Karisse's Point of View:

"How did they capture Whiterun so easily?"

"Treachery," the Jarl growled, "Someone opened the gates and allowed the elves inside."

"Do we know how they reached the city so swiftly?"

Jarl Balgruuf grimaced.

"We don't know. When the gates opened and the elves marched in, there were no guards at the front gate. We're not sure if the traitor slew the guards, or if the guards abandoned their postings. All we know is the elven soldiers slaughtered all but a handful of the guards. Myself, Farengar, Irileth and a half dozen guards escaped the city. Some of the civilians locked themselves in their homes right after the fighting began, the rest managed to escape the city with us."

I nodded with a frown.
"Jarl Balgruuf," I began, "I deeply apologise for what happened to your city. My brigade and I were on our way to reinforce the city but...Clearly we were too late."
"It's not your fault," he said, "There should've been no way they fell on us that quick either."

I looked around the room properly for the first time. We were standing inside the deepest cavern of Bleak Falls Barrow. I'd been told that long ago, Jarl Allea and a former traveling companion had cleared out the undead that resided there and now it was being used as a sanctuary. Tents were propped throughout the massive cavern, and torches on poles dotted the landscape around them. Upon arrival, I'd ordered my men to take up strategic positions throughout the outer portions of the ruin to ensure the Order couldn't reach the cityfolk of Whiterun and Riverwood inside.

"You owe us an explanation, General," Balgruuf growled, "Who are you? Why is an Thalmor Legion general helping drive back other Thalmor?"

I swore under my breath, realizing Balgruuf was uninformed.

"The elves who attacked Whiterun are not Thalmor," I told him, "They're called the New Order. They're an extremist cell operating independently of the Dominion's leadership. Their army so far seems to be entirely made up of deserters from the Dominion. As for who I am, I am General Karisse of the First Legion of the Aldmeri Dominion. My father is High General Falyon, commander of the entire Dominion military force."

Balgruuf nodded.

"I am hesitant to trust in you," he admitted, "However it seems that I have no choice. If you wished us ill you could have easily slain us all when you arrived."
