Chapter 9: The Truth about Bella

Carlisle's POV

Once everyone was gone apart from Esme, Edward, and I, I said, "Well why don't we all have a seat. No point in us not being comfortable while we talk."

Once we were seated Edward said, "I take it that I'm not welcomed here by the cold greeting that I was greeted with."

"Edward of course you're welcomed here. It's just that a lot has happened to this family while you were gone and to be honest we have to decide if you being here will be in the best interest for Bella." Esme said in her motherly voice.

"What do you mean? Has something happened to Bella? Is she alright?" Edward asked concern and worry written all over his face and voice.

"Well since you left she's been giving everyone the cold shoulder and well she's been cutting and burning herself on the wrists. She's been in and out of the hospital these past three years. Overall today before you came she was back to normal. I mean I think that we have her on the right medication. She hasn't done harm to herself for six months. And that is a great accomplishment for her. She has never been this well in a long time." I explained.

"I'm sorry Carlisle. This is my fault. I've been running the day that I left over and over again in my head and I never should have left."

"Then why did you?" Esme asked, I could tell that she was trying to understand why Edward did what he did.

"I wish I knew. I mean I just got this urge to leave and how I treated you all was uncalled for and for that I apologize."

"Well regardless we have to think about Bella and her wellbeing." I said, though I was glad that Edward was home, I was also worried about how Bella would take it.

"Well what should I do in the mean time? I don't want to be where I'm not wanted." Edward said, I knew that he felt bad about what happened but what could I do? I don't want to lose my son but at the same time I don't want Bella to hurt or hurt herself either.

"Carlisle she's up." Emmett called to us staying on the top of the stairs.

"I'm coming." I said as got off the couch.

"Actually she wants to talk to Edward first." Emmett said with a low growl escaping from him. I knew that he was, like all of them upset and ready to kill Edward for what he did to Bella.

"Do I dare?" Edward asked hesitant to go upstairs.

"We'll come with you." Esme said trying to make it easier.

Edward's POV

As we got upstairs I noticed that Bella had move into a different bedroom. Originally she was next to mine but now she was in between Alice and Jasper's, and Emmett and Rosalie's room.

As if he read my mind Carlisle said, "She feels more secure and safe with her brothers on both sides of her. That way should she have a nightmare they will be by her side in an instant."

"Oh ok." I said as I realized the damage that I have done to her.

As I walked into Bella's room, I noticed that all eyes were on me. When I looked at Bella, I saw that she had been crying and my first instinct was to run to her and comfort her but I resisted when I heard Jasper and Emmett give me a low growl.

"Its ok guys." Bella said as she placed both her hands on Emmett and Jasper. "Could you all leave me and Edward alone to talk? I'll be ok I promise."

"If you need us call us." Jasper said in a comforting tone.

"Yeah we'll be here in a heartbeat." Emmett added.

"Thank you guys. Really I'm ok."

"Are you sure Bella?" Both Rosalie and Alice asked in unison.

"Yes I'm sure. Now please Edward and I need to talk."

Once everyone was gone I walked hesitantly towards Bella who was still in her bed.

"Look Bella I know that I have a lot of apologizing to you and making up… I just…"

"Why did you leave me and our family for? Was it something that I said? Was it something that I did? Edward say something."

"To tell you the truth I don't really understand why I reacted and treated you and our family that way. I've been visiting our family all around the world and the more I recollect the events the more I don't understand why I reacted the way that I did."

"You never wrote or called me all these years. I didn't mean to push you away and make you leave. It seems that I'm always losing the people that I love the most." Bella said tears forming on her face.

"Wait what are you talking about?"

"Well you, my biological mom, my biological dad. I love you all and you all left me. I'm afraid that I'll lose everyone that I love and I can't… I can't go through that again. I need to…"

"Bella shh, its ok. I'm here. I'm never going to leave you again. I'm sorry to have caused you any pain. I love you more than life its self. I realize that now and please forgive me."

"Edward?" Bella asked as she looked at me, her trembling subsiding. However tears were still falling from her beautiful saddened brown eyes.

"I'm here."

"That's all I need to know."
