Chapter 9: Go to the Water

'Go to the water…'

Yami heard the voice echo in his head as he laid by the small river, sword still in his hand. 'The water will give you power.' the voice continued. Yami started crawling to the water as the red campers cheered their supposed victory next to him. He reached his hand out and let the tips of his fingers touch the water, and suddenly he felt the water slowly run up his body.

As the water ran its course it touched each scratch and bruise Yami had gotten, the young teen felt the pain subside as the wounds healed with the water's touch.

Chiron watched with pride as all of the campers and joey watched in awe.

The water fell from Yami's face as he began to feel more energized, more focused on everything around him. The red team brought up their swords and shields since they now knew the game was not over. Yugi looked at the boy before him, the boy she had assumed she beat stand ready before them all. Bakura ran up to the gathered campers with a large grin on his face as he watched.

Yami smirked at the opposing team as he felt like he knew he could take each and every one of them. He started walking to the red team and swung his sword as the first camper walked up to him. Their swords clashed and while the camper was distracted Yami elbowed him in the side of the head, causing him to crash down. The next camper he elbowed hard in the shoulder and the third camper he swiped his feet out from under him with his sword. Yami's confidence grew as the next two had tried a go at him but he knocked them down quickly. Yugi took a chance and was about to run up to Yami when she was stopped as he quickly pointed his sword at her.

Yugi looked at the sword in front of her and back at Yami before she quickly reacted. She swung her sword, knocking his sword back as she swung around and tried to get him but Yami kept dodging each swing. They clashed swords once and Yami tried to grab hers but she was too quick. The second time, however, Yami finally got the upper hand and grabbed her sword, moving her sword behind her neck and pointed his sword at her once more.

Yugi stared at him in wonder, because how could this guy in front of him beat her? A child of Athena?

Yami looked into her violet eyes as he moved the sword from behind her and took a step back, holding the handle out to her, which Yugi took.

Yami looked at the smirk on Bakura's face as he turned towards the flag he began to walk over to it. He held his arms out as a challenge to any of the red team members that wanted to have another go at him. He walked through the campers around the flag and looked at it proudly. He staked his sword in the ground and picked up the post holding the red flag. Yami held it high in the air as the blue soldiers cheered for him.

The blue soldiers worked their way through the reds as they went to congratulate their team members. Bakura shouted and grinned at Yami as he held his sword towards him.

"Yea, Yams!" Joey shouted across the water, as Chiron nodded to him and held his own staff high.

Later into the evening all of the campers, still wearing their team's colors they all surrounded a bonfire as they ate dinner. Someone was spinning a pig above a small fire as the campers were standing and goofing around the bonfire.

"Excuse me! Excuse me!" Joey shouted as he led Yami over to the drink and food table. "Ladies and gentlemen, the son of Poseidon is coming through. A hero is coming through! Move it! Hey," he pointed at a red camper, "no dirty looks. Stop that."

The boys finally got to the table and saw three beautiful girls wearing dresses, one a redhead, one a blonde, and the other a brunette.

"Hey, Yami?" the redhead grabbed his attention. "Um, we're having a party at our place later."

"And we would really love it if you came." The blonde finished.

Yami looked at them wide-eyed, not believing in his wildest dreams a girl, let alone three, would be talking to him. "I'd love to come. That'd be great."

"That would be amazing!" The brunette said, looking at the other two excitedly.

"Awesome!"

"I would love to come, too, to the party," Joey said, making the air a little awkward. "You know? Thanks for invintin' me, ladies."

"Excuse me, nymphs." A voice broke through, Yugi smiled at the three girls as she made her way to the table.

The three girls looked saddened and started to walk away as joey followed behind them.

"Wait, don't leave. Ladies… I'm available." Joey stated, "Wait, come on, don't leave. I'm available! What time's the party?"

"Feeling like a hero?" Yugi said after Joey was gone. She looked up at Yami with a smile.

Yami scoffed, grabbing food for his plate. "More like a mutant. I'm not gonna grow a fishtail or gills or anything like that, am I?"

"Not likely. " Yugi tried not to laugh, her whole demeanor changed once they were off the field. She seemed approachable. "Although as huge ego isn't out of the question."

Yami looked at her with amusement as they walked into the crowd. "You know you could have killed me out there? I could have died if I was normal."

"But you aren't." She stated like everyone else who is trying to convince Yami on who he is.

"I get the sense that you don't like me very much." Yami looked at her, hoping her answer was going to be no.

"It's possible," her voice seemed a little… sad? Yami wasn't sure as to why. "I mean, our parents hate each other."

He looked at Yugi confused as they stopped a little bit away from the fire. "Wait, they do?"

The shorter girl nodded. "I definitely have strong feelings for you. I just haven't decided if they're positive or negative yet."

Yami looked a little shocked but gave her a small smile, "Well you let me know when you figure that out."

"You'll be the first."

They both raised their glasses to each other in a silent toast, but as they were about to take a drink the bonfire exploded.
