground. The tremors continued as cracks damaged several building foundations with large concrete chunks breaking off, like crumbling mountains.
''I bet you didn't miss this?!'' Kouta half shouted.
''Never in a million years!'' Lucy answered. Still the tremors continued but strangely with ear close to the ground Lucy felt them moving upwards through the bedrock, which was puzzling to say the least. Earthquakes didn't work that way. "Kouta... Don't think I'm crazy but I think the seismic waves are migrating up through the bedrock.''
''Really? I think that... HEY! WATCH OUT!" He started to say but hollered as a huge fissure began tearing through the city blocks ahead of them.
The large buildings teetered and shook as huge cracks were tearing the very streets themselves apart, people fled the structures in mass panic as the ground gave out collapsing from underneath them. These large sinkholes clustered around a giant central chasm. ''Whoa... What in the world could do all this?'' A bystander asked aloud.
The very street was ripping itself apart as huge cracks turned into deep crevasses, and more bizarrely a faint purple glow was coming from deep underground. The glow increased as huge crystals of amethyst forced themselves up through the many holes and giant fractures in the streets. The crystals were enormous! At least five to ten stories tall! Just where'd they come from? What could generate crystals that enormous? Well only one team had the know how to figure it out. And that was Humanitarian Environmental Analysis Team better known as HEAT.
''I'm calling Nick. Get to the bottom of this.'' Lucy said calling Nick on her cell phone.
Carefully treading close to the crevasse' edge taking a look at how deep the large chasm went Kouta gulped. ''And this unfortunate thing here is not the bottom?''

With the gaping chasm in the city filled with giant glowing amethyst crystals news helicopters flew around updating the situation as it developed. The military had blocked the area off as well like always. A combat chopper shot one sending shards everywhere. Rolling along NIGEL collected several for Dr. Craven, for a more complete analysis of its physical properties.
Placing the shard samples on a microscope slide NIGEL wheeled said slide to its creator. ''Issuing physical sample from retrieval operations. Now I'm the happiest gal in the whole wide world cuz of this here diamond ring teehee!'' The robot said in a very girly voice with a matching giggle.
Facepalming Dr. Craven knew exactly what happened, Randy tinkered with his robot again. What else was new? ''Randy... Ooh one of these days. One of these days..." Craven grumbled studying the sample.
Focusing the microscope's lens he examined the sample more closely. Puzzled he scratched his head unsure if his equipment was flawed. He typed a few things on his laptop then wrote a few notes on paper. The rest of his team happened to see his confusion, it usually didn't happen to him that often. "What's the problemo doc?'' Randy asked him.
''Found any information on our crystal issues? How are they connected to the earthquakes?'' Nick also asked taking a seat.
''Yeah what kind of birthstone disaster we dealing with here?'' Elsie joked also taking a seat next to him.
Looking up from his notes Craven wasn't sure how to explain his findings. Scratching his beard he wasn't sure how to explain things. ''Well, then everyone, you're going to really hate this. I don't quite understand it myself but the large crystalline structures are chemically identical to quartz. In this case amethyst. But why are they following the earthquakes? And generating them? That I haven't figured out yet. Sorry.''
''For once it is something he is not allergic to.'' Monique deadpanned before giving him a quick playful smirk. ''You did what you could with limited information Craven feel no shame in that.'' Monique reassured him, stunning everyone.
But you ask why was it shocking? It wasn't something she did all that often. The cheerful mood however vanished as another huge tremor, the biggest yet shook the area. A low guttural roar emanated from the deep hole, as a large reptilian clawed hand burst from the deep depths. Hauling its massive bulk up was the ugliest face a monster could ever be cursed with.
Then the rest of its body revealed itself, though it's posture was reminiscent of a cat, the overall appearance was a giant reptile and most likely originating from a primitive therapsid (a extinct mammal-like reptile). The monster also had purple crystals acting as chin hair, making it look like a beard, the head, and the back, as well as for claws, on the underside and belly, and the very tip of the tail, having deathly whitish skin wherever the crystals weren't growing from.
The oversized gemstone monster let out a loud roar, and went straight to tearing apart the nearest surviving high rise. Its sharp crystal claws tore through it sending debris in every direction. Then it went to work on another, wanting to tear it apart. But before it could suddenly Godzilla revealed himself! He roared back at the oversized crystal monster.
He grabbed a big chunk of concrete near him and heaved it right at the opposing beast's ugly face. The hefty blow was so loud nearby windows shattered from the shock. The opposing monster roared out in defiance and retaliation, both monsters circled around around the chasm then it charged at Godzilla.
Both the Big-G and its enemy slammed their claws, both struggling to overpower the other in their back and forth grapple. Frustrated at his fight going so even Godzilla unleashed his Atomic Breath on this monster jerk. Pointblank in its face no less!
''Sick 'em G-Man! Smash 'im into a million pieces!'' Randy cheering the King of Monsters on.
Once the dust settled, the enemy monster was barely even singed. The Atomic Breath had no effect on it! The creature simply growled and shoved Godzilla backwards into a nearby building demolishing it in an instant. Adding insult to injury the monster whipped its tail generating spherical energy blasts from the tip. All of the spheres shot right for the ruined building, and detonated on contact engulfing the downed Godzilla in a massive explosion!
''Craven get NIGEL to get that thing's attention! Lure it away from Baby!'' Lucy frantically yelled to the older scientist.
Typing in orders on his PC as fast as his fingers could move Craven had NIGEL swerve to get the monsters attention. ''Yessiree that there's a huge diamond in the rough! Must be a million carats in it!'' NIGEL drove around now joking like a rich hillbilly.
Growling at the tiny robotic annoyance, the monster's long tail simply whacked NIGEL dozens of feet up in the air sending him flying. "MAHHHH!'' Came his usual wail of death as he smashed to pieces on a large multi-level parking garage roof.
''NO! NIGEL!" Craven yelled, wondering if his robot was doomed to be trashed again and again.
The enemy monster roared as it caused a large shockwave to appear, easily decimating the few standing buildings. The chasm deepened as the creature retreated back underground. Not long after that Godzilla freed himself from the rubble, he shook his body ridding his scales of the dust. He looked around, sensing his enemy had eluded him. Sniffing around the battlefield he let out a few growling snorts as if to say "what happened?''. He was defeated, badly no less. How'd it happen?
The oversized reptile knelt down to its adoptive parents as if wondering what to do next. "Sorry Godzilla I don't know what to tell you. Just head back to the HEAT Seeker.'' Nick told him.
As the giant reptile trudged off towards the ocean front Randy flopped down on a spare tire, one piece of lots of junk littering the streets. "That went well.'' He grumbled.
Indeed the battle against whatever this new mutant monstrosity was off to a terrible start, even Elsie could see it. ''Great now we're batting 500. Just great.''
Still it seemed NIGEL had transmitted some last bits of vital information, just before he got smashed. Typing furiously Craven pulled up the data charts from before, he gestured for Lucy to add the crystal data as well. "It seems our monster is some sort of crystalline based entity, using the mineral quartz and its related variety amethyst. Though how its even alive is puzzling. I'm not detecting mush in the way of many vital organs." Craven said looking over the data NIGEL gathered before being smacked.
''Krystalak." Lucy said coining a name for it while typing in more computing commands.
"Krystalak?" Randy asked before getting a few funny looks. "Hey I'm just sayin... "
"You got any better names for it Randy?" Elsie asked and got no answer.
"Well... " Scratching his head Randy stammered but no words came out. "No not really.''
"Thought so." Lucy said getting the final word in.
''Well now how do we beat it?'' The redheaded lady said bringing up a good point.
That was a good question though, Krystalak's durability was tough enough to resist Godzilla's Atomic Breath. His most powerful weapon mind you. ''Well we've seen how strong its durability is. Not surprising considering its based off quartz, the fourth hardest natural substance known to science. Right after topaz, rubies & sapphires, and then finally diamonds. So I propose we employ an advanced prototype weapon on him.'' Lucy explained bringing up a folder containing new specialized weapons... this time called High Frequency Amplifier Projectiles or as the army coined them ''Banshee Missiles''.
They were built to generate extremely high frequency soundwave blasts to shatter extremely dense and durable armor plating. But on the flip side they could be modified to attack hides of durable mutations. "These, the ''Banshee Missiles''. We arm some F-22's with them and attack Krystalak from all sides. Hopefully we can damage his hide enough so Baby can take 'im down.''
"Now all we must do is wait for it to appear again.'' Monique mused. "I will notify Hicks and equip the pilots.'' Getting out her phone getting in contact with Hicks.
Everyone let out a huge sigh of frustration, how could they lure this thing out from the dark depths of the earth? Where all sorts of nightmares began? What sort of thing might even attract him? Then it hit Lucy like a semi truck. "Monique hand me a bazooka from the jeep and a Banshee Missile. In the meantime have Hicks get those F-22's ready.'' She instructed.
The so-called Banshee Missile were mostly like a regular old missile, with a blue paint scheme. But the tip was equipped with a large segmented speaker system, this was where the powerful blasts of sound came from. Fetching the aforementioned bazooka and missile from Monique, Lucy smirked as she loaded the projectile into the launcher. Then she fired one deep straight into the gaping chasm. "Everyone put these on. Trust me you'll need 'em. If we can't lure him out we'll get him mad.'' Lucy said handing out several headsets, specifically designed to block out loud decibels.
Just then a loud piercing shrieking sound was heard from deep within the bowels of the chasm, as well as a loud growling coming from deep below. Then a loud bellowing roar as Krystalak made a huge leap out of the hole. He landed with a thud on pavement as the missile flew loops around him barraging hims with high frequency bursts of sound. Grabbing some binoculars Randy saw small cracks growing in Krystalak's crystal armor. Seems Lucy's sly plan was working.
That is until Krystalak expelled a purplish beam of light involving exploding crystal shards suspended and flung them all it in a solid stream, bludgeoning the annoying Banshee Missile from a distance. It exploded in a fiery blast, Krystalak then went on the attack after dealing with the missile like a person does killing a mosquito.
''Uh Luce seems your missiles should've done more shooting and less screaming!'' Randy said diving under a table, just as metallic shrapnel embedded itself on said tabletop.
As Krystalak trudged along he went into the city, even worse the buildings outside of the giant chasm which meant thousands of innocent lives were at risk. Plus Krystalak wasn't really the merciful type. One who was without mercy now wasn't going to get it from Godzilla! He hadn't gone that far from the HEAT team, and ready as always came charging at Krystalak!
The crystalline monster whipped its tail around, only Godzilla ducked as Krystalak's spiky tail got stuck on a nearby building face. It pulled with all its might only to find it was stuck. Seeing his foe was open to attack, Godzilla gave Krystalak a hefty clawed uppercut to his enemy's face sending him reeling back. As if on cue dozen F-22 Raptor jets swooped in and fired off their Banshee Missile barrage.
The many missiles swarmed around Krystalak broadcasting their shriek of a sound attack, despite being like buzzing flies to the giant monster they were nevertheless annoying. Quickly freeing his tail Krystalak swatted at them and missed, but like before the high frequencies of sound were cracking his mineral based armor. The cracks in it grew even bigger, as pieces broke off hitting the blacktop. The monster roared out in anger as Godzilla simply roared back at him. By this point the enemy monster was in a state of frenzied rage, Krystalak leaped up high in the air and created a number of prism filled cyclones in three consecutive bursts. As the attack began the prisms hit Godzilla sending him landing flat on his face!
"Baby!'' Lucy screamed only for Godzilla began digging a hole. Quickly he retreated underground.
As the missiles continued their powerful sonic attack, Krystalak swatted at a few destroying them, the creature was in a daze, as still more of its crystal armor shattered and breaking off. Still more of its body began cracking as Krystalak fell to the ground now on its knees. It let out another roar of defiance, as suddenly Godzilla burst from the ground, his fins flashed then his eyes as he let loose a powerful burst of his Atomic Breath.
Now with his crystalline hide cracked Krystalak was engulfed in Godzilla's powerful Atomic Breath, roaring in a fit of rage! Then the unbelievable happened, his upper body shattered now vaporized by the breath's power. His arms exploded next then his waist and legs as his body was reduced to nothing more than half melted shards of amethyst.
With that Krystalak was no more, as Godzilla roared out in victory making his way back to the ocean waters near the HEAT Seeker. Giving a small whistle Randy gazed deep into the hole Krystalak and his crystal weapons made. "Now that's what I call a hole load of trouble. Am I right guys?'' He joked waiting for a high five.
Sighing Monique knew he would never change his juvenile sense of humor. "Naturally Randy you had to ruin the moment. How fitting.''
Still the hole was going to need some way of repair work, and done with the upmost of modern technology. The citizens of Tokyo weren't going to like living with a massive chasm in the middle of their streets, something Elsie pondered. ''Now I wonder who's gonna fill in that hole? Gonna cost the Tokyo taxpayers a lot of moolah to fix. I'd hate to be the messenger to tell them that.''
Just then all eyes were glancing at Lucy, she had volunteered to be the Tokyo liaison with HEAT. She frankly thought she was the member one fit for the job. Now she really hated herself for volunteering. Plunking her head down on a table Lucy had only one word to say about that. "Shit.''

Ok another chapter is done and I hope I can update more of my fics. I haven't been updating this as much because of a bad combination of writer's block, time, COVID-19, and well ambition. Crazy I know... But I just have too many ideas running around my head and nowhere near enough time to do them all. Still I've managed to finish a few of my stories though. So at least I've finished something, and I feel proud of it.

PS: Also I want you the readers the choice to decide which story I should do... Or Power Loud Rangers. Its a PR and Loud House crossover, where villains from another dimension invade Royal Woods and several past Rangers lending their powers to a select few Loud characters. First Lincoln will be 15 and the second oldest in the house. He'll be the Magna Defender from Lost Galaxy. Clyde McBride will be the Green Samurai Ranger from Ninja Storm. Zach Gurdle will take on teh powers of Robo Knight from Megaforce. Farm boy Liam is Solaris Knight from Mystic Force. Our girl Stella is now the Red Samurai Ranger as seen in Super Samurai. Last but not least Rusty Spokes is now the Titanium Ranger from Lightspeed Rescue.
Also for my Gridman Noize story should I set it after or before Ronnie Anne moves to Great Lakes City? If so then Stella's going to be in it instead. It will not a be a pairing with her though or Stella (or Girl Jordan either/despite playing a role in it). However Haiku, Tabby, Giggles, Polly Pain will hook up with Clyde, Liam, Zach, and Rusty.
