2162, Five years since contact
Citadel council, Tevos's chambers
Tevos came marching into her office after another infuriating council meeting that resulted in another failure to get the humans to hand over some of their technology. The most infuriating part was that it wasn't even weapons or anything of the sort. With the help of the salarians they were trying to pressure humanity into giving up some of its medical and terraforming technology.
For the past five years she and her people have failed to make humanity comply they were unpredictable, unruly, but most of all they were powerful which made them a threat. Humanity practically owned the entire medical market thanks to their med gel, healers, and their cogs who kept coming up with new medicines and procedures that were decades ahead of anybody else. Just last year a no name company came up with a treatment that cured Kepral's Syndrome. The Illuminated Primacy were so thankful for such a cure that they pledged to be humanity's ally till the end of time.
Speaking of allies' humanity had been gathering them a lot of them in the past five year. Of course, there were the turians and with them came the volus who have benefited greatly from investing in a few human companies. When they cured the drell they gained both hanar and the drell who might not have much to offer but still that a feat that her people hadn't been able to achieve.
Then there was the fact that humanity was helping a krogan warlord named Wrex take over Tuchanka. When she first heard about it from Certart she was already calling for punishment until humanity assured her, they were only offering aid such as food stuffs, medicine, and building materials. Even after a spectre confirmed what the humans were saying was true she was still uneasy about helping the krogan out. If the Krogan do somehow manage to get a central leadership this could be a problem for the galaxy. Though Certart assured her not to worry saying that accidents happen on Tuchanka all the time.
And if that wasn't enough there was a new terrorist group called Cerberus that was all but at war with the batarians. The System Alliance condemned Cerberus saying that they would never stoop to such a level as using terrorist. The thing was Certart had confided in her that the STG believed that Cerberus was tied to the System Alliance, but they could never prove it without more evidence.
'Damn the humans nothing makes sense anymore,' Tevos thought as she sat down in her chair as she tried to think of how simple the galaxy used to be. The turians would shoot first and ask questions later, the krogan used to simply kill each other on their irradiated rock, the hanar stayed in their little area of the galaxy, and the asari were the undisputed power in the entire galxy. Then humanity came in with and started to destroy everything that the asari had built.
The rest of the asari council believed that in a century or two humanity will comply with their demands and become an associate race of the council. At first Tevos believed in that as well, but humanity was making massive strides and was quickly becoming powerful enough that nobody could threaten them except for the whole might of the citadel. That would never happen as long as humanity and the turians were allies.
"Magic," she cursed as she looked over the most recent information from a joint operation black site between the STG and a group of asari commandos. The report detailed the usual that magic was limited to only human and turians. The black site was only known to a few people in the Asari Republic and the Salarian Union, because its purpose was to find out how to either gain the use of magic or how to prevent it from being used.
Both the republic and the union understood the severity of the situation that they were in which was why they have taken such drastic measures. From kidnapping magic users, dissection, experimentation, breeding programs, organ transplants, there was nothing that they wouldn't try to get the upper hand.
A monitor next to her let her know that her next appointment was here. With a smile the councilor opened her door with a tap of her omni tool letting in one of the most dangerous asari. "Hello Tela it's good to see you again take a seat, would you like a drink," Tevos asked knowing that Tela Vasir hated being called to the citadel without warning.
"Skip the formalities, why the hell did you call me here? I was busy tracking some pirates before you demanded me to come to the citadel or face charges of treason?" Tela asked growing angry the longer she talked.
"Well the treason would be because you work with the shadow broker and in doing so have let a few criminals get away," Tevos said with a smirk as she watched the spectre in front of her deflate a bit before recovering.
Tela was about to speak again before Tevos cut her off. "I have spies as well and while they are no where near as good as the shadow brooker they were still able to coenct a few dots. Im sure that if needed I could bring my information to the STG and they would confirm everything in this file." Tevos handed her the file and sipped her glass as she watched Tela soak everything in before sitting down.
"What do you want," Tela asked realizing that she was at her mercy.
"What do you know about humanity and their magic?
"Nothing really besides what I have heard on the news and read on the codex. I've heard a few rumors about the grimoire society from a few humans Omega."
"Exactly all that we truly know about magic is what they tell us. I along with Certart believe that humanity is hiding more then they know. We want you to use your connections with the shadow broker to find out more about humanity and their magic. I wouldn't bother looking into the turians I doubt they know too much."
"Is that all? The shadow broker is willing to pay massive amount of credits to anybody who brings him information about magic. It wouldn't surprise me if you know more about magic then he does. I can tell you now that he doesn't know much."
"I know that, but hopefully with both of our resources you should be able to get something. Here is a dig site that the turians have been interested in lately," Tevos said as she sent over the coordinates to her omni tool. "There also seems to be a few human members of the grimoire society there as well. From what we have gotten from the STG is that they believe that there is something valuable hidden there."
"So you want me to go over and spy on it and make sure that whatever is found is shared with the rest of the council?" she asked as she looked over the information that Tevos gave her.
"No, as you might be reading the site is in the terminus zone in the middle of nowhere. Since they are trying to hide what they are doing they only have a turian cruiser and what appears to be a human frigate in orbit. From some deep scans we can determine that there are no other ships within a day or two of ftl. I am sending you along with another spectre that is currently being briefed by Certart with a group of commandos and STG to meet up to kill everyone on that base except for the grimoire members we need them alive."
"And how am I going to do that. Are you going to give me a fleet to destroy the ships in orbit. I will also need more than a group of commandos and an STG team. I saw the footage on Shanix of what those grimoire are capable off. I saw one rip a krogan in half then he killed a few batarians with the krogan's torso. I would need a small army kill them not to mention taking a prisoner a few immensely powerful ones."
"I know and that is why you will go to the shadow broker and let him know of that you need to hire a small but effective force that will aid you. I'm sure that the batarians would be more than willing to aid you. And if cost an issue consider this a down payment," Tevos said as she sent a large amount of funds to Tela omni tool causing her to raise her eye brow in surprise.
"This is a fortune, do you really fear humanity so much?" Tela said as she thought about what all she could spend this on.
"Humanity on its own isn't the issue its magic. With magic humanity is slowly taking over the market with the turians behind them. They already own the medical market with their healers, and their cogs keep coming up with new inventions and ideas that are coming close to surpassing us. No we either need to find a way to grant the asari magic of we must terminate magic," Tevos said as she stared down Tela.
"Now will you take the mission or not?" Tevos asked.
"I doubt that I could say no, and live now would I," Tela said causing Tevos to grin. "Very well I guess I accept. Now if you would excuse me I have a few calls to make," she said as she walked out of the office leaving Tevos alone.
After a minute, a message appeared on her omni tool from her fellow councilor letting her know that the mission was a go. Tela Vasir and Jondum Bau would be leaving the citadel with the next few hours. Tevos smiled and leaned her head back. 'Soon everything will be as it should be,' she thought as she finished her drink.
Unknown location
Mornith tried to focus her power via meditating but no matter how much she tried she was unable to use her powers due to the thick collar around neck. With no luck she opened her eyes and stood up taking in her pure white room. It was small with only a bed and a toilet. She originally had more items in her room such as a desk, table, paper, pen, her own shower, ectara. But after constantly trying to kill the guards and scientists almost everything was taken away.
Mornith was content she had been on a human world for a week and had melded with five humans, with four of them having magic. The one that she melded with this morning was still fresh on her mind. He was a strong active who had power over gravity, in fact she would go so far to say that he was the strongest being that she has even melded with.
She knew that she needed to leave soon before the authorities caught on and found her. The last thing she wanted was for her fun to be spoiled before she could sample each type of magic. Her flight off the world didn't start boarding till latter that night so she spent her time in a coffee shop that was only a short walk away from the space port.
Every now and then a human would come up and talk to ask here where she was from and where she was going. Mornith always replied in a happy manner even if these were getting on her nerve. That was till she looked up and made eye contact with a tall man who just entered the store.
Everything inside her screamed that he was powerful that no one she had ever meat could ever compare to him. The man made his way straight to her and introduced himself and after a bit of talking back and forth he invited her over.
Every fiber in her body told her not to accept it, that she should excuse herself and make her way to the space port and leave on the first flight off this planet. But the way he spoke almost hypnotized her and she really did want to meld with him.
After a short walk with mild chatter they arrived at an apartment complex. On the short walk to the room she felt something off but the anticipation of getting him alone stopped her from leaving. Nothing could have deterred her from entering the room and having her way with the tall man.
He opened the door and motioned for her to enter first which she gladly did with a smile only for her body to be thrown on the floor with the weight of the world crashing down on her. She tried to stand to fight off her attacker but no matter how hard she tried she couldn't rise any higher than her hands and knees.
She was barley able to look up to see five men in front of her with four of them having their hands stretched out. "Well you sure are a tough one but I doubt that even you could be strong enough to fight off four gravity spikers with a total of twenty kanji," the man in the middle said before Mornith legs gave out and she hit floor causing her to black out.
When she finally came to, she found herself in a white room with a thick collar around her neck that prevented her from using her biotics. Whenever she tried to attack the guards, she would receive a shock from the collar that would cause her fall to the ground in pain and agony. She was quickly informed that she was on a space station in the middle of human territory. The scientists also told her that she was her because this stations purpose was to identify the cause of Ardat-Yakshi and to see if they could permanently turn the biotics off in asari.
At first she fought them tooth and nail but without her powers she was too weak to fight them off. Sure she had a killed a few but now she had brutes and gravity spikers practically carry her around when they needed her. She even caught glimpses of other asari on the station as well. She was latter informed that she was not the only Ardat-Yakshi on the station. Most were here because they have been caught in human space and a few of them were approached and came in hopes of being cured.
After not being able to meditate she stood up and began to pace around her cell in frustration. It had been five days since she was last allowed outside her cell and since there was literally nothing in her cell to do except meditate.
At first the solitude didn't bother her she was hundreds of years old and what was a couple of years of mediating comparing to the centuries that she lived and will live. That was till she realized that with literally nothing else to do since she had lost the privilege to have anything in her cell that wasn't bolted to the ground because she wouldn't comply with her guards.
The past year was the worst she had almost never left her room and when she had she was knocked unconscious via gas being pumped into her room. Even talking to the guards and staff had been limited, they never would respond to her threats and insults that she would yell at them. The only time they responded when she became physical and even then, it was to tell her to stop and calm down as a sedative was administered and she was restrained.
"THIS IS VARENSHIT!" She yelled in a fit of rage as she banged against the door knowing that soon after she would be told to stop and when she didn't gas would be pumped in the room and she would pass out.
"Mornith please stop or we will have to gas you," a voice called out on the speaker.
"I am one of the most powerful entities in the galaxy and I locked in my room with nothing to do like a disobedient child! I am hundreds of years old I have killed thousands and you take away my biotics and treat me like a child I deserve more I deserve you to begging for my mercy on your hands and knees," Mornith yelled as she stepped away from the door staring at the camera in the corner.
"We have been over this before. You will never leave this place but, if you are willing to cooperate with us, we can make your life more comfortable," the voice called out in a tired voice.
"Nothing will stop me from killing you once I get out of here," Mornith growled out as she sat down on her bed.
"Mornith every other Ardat-Yakshi here has agreed to at least some level of cooperativity with us."
"Then they are weak. When I get free, I shall kill them as well! They don't deserve the title of Ardar-Yakshi!" She screamed knowing that the gas would be kicking in soon enough she figured she had nothing left to lose. She tried to summon her biotics to unleash a massive burst of energy but in the end the collar activated and shocked her enough that the pain caused her to pass out.
Well it truly has been a long time hasn't it. Honestly I got a little stuck and I had to replan a lot of what I was going to do . Honestly I scrapped this chapeter at least 8 times. I know what I want to do when we get to the first mass effect game but right now I'm having a little trouble getting it all to connect. Next chapter will be longer and Im going to try to have it out by new years but no promises.
I hope you enjoyed it, if not well sorry.
