Inuyasha Chapter Ten
8/19/20
Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha...
"Tell me about Inuyasha," Niko spoke, surprising Kagome
They'd walked for two days without Niko talking, she assumed the lead. Kagome was worried for her friend, no words they spoke gave any indication they were helping. To hear her speak about the one person that wasn't there, was a bit startling.
"What do you want to know?" Kagome asked
"Who is he? You haven't spoken much of him." Niko spoke still looking forward
"Normally he speaks for himself, he's boisterous. Not having him around has been, different." Kagome spoke missing her friend, his get it done nature was lacking from their group
"He's the loud one?" Niko smirked
"Oh yeah, doesn't like to take breaks. Hell, the only thing he likes to stop for is food. With us being this close, I doubt he'd stop! He's been that way ever since I met him, I doubt he'll change."
"Why isn't he here then?"
"He got sick when we got to this land, he didn't think it was anything important. But when we met up with an old friend it's when his demon blood is fighting is human blood." Kagome spoke
"So, he's a half-demon?"
"Yes."
"I've had several members of my pack go through what you're speaking of. If his will to live is strong, he will survive this."
"That's what I'm worried about, his life hasn't been an easy one."
"That's all the more reason to keep fighting, to change the path he has been set on."
"I hope that's right."
"Is he the one you thought you loved?"
Looking over to her, Kagome couldn't believe the conversation at hand. "Yeah, I thought it was; but, it never was. I thought that it was, he was always striving to be with someone else. I was on the sidelines, it got tiring being the third wing. It was a slow process to get over him, however, that all changed when I got to know Sesshomaru. The few moments we've had, I've never felt anything like that."
"You better hold onto that," Niko spoke solemnly, Kagome could tell she was missing her mate at this moment. "I will do everything I need to destroy that bastard and see to it that you and Sesshomaru have the largest ceremony for your mating."
"You don't-."
"Yes, something good has to come from all the negative this bastard half-demon has caused."
Kagome nodded, letting her have the last word. Sango joined them, talking a little about everything.
It felt nice to have some normalcy back to the quest at hand, even with their friend not there. Niko was a subdued version of him like she'd say: she was older and wiser. Kagome could tell that when Niko asked of their missing link, Sesshomaru would listen in. He'd never admit to it, but he also wanted to know more about his younger brother. Kagome would smile at him, knowing some of what Niko asked was what he wondered. Time moved slowly for the group, moving slowly through the new land. Kagome kept up on the journal, with each member of their group helping each other prepare. Whether it be mentally or physically, they made sure to be there for each other.
It had been nearly six months now that they'd arrived at the new land, with only the one sighting of Naraku they'd seen and heard no more of him. They traced his name to the village after village, helping those they could or preparing burials for those lost. Kagome could feel the battle coming, slowly anxiety grew each day. Each day spent with the ones she loved most, except for one.
They'd heard nothing of Inuyasha's health, holding onto the fact that he was as stubborn as the next demon. Yet, no news this time around wasn't good news to Kagome who was worried sick about her friend. Even with him no longer being a love interest, with his asshole tendencies, he held the place as her best friend. Kagome could tell Niko was rooting for their friend, even though she'd never met him.
Niko had directed them to a neighboring village, stating it was an alliance and old friend. She spoke of them being hospitable, making sure that if she was in the area to stop by. Traveling all day, they arrived at a small village filled with rice fields. It looked like there was only one hut at the far fields, Kagome asked why there was only one hut. Niko replied that only certain people understood this friend of hers, this only gave Kagome a small insight into what they were getting into.
"Oi, Jimin get out here!" Niko yelled halfway through the fields
"Is that necessary?" Sesshomaru asked, clearly annoyed at the shouting
"Oh yeah, she gets lost in her work. There's always a lot to do, she's the only one around this area."
"Why? There were huts back there, are they older folks?" Sango asked
"No, they just don't understand her. Plus, anyone who makes contact with her they ostracize them." Niko explained
"We are used to that," Miroku spoke up
Kagome and Sango smirked, their group no matter how much good they did, were outsiders. Maybe that was due to the outlandish outfits, the demons, and half-demons that were a part of the group. Kagome smiled fondly at the thought of her group, they'd now been away for over six months.
"Niko, my friend!" Kagome looked up to see a large woman exiting the hut, now that they were closing in on the hut it was much larger than perceived. "You have brought friends with you!"
"Yes, I know it has been a long time. How have you been?"
"I have been doing good, you know that. What brings you all the way here?" Jimin spoke all the while smiling
"Have you heard of a half-breed terrorizing the lands?" Niko asked
"Yes. Just recently I had to protect my village. They sent me gifts, they have even visited me and two of them have helped to treat my wounds."
"You're still injured?" Niko asked concerned
"No, I have healed up now. They were very kind, what do you know of the half-demon that attacked us?"
"My friends are looking to hunt him down, they have been tortured and relentlessly pestered by him. They have made a great journey to get here, they are preparing every day for their final battle." Niko answered
"He is strong, it took everything from me to defend my people. He wasn't trying his best; he was just toying with me! He has no care for life, it is just a toy that is getting old!" Jimin spoke, Kagome could hear the sorrow and fear in her
"We are going to end him, he said we have to wait for him. He has no idea what he's in for when that time comes." Sango spoke, earning nods from her companions.
"What can I do to help you?" Jimin asked
"Can we stay here for a couple of days? We need a roof over our heads and baths!" Niko asked, almost begging.
Kagome smiled; her friend was not used to 'roughing it'. She'd never had to sleep under the stars, Kagome was jealous of her friend. This had been enough camping to last her the rest of her lifetime! Hearing that Jimin would let them stay, they helped prepare her home for the lot of them.
Not complaining, it was a tad bit cramped though. Jimin wasn't a small demon, she was like Jinenji. However, Jimin was full blood, she was just too different from the other demons in this area. She was pure white, head to toe. There was just a different aura, she was extremely different from Niko. Kagome smiled fondly; she knew what it was like to have a different aura compared to everyone else.
It was nice to relax some, even if they didn't let their guard down. Hot meals, hot baths, and a roof over their heads were just what their group needed. Never knowing what would happen the next day.
-X-
"Miroku, don't you dare!" Kagome yelled, moving to block a demon from going at Miroku
They had left after spending over a week at Jimin's home, they had to restock their supplies. Jimin was more than welcome to show Kagome how she dehydrated her meat, along with teaching her about some of the herbs that could be found in this region. Sesshomaru took this time to keep working with Kagome and her swordsmanship, it was helping.
It was now or never to prove how much each of them had grown. It had started as a normal day, slowly into the middle of the afternoon things started to get dark. At first, it appeared that it had the chance of rain, that was before Sesshomaru smelled the aura of Naraku. Continuing with heightened senses, before the swarm came. It was unlike anything they'd ever dealt with, even though they knew it was coming nothing could prepare them for this.
That was where they were, Miroku had lost his staff and caused him to have a deep gash in his left arm. Kagome was the only one to notice that he'd been taken down, their group had been separated. Kagome had worked her way to Miroku, feeling that something had happened. Placing up a small barrier, she tourniquet the arm.
"Can you place up a barrier?" Kagome asked
"Yes, Lady Kagome." Miroku spoke
"I'll be back soon, take care of yourself. I'm sorry-."
"Don't be, I know that healing takes a large portion of your energy. Take this bastard down, I'll be fine."
Kagome sighed, before going back to attacking the demons. She wasn't sure how they were going to make it; she knew that Naraku was trying to wear them down. He wanted them at their weakest, they all knew that.
Before leaving the protection barrier she had located the others in her group. Naraku had gotten them apart and was keeping them apart, there wasn't any way to get back together. Using her sword, even though she'd been practicing, she was still a novice. It was showing, as Kagome was starting to become overwhelmed.
"Oi, wench watch your back!" Kagome stopped suddenly, hearing that voice. "Stop being a dumbass, keep fighting!"
Kagome smiled as Inuyasha came to stand behind her, taking out the demon. "Are you okay?" Kagome asked
"I'm better than ever. You're hard to keep track of, you guys have been busy!" Inuyasha spoke
"We couldn't wait around for you, couldn't have you slowing us down," Kagome smirked
Inuyasha barked out a laugh, "I was just waiting for you to find this bastard, so I could have some fun."
"Yeah, okay." Kagome smiled, "I'm glad you're here."
"Me too Kags." Fighting their way to the others of their group.
"Inuyasha!" Sango spoke happily once they finally reached them.
"Brother," Sesshomaru announced
"That's the connection to him! You tricky bastard!" Niko shouted, at Sesshomaru
"Oi, who the hell are you?" Inuyasha shouted back
"I'm Niko! You must be the bastard Inuyasha." Niko smirked
"Oi!"
"Okay, we have other matters at hand." Sango spoke
"Yes, you do." That voice they all wanted to hear; the rest of his demons back off allowing them to form together.
"Where's Miroku?" Sango asked quickly
"He's in a barrier, his arm was injured. I wouldn't let him use his wind tunnel; he's rather pissed off." Kagome answered her friend
"Inuyasha…" Naraku spoke chuckling "Back with your group finally, had to go find your corpse before meeting with me this last time?"
Inuyasha smirked and chuckled, "Don't give yourself that satisfaction, I was becoming stronger to kill you, you bastard."
"Still as cocky as ever, what makes you think you can defeat me now. You've never come close!" Naraku started to cackle, the madness showing.
"He's gone mad!" Sango whispered harshly
"When you use the power of the jewel shard for impure wants and power, no matter how strong you think you are it will take over at some point," Sesshomaru spoke
"This ends; here and now!" Kagome spoke firmly
"There is no other choice but to do that." Niko spoke
"What are we waiting for?" Inuyasha asked, stretching his fingers ready for the fight
"We will wait for him to attack, let us see what his attack will be."
No sooner than Sesshomaru said this did Naraku charge at them with his barrage of demons. This was how it was going to be, Naraku's focus was on Inuyasha and Kagome. No matter what the rest of the group did, they couldn't seem to help their friends. Yes, they were holding their own. They weren't sure how long they could last against; all they could do was keep fighting off the rest of the demons that were trying to interfere.
"Inuyasha, are you growing weak?" Naraku laughed, as he smacked Inuyasha away leaving Kagome standing up to him.
"You should have taken the power when you could have Inuyasha, you are weak and will always be weak. Then you have you, Miko."
"Yeah, what about me?"
"Who would have thought that a human could travel through time?" Naraku spoke halting all movement on the battlefield
"What are you talking about?" Kagome asked trying to mask her surprise
"You have a nice family; your mother is a wonderful person. She didn't say anything nasty, that grandfather of yours is a nasty little thing."
Kagome stood still; her worst fear was happening. This evil man found out her deepest secret, the one she had worked so hard to contain.
"I always knew there was something off about you, figuring it out took me all these years." Naraku turned to motion a cage forward, it took a moment before Kagome realized who was in it. "I've kept them all this time."
"Kagome!" She heard the voices she thought she never would again
"Mom? Gramps?" Kagome whispered out, looking harder to where they were
"Did you miss them little Miko?" Naraku
Kagome stood there staring at her loved ones, she couldn't believe it. "Kagome, you need to snap out of it." Inuyasha spoke by her side, trying to get her to get it together
"They're alive 'Yasha." Kagome spoke
"They only live if you beat me, if you die- they become my puppets."
Kagome could feel herself spike, it felt as if it was surrounding her. "Kagome, don't! Don't let this monster control your emotions, I know you can do it darling." Kagome's mother yelled, knowing what this monstrosity could do.
Taking a deep breath, she used the control breathing technique Sesshomaru showed her. "You're right mom. We're ending this now." Kagome looked to the demon in front of her
"You're going down scum." Inuyasha nodded to Kagome
Throwing everything they had, Sesshomaru had joined them at the front. Kagome was feeling the effects of fighting for this long, she was trying to fight off the tired feeling. "Are you fine Miko?" Kagome heard Sesshomaru ask while Naraku was distracted with Inuyasha
"I'm getting tired, we have to get this over with." Kagome spoke, Sesshomaru could hear how tired her voice was
"He's tiring as well; it should be soon." Kagome sighed, taking the moment to recharge. Taking this moment, she could see Sesshomaru breathing hard now. It was hardly noticeable, yet she could see it.
Not getting a chance to look long, Naraku came back at them harder than ever. It was noticeable that he was slowly creating a path just for Kagome, separating her from the two demons. Soon, it was just Naraku facing her.
"My dear, you do look tired." Naraku laughed
"I'm just fine." Kagome growled trying to keep dodging him, except when he threw too many tentacles for her to dodge. Feeling one of them go through her abdomen, then lifted up to see the battlefield. Gasping for air, trying to control her powers yet she couldn't feel anything except for the pain.
"Kagome!" She could hear from different voices, yet the only one she could focus on was Sesshomaru's
"You see, Miko, this was never going to end differently. The target was always going to be you, the one that never fit here."
"You son of a bitch!" Inuyasha yelled
"You said it yourself Inuyasha, she doesn't belong here." Naraku taunted him
"That was a long time ago, I don't know what I'd do without her!"
"I guess you will find out now!" Kagome tried to say something, yet nothing happened.
"It is over now; you cannot beat me!" Naraku screamed manically throwing Kagome to the side
Seeing Sango come to her side, and her take her hand she wanted to say anything to comfort her friend. Seeing her tears fall, which was very unlike her friend she was the last face she saw as everything went dark.
-X-
Kagome opened her eyes, seeing nothing familiar. Nothing even felt familiar. Looking down, the hole in her stomach was replaced with the intended parts.
"Hello?" Kagome spoke out, wondering what she would find
Hearing nothing, she began to walk around. Nothing changed, the same pale colors surrounded her. Thinking back to the battle, she started to think about what could have changed. Was it something that she had done wrong? If only she had started to train sooner, maybe that could have made a difference. She already missed her friends, she missed Sesshomaru. Knowing that this could have happened to any one of them, yet she'd hoped the kami was on their side. Sighing, she sat down. Tired of walking this useless plane, there wasn't anyone there and she had no clue what to do.
Growling out, that turned into a yell. Letting everything she felt out, and then some felt amazing! Letting the stress that she'd been feeling, it felt nice to finally let it all out.
-X-
"You bastard, you will pay for that!" Niko screamed
"What will you puny demons do? She was the only one that could defeat me. Now, I can become the most powerful demon of all time."
"I'm tired of you thinking you are all-powerful! The only thing you're good at is being a maniac!" Inuyasha yelled in retaliation
"You will die, you killed this one's love." Sesshomaru growled, his inner demon surfacing
"Oh, so the all-powerful lord of the Western lands does have a heart." Naraku provoked, not anticipating the coming moves. Before he knew it, Sesshomaru was at his throat. Naraku's surprised face pleased Sesshomaru, he could tell his group was helping to keep the tentacles Naraku was throwing his way from impaling him.
"Do not ever patronize me, you bastard." Sesshomaru's eyes glowing red
"You can't kill me, only those of pure hearts can. Trust me, I know an impure soul like no other. I will keep tormenting you forever, for you can't kill me."
-X-
Kagome sat, lost in her own mind. Starting from the first time she went down the well, no matter it was for the fact she was pulled in, to the final battle. Something flickered in front of her, losing her focus on times she was alive. Watching as if a tv formed in front of her eyes, allowing her to see the battleground. Watching Naraku taunt her friends, then the speed at which Sesshomaru moved then grasped Naraku's neck. Watching fearfully of her love face her killer head-on, watching him call her his love pained her heart more. Sango had left her body to help Niko and Inuyasha, fight off the same weapons from Naraku's body that killed her.
"Are you stupid Sesshomaru? Are you trying to kill yourself?" Kagome screamed, that damn bastard. "Don't kill yourself, you have to keep my brother safe!" Turning away from what was happening, she couldn't watch Sesshomaru die! She was barely handling herself being dead, let alone watching someone she loved die too.
Kagome felt hopeless, this was not how she wanted things to end! They were supposed to win, she'd hoped without casualties. Yes, some wounds, yet not this!
"You truly want to go back?" She heard from behind her starling her, turning quickly she saw figures standing behind her
"What's it to you? Who are you?"
"Ah, silly one. We are the ones watching over you, we came together when we saw that it was the final battle."
Kagome rolled her eyes, they continued to be vague. Noticing one figure step forward, it was a feminine figure. Before her eyes, it was Midoriko the next figure stepped up beside her it was a demon. She couldn't place why he looked so familiar.
"Wow, now I know I've really died." Kagome laughed "I thought you were stuck in the jewel shard?"
"That doesn't mean that my mind hasn't passed on, only my spirit remains in that world."
"Oh, wow." Kagome nodded, looking back behind her to see the fighting continuing
"You care deeply for the older boy there." The man spoke
"Yeah, we were planning on becoming mates after this." She could see how close Sesshomaru was to go to his true form. "He's going to get himself killed if he transforms." Kagome spoke softly
"He was going to mate a human?" The man spoke, his voice let Kagome know that he was shocked
"Yeah, the first time he met me he tried to kill me." Kagome laughed "A lot has changed in the time I've been here."
"He's grown from the troubled adolescent." Kagome turned to look at the man
"You knew him then?"
"I would hope so, I was the one to try and change him. Except what kid listens to their parent?" The man smiled when he saw Kagome's shocked expression. "I take it you know who I am now."
"Yeah, Lord Tōgo. Inuyasha's and Sesshomaru's father. The same goes for you, I thought you were dead. Well passed on to the afterworld." Kagome spoke
"Doesn't mean that I haven't been watching my boys. The way Inuyasha has been acting-."
"You didn't cause it, so don't go there. Is there anything we can do to help them?" Kagome asked
"Yeah, but it will forever change you. Is that something you can deal with?" Midoriko asked
"I will do whatever it takes, they need me. We have to end this, it's clear they need me."
"Very well, we better start." Midoriko spoke, turning to leave where they were. They followed her, not understanding what they had to start.
-X-
"Sesshomaru, you need to control yourself! You don't need to kill yourself; it won't fix the problem we have at hand!" Inuyasha yelled, knowing how difficult it was at this moment not to change into the feral form
"Fuck off 'Yasha," Sesshomaru spoke, his voice deep showing how close he was to transforming
"Inuyasha, what can we do to help him?" Niko spoke next to him
"I don't know. I've never seen him fight like this or act this way. He is always in control, never a hair out of place." Inuyasha answered, he in truth was terrified of what would happen if this didn't end. Miroku had caught up with them, his injury had stopped bleeding. He had moved Kagome's body away from the battlefield, which Inuyasha was grateful for. Miroku was now getting Kagome's family, the damn monk was able to get them out. Inuyasha wasn't sure how he'd done it, he was thankful that they got them. Not stopping the one attack, Inuyasha flew back just lying there. He was tired, never admitting that out loud to anyone. Pushing his healing time, he knew that this really wasn't what he should be doing. If only Kagome had known, she'd have sat him to the other side of the world. Smiling at that thought, he missed her terribly already.
'Keep fighting 'Yasha!'
Inuyasha sat up quickly, that sounded like Kagome yelling at him. Yet, that couldn't be she was dead.
'Keep fighting 'Yasha!'
"Keh, I'm hearing shit now! Whatever!" Inuyasha scuffed, running back into the battle
Getting back to the battle, Inuyasha noticed how unstable Sesshomaru was. He was at that breaking point. Hearing the sound of a bow release, then the energy that followed stopped Inuyasha in his tracks. Looking at the source, he wasn't sure how to react. He knew everyone stopped in their tracks, there on the hill where Miroku moved Kagome's body to, stood Kagome. There wasn't a hole where it previously was, there was a different aura. Before realizing it was another aura, stepping out beside Kagome was his father.
"How?" They heard Naraku gasp out, "You should not have survived that, I-."
Kagome smirked; he was thrown off guard. Looking up to Tōgo, they nodded to each other. Tōgo grabbed Kagome by the waist jumping down, joining the others on the battlefield. Sesshomaru was by her side immediately, not caring about who was standing beside his Miko. Sesshomaru drew her in pulling her close, afraid to release her.
"Are you real Kagome?"
"Very much, Midoriko sent us back to end this. She figured an extra set of hands wouldn't hurt." Kagome spoke hugging him back, relishing the feeling of feeling again. "There are no second chances now, there is no going back. We are the ones that have to end this."
Sesshomaru nodded, pulling away. Nodding to the man beside Kagome, not giving him anything
"Good to see you to son. You heard your lady, go finish this with your brother. I will make sure to keep everything away from all of you." Sesshomaru glared at the man, before lifting Kagome and going over to Inuyasha
"Is that really our father?" Inuyasha asked as they landed, keeping an eye on Naraku
"Now is not the time to figure that out." Sesshomaru spoke annoyed
"It is." Kagome argued
"How do you know it's not an imposter?"
"Because he was with Midoriko, that's how I know." Kagome defended
"Can you finish this later?" Niko yelled, slicing another demon down
"Yes." Kagome smile
"Welcome back." Niko smiled before beheading another demon
"Welcome back Kagome!" Sango smiled on Kirara, having her hiraikotsu return to her
Kagome smiled at her, turning to the boys. "We have to hit him together and with everything we have. I got this second chance to finish this, I won't have another one." Kagome spoke solemnly
"You bet Kags. It's now or never." Inuyasha got into his trademark stance
"Hn." Sesshomaru agreed ready to pick up Kagome
"Don't worry about me, that is one of the perks I gained. Go, I will do what is needed." Not ready to leave her side, he nodded letting her call the shots this time
Watching them start to charge Naraku, Naraku starting to worry. What she wanted, she watched the duo carefully, seeing that they were preparing. Hearing Inuyasha start yelling, it was her turn. Pulling an arrow, she focused everything just Midoriko told her. She saw that moment, releasing her arrow knowing it would hit just how it needed.
"No! NO!" Naraku started to scream yet, their group had him blocked off. He couldn't run, he took the full attack. The explosion that came was unexpected, Kagome placed a barrier around Naraku letting him feel the brunt of it. Waiting for the smoke to disperse, Kagome had walked up to the edge of the barrier with her group.
Once the smoke had gone, Kagome looked and saw Naraku laying on the ground panting. Lowing the barrier, she could hear the struggle in his breathing. "This was not how it was supposed to end!" Naraku spoke, it was hard to understand as he had a gurgle
"When you're so set for power, this is exactly how it will end." Kagome spoke over the top of him, "With you, there is no one to save you this time. It is time for you to pay for your crimes." Kagome bent down, picking up the jewel out of his chest. Having him grab her arm, startled her.
"You can't let me die!"
"I can." Kagome let some of her powers to her arm, eliciting a cry from the man on the ground as his body went from partially degraded to dust
Kagome looked to the jewel, removing any impure thoughts. Feeling the jewel turn to that of its pure form. The battle was over, for once it really was over.
"My wind tunnel is gone!" Miroku yelled from a crossed the battlefield
Kagome smiled as Sango took off to him with Kirara following, embracing each other as they met.
"It's really over." Inuyasha spoke staring at the place Naraku once laid
"Yeah it is 'Yasha, it's finally over." Kagome spoke
Niko let out a large yell, startling the group. Ending her yell, she looked to the group. "My mate has been avenged, it felt great to just let off all the stress I've been feeling." Niko smiled explaining herself
"I know how that feels." Kagome smiled
"Kagome?" Kagome turned hearing her name and the voice she thought she'd never hear
"Momma?" Kagome smiled hurrying to her mother and gramps, pulling them into a hug starting to cry.
Everyone stood, allowing the Miko to have this moment with her family. At one point she'd thought she'd never see them again, then to have this mad man somehow get to them. They needed this moment, more than the rest of them. Sesshomaru stood back, watching his Miko relish in her family.
"It's sweet isn't Sesshomaru?" Tōgo spoke beside his son
"You're not real." Sesshomaru spoke glaring at the demon
"I feel fairly real my boy." Tōgo smirked
"He looks real to me." Inuyasha spoke, coming to stand on the other side of Tōgo
"If you don't believe me, ask your Miko." Tōgo smirked
"Ask me what?" Kagome asked, walking over to the group with her mother and grandfather
"Is he real Kagome?" Inuyasha asked
"Yeah, he is. Midoriko thought his time was taken too soon, she wanted to give back to the world. I'm not entirely positive about what happened, for her to think he needed to come back. He was a willing participant in this."
"It's true. Now is not the time to discuss my reasonings, just know I am real and that I am here to stay." Tōgo smiled
"Now what do we do?" Sango asked rejoining the group with Miroku
"Let's go to my home, we have a celebration to be had. We must spread the new!" Niko spoke excitedly next to Inuyasha
Kagome smiled, agreeing with Niko. "I agree. Miroku and I can purify this land, that way there are no impurities here. Gramps, would you be willing to help us?"
"Of course, out with the demons! The bad ones!" Causing the group to laugh
Miroku and Kagome, with the help of gramps, had everyone move out of the way. Gramps was merely there for show, Kagome knew that it made him feel good to feel important. After it was set up, Kagome and Miroku did what was needed. The air shifted as soon as they did what they needed, knowing that it would take time for anything to grow there. However, they knew after doing this something would grow. Now all remnants that remained of Naraku were gone in the ashes.
After this, the duo met up with their group. Sesshomaru found Kagome's side, taking her hand and holding tight to it as they walked to the village, they would stay the night. Spreading the news, the village threw a bash for the group. After they retired to bed, the next day started. Tōgo transformed into his true form, allowing everyone to ride him to shorten the trip. They arrived at Niko's village by mid-day. Niko was the first one off Tōgo's back, her villagers came running out at the sight of the large demon.
"Lady Niko?" Adzuki was the first one of her pack to come running
"Adzuki!" Niko smiled, pulling her dear friend into a hug
"Have you done it? Is he gone?" Adzuki asked,
"Yes, it is all over with. For the next week, we celebrate!" Niko yelled to her people; her people started to cheer surround the group
Kagome smiled, yet she didn't want to celebrate right now. She was tired, wanted to spend time with her family, and Sesshomaru. She could hear Niko and Inuyasha retelling their battle, Sango stayed back with Kagome feeling the way Kagome was. Just wanting to relax with their group, however, it did not appear that would be how Niko was running the show.
Going to the center of town is when the party began. It went late into the night, Tōgo seemed to fit right in. Inuyasha and Niko had been inseparable since they'd been back to her village. Kagome was glad they were enjoying themselves.
"Miko." Sesshomaru spoke coming from behind her
"Lord Sesshomaru." Kagome smiled up at him
"Would you like to take a walk?" Sesshomaru asked
"I'd love to!" Taking his offered hand, they slipped out of the party. Going to the edge of the town, taking the path they had when they'd been there before.
Taking their time, they enjoyed the silence that came from leaving the party. Kagome enjoyed the feeling of Sesshomaru's large hand holding her hand. Sesshomaru stopped them, turning to face Kagome.
"Sess?" Kagome asked
Shaking his head, he pulled her close. Holding her close to him, Kagome could feel the love pouring off from him. She tried to make sure he knew that she loved him just as much.
"I didn't know what to do, all I knew was I had to kill him." Sesshomaru whispered, just loud enough for Kagome to hear. "Seeing you standing on that hill, pushed down my inner demon. I've never had that happen, just seeing someone that had to ability to calm me down."
"I'm glad, seeing you teeter on the edge was something I never want to see again. I could see everything that was happening, I begged to come back even if it meant dying to see you live."
"No." Sesshomaru spoke firmly, "Never sacrifice yourself for this one."
"Isn't that what you do when you love someone?" Kagome pulled back, looking up to the demon
Sesshomaru smirked, nodding his head. Leaning down, he let his lips find Kagome's. Kagome pulled him closer, loving the feel of his lips on hers. Treasuring the feel, thinking for a moment that she'd never have this again. Sesshomaru pulled away, resting his forehead against hers.
"I thought that I would never feel that again." Kagome spoke softly
"I never want that again." Sesshomaru spoke
"You know Niko wants to celebrate our courting that will lead to our mating. She wants to have that before we leave."
"She's just as annoying as my brother."
Kagome laughed, "We should get a good night's sleep. There is a long couple week ahead of us."
"Hn." Sesshomaru nodded planting another kiss on Kagome's lips before they headed back to the party.
In the days to come, Tōgo, Kagome's mother, and gramps spent as much time with Kagome and Sesshomaru. When Niko came around and dragged them to the celebration, Inuyasha was beside her. Kagome smiled at how happy they both looked, she wasn't sure what was going on. They both looked relieved. Sango and Miroku hadn't left each other's side, Sango was glowing.
Taking a moment to have a hot bath together, Kagome confronted her about it.
"He actually did it, Miroku proposed to me. He doesn't have a ring yet, he is going shopping with Tōgo, your gramps, and Sesshomaru tomorrow."
"Sango! I'm so happy for you!" Kagome smiled
"Has Sesshomaru asked you yet?"
"We're waiting until we get back. Even though Niko seems to think we should celebrate right now. Maybe we can turn it into a celebration for you two!" Kagome smiled
"No, we couldn't do that!" Sango exclaimed
"Yes, yes we can!" Kagome smiled "You and Miroku have been waiting for this moment, you deserve this more than anyone else."
"Thank you, Kagome."
After their bath, they found Niko to tell her the change of plans. She was slightly disappointed there wouldn't be a ceremony for Kagome yet hearing of Sango's news, Niko started up her planning skills. The day before they would leave would be when the ceremony would take place, giving the girls three days to prepare Sango.
The days flew by quickly, leaving little time for anything besides planning. Kagome's mother even helped; she stated a couple of times that she'd felt out of sorts here. Even stating this world was even better than the world they came from. Kagome smiled, stating that was why she loved being here. Talking more about the travel around this world, along with Kagome's mom telling of what happened on the day they were taken.
Kagome felt so bad, for allowing something like that to happen to them. The only saving grace was they were safe now, in a place that Kagome could watch over them. Thankfully the main cause of danger was gone, Kagome understood there would always be someone after them. As she was the holder of the Shikon jewel, until the moment she thought of a way to get rid of it for good.
It was the day that Sango and Miroku would be linked together for life, Sango had asked Kagome to be the one to stand up beside her. Of course, Kagome said yes, she was beyond ecstatic. Niko was making all the final agreements; she was good at this. Kagome was glad for her to take charge; she wasn't sure how the planning for her ceremony would go. Putting that to the back of her mind, Kagome helped her mother dress Sango for her day. Knowing that the moment Sango's presence would be required was quickly approaching.
Stepping back with her mother after preparing Sango, she looked gorgeous. Smiling to her friend and offering her a hand, it was the time that Sango had been waiting for. Waiting for many years, Kagome lead her friend with her head held high.
"Kagome?" Sango stopped her friend seeing Gramps waiting for them
"What is it Sango? Cold feet?" Kagome asked worried, as this was so soon after the final battle
"No! Your grandfather offered to walk me down the aisle, do you mind? It slipped my mind that he asked."
"Who do you think had him ask?" Kagome smiled softly, "You're my best friend and a sister I would have never had without the beast we destroyed. I wanted to give you a piece of my family that you lost, think of it as something of a wedding gift."
Sango pulled her sister into a hug, as she was the last remaining family she had. Knowing with Naraku gone, Kohaku was also gone. Glad that he could finally rest in peace. Pulling away, they met Gramps who took Sango's offered arm while Kagome went to take her seat beside her mother and Sesshomaru. The ceremony was beautiful, she could see the love radiating off from her friends. After the ceremony was done, the reception started soon after. Niko made the way for each transition, moving slowly and stealthily into the order that was needed. Kagome took her turn to make a wonderful speech to her friends, which created some tears in her friend's eyes. They never fell, Sango made sure to not ruin all of Kagome's mothers' hard work.
The festivities slowed as everyone was giving the group time at the end of the night, sitting around a table.
"I have an announcement," Inuyasha spoke up, everyone was just staring at each other driving him mad
"What is in 'Yasha?" Kagome asked first, curious of his unplanned announcement
"After thinking about it, I wanted everyone to know that I will be staying here." Inuyasha announced
"What?" Kagome asked surprised
"You know why Kags. There is too much past there is enough to fill a lifetime's worth, no one here knows me. I don't have people looking down on me, this is something I have thought about." Inuyasha started, "It's not like I won't be able to come and visit, I'll know where you are."
Kagome looked saddened by this revelation, knowing that no matter where he went, he was looked down on. "If you think this is best, you know I support you!" Kagome smiled, also feeling sad that she was going to miss one of her best friends.
"Are you sure Inuyasha?" Miroku asked his best friend, the one that he treasured greatly
"Yeah, I've spoken to Niko about this and she is going to let me stay here."
"If that is something you think is the best brother, then we will all support you on this," Sesshomaru spoke, finalizing it for everyone
"Thank you for that. Just know I will visit, it's not like you'll never see me again." Inuyasha smiled
"Alright, I think my husband and I want to spend some alone time before we leave tomorrow afternoon." Sango spoke standing, grabbing Miroku's hand. The group watched them leave the hall, both radiating with happiness.
"I have rations ready for you, I will have someone give them to you in the morning." Niko spoke
"Thank you, the road home will be quick. We won't want to stop often, just want to get home." Kagome spoke
Inuyasha barked out in laughter, Kagome knowing what he was laughing at scowled at him. Inuyasha stopped smirking at Kagome, who continued to scowl while rolling her eyes. It would be their joke.
Kagome stood, "Alright, I'm going to head to bed." She went and kissed her mother and Gramp's cheeks
"I'll walk you to your room, Miko." Sesshomaru stood to join her
"You don't have to." Kagome smiled
Sesshomaru paused, not liking to be put on the spot. "I would like to."
"If you insist." Kagome nodded
"Sesshomaru, if you are awake tonight, I'd like to speak with you." Tōgo spoke up
Sesshomaru nodded, leading Kagome out of the hall. Hearing that they began to talk after they left, Kagome sighed.
"What is the matter, Miko?"
"They're up to something." Kagome looked up to Sesshomaru
"Of course they are; they want to plan our mating ceremony. It was kind of you to allow the demon slayer this day, makes one wonder if you had second thoughts."
Kagome stopped quickly, "What? No!" Kagome said shocked
"This one is curious why you allowed her to have this then?"
"I want us to choose when we pick the day, who is invited, and to be about us. For them, this ceremony was a long time coming. Not only did they get married, but they could also finally share their happiness. They weren't going to get that before with Naraku alive, if he was still around, they couldn't form a family."
Sesshomaru shook his head, still not fully understanding. Yet, he hoped that Kagome would understand the implications of doing it this way. The small ceremony that she planned for would not be the case, doing it back home would stir in more people. Leaving her with a kiss at her room, Sesshomaru left her to sleep. No one else might be able to see it, but he could. She was tired, it was just the little things. Missing a cue here and there, ones she normally wouldn't. Glad to see her to bed, he left to go back to visit with his 'father'. He still didn't understand how one could become part of the living world after being dead for years. Yet, he smelled like his father, fought like him. He would get to the bottom of things.
"Tōgo," Sesshomaru spoke announcing himself to the only one left in the hall
"Sesshomaru," Tōgo spoke, motioning to the seat across from him
Sesshomaru crossed the hall, going to sit staring at his father. He would not be the one to speak first, he'd learned to allow his opponent to show themselves first.
"That's enough of that Sesshomaru, I am not the enemy. Do you not believe your future mate?" Tōgo asked
"I do believe her. It is you I do not believe in, there have been others who have acted like you and were imposters."
"Very well, ask me a question only you and I would know." Sesshomaru scuffed at his father, this one was good. "Son, ask me a question."
"Why should I play into this game?"
"Because you do not believe me."
Sesshomaru stared at him, trying to get him to break. It seemed to have worked in the past, yet the man sitting crossed from him only smirked annoying him. "If I do play into this game and I find your answer to be wrong, I kill you here and now."
Tōgo had his turn to bark out a laugh, "You have not changed since a young pup, always so serious. I'd hoped that your Miko would have given you a soft spot."
"That is not your concern." Sesshomaru answered, taking the moment of silence to think of a question. "I have my question for you." Sesshomaru looked to Tōgo who sat still waiting. "When I was a pup, I asked you about the mating rituals of our kind. What did you tell me?"
"That when you grew up and were ready, I would tell you the start of this. Then to take my spot in the western lands that I would give you all I knew of our kind." Sesshomaru stared at him, hearing this word for word. This was the same question that he would ask all the imposters. "I didn't get that chance, for after that conversation you stalked off impatient as always. I also battled and died saving your brother and step-mother."
Sesshomaru played no emotion on his face, yet inside he almost felt- happy. "Then how are you back to the mortal world?"
"Midoriko, she saved Kagome. After that, I didn't expect her to use what she had left to save me as well. We met in the in-between before I continued on, she followed with me. I watched both of your journeys with her, I saw you and Kagome becoming close. I'd always say if I'd done things differently if only I'd kept my family safe. At this moment they would not be fighting, there would not be the gap between my two sons. She gave me that second chance, along with your Miko. This time around I do not plan on being so careless, as you used to tell me constantly." Tōgo explained, smirking at his son. Sesshomaru smirked at his father, knowing that was something he told him. "You grew into yourself; you still have your mother's nose."
"Mother says I look like you."
"She's still alive? Great!"
"She will be as thrilled as you are."
"Ah- what the hell. At least you're grown and we don't have to worry about parenting you."
"I didn't have either of you parent me if you remember right."
"I did my best; your mother was insufferable and thought I was a bad influence."
"You were a bad influence."
"I must not have been that bad, I didn't rub off onto you."
Sesshomaru rolled his eyes, standing. "I'm going to get some sleep; I plan on flying back over to my home."
"Very well, goodnight son."
Sesshomaru started to walk away before stopping, "Goodnight Father."
Not stopping to see what his facial expression was, Sesshomaru stalked on heading to his room.

The next morning was chaotic, everyone was trying to pack while eat and say their good-byes. Miroku had many gifts from their new family from over the seas, Kagome and her mother stepped in to help pack their things. Utilizing all the space they could, before they knew it it was time to leave. Inuyasha had pulled Kagome aside before they left, Kagome was confused as to what he wanted.
"I know by your face, you're confused."
"Well, yeah." Kagome chuckled
"I just wanted to make sure to tell you I'm sorry for everything, especially telling you that I was staying here. I know I threw that on you."
"Don't worry about it Inuyasha, all is forgiven. What you were feeling and saying at that moment was the change that was happening within you, there was nothing you could have done differently. I'm glad you have found your happiness here; you deserve it most out of all of us."
"You deserve it too, what he did for everyone. We need this time to be happy."
"When did you become so grown up?" Kagome asked surprised at him
"I guess, the thought of losing you. It gave me what you told me once, a reality check." Inuyasha smirked
"Well, I'm glad. Something had to have you grow up, even if it's only a little. Before I leave, there is something that I want to do. I want to remove your subjugation beads; you don't need them anymore." Kagome spoke
"No, leave them on for now. Until you can get me something else, I've grown attached to these."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure. Be safe on your way home, if that bastard hurts you leave a piece for me."
Kagome laughed, pulling Inuyasha into a hug. Inuyasha reciprocated it before pulling away, "You better get going, especially if you want to get home tomorrow."
Kagome nodded, feeling tears well up in her eyes. Throwing her backpack on, she turned to leave. Their group planned to walk to the open field away from town before Sesshomaru and Tōgo transformed, that way they could do what they needed. Kagome hurried to walk beside Sesshomaru, knowing that he didn't understand her feelings. Feeling a pat on her head, she looked over to see Tōgo giving her a soft smile. Not speaking, he walked on to lead the group. Sango had let Gramps ride on Kirara as he had the most difficult time, Kagome's mother walked beside Tōgo asked him questions. Miroku and Sango took the rear, wanting some space. It would take them all time to get used to the void that happened in their group, to have Inuyasha come back then decide to stay. That hole stayed, and no one thought it would ever heal completely.
Arriving into the field, Tōgo offered to be the one to transform into his true form wanting Sesshomaru to make sure everyone was safe. Sesshomaru acknowledged this, helping to load the group onto his father's back. Tōgo excitedly transformed, waiting for Sesshomaru to load the group onto his back. Once they were ready, Tōgo took off. Kagome watched the scenery change as they moved over the country, they have spent the last half a year in. Before Kagome knew it, they had gone over the water and back to the country, they'd missed. It seemed to have taken no time at all for them to get back to Sesshomaru's home, granted it was the next day. Most of them had slept through the night, enjoying the peace and quiet that they were getting.
Tōgo landed, allowing Sesshomaru to get off the passengers. Kagome made a point to keep her mother and gramps behind the two demons, wanting to surprise her brother. At that moment she heard the pitter pater of feet coming running through the entryway, Shippo was in the lead with Rin and Sota close second. Rin went to Sesshomaru and Shippo and Sota ran to Kagome, Kagome fell onto her bum while the two boys mauled her. Kagome laughed hugging and kissing both of them, the happiness pouring from her made the tears fall. Readjusting, she got to her knees settling the two boys.
"Sota, there is something I need you to see." Kagome spoke
"What is it?" Kagome turned to the two demons, taking the cue to move to reveal their lost relatives. Sota gasped, running to them. Kagome stood, holding Shippo watching her brother reunite with their mother and gramps. Shippo squirmed, which surprised Kagome but she let him go. Watching him run over to where Sota was, he waited patiently for Kagome's mother to notice him. Picking him up like she'd always known him, she cradled the two boys. Kagome moved to stand next to Sesshomaru, Rin noticed moving to give Kagome a big hug.
"Welcome home master Sesshomaru! Those children have driven me crazy! I was not sure I would make it through it- it- what- who are you?!" Jaken spoke taking note of who was standing beside the group
"Good to see you too, imp." Tōgo spoke
Before Kagome could listen to them banter, her mother came over to her. "I am so glad that you are all safe, thank you for taking care of them Sesshomaru. From what Sota has tried to fill me in, is that you paid off our family shrine? Is that correct?"
"I only did what I needed to do, to keep this one's Miko sane."
"I don't believe that is the only reason behind it, I'll accept it."
Sesshomaru gave her a quizzical look, unsure what she meant by her statement. "Jaken, father enough." Tired of hearing them fighting. "Jaken, go have a meal prepared for us. Also, send out messengers to spread the word of the half-demon Naraku's demise. The west will hold a celebration for the lord and ladies of the lands in three weeks. We will talk more about that tonight. Let's get to our rooms and settle in." Sesshomaru spoke, lifting the rest of the packs off then showing the group to their rooms.
Kagome remembered what room she had, leaving her things there. Staying with her mother, Kagome noticed that she was looking sad. It was hard to tell at first, yet with trying to read Sesshomaru it had become easier to read others.
"What's wrong mama?"
"I miss some of my things, I don't have anything from home. Clothes, memories, pictures- I don't have anything here." Kagome's mother sat on the bed, looking at the empty room
"Alright, so make a list and I can go home and get it. Plus, I'll have gramps do the same. I can't bring everything over, but I can bring some of the things we really need. Plus, I can get some more stock in whatever I need. Like cards and batteries for my camera."
"You would do that?"
"Of course, mama. I'll talk to Sesshomaru tonight about it, plus having some extra medical supplies won't hurt!" Kagome smiled, hoping to reassure her mother about everything
Kagome's mother pulled her into a tight embrace, "Why don't you go rest up, it's been quite the journey. I'm not sure that it's completely over yet!"
"Oh, this one is just the start of a new one!" Kagome smiled, letting her mom lay down
Leaving her room, she retraced her steps to Sesshomaru's room then to his office in hopes of finding him. Finding him in his office with his father, she knocked softly.
"Come in," Sesshomaru spoke, Kagome walked in trying to read the room
"Ah! Just the girl we were thinking of!" Tōgo smiled ushering Kagome to the chair beside Sesshomaru, then went and took the chair a crossed from them
"What's going on?"
"Well, if you hadn't noticed my son lacks decoration skills. He mentioned that you might help him redecorate, he's planning this celebration yet has no skill whatsoever. That is where you come in."
"Okay, so what do you need from me?"
"To start a color scheme to go with."
Kagome sat back, thinking what the best colors would be. "I think bright colors, maybe some greens, yellows with white."
"Okay, that will work. That's a start, we can work around that." Tōgo spoke, leaving the two of them alone
"Has he always done that, get up and leave without any warning?" Kagome asked, confused at his actions
"Yes, it was irritating before and he continues to act like a child even now." Sesshomaru rubbed his head "What do you need Miko?"
"I was wondering when we could go to the other side of the well, I'm assuming this now would be the last time. My mom wants something of hers and I'm assuming so does my grandfather. While I'm there I can get some other things, at least to stock up on for as long as possible. Once I figure out what to do with the jewel, I'm not sure that after it's gone it will allow me to pass through it."
"Very well, we can go in two days. You can help me plan this celebration; I will go with you to do what we must."
"Thank you, Sess." Kagome smiled, moving to give him a kiss on the cheek
Sesshomaru nodded, knowing what that meant to her. Leaning back in his chair, the paperwork he had from his time away was irritating. Jaken had not kept up on it, nor did it look like he tried.
"Do you want some help?" Kagome asked, seeing that he was frustrated
"No, I will do it."
"What is all this anyway?"
"It is a request from the people of my land or diplomatic papers. Some of it is even notes from my workers that need to be sorted and filed away after completion." Sesshomaru spoke starting to organize the papers
"That doesn't sound that hard, I will help you so that you can relax a bit with me tonight." Kagome spoke standing helping to rearrange the papers into the piles Sesshomaru created
Sesshomaru stared at the Miko for a moment before shaking his head at her, she amazed him every day with something. Today, even when she was still clearly exhausted, she wanted to do work. Even if it was mindless work, she was willing to jump in to help even if it meant learning how to do it.
Sorting the paperwork out took no time at all, it was just in time for their meal. Meeting with the rest of their group, they sat down. Kagome to Sesshomaru's right and everyone else followed suit. Noticing that Sesshomaru seemed to be in a good mood, she'd soon find out why.
During their meal the conversation flowed easily, it was great to see everyone getting along. The kids asked all sorts of questions about their trip, what it was like, did they meet any cool people, where Inuyasha was, what kind of flowers they had. Talking about all of the good, while avoiding the final battle like the plague, made the trip savory. Miroku and Sango asked to speak to Sesshomaru and Kagome after dinner, Kagome wasn't sure about what as they hadn't spent a lot of time together after her marriage. It was understandable, Kagome felt empty without her friend. Knowing that was the case with marriage, she shook it off.
Finishing dinner, Sesshomaru led the three to his office where they sat down.
"What is it that you'd like to speak to us about?" Sesshomaru started
"We are going to take a trip for a couple weeks, we are going to visit the slayers' village. After that we are going to visit my home, to say our good-byes to those villages. That leads us to what we'd like to ask you." Miroku started, "After much discussion, we have decided to not build a new home in the slayer's village. Too much has happened there and continues to happen, we don't feel that anything good would come from it. We'd like to in time, buy a piece of the western lands to settle down and make our home. We do not have much at this time, we do know that we want to be close to our family." Miroku ended with Sango nodding
"Are you sure? I mean the idea of you living close brings me a lot of happiness! I just know that you wanted to go back to the slayers' village to rebuild, not somewhere with no roots." Kagome spoke, wanting to make sure they were making the right decision
"Miroku is right, there is too much death and destruction there. No matter how many times we seem to build anything up, it seems to get destroyed. It has a bad aura there, one that cannot be fixed with any power. It will take time, so with that, we will keep respecting the dead that lay there." Sango finally spoke
"If you're sure, I support you no matter what." Kagome smiled, receiving one back
"For the land, where are you thinking of owning a piece?" Sesshomaru spoke
"Wherever you will let us buy, we'd like to build a large house. With the ability to have a garden."
Sesshomaru stood grabbing a map, rolling it out he looked at it for a moment before pointing to a section. It was just southwest of their location, close to the water yet far enough away so if a flood were to happen it wouldn't destroy their home. "How does this section look? We can visit it when you return from your journey."
"That looks wonderful, however, the size of it looks like it is more than we can afford at this time." Miroku spoke
"This one did not give you a wedding gift at your reception, think of this as your gift. This one will have people build your house to your expectation, then anything further will be up to you."
"Are you sure, that seems like so much!" Sango exclaimed
"It is for family, so it is not a problem." Sesshomaru tried to say without sounding disgusted
"Thank you so much!" Sango exclaimed, bouncing in her seat
"Thank you, Lord Sesshomaru. This was unexpected but pleasing!" Miroku spoke
"You both are welcome."
Speaking some more, Sango and Miroku retired to their bedroom. "Alright, you owe me some relaxation time." Kagome grabbed his hands tugging him to his feet
"What are you planning on doing?" Sesshomaru stood, allowing the Miko to drag him
"I want to walk through your gardens and then possibly just spend some alone time with you." Kagome smiled softly
"Very well." Sesshomaru took her hand, leading her through her garden slowly. Telling her every species he had, and why he chose them. Not realizing that he had barely relaxed in years so doing this with his Miko felt peaceful. Slowly heading back to his house, they continued to talk softly until they reached their rooms.
"Thank you, Sess." Kagome smiled seeing the annoyance in his eyes "I will see you in the morning."
"Goodnight." Sesshomaru leaned down giving her a soft kiss before turning and heading into his own room.
Kagome hurried to get ready for bed, thankful that Sesshomaru had most of her stuff put away for her while gone. Climbing into the soft bed, she relaxed into the best sleep she'd had in years.
-X-
The days passed quickly, before Kagome knew it they were off to the well. They had seen Miroku and Sango off the morning after their discussion, with them wanting to get what they had to in the order they left early. Sesshomaru had left Tōgo in charge while away, Kagome could tell that didn't sit all that well with Sesshomaru. There was no talk this morning on the way to the well, Kagome was thankful for that. With Sango and Miroku leaving, the children were temperamental about their schoolwork. Thankfully Kagome's mother knew how to woo the children, leaving her to be in charge of the kids while they were gone.
Landing on the well's edge, Sesshomaru gave Kagome a moment to readjust before going through the well.
Landing on the other side, Sesshomaru did as he did the last time. Leaving the well house, they went to the house. Kagome started to gather her mother's things first and then she went to get whatever Gramp's wanted. Wanting to get that done and over with, then getting that stuff to the well house was the easy part. The next objective on her to-do list while there was shopping. Giving Sesshomaru the clothes he bought to wear while there, Kagome made adjustments to her list. They headed out, going to get everything on her list. Kagome was glad that it was just the two of them this time around, it made getting around quicker. It also helped that Sesshomaru had become used to this side of the well, or at least more exceptive of what was to come.
Thankful for Sesshomaru's strength, she would have never been able to carry all of the bags herself. After buying some lunch, they headed back to the shrine. Going in to eat quickly, Sesshomaru wondered about the house. Kagome watched as he brought items down, some she'd never think to bring it was also things that she would have wanted down the road. At that point, it would have to be hidden. It was to advance for the period they were in.
"Are you ready?" Sesshomaru startled her out of her thoughts
"Oh, yeah." Kagome stood getting rid of the garbage
"What is on your mind, Miko?"
"It's nothing, the house is looking empty. Thank you for thinking of some of this, I would have never thought to grab it!" Kagome spoke
"You didn't think you'd get this second chance; I am more in tune with what you want, to help you be fully prepared to live in my time."
Kagome looked to him, "Your guard is down."
"Excuse me?"
"You're more comfortable here, than in your own time." Kagome spoke moving to stand in front of Sesshomaru
"What makes you think that?"
"Well for starters, you're not nearly as cranky as you are over there." Kagome smirked
"I do not have people nagging on me."
"You don't hesitate to come here, even with the smell being so pungent. You have talked more here than you ever have in your time."
"I take that back; I do have someone nagging me." Sesshomaru smirked at Kagome only answering one of her comments
"You like it here, admit it!"
"To know why you act the way you do, to understand the world in which you came from is what has completed this Sesshomaru," Sesshomaru spoke, not giving in to his Miko
"I'll take that as admitting you like it here." Kagome smirked back, "I guess, it's time to head back."
Sesshomaru nodded, helping to pick up the last of the bags. Heading back to the well house, Kagome watched him prepare to go beyond the well. He began taking bags over, giving Kagome a moment to herself. Looking out the windows at the home she grew up in, this time around it felt real. This time was the last time she'd cross through the well. Feeling the well activate, she turned and went down to wait for Sesshomaru to show himself.
"Are you ready?" He asked her softly
"Yeah, this time it feels different. Like last time was just a possibility, this time around it feels more concrete. That this is truly the last time I will see my home from this point of view." Kagome spoke, "I must sound crazy."
"You do not, you will miss your home. There is nothing wrong with that." Kagome smiled softly, thankful that he did understand her. Ready to leave, she didn't look back this time. Taking Sesshomaru's offered hand, she took her last leap through the well.
(WOW! I didn't expect this chapter to take off like this, rolling with it than seeing the counts. This is the longest chapter yet, I hope no one minds. I'm not good at battle descriptions so I did my best. I also liked to throw in some curveballs. Hopefully, they are perceived well! Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this chapter as much as I did. Please R&R, and have a safe holiday season wherever you are. ~Missy)
