Kelly looked up from the squad table as he heard Gabby say hi to AnnaBeth. He sat up straight and put down the cards he was holding. AnnaBeth hardly ever stopped by the firehouse and he was finishing his shift within the next 30 minutes, so he was concerned.
"Is everything ok?" He asked as she walked over.
It was only then that he noticed she had a small suitcase with her. He raised an eyebrow and looked at her expectantly.
"I just came to tell you that I've booked a hotel and we've got an appointment with a realtor" She told him.
"We can do that" He said putting his hands on her shoulders "But we don't need to stay at a hotel"
"Oh, you can stay where you like" She told him "But I am not spending another night there"
"Casey said they're arresting Nesbit everything's going to be fine" He reassured her.
"So help me I'm going to lose it" She told him, he had never seen her so worked up before she was always carefree and positive "I can't spend another night there, I walk to the kitchen and all I can think about is that poor woman who died"
All in one day AnnaBeth had found out that he'd had a close call at a warehouse fire with Dawson and that Matt had been working undercover with CPD looking into human trafficking. A woman Katya who worked at the club Matt had been working at had been shot in their apartment. AnnaBeth had been on edge ever since.
Kelly just put his arms around her. He knew the last few days had been a lot for her.
"We have 4 police officers in Bluebell because nothing bad ever happens there" She said shaking her head "The thought of raising our baby here is just driving me crazy, I know you need to be here so at the very least I need to get out of that apartment"
"Wait" He said looking down at her "Our baby, did you…?"
AnnaBeth just nodded wiping a tear from her eye as a smile spread across her face.
"Why didn't you say something?" He asked picking her up and kissing her.
"I was going to" She told him "Just with everything that's been going on It was hard to bring up, I wasn't exactly planning on blurting it out like that either, but I can't do secrets or stress"
"I can't believe it" He said setting her down on the ground and kissing her again.
It wasn't something he would have planned, especially not so soon. But the joy he felt when she told him they were having a baby was indescribable. The only person he'd planned on having a child with was Shay. He had been excited and honoured that she had asked him to raise a baby with her. After that he hadn't thought about it much. Meeting AnnaBeth and marrying her had been the best thing that had ever happened to him, but this was even better.
"How far along are you?" He asked taking her hand.
"The Doctor said six weeks" She replied "I was going to tell my parents and Lemon, if you're ok with us telling people"
"I want to tell everyone" He told her.
AnnaBeth was surprised when Kelly led her through into the common room. It felt like being announced as his wife all over again. They hadn't been together long, but it had been life changing for her. She had always struggled in relationships. Things were so easy with them. It wasn't perfect, she wasn't even sure Chicago was her dream. But more than ever it all felt worth it.
"I know everyone wants to get home" He said as everyone was getting ready to leave and the next shift was taking over "But we wanted to tell you all, that AnnaBeth is pregnant, I'm going to be a Dad"
"Dammit" Otis said "I told you we needed to start another pool"
"Seriously?" Sylvie asked slapping him up the back of the head.
"I mean congratulations" Otis said to them both.
"That's amazing" Matt said giving her a hug before patting Kelly on the shoulder "Congratulations"
"I'm so happy for you both" Gabby told her.
AnnaBeth smiled as all of Kelly's family at 51 congratulated him and cracked jokes. She still hadn't met his family, but it was clear that's who they all were to him. She made a mental note to tell Kelly that if Lemon ever asked to tell her that they told her first. She would have the meltdown to end all meltdown's if she thought that they had told Kelly's friends before her.
She felt lighter and happier, but there was still no way in hell she was going to go back to Matt's apartment. They needed their own space, to really start a life together.
