"What are you doing here?" I repeated, still in shock at her sudden appearance. If Jane was here right now then this was bad, really bad! I didn't want this to come to a fight; and I hoped that it wasn't about to come to this - but due to the cold calculating look in Jane's eyes I knew that this thought was currently going through her mind.
"That's none of your business Cullen!" she snapped.
"It is!" I snapped back as I glared at her and bawled both of my hands up. "You obviously don't like my daughter" I growled. I then watched as Jane through Renesmee a dark look before looking back at me and pursing her lips tightly together. I then heard Carlisle's calming voice in the fore front of my mind telling me to try and get Jane to talk; only then we will try and be able to understand her purpose here. "Why are you here Jane?" I asked calmed as I loosened the tension in my hands.
"I'm getting sick of your questions!" she glared at me as she started to slowly walk over to the right hand side. I quickly took a couple of steps forward and stepped in front of her; I watched as her face then dropped at this. Thankfully Jacob and Renesmee understood that I wanted them to stay back; and when Jane stepping slowly to her left hand side I followed her preventing from getting close to Jake or Renesmee in anyway. "Since you drove your way into our way of life, you have been a thorn in my side" she told me as she stood still.
"I am sorry about that; that really isn't my intention" I told her sincerely.
"Whatever!" she sighed sarcastically. "None of that matters" she dismissed. "As I am just about getting sick of this" she grimaced before lunging at me. Her hands quickly grabbed me and attempted to shove me out of the way; however I stuck to my guns and attempted to shove her back. She took a swipe at me with her right hand but I grabbed hold of her wrist to prevent her from striking me across the face.
"MAM!" I heard Renesmee shout out as me and Jane began to quickly fight around the clearing, with both of us attempting to strike each other - but with neither of us being able to land a punch or slap.
"DON'T!" I warned the pair of them; as I span around and held both of Jane's wrists awkwardly in front of her chest. She growled at me; and I grimaced back at her. Ever since she laid eyes on me back in Volterra she hated me; and by the looks of it she was now going to use this opportunity to try and get the upper hand over me. Jane then head butted me; and used the very few brief seconds of surprise and shock to shove me away and quickly spin me around and jump onto my back. I fought against her as she crossed my arms over my chest; and I heard a dark chuckle against my right ear. I snarled; and used this sudden wave of fury to spin around and slam her into a nearby tree, causing it to snap and collapse onto her.
"Jacob, get Renesmee out of here!" I called out as I quickly looked over to them, as Jane was attempting to move the tree from her.
"But-" Jacob started.
"Get the others!" I snapped. "NOW! I shouted; and I heard the tree move before Jane jumped back at me and we both fell to the ground. As we continued to scuffle on the ground, with every now and again one of us being able to overpower the other one and flip them onto their back a thought then came to me - why was Jane not using her powers? But I then quickly dismissed this thought - she knew that he powers were powerless against me and my family, as I would always protect them from her.
Jane used my confusion on her current actions against me and she quickly manages to quickly gets me onto my back, which her straddled above me. She then grips her knees against my rib cage and attempts to try and put both of my wrists in one hand; however unfortunately for her her hands were too small for this. I watched as she became frustrated at this and went to claw me and I used this as my time to strike; I quickly pushed up and fought against her until we both broke apart.
"What is your problem?" I snapped in frustration as I noted that both Jacob and Renesmee were still watching from afar rather than getting the others. Jane then ran at me and wrapped her arms around my stomach and started to charge me over a nearby verge than lead down to a river. I grimaced and grunted loudly as I continued to fight against her, however as we got to the edge she swung her right foot behind my left and kicked back as she let go of my abruptly - causing me to fall down and down the verge. I watched as she smirked down at me; as I continued to fall before she turned away from me. I snarled and quickly reached out and grabbed a nearby tree that was half way up the tall verge. I swung against it and quickly began to climb up to Jane, Jake and Renesmee. However I froze when I heard a loud wolf howl which told me that Jacob had transformed; I quickly snapped my head up and I quickly made my way up to the top of the verge.
Time went slowly when my eyes landed on them and I gasped at the sight in front of me; Jane was currently running at Jacob, with Renesmee by his side. I went to run after Jane to stop her; I watched as Jane lifted her right hand up to claw Jacob. I gasped as I pushed myself forward; however I abruptly stopped when I watched Renesmee shove Jacob out of the way and Jane's hand caught her face. I screamed as I watched her eyes slowly roll shut as she dropped to her knees and to the floor. A dark laugh came from Jane's mouth and I heard a snarl escape from Jacob as he lowered down on his legs as he slowly walked towards Jane. However, sadly for Jacob I quickly jumped on Jane's back and spun her around.
"Really?" I snapped. "My daughter!" I growled. "Jacob no!" I warned him as I glared at him.
"She shouldn't have got in the way" Jane sang as she took a step back. "Silly girl!" she winked at me, and I jumped at her and we began fighting again. I felt like a bull seeing a red flag; and I quickly fought her and drove her towards the edge of the verge as Jacob whimpered near Renesmee - who still hadn't woke up.
When we got to the edge of the verge Jane attempted again to try and knock me over again; but this time I was too quick for her and returned her actions and knocked her over the edge and let go of her. She screamed as she began to fall down but she quickly kicked up away from the wall and started to dive forward and towards the river.
"Jacob!" I called and he looked up at me. "Get Renesmee to Carlisle!" I instructed, hoping that this time he was going to listen to me. "NOW!" I shouted as I jumped down the verge following her making sure that she was away from me and my family.
As I dove towards the water I heard Jacob whimpering before he changed back into his mortal form; and when I quickly submerged into the cold water I noted that Jane was quickly swimming away and was about to climb onto the sore. So I quickly swam to sore and quickly followed her through the cut in the trees that she had just ran through.
"I wouldn't follow me if I were you" she evilly laughed at me as I managed to catch up with her, with me being such a short distance away from her.
"Shut up!" I growled as I continued to chase her through the forest, which only caused her to laugh even more at my displeasure.
"I hope your little half breed freak will be ok" she mocked as we continued our chase. "Would be a shame if she isn't, wouldn't it?" she teased, which caused me to growl and continue to push forward to attempt to catch her. I knew that my family probably didn't like my current actions; but there was no way that I could allow her to hurt Renesmee like that and not get away with it.
"You'll never catch me, so I would give up if I were you" she told me as another verge appeared in the distance. I then started to think about how far I was willing to run after Jane; but before I could think about this any further Jane quickly lunged forward and jumped over the cascade and landed just over my family's border.
"Never say never!" I warned her and I also lunged forward and went to jump. However as I started to fly threw the air Edward appeared out of nowhere and grabbed hold of me and pulled me back onto our side of the border.
"Edward let me go!" I growled as I started to fight to be free from his arms.
"No!" he snapped as he kept his strong arms around me and began to drag me away from the ledge.
"NOW!" I shouted in a frenzy. "I need to-" I began.
"No Bella" he said calmly as he cupped the left hand side of my face with his right hand, attempting me to look into his eyes to calm me down. "Bella look at me!" he begged as I kept my eyes on Jane, who was currently grinning and slowly waving at me in a teasing fashion. "Look at me!" he snapped and this broke my resolve and I looked into his eyes. When I looked into his eyes I started to calm down; this was the thing about Edward - he always knew how to calm me down and make me feel better. Even in situations like this; part of me wanted to push him away and make Jane pay for hurting our daughter. But the calmness in his eyes were putting me into a state of ease where I could feel my anger towards Jane was slipping away - for the moment. "Calm down, this isn't the way" he finished as he stroked my cheek slowly with his thumb.
"I would listen to your husband if I was you" I heard Jane state, which caused my head to snap back in her direction.
"Grr!" I growled as I went to step towards her, but I was stopped by Edward pulling me back to him.
"Jane-" he started. "I don't know why you are doing this; but we can act peacefully" he stated, and we both watched as she laughed at us as I placed my hands against his chest.
"We'll see" she chuckled before she turned around and quickly ran off. The scene then went silent; it felt as if time stood still. My mind then relieved what had just transpired; I started to fill with panic and dread at the fact I didn't know how Renesmee was. Yes she was part vampire; but given the fact that she was also part mortal I didn't know how her body was going to react to such an injury. I needed to get back to her; I needed to see her! I needed to see what Jane had done to my perfect little girl.
"Renesmee" I muttered as I pulled away and looked up at him. "We need to get back to her" I said I began to panic as my mind started to spitefully show me Renesmee lying motionless on the ground. Thankfully I was broken out of my train of thought as I saw Edward nod, we then dropped our arms from each other and took a step away from each other. We both then began to run back towards our family, with me being extremely nervous at what I was about to find waiting for me.
