Classic Rock

At Rock Hollow, Melody was slowly rocking a red and black egg in a small rocking cradle, humming it a melodious lullaby. She then carefully kissed the top of the egg and wrapped it gently in a warm fleece as Mal came in, saying, "Aw. Don't you look precious taking care of your soon-to-be sibling, Melody"? Melody looked up, saying, "I still can't believe I'm going to be a big sister soon, and I'm going to have a little brother or sister to hang out with." Yes, you heard it right. Mal Shredder had another egg, and Melody was going to be a big sister. What happened that led up to this moment? Let's turn the clock back to a couple of days ago when Mal first showed Melody and Val the egg and expressed the wondrous news.

Flashback to a couple of days ago...

"Melody, you're going to be a big sister"! Melody's jaw dropped to the floor as Val asked in shock, "Wait a minute! The egg belongs to you? We're having another baby"?! Mal smiled and nodded, replying, "Yes. We're soon going o have another rock troll to add to our family." Melody remained speechless and unresponsive as Val asked in confusion and disbelief, "But...how? Unless I misinterpreted that video in health class, isn't there supposed to be a dad involved when it comes to having an egg"? Mal replied, "Normally, yes. But you see, Melody, Val, before your father/uncle died, a little while after Melody hatched, he wanted to save a little love for in case we ever wanted to have another child in the future. So, we saved some of the love from our "special hugs" and kept it in a safe spot for some time. It remained untouched for years until a couple of weeks ago. When I saw you two having fun together, I thought adding a new addition to the family would make things a lot crazier but more fun for our little clan. So, I got the container that held the love, I released it and then had the egg around yesterday afternoon while you two were out." Melody finally seemed to snap out of it as she closed her mouth and said, growing excited in each word, "This...is...so...AWESOME! I can't believe I'm going to be a big sister! You're gonna get a new little cousin, Val! Woo-hoo"! She hugged Val tightly as the rock ambassador wheezed out, "I'm excited too, Melly, but...can't breathe"! Mal chuckled as she watched both cousins express their enjoyment for their future sibling/cousin to hatch soon and arrive.

End of flashback

Val soon came into the bedroom as he said, "All right, I'm set. You ready, Melly"? Melody hopped down and said, "All set," as she whispered goodnight to the egg before hugging her mom, saying, "We'll be right back." Mal placed a gentle kiss on Melody's forehead as she said, "Stay safe, both of you, and good luck." They both nodded and left to head out to a special place they were heading tonight, but first, they had to pick someone, or should I say, some trolls up. At Poppy's pod, Poppy was sound asleep when she heard loud guitar playing that woke her up and made her fall out of bed. She looked and saw Val playing and went to tell her that it was too loud, but her voice was not audible in the noise. When Val noticed Poppy standing in front of her, she stopped and said, "Oh, good. You're awake. I need your help with something." Before Poppy could begin scolding Val on how she shouldn't be playing her guitar so loudly in the middle of the night, Melody was running up to them, shouting, "Hold up," while dragging a half-asleep Aggie with them. The Magical Musical troll yawned and rubbed her eyes while asking, "What could you need our help for at this hour? It's the middle of the night." Val started to explain, saying, "Recently, Melly and I noticed that Demo, my band manager, has been acting really, really strange. Like downright weird strange."

Melody added, "Yeah, and it's been hitting us hard on what could possibly be up. He's been super tired recently, he's been missing jam sessions, and then the biggest red flag of all! Yesterday, he wore a tie...pause for dramatic effect...without irony." Aggie, thinking about this, asked, "Well, did you two try to talk to Demo about this"? Melody looked at Val, who shrugged and said, "Well, I'm not really good at the "Talking about stuff" stuff. And Melly's tried, but he keeps telling her that he's just coming up with "inspiration" for me. Well, the only thing it's inspiring me to do is find out answers! So...we need you both to go talk to him." Poppy fawned over this as her eyes grew wide while she said cutely, "Aw! Val! Melody! You two are concerned about your friend"! As she kept this up for a couple more seconds, Melody then asked, "So...are you going to help us"? Aggie snapped Poppy out of it as he said proudly, "Count us in! We're more than happy to help you find out why Demo's been acting so weird"! A little while later, Demo was sneaking back to Rock Hollow while holding his guitar, and he seemed to be really nervous about something. He was doing his best to try and not wake everyone up, but then, he accidentally stepped on a rubber duck, and it made a loud squeak. A fellow rock troll got up but then went right back to sleep, to Demo's relief.

He kept tiptoeing as quietly as he could before making it to the couch as he sat down and sighed a breath of relief. However, behind two throw pillows, Poppy and Aggie appeared as Poppy quickly made a soundproofing hair shield around the trio. Despite being nervous and terribly startled, Demo tried to play it cool by asking, "Hey, uh, Poppy, and Aggie, my go-to Magical Musical troll. W-What's shakin'"? Poppy calmly replied, "Not much, Demo. Then again, I'm not the one sneaking into my own home, trying not to be noticed." Aggie then asked, "So, the real question here is, what's shaking with you, Demo"? Demo seemed to grow tenser by the minute as he shakily replied, "N-Nothing's shakin'. Heh-heh." Poppy and Aggie weren't about to give up as Aggie then commented, "Ah, but see. We are very good listeners, and judging by how your voice just cracked right now, it's a clear sign that indeed...something...is...shaking." Demo sweatdropped in nervousness before using his finger to push the sweat back up before saying, "What? No, it doesn't. Wizard lady, you crazy." He tried to chuckle the awkward situation off as he made a run for it, with Poppy and Aggie on his tail.

In the one quick second that he glanced up at the sky, Poppy caught him and shouted while running, "Uh-huh! You just glanced up! Up as in Classical Crest! This has something to do with the classical trolls"! Everyone stopped as Aggie, who was flying, accidentally crashed into Poppy as Demo said in disbelief, "How are you even doing this, man"?! That signified their answer as Aggie got up, saying, "That's it! You've been sneaking off to play classical music with the classical trolls"! Demo shushed them before saying in nervousness, "Fine! You've figured me out! Now, can you get out of my head both of you adorable pink lady wizards"?! As Poppy got up, she blew glitter off her finger and said, "Of course, Demo." He then led Poppy and Aggie to what looked like a flower elevator while saying, "Come with me. I'll show you what I've been up to." As they climbed into the elevator, it took them up to Classical Crest. On the top floor, they entered what looked like a huge music hall. As they walked inside, there were dining tables filled with classical trolls waiting in anticipation for tonight's musical act. Aggie and Poppy sat down at a table while Demo said, "Now, watch what I'm about to do on stage." He then opened his guitar case and pulled out what looked like a brownish and gold wooden guitar before walking onto the stage. He counted off, but instead of a loud and noisy beat playing, he began to lightly strum it, producing a soft and gentle tune, similar to how Melody would whenever she played pop music on her electric guitar.

Both Poppy and Aggie were happily surprised as Poppy said, "Ooh! It's classical guitar"! Suddenly, their friend and Dante's protege, Minuet Sonata, appeared in front of them, saying, "Indeed, ladies! You would never expect to hear such a delicate melody from a hard rock troll, but everything he does exudes classical." Aggie seemed to be in awe as she said, "It's so beautiful! Who knew someone as tough and rumble as Demo could have such an elegant side"? As Demo finished his first song, he stated, "That was called "The Piercing Scream of the Flaming Skull." As he made a rock gesture while the audience clapped, Poppy and Aggie were still in complete shock about the marvelous thing they had just witnessed. As Demo came to sit with them, Poppy asked, "Demo, that was so gentle, so sensitive. Why would you keep this a secret"? Demo sadly replied, "Because hard rock trolls don't do "gentle and sensitive." Especially Val. I know she doesn't mind it when her cousin does something like that with pop music, no offense to you, Poppy, because she's family. But with me, I am an acquaintance of her hard rock ways of life. If she catches you doing anything that she thinks doesn't rock, you get what she calls..."The face." Aggie then pointed out, "Um, what is "The face" supposed to be like because she does a lot of facial expressions, so it's kind of hard to determine the main ones out of it." Demo explained, "It's like a disapproving glare/suspicious look/slight agitation, does that make sense"?

Poppy and Aggie thought about it before saying, "Oh," in unison, while Aggie commented, "That is pretty bad." Poppy then explained, "I get tit, Demo. It's hard to be vulnerable when you think someone's gonna judge you. But you can't hide this! You clearly love classical culture." Demo then placed his hands up and said, "Woah, Woah, Woah. I said I liked classical guitar, but there is no evidence that I love classical culture." At that moment, Dante appeared, saying, "Breathtaking performance, Demo." In response, Demo's hair spikes went down as he responded, "Many thanks, my classical brother." They both picked up their teacups and stuck their pinkies out before sipping on the tea and enjoying a heartfelt chuckle. Aggie and Poppy, who had satisfying smirks on their face, were enjoying this as Aggie commented, "So, what was that you said about no evidence of you liking classical culture, Demo"? Demo frantically replied, "Okay, I love it. But you can't tell Val. I mean, I'm alright if you tell Melody as long as she doesn't tell Val, but you can't let Val know about this." Poppy winced as she said, "I am not very good at keeping secrets, not even my own," before randomly shouting, "Hopscotch is overrated"! As she covered her mouth, Aggie replied, "I can help, Demo. I won't tell anyone, and I will try to keep Poppy in check and make sure she doesn't spill the beans about this." Demo bowed his head and said, "Oh, thank you so much, Aggie. I'm practicing for a big concert here in the crest this weekend! And I can't let the fear of "The face" distract me! Promise me you'll keep quiet till after the show. After that, you can tell her if you want."

Aggie nodded while saying, "You can count on me, Demo. Right Poppy,"? Poppy shakily nodded as she then randomly shouted, "I like yellow marshmallows," before covering her mouth again as Aggie sighed, saying, 'This is going to be tough." After the show came to an end, Aggie and Poppy went back to Rock Hollow to tell Melody and Val that "Everything was fine." While Poppy went to talk to Val, Aggie went to find Melody, and when she entered Val and Melody's bedroom, she came across a heart-warming sight. Melody was sitting in a chair next to an egg and reading a book to it. Aggie squealed in excitement as she said, "Oh my troll! I didn't know you guys recently got an egg"! Melody chuckled as she closed her book, saying, "Mom had it recently, and I'm helping to take care of it. It'll provide great practice for once it hatches, and I officially become a big sister." Aggie smiled and squealed excitedly as she hugged Melody while saying, "You're going to be a great big sister"! As Melody high-fived Aggie, she felt her eyes daze and flash white before realizing she was in Aggie's mind. Melody looked around, saying, "This is just like what happened before with Laguna! I must be in Aggie's memories"! Melody found the crystal ball again and touched it as it played the memory where Poppy and Aggie were at Classical Crest and saw Demo not only playing classical guitar but indulging in the fine society of classical culture. Then, it played him telling Poppy and Aggie about keeping this a secret and not letting Val find out. Finally, it played where he told them about the concert and did not want to get distracted. Melody watched in silence as she smiled, saying, "I didn't know he liked classical music. Hm...I can see why he would be afraid of Val disapproving." Suddenly, she felt herself getting lifted up again as the ball disappeared while Melody in the real world returned to her senses.

As she shook her head and rubbed her eyes, Aggie asked, "What happened? Are you alright"? Melody then asked, "When we high-fived, I saw your memories. Is it really true that Demo enjoys playing classical guitar"? Aggie gasped as he said, "Wow, you really did see them because I haven't even told you that yet! How long have you had this power"?! Melody shrugged and said, "For some time now, but it hasn't been in effect a lot. Not since the day Laguna had another panic attack, which was when it first started." Aggie then said, "Where did this come from," as the pop/rock troll replied, "I don't really know. It just seemed to start, and I don't even know what triggered it. But no worries, Aggie. I can keep this a secret from Val until after the concert." Then, they saw Poppy talking to Val as the rock ambassador shrugged and walked away, leaving Poppy a little tense, but relieved as Melody commented, "But I think you're going to have to keep an eye on Poppy. She can be a real motormouth of you leave her running." Aggie nodded but also couldn't help but chuckle because what Melody said was true. Leave Poppy alone, and she can talk a mile of minute about anything and everything.

The next morning, Poppy woke up and walked to her window, saying, "Ah. Good morning, Trollstopia." She poured herself a cup of tea and was about to sip on it when she turned around and noticed Val, a nervous Demo who was holding his guitar case, and Melody with a stroller and an egg resting gently inside. The first thing Poppy could say was, "And good morning to you too, Val and Demo." Then, she saw the egg and saw this as the perfect chance to erase any suspicions as she gasped, had a huge smile, and said, "Oh my troll! That is the cutest egg I've ever seen"! Melody chuckled as she said, "Poppy, meet my soon-to-be brother or sister." Poppy's smile grew as she shouted, "You're going to be a big sister?! That's so cool! Have you picked out names for it yet"?! Melody shrugged and said, "Mom, Val, and I have been having discussions on that. If it's a boy, we've been thinking on Heath, Spike, or my personal favorite, Bill Jr, after my dad." Poppy had wide eyes and a smile sweeter than candy as she said, "That's so cute! I think I might ugly cry." Poppy then proceeded to ugly cry as Demo saw this as the perfect chance to sneak away to practice for his concert as he quickly disappeared without getting noticed. After ugly crying for what felt like two hours, Val then asked, "Are you finished"? Poppy sniffled as she then composed herself and said, "Please continue." Melody then said, "And if it's a girl, we've been thinking of Evie, Harmony, Pillar, or Cora." Val then piped in, saying, "Personally, my top picks are Evie and Bill Jr, and Melly agrees with me. What's your opinion, Popsqueak"? Poppy then thought about it, saying, "Huh. Well, they are all adorable names. but if I had to pick...uh..." Poppy then spent another two hours saying UH just to stall Val from noticing that Demo was missing purposely. Luckily, in the second that Val closed her eyes and almost fell asleep at the two-hour mark, Demo raced in unnoticed as he finally spoke up, saying, "Don't you just love Evie and Bill Jr"?

Poppy nodded while internally sighing a huge breath of relief as she said, "Yep! I agree! Bill Jr and Evie are your best picks." Val sighed and exclaimed, "Finally! You sure seem to be indecisive today, Poppy." Poppy shrugged as she said, "Guess I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. Anyways, what brings you guys here"? Demo then said, "Get this, Poppy. Val caught me sneaking out earlier, and I told her I was coming to see you and help you pick out new speakers. But, since you're feeling indecisive today, I can always come back tomorrow. Is that alright with you"? Poppy nodded while saying, "Yes, Demo! Of course, you can come by tomorrow to help me pick out new speakers like we were supposed to do today." While Val at first seemed suspicious, she brushed it off, saying, "Cool. Mind if I join in tomorrow? I love speakers,"? Demo and Poppy hesitated, saying nervously, "Sure. That sounds great," but Melody saved them as she said, "Wait, Val! you can't tomorrow. It's your turn to watch your future cousin tomorrow, and you're supposed to give it a tour around Trollstopia, remember"? Val facepalmed and said, "Ah, you're right. My bad, Melly. Sorry Popsqueak, Demo. Guess I won't be joining you tomorrow." Poppy and Demo feigned disappointment as Demo said, "Aw, it's ok, Val. You can join us next time," as Poppy added, "Yeah. The next time I need new speakers, you will be the first troll we invite." Melody then said, "Come on, Val, we got to take the egg to see Dr. MoonBloom so she can check on how it's doing." As Val and Melody left, Demo and Poppy sighed a breath of relief as Poppy stated while exhausted, "That was too close of a call." Demo added, "Hopefully, that does not happen again."

Two days later, Aggie was doing some yoga in her pod. She was bending down to do downward troll when she saw Val and Demo standing behind her. She squeaked in surprise and tumbled forward, falling back first as she asked, "Val! Demo! You startled me! What brings you two to my place"? Val asked, "Demo told me that you two were planning to spend the whole day firing pyrotechnics? Is that true"? Aggie nodded, only because she didn't want Val to catch onto her as the rock ambassador replied, "Cool. In fact, I'll join you. Demo, why don't you head back to the hollow and grab my explosives"? Demo smiled, saying excitedly, "Got it, boss," as he used this opportunity to rush out and head to practice in secret. As Aggie got up and poured herself a cup of coffee, she said, "Yep. Nothing but a whole day of explosives! Talking about getting "fired up," am I right, Val"? While Aggie took a sip, Val then narrowed her eyes and said, "Demo's been spending time with the Classical Trolls"! Aggie ended up spitting out her drink in shock as she shouted, "What? What makes you think something like that"? Val pieced it together, saying, "I got it from the moment he took a sip of his drink this morning. In just a quick millisecond, his pinky stuck out, and we all know that the classical trolls are the only ones who do that! Clearly, he is hiding something, and I am going to go get to the bottom of this"! However, just before she left, she told Aggie, "But I still want to set off those pyrotechnics," before setting off to leave for good. Aggie panicked as she flew as fast as she could to Poppy's pod.

Inside, she shouted, "Poppy! We got trouble! Big trouble! Val found out that Demo's been with the Classical troll and is going to Classical crest to find him"! Poppy shot up like a springboard as she said, "We have to intercept her before she gets to Demo! Quickly! to the Dune Huggy"! Both trolls ran and hopped into Poppy's car and drove as fast at they could to try and get to Val before she could get to Demo.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I'm Coming For You~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Poppy and Aggie: Nothing's gonna slow me down today! No way! Yeah, your secret's safe with me! Yeah!
In a race against time, not falling behind! I'll never get stuck on my way, oh! I'm making it right. I'll make it okay!
Can you hear me when I tell you? I'm coming for you! Rest assured that we're okay!
In a race against time, not falling behind! I'll never get stuck on my way, oh! I'm making it right. I'll make it okay!
I'm coming for you, yeah!
Just in the nick of time, Poppy and Aggie were waiting for Val to come out of the elevator. However, she wasn't inside the elevator. In fact, she was right behind them as she asked, "Uh, guys"? Poppy and Aggie screamed as they turned around as Aggie asked in disbelief, "How did you beat us"? Val shrugged and answered, "I don't know." Demo nervously walked out and ended up face-to-face with Val, who asked suspiciously, "Demo! What are you doing here? And what's up with that not-rocking guitar"? Demo did not know how to respond as Poppy hesitantly said, "Demo wasn't going to play that guitar! He was gonna...smash it." Aggie facepalmed and said, "I can't watch this," as Demo nervously replied, "Yeah," as he grabbed his guitar, preparing to smash it. However, just at the last minute, he stopped, shouting, "No! I can't, and I won't,"! Val became a bit confused as Demo explained, saying, "Val, the reason I've been acting so weird lately is because I've been secretly playing classical guitar. But I'm not going to hide it anymore because I love it." He started to play the guitar, producing a sweet and vulnerable tune as Val listened and started to loosen up, becoming more absorbed into the music.
Once Demo concluded playing, he winced and said, "So, go ahead. give me..."The Face." Hearing that made Val confused as she asked, "What do you mean "The Face"? Demo answered, "The face you make when someone does something you think doesn't rock." Val seemed to understand as she then asked, "You mean the face I make when I don't know how to talk about "mushy feelings" and stuff"? Everyone looked at Val confusingly, as Poppy stated, "hold the glitter. You mean this was all just a big misunderstanding"? Val nodded, saying, "Yeah, and Demo, your classical guitar is excellent. When you play, the scream of my soul echoes endlessly in the flaming recesses of my rock heart. It's beautiful." Demo felt deeply touched by Val's words as she continued with, "Plus, you could've just told me right away, and I still would've said that it was cool. After all, Melly has really helped me open up to other kinds of music, and honestly, classical guitar, and the way you play it, it's stunning." Demo had a huge grin as he said with a slight blush, "Thank you, Val. That really means a lot to me." Val nodded, replying while rubbing her shoulder, "No problem, Demo. And I know a couple of other trolls who are going to feel the same way I do."
Later that night, at Classical Crest, the concert was about to start as Demo shouted, "Hello, Classical Crest"! The crowd, involving a mix of classical trolls, rock trolls, and Demo's friends, applauded as Demo announced while ripping off his outfit, revealing a rocker's costume, "Are you ready to rock"?! Everyone cheered and made the rock gesture as Demo then ripped that outfit off and ended up in a white suit, asking softly, "Classically"? The crowd silenced their cheered and returned to clapping as Demo began to play his classical guitar while everyone listened in awe. Melody took a deep breath as she said, "Man, it's so beautiful. It's like the music's pulling at a side of me I never knew was there until now." Mal added, "Plus, classical music is perfect for the egg because at least our new addition will get to experience a rich sense of culture." The egg, which was in its stroller, seemed to jump in happiness. Val was bopping her head as Aggie commented, "Wow, Val. It looks like the classical culture is really rubbing off of you." Val shrugged it off, saying, "Heh, wrong! I'm just here supporting a friend. There is no evidence that," before taking a sip from her teacup while surprisingly sticking her pinky out. Val, stunned, pressed her pinky down as Aggie and Poppy silently snickered while Val whispered to both of them, "You tell no one about this"! Melody also quietly chuckled as she took a sip from her tea cup, sticking out her pinky while doing so as the egg jumped again, signifying that soon it would hatch.
