Loki, was very much aware that things could go wrong very quickly and he wanted them to be away and out of the public eye. He knew that the rest of the superhero's were no doubt looking for the Iron Man tot. And he didn't want them to find them yet, as he needed to heal the child first and try to atone for some of what he had done.
He smiled softly as he looked down at the small hand that was holding his so trustingly. Anger burned deep in his gut at the thought of someone hurting the child. He shook the thought away before he turned to the child. He did not want the child to think the anger was directed at him in the slightest.
"Does it still hurt young one?" He asked kindly.
"Yeah, it buwns," Tony said breathlessly. Why was it so hard to breathe right now? He didn't think he could keep walking for very long. Not with this pain getting worse, with every step he took.
"Come on, this is going to take too long," Loki said before he bent down and picked the child up and hurried towards the alley.
"What are we doing?" Tony whispered out. It didn't hurt that much to talk if he spoke quieter.
"Returning to my home, via my magic," Loki said with a smile, knowing that the child at this age would be thrilled rather then disbelieving.
"Wow," the little boy said before they disappeared a Moment later.
The minute they appeared in his apartment, Loki hurried over to the table and set the child on it. He gently took off his shirt, his fingers hovering over the mass of scars where the device was. He shook his head at the mess, but it would be fairly simple for him at least.
"Is it gonna huwt?" Tony asked out softly as he watched the light dance off the man's fingers.
"No, I would never want to cause you anymore pain child," Loki promised him before he got to work, continuing to talk to the child, even as he magically took out the shrapnel from the boy's chest.
He healed everything, including the damage done to his heart and lungs. So that when he was done, the reactor itself sat on top of the boy's chest, and not deep in his chest wall where it had been. The child's chest and everything in it was perfect, and would stay that way.
Tony had been calm throughout the whole procedure, and during it his adult mindset had surged forward. He had been in shock and awe as he realized what the Asgardian was doing. He found himself taking a deep breath, only to let out a surprise giggle as nothing hurt! He was a bit embarrassed to feel the tears prick the corner of his eyes, but he hadn't been able to breathe like this in about 20 years. And to think someone he had thought heartless was doing this for him. He couldn't understand why, it didn't make sense.
"Anthony, does something else hurt? Why are you crying?" Loki asked a little alarmed even as he preformed another X-ray, just to make sure that the reactor wasn't the issue. It never would be anymore, he was sure of it.
"Because you fixed me," Tony whispered out tearfully. Why had this particular being been so gentle with him, so caring? Why hadn't the trickster hurt him?
"No child should've had to endure what you have, I'm merely righting a wrong," Loki told the boy kindly.
"Will it stay forever? Even when I grow up?" Tony asked, unable to stop himself from asking.
"Of course, when you're grown up and annoying me again, no harm shall ever come to it," Loki promised fiercely. And he would make sure of it, as he never broke his promises to children.
Tony grinned at the tone, it almost sounded fond. Maybe Thor had been right about his brother, especially because it had been proven that the god had also been mind controlled like Barton.
"Kay," he replied softly before he remembered something. "Is it too hawd to change me back?" He found himself asking.
Tony ignored the hurt that the question caused him, because he knew that as much as his team enjoyed having him small that the world needed Iron Man. Not to mention he was still a bit scared about getting replaced with Bucky. If he stayed small, they would forget that he was ever an Avenger and he couldn't let that happen.
"No, it wouldn't be hard at all, do you wish to turn back now?" The god asked quietly, though he had gotten the vibe that the child didn't want to be turned back. And the god couldn't blame the child as to why that was.
"Not now, I..I just want to experience one last cuddle fest, everyone loves me when I'm this size. I don't wanna grow back up and have them hate me again," Tony said sadly, as his insecurities made themselves known.
"I don't think you have anything to worry about any of them ever hating you. Despite your annoying demeanor, you are quite likable. You give so much without expecting anything in return, I can see why my brother is so fond of you," Loki replied kindly before he tapped a delayed spell on the child. It would return him to his adult state in a few days. Loki wasn't callous, he could see this is what the Man Of Iron needed.
Tony fell silent at that declaration as he hadn't known that Thor had truly liked him. If anything he thought the thunder god only tolerated him. He wasn't exactly sure what he was supposed to do with this newfound knowledge however. "Oh," he said quietly as what else could he honestly say.
"Are you ready to go back to your tower? I can assure you, that you have been missed," Loki told him after a brief moment of silence had gone on.
"I don't know how to get back, the adult side doesn't really come out anymore. And it's starting to fade away again," Tony said seriously, his furrowed eyebrows the only change that something was wrong. He was fighting hard to keep it, so he could remember where to go.
"Don't fight it, I won't hurt you little one. I will get you back," Loki told him gently before he redressed the child in his shirt.
"Kay, and I won't ever forget dat you helped me and I'll pay you back someday," Tony told him solemnly.
"I don't doubt it, but you owe me nothing child, it is I who is in your debts," the god replied cryptically.
Tony didn't understand what the Norse god meant by that and couldn't even ask him as he felt the last of his adult mindset fade away. He giggled as the child side came forth and he reached up with his hands. "Up pwease," He said happily.
"Of course," Loki replied fondly as he scooped up the child. "Shall we fly this time?" He asked the child kindly.
"Yeah, wets fwy!" Tony cheered as they suddenly appeared on the roof.
The Agardian grinned, as he took too the air, the child securely in his grasps as he flew over to Stark Tower. The flight wasn't long and in less then ten minutes Loki and Tony landed gently in an Alley way just next to the Tower. "Are you ready little one?" He asked softly.
"Yeah, I awe hungry," Tony told him seriously.
"I'm sure they have food for you already ready," Loki promised him before he disguised himself and headed into the tower lobby.
"Can I help you sir?" The guard as the front desk as a man walked in with a child in his arms.
"Yes, I've found this little one wandering at the park a few blocks from here. He has a tag on the back of his shirt that says; 'if lost return to Stark Tower'," Loki said casually, not even having to lie as there was indeed such a tag in the back of his shirt. He wanted to know which of the Avengers had done that, as they knew exactly what to expect from this human, child or adult.
"Hi Eawl," Tony chirped out as he gave the guard a wave.
"Tony, we've been looking everywhere for you, why did you run off kiddo?" He asked as he immediately reached for the child.
He was the head guard, so he was in the know, and even though this man had returned the child, no one ever did anything for free. And he wanted the boy in his arms before the Avengers came here and got the wrong idea or something.
"I was followin' N'tasha but she was fast," Tony told him seriously as he was passed over.
"I see," Earl replied softly before looked at one of the camera already knowing that the A.I. Was relaying the unspoken message.
"Bye bye," Tony told Loki as he relaxed in the guard's arm who held him to his chest.
"Bye-bye little one, no more running away okay?" Loki told him seriously.
"Kay!" Tony chirped out as the god turned to leave.
"Wait, don't you want you want your reward for finding him?" The guard asked a bit surprised that the man was leaving already. Most people would even be expecting it. Or wouldn't have returned the child, until they had gotten their reward. It was crazy what people did for money these days.
"No, we should not be rewarded for doing the right thing, it should be in our nature," Loki said before he disappeared through the door.
Tony watched the man leave, his little fingers tapping on his reactor. He couldn't wait to get a good look at it himself.
"He didn't do anything to you, did he?" Earl couldn't help but ask.
"No, he was nice," Tony told him brightly bas he looked around the empty lobby. "Do you fink dat Dey awe mad at me?" He asked softly.
"Not in the slightest," The guard promised him.
Tony hoped that Earl was right, as Howard he knew would have been livid.
§~§~§~§~§~Quinjet§~§~§~§~§~§~§~§~
"Oh God, how could this happen? What if someone snatched him up? I'll never forgive myself if something happened to him," Steve moaned out almost hysterically. They had picked up everyone after not finding even a trace of the little boy. Where had he gone?
"We need to tell the other James," Bucky said seriously, his fists tight in his frustration at the whole situation. He was terrified for the little boy.
"And Pepper," Bruce said quietly, not allowing himself to feel the anger that he desperately wanted too. It wouldn't help the situation at present, and he didn't know how the Hulk would react when he found out Tony wasn't here.
"J.A.R.V.I.S. Can you call Rhodes and tell him of the situation?" Clint said after a moment.
"There is no longer a situation, my young creator is in the lobby of the tower," The A.I. Informed them.
"What? Did he walk back himself?" Steve asked him disbelief.
"No, he was brought back by an older gentleman," The A.I. Replied truthfully.
"How did he know to bring him to the tower?" Bucky asked suspiciously before Natasha could voice the question herself. It was a little suspicious, because they hadn't said that the boy was missing. Was somebody watching them?
"James Rhodes, is very thorough. If you get the chance go grab one of my creator's shirts and look inside, it will have information on what is to be done if he is found," J.A.R.V.I.S. told them honestly.
"I mean I saw the tag on a shirt but I don't think anything of it. Damn has this happened before?" Clint asked in amusement.
"Quite a few times," J.A.R.V.I.S. informed them.
Steve was shaking a bit, in his chair as the adrenaline started to wind down. He had been so scared that something was going to happen to Tony. He just needed to see the little boy with his own eyes and hold him in his arms. The quinjet couldn't get back to the tower soon enough for him.
"Can you have the guard escort Tony up to the highest floor the man can go? I don't want to go all the way down and come up," Steve asked Jarvis. He honestly didn't think he would be able to emotionally, he felt drained and tired.
"I'll get him Steve," Bucky said easily, just wanting to hold the child in his hands. As the jet landed on landing pad, he climbed down from the ramp and briskly walked towards the stairs. He took the steps 3 at a time, until he made his way to the ground floor.
Tony was playing a game on one of the monitors though he looked up when he saw the door to the staircase open. He smiled widely, before he carefully stood on the chair and held his arms out. "Up pwease," He said childishly.
"Why did you leave the tower bug?" Bucky asked as he scooped up the child and hugged him tightly to his chest for a moment. He had been terrified that he would never see this boy again. It had been a very Scary experience, one that he didn't want to repeat.
"N'tasha was weaving and I wanted her to stay, I was scawed dat she wasn't gonna come back," Tony told him truthfully.
"Oh bug, she was, she just needed to some space to cool down," Bucky told him truthfully before he headed for the elevator. Normally he hated taking it but right now, he was more interested in hearing Tony talk about what he had gone through. "Did anyone hurt you? Why do you keep tapping the reactor? Does it hurt again?" He asked worriedly, knowing he would need to tell the Doctor about this.
"It doesn't huwt anymowe, he fixed me," Tony said childishly.
"Who fixed you?" Bucky asked quietly, his body going rigid at the implications of the child's words.
"I can't tell you, you might get mad. But he made all my owwies go away," Tony told him proudly.
"Can I see?" Bucky asked softly, worried beyond belief now.
"Yeah," Tony said before he pulled up his shirt to show the reactor settled on unblemished skin. "And wook, I can bweathe deep now," he said before he took a deep breath to prove his point.
"Jarvis, can you scan him please?" Bucky croaked out, not even noticing when they arrived at the common floor.
"Of course," J.A.R.V.I.S. replied, though truthfully he had already been doing so. He also wanted to make sure there was no ill effects.
"Bruce, Tony says someone fixed him, and all of his scars are gone, and I'm worried because I don't know who has the power to do this," Bucky said tightly as he stepped out of the elevator to find all the remaining Avengers waiting for him.
"Where is Rhodey?" Tony asked out worriedly.
"I'm right here Tones, and I heard you had quite the adventure. Didn't we talk about you not leaving the tower without one of us?" Rhodey said as he came out of the kitchen, already reaching for the child.
"I went with N'tasha, it's not my fawlt dat she was wawking too fast for me," Tony said with a pout. He was not about to get into trouble.
"Mhm," Rhodey said before he dropped it. He wasn't about to punish the boy, he didn't think he could at the moment anyway. Because the child had a point, whether he liked it or not.
Bucky had released the child immediately to the other James, taking that time to completely pull off the boy's T-shirt. "Look at his chest, when I bathed him last week, it was full of scars and it was inflamed. Now it just looks like, the reactor is sitting on top of his chest. I actually feel like I could take it out and there wouldn't be any ill effects. I won't but look at it," Bucky said tightly. He was worried for all of their sakes.
"The scan is complete and the young Sir is dare I say it, perfect. The pieces of shrapnel that had been so deadly close to coming in contact with his heart is gone. It's removed completely, and his lungs and heart have been healed as well. The reactor no longer sits in his chest cavity, but just on top of the chest, and it will not cause him any pain," J.A.R.V.I.S. informed them.
"Who the hell do we know that has the power to do this?" Steve asked his voice a little choked as he Processed all the information that he had been given.
"Tony told me that the pieces of shrapnel was too deep and to delicate for any operation to take it out, that to do such an operation he had a higher chance of death then survival,"Rhodey said quietly before he looked at the little boy in his arms. "Who saved you Tones?"
"You're gonna be mad at me if I tell you," Tony said with a frown.
"No I'm not, they didn't hurt you, but they fixed what was causing you pain. Fixed what we could not, I just want to thank them," Rhodey told him seriously.
"Kay," Tony said with a small smile. He guessed that was okay. "Loki, Pwince Of Asgawd saved me," the tiny tot chirped before he wiggled to get down. He didn't notice how the adults around him suddenly stilled in place at his words. He made his way over to the archer and tugged on his leg.
"What is it kiddo?" Clint asked quietly, his heart hammering quite fast in his chest but knowing he needed to stay calm for the child.
"Can I haff my Mac and cheese now?" He asked out hopefully.
"Of course kiddo, come on let me get it warmed up for you," Clint said before he grabbed the little boy's hand and led him to the kitchen.
Steve waited until Tony was out of the room, before he turned to look at the rest of his teammates. "Does anyone know how to get in contact with Thor?" He asked quietly.
"I honestly think that Heimdell is watching us right now, and I feel that if we just yelled out for Thor, he would get the message. Though that's just an educated guess on my part," Bruce said quietly.
"I vote one of you do the summoning, I'm not about to yell up to the sky for a god I barely even know. I need some more Tony cuddles," Rhodey said as he gave them all a look before he hurried into the kitchen.
"Since it was your idea, I'm going to agree with the other James," Bucky said with a grin before he quickly made his way to the kitchen as well.
"Don't look at me, I'm not going to be the moron yelling at the sky," Natasha said with a smirk before she walked into the kitchen.
"Rock, paper, scissors?" Steve said weakly as he realized that only he and Bruce were left.
Bruce shook his head in amusement but he nodded as he held out his hand.
§~§~§~§Friday Night§~§~§~§~§~§~§~
Tony sighed happily as he looked around the bustling kitchen that was on the common room. The Fantastic Four, were back in town and after letting Fury know that they would be ignoring any calls tonight the superhero's had settled down.
He had finally gotten to swim with them and it felt awesome. The little boy was currently sitting on the couch with his Bucky Bear plushie while the other Avengers got all the food and snacks ready for movie night.
He was super excited to eat, as they had allowed him to pick what he Had wanted to eat. He had chosen pizza and he couldn't wait to eat it. Not to mention all of the other snacks and desserts he would get to try. The tot felt like he was in literal heaven right now.
"What are we watching Tones?" Rhodey asked curiously as he took a seat on one side of the child.
"A weally scawy movie," Tony said seriously.
"Like what?" Bucky asked a little warily. He didn't want the child having any nightmares.
"Monstew house, I wanna watch that one," Tony said seriously.
"Okay," Rhodey replied easily.
"Wait is it scary? We don't want to give him nightmares," Steve said with a frown.
"It's rated PG, and it's not scary, it might have a little bit of thrills for him, but it's harmless. And he's seen it before," Bruce said easily.
"Oh okay," Bucky said with a sigh of relief. Well there was that then, the soldier moved over to get himself some dinner.
Tony moved to take a bite of his pizza, glancing over to see what everyone else was eating. He looked curiously at Natasha's plate, as she had what looked like some kind of noodles with meat and sauce. He sniffed and it smelled really yummy. He wanted to try some but he knew better then to ask, as he already had something else on his own plate.
"What is it love? Did you want to try some?" Natasha asked the child kindly. She could see the way he was looking at her food. She didn't even have to be a spy to see the longing in his eyes.
"I don't know, I nevew had dat, what is it is?" Tony asked bravely, as he set his plate to the side so he could scoot closer to her on the couch.
"Beef Stroganoff, it's really good," Natasha told the child easily.
"It smells yummy," Tony admitted out, not wanting to admit that he wanted some too.
"Taste this sweetie, tell me what you think," Natasha said as she got some on her fork and held it out to the child to taste.
Tony didn't need anymore convincing and quickly opened up his mouth so she couldn't change her mind. He closed his eyes as it was spooned into his mouth, a smile appearing a second later. "It tastes yummy too," he said softly before he turned to grab his pizza.
He didn't really want pizza anymore, but it wasn't like he could take her food. She had let him taste but that was different from actually sharing. He was still wary of asking for things from them.
Natasha smiled sadly before she headed into the kitchen to grab a toddler bowl and fork before coming back to the living room. She felt a little bit saddened that Tony still didn't like to voice what he wanted but didn't call the child on it. She knew what that was like. She simply spooned a child's sized portion of her stroganoff into the bowl and set it down on the table in front of the child.
"I don't mind sharing with you sweetie, that's for you," she told him kindly before she went back to her food, keeping an eye on him to see what he would do.
Tony opened his mouth in disbelief before he set his pizza back down and hurriedly settled on his knees In of the front of coffee table so he could eat his stroganoff. "Fanks N'tasha," He chirped out.
"Anything for you love," she replied easily before she grabbed her bowl and laughed at the disgruntled expression on her partners face.
"Just let me get some Natasha, don't be like that," Clint moaned out dramatically, giving the child a wink.
Tony giggled before he returned to his noodles. It was so good, he could see why Clint was complaining.
"I asked if you wanted me to make you some, you said no, this is mine. I'm not sharing," Natasha said with a grin.
"But you shared with the kidlet," Clint pointed out with a pout hoping his partner would be swayed.
"I did, but he's a kid, what's your excuse?" Natasha said with a smirk.
Clint only pouted harder at that, as he couldn't think of an excuse. "You're being a dick Tasha," he finally grumbled out.
Tony broke out into almost hysterical giggles as that didn't make any sense. "How can she be a dick, if she doesn't got a penis?" He asked innocently, reminding everyone that there were still impressionable ears around. Steve in particular was quite horrified at the words that came out of Tony's mouth.
"Run Barton," Steve said a little too calmly.
Clint was a little worried but not so much as everyone else was laughing as well. The archer felt that as long Tony didn't say anything else in regards to this topic he would be safe. However when he turned to look at the boy, he could have groaned. What was the child doing now?
"Do you need to use the potty?" Bucky asked immediately when he saw the child grab his crotch.
"No," Tony said before he leaned back and reached over to innocently pat Natasha's crotch as well.
"Tony what are you doing?" Steve choked out in a scandalous tone, half standing up in his chair. This was new whatever this was and he wasn't sure he liked where his thoughts were heading to. Where had this behavior come from?
"Bug, we don't touch people there, that's their private area," Bucky told the little boy lightly, his eyes flickering over to Natasha, who looked to be holding back a laugh.
"I know, but I was making suwe she didn't haff boy pawts, cause Cwint said she was a dick. And she still doesn't have a penis wike me," he informed them seriously, his eyebrows furrowing his confusion.
"Barton Run," Steve repeated before he got up and started chasing after the archer who had a sense of self preservation to get a head start on the Captain.
Natasha was unable to help the snort that escaped her turning to look at Bruce in shared amusement, fanning her face that was getting hot from holding in her laughter.
"Jarvis did you get all that?" Bruce asked calmly, fighting hard to keep the amusement from his tone, knowing he failed.
"Yes Doctor, what should I do with it?" .V.I.S asked in amusement.
"Save that file, and put it somewhere safe. I want to be present when you show that to Iron Man," Bruce said with a sly look.
"I'm definitely going to be there," Rhodey said, eyes filled with mirth.
"I want to be there too," Bucky said with a grin as he turned back to the cause of their amusement.
Tony wasn't sure why everyone was giggling but he was glad that everyone was happy. He turned back to his dinner, wishing that it could always be like this.
"Finish your food buddy, I want some more Tony cuddles," Rhodey said fondly.
"I'm awmost done," the little boy chirped out.
"Good, I call next," Bucky said with a straight face.
Tonys eyes flickered from his to the other adults who were nodding in agreement. This, he decided was the end to a perfect day.
