Jackal the Bald Head Loner 2

Once bitten and twice shy, I keep my distance, but you still catch my eyes…

It has been 5 years since Jackal visited Japan. Many have changed just like how he grew his hair after he come back to Brazil. He even pursued the lady who brought him the stray cat and ended up marrying her a year ago. Jackal's veterinary clinic is often visited by middle school students whenever they found stray animals that needed help. However, it's different this time since Christmas is around the corner. Most students who visit his clinic are doing Christmas caroling in order to raise funds for their clubs. Jackal is about to close his clinic when a group of middle school boys with tennis bags sling on their shoulders started their Christmas carol. Even though Jackal is getting tired of the countless bunches of students draining his wallet, he cannot help it but to give. He is Jackal, "the mother hen", after all.

The middle school boys started to sing, some gleefully, some timid, while the tallest among them seems serious. Jackal remembers his teammates way back in Rikkaidai. How are they doing now? It is only Sanada and Yukimura who were able to attend his beach wedding last year. Who would have thought that the wedding reception mistaken those two as the groom and bride of the wedding. Sanada almost tarundoru slapped the resort employees when the flower petals showered him and Yukimura as they enter the banquet hall while Yukimura enjoyed everything that happened. Marui, his so called best friend, wasn't able to attend the wedding due to his mandatory national service. The others were also not present due to the same reason except for Kirihara who got injured during his line of duty as a police agent.

"Doctor, doctor, hellooooo…", a boy with curly hair ,who seems to be the youngest among the group, waved his hand in front of Jackal's face.

Jackal went back to his senses after spacing a little bit and immediately pulled out paper bills from his wallet. "I'm sorry.. Merry Christmas.", he said and gave the money to the curly haired boy.

"Thank you Doctor Jackal. You're the best! Merry Christmas!", another boy said as he hook his arm around the curly haired boy's shoulder and popped the bubble gum on his mouth.

Jackal smiled. He cannot deny that he missed his previous team every time he saw their resemblance on others. He checked his phone and he got a message from his wife. It has been a year since he married a goddess named Maria Rosa Dianna Salvador. Dianna is a former beauty queen who won the major title in the most coveted beauty pageant in the universe. Kami-sama has indeed blessed and rewarded Jackal with a confidently beautiful and kind wife for being a good guy. Currently, Dianna owned an events company catering parties and weddings for high profile businessmen, actors and politicians. Dianna's latest event to organize is in South Korea. It is for a high profile Japanese billionaire who flamboyantly wanted a Mardi Gras themed hall and attendants' costumes on his wedding on Christmas Eve. Who can pull out the best Mardi Gras themed wedding better than the number 1 events company in Brazil, right? It was so far the most expensive wedding that Dianna will organize though she really didn't understand why the wedding should take place in South Korea and not in Japan.

"I already booked my plane ticket going to South Korea.", Jackal read the message. He took a deep breath to release his frustration. This is supposed to be the first Christmas that they should spend together as a married couple. They are supposed to complete Misa de Gallo everyday until Christmas but due to Dianna's work, it is now impossible.

Jackal's phone beeps again, "By the way Mi Amor, I got a surprise for you. I also booked you a ticket going to Japan." Jackal blinked in disbelief. His goddess wife has booked a plane ticket for him to Japan. Jackal scratched his head which has now grown hair. He feels shy but then he still calls his wife.

"You don't have to do that Mi Amor.. It is fine with me to stay here..," Jackal said.

"But I already made the arrangement. I even called your brother in Japan that you will visit him. See you later Mi Amor. Sorry, I have to take a call from my client.." Diana answered her other phone, "Hello Mr. A-", then she disconnects Jackal's call.

His wife is really sensitive of his feelings. She didn't want him to be alone on Christmas so she booked a flight going back to Japan for him to be with his family. Their work has demanded most of their time but they still took effort to make the most of everything.

At the airport before they depart for their respective flights, Dianna hugged Jackal. "I'm sorry. I won't be able to spend Christmas with you this year.", she apologize.

"It's fine. We still have the New Year.", Jackal tries to console his wife and he kissed her. Then they went their respective holding areas.

At Narita Airport, a red convertible sports car stopped in front of Jackal. The owner of the car lowered his sun glasses and greeted him, "Yo! Hisashiburi, Jackal."

Jackal smiled and immediately put his luggage at the car's compartment. "It has been a while, Bunta."

"Tsk, not only a while. It has been freaking five years since you didn't show your face and your bald head! Oh wait! You are not bald anymore, whatever.", Marui sulks while he drives his car.

Jackal suddenly feels guilty. After five years, this is the only time he stepped in Japan again. "I hope to see everyone.", he said.

"Good luck if you can. Akaya is missing for a month and only heaven knows if he is still alive after his girlfriend dumped him for good this time.", Marui commented.

"Poor Akaya.. how about the others?", Jackal asked and pulled a chocolate bar from his coat and gave to Marui.

Marui's sulking mood suddenly changed as he grabbed the chocolate bar and continue his story until they reached Jackal's family house. "Well, Niou is heartbroken and is up for revenge. Yagyuu's wife wanted a divorce. Yanagi just got married last summer and is having trouble adjusting to married life. Why didn't you attend his wedding again? Anyway, Yukimura is having relationship troubles right now so better not turn on his bad side. Sanada is still loveless. Well, there is nothing new about him. If you're gonna ask about me, well things are getting complicated between me and my girlfriend."

Jackal couldn't believe it. His teammates are also having a hard time just as he is with Dianna. Maybe they really are grown up. They now need to work on their jobs and relationships. After Marui dropped him at his family's home and settled his things, he went to their family's ramen shop. Then he called Dianna.

"Mi Amor, I'm sorry. I cannot take a call right now. I just arrived at Jeju Island. I have to meet my client in a few minutes. I will call you later.", Dianna explained and hang up the phone.

Jackal sighed. He thought that after marrying Dianna, he won't be alone anymore. But it seems that he is wrong. Dianna is always pre-occupied with her work. He didn't want to hinder his wife's happiness and passion so he let her do whatever she likes. For him, Dianna as an event's organizer is better than seeing her as a fashion model or actress. He knew that Dianna has turned down many offers on fashion modeling and acting even before they got married because the girl knows that he disapproved of it. Therefore in return, Jackal kept his protest within himself about Dianna's job as an event organizer.

Two days have passed and he still feels alone even he is staying with his family. He decided to meet up with Marui and played street tennis. Somehow it helps him forgot being sentimental of not spending the Christmas holiday with his wife. It's not that he is being clingy to Dianna, but to think that 5 years ago it's the same season when they first met.

"Are you ok?", Marui asked as he served the ball and popped his bubblegum.

"I'm ok, a bit..", Jackal replied and hit the ball. "FIRE!"

Marui smiled at how honest his former doubles partner replied. Their rally continued for half an hour until Marui called for a time out.

"So what is bothering you?", Marui asked as he drinks from his water bottle.

"I feel something is not right, you know..", Jackal replied as he touched his head out his habit.

Marui's smile widen. "Is it about your goddess wife? Did she also file for a divorce like Yagyuu's wife?"

"Its not –", Jackal scowls but was interrupted by Marui.

"I knew it! At last she realized you are no good for her!", Marui amusingly said while pointing a finger at his poor half-Brazilian friend.

"No! No! No! She is not filing for a divorce.", Jackal clarified which made Marui to drop his Cheshire cat smile. "I feel we are getting preoccupied by our career. We cannot spend our first Christmas as a married couple."

Marui shook his head then placed both his hands on Jackal's shoulders, "Your problem is very simple to solve for a tensai like me. You are just over thinking and complicating things Jackal."

Jackal blinked. Does his problem that easy to solve? His tensai friend continues, "Listen. You are shying yourself in the corner again. Did you even bother to ask her if she is alright? Do you even drive for her going to her events? Or do you even visit her to drop a dose of coffee when she got hectic schedule?"

"Well I – I don't..", Jackal stammered as he realized the small things that he missed doing to Dianna.

"Sometimes we think we are doing the right thing, but the truth is we are not. Now, what are you waiting for! Pack your things, leave Japan and go to her!", Marui cheerfully dragged his oblivious friend away from the tennis court. "Gee! Should I drop you at the airport?"

After a few hours, Jackal finds himself walking in the street of Jeju Island as he dragged his luggage going to the hotel Marui booked for him. The weather is growing cold and the first snow can fall anytime soon. He continued on his way until his attention was caught by the ringing of a church bell. He looks around and found the source of the sound. It is indeed from a church where Misa de Gallo was held. He aimlessly walked towards it.

He stopped outside the church door and pulled his phone from his coat. Should he call his wife and inform the later that he follows her? He stares at his phone until he sensed that somebody is standing before him. He slowly lifted his head and his face lit up.

"Mi Amor, you're here..", the goddess before him said with a smile.

"I'm here.. and forever will be here for you. Mi Amor.", Jackal replied and hugged the goddess before him. "I'm sorry for making you wait."

The first snow falls as the couple kissed and went inside the church to attend Misa de Gallo seven days before Christmas Eve.
