Chapter 25 In Your Heart Forever

That Night

We had made it to Hokani Falls.

Nita and Kenai looked at a drawing in the stone wall before walking away.

Koda and I looked at it, and saw that it was a drawing of a boy and a girl.

"Is that supposed to be Kenai and Nita", Koda asked.

"I think so", I replied.

Then, I turned around, and saw an amazing sight.

I saw the lights that touch the earth change the Winter climate to Spring.

I then looked at Koda and Nita, who were looking at the lights.

"My mom is up there somewhere, the latter revealed.

"My mom too", Koda revealed before looking at Nita. "Do you miss yours?"

"Yes", Nita replied before kneeling down besides Koda. "But, you don't need to wait for the lights to find her Koda. She's always with you, in here."

With that, Nita put her hand and Koda's heart.

"Once you love someone, they stay in your heart forever."

When I heard these words, I looked at Nita and Koda in shock before clutching the fabric of my parka near my heart.

"Once you love someone...they stay in your heart forever."

After I said this, I looked over at Kenai, who was looking down sadly.

"It's time."

Ten Minutes Later

We had started a fire.

Nita looked at Kenai sadly, and then...she threw the amulet into the fire.

We watched as it burned and saw sparks fly into the lights above.

After this, Nita looked at Koda.

"Koda", she started. "You be good okay? You're such a sweet cub."

With that, Koda jumped into Nita's arms as she hugged him.

He said something...but it came out as a growl.

Nita looked at him in shock as he continued the growl.

"The spell", she said sadly in realization before looking at Kenai.

He tried to say something too, but it also came out as a growl.

Nita looked down sadly, and said this.

"Goodbye."

With that, Nita got up...and left.

Koda and Kenai called out to her as she did so.

"Don't worry guys", I reassured them. "I'll go with her to make sure gets back safely."

With that, I kneeled down and opened my arms and Koda jumped into them.

"Remember what Nita said Koda", I started. "Be good okay?"

Koda growled in response.

Then...I put him down before looking at Kenai.

"And you", I started. "You take care of Koda okay?"

Kenai growled in response.

"Good", I stated before sadly looking at Koda and Kenai for one last time. "Goodbye guys."

Two Days Later

Nita and I had made it back to her village.

Her aunts were currently arguing over the accessories of her out, and because of it, they didn't notice how sad she looked.

"Nita", one of them started. "What would make you happy?"

Nita didn't answer, which made her aunts finally notice her mood.

Then, Nita's father walked.

"Once again", he started. "We are ready. Are you my daughter?"

"Yes father", Nita replied sadly.

Then, her aunts left and her father walked up to her.

"I would expect a bride to be smiling on her wedding day", he said. "Is something wrong?"

"Daddy", Nita started. "I'm so confused. I thought that when I burned the amulet the bond would be broken broken, but...I'm sorry daddy. I can't marry Atka."
