Sports Nuts

Much like their family, Jack Dickson and Frank Drilovsky were thick as thieves growing up together. They were always playing sports as kids and were usually amazing when they worked together. To make things even, they were out on different teams. By the time they had gotten to high school, they both were in the same football team together. Jack ended up becoming the quarterback while Jack was a wide receiver. Throughout the school, everyone knew that they were champs but also that they were respectable. This made them a force to be reckoned with, whenever someone messed with them or their family. Every year their team managed to go to the state championships and win twice in their freshman and sophomore years. Their junior year they lost to another team, but swore to win it for their senior year.

Apart from their football, they both participated in separate forms of martial arts. Frank was a student of Krav Maga and Jack was a student of Kung fu. They each learned their abilities from their respective parents. Whenever they weren't in their football season, they worked at dojos for their respective martial arts forms. Unfortunately, Jack would still occasionally have to deal with Eva's overprotective nature towards him.

"I don't care how old you are, Jack, you're still my baby brother." Eva says.

"My god, you won't let me grow up will you?" Jack asks in a sarcastic tone.

"Never." Eva sarcastically replies.

"Well you'll definitely hate this then. This Saturday me and Frank are gonna be in the Octagon fighting each other." Jack informs her.

"Well… for you I'll go. Maybe I'll even bring Scott with me." Eva says.

"Ugh. You're still dating that fucking guy?" Jack asks in a disgusted tone.

"I don't see what your problem with him is." Eva says.

"He just rubs me wrong, I don't know what you see in him." Jack answers.

"Well he's not your boyfriend, he's mine. I'm more concerned that you're gonna wind up with concussion or something." Eva replies.

"We're gonna be fine. There's rules to follow, and me and Frank are friends so it's not like we're gonna try and actually kill each other." Jack informs her.

Two days later was the match, and everyone was excited to watch the match. Jack had his parents, sister, aunt, uncle, and cousins in his corner. Frank had his parents, brother, and uncles in his corner. Jack looked over to see that Eva had brought her boyfriend Scott to the match.

"Fan-fucking-tastic." Jack says.

"Hey don't worry about it too much. He hurts her, and we'll kick his ass together. She spent so much time looking after us when we were little, it's about time we returned the favor." Patrick says.

"Yeah you're right. Well let's focus on the match, we'll deal with that after." Jack says.

Twenty minutes later, the referee stands between the two boys as they bow to each other.

The first round is slow as both of them know never to rush their respective opponent. They each wait for an opening, which Frank manages to obtain. He manages to aim a kick and sweep towards Jack's ankle and bring him to the ground where he can use moves that go in his favor. As a result of using his ground fighting advantage.

During the second round, Jack is careful not to get low to the ground and give Frank the advantage. He manages to keep the round in his favor, delivering blows to the side and stomach. By the end, he has Frank winded from taking kicks and punches.

In the final round, Frank manages to get Jack back in the ground. However due to his difficulty breathing, Jack manages to come out victorious in the round. This allows for Jack to win the match. He helps Frank up and the two exit the Octagon, where they are greeted by their football coach.

"Hey, Coach Burkead. You saw the match?" Jack asks.

"I did. Nice job, boys. Now you guys are gonna be okay for conditioning in August, right? I want you both to finish strong for your senior year." Coach Burkhead says to them.

"Yeah it would be a nice way to finish my high school career." Jack says.

"Well I know the talent scouts are already gonna be looking at camp and practices, so you got a good shot of being recruited." Coach Burkhead.

"Well let's not jinx it, Coach. You know I don't like ego going to the head." Jack says.

"True. Well anyway, congratulations boys." He leaves and allows the boys to see their families.

"Hey, good job bud." Chad hugs his son.

"Thanks dad." Jack says.

"Hey maybe you could become a cop with those skills." Hoagie suggests.

"Nah I'm actually looking to go to college and hopefully get recruited." Jack informs his uncle.

"To each their own I guess. What about you, Frank? What are you looking to do after graduation?" Hoagie asks.

"I'm actually planning on going into the Marines." Frank answers.

"I still wanna talk to you about how you're gonna do that." Fanny says.

"Fanny, I'll have a talk with him. And Chad, I'd like you there as well." Patton says to them.

"Talk to me about what?" Frank asks.

"We wanna make sure your mind's in the right place to do so, whether you're enlisted or an officer. We want you to understand what you're getting into before you go to Parris Island." Patton says.

"But we can talk about that later, let the boys have their moment." Chad says.

"Thanks dad. And thank you to everyone for coming." Jack says looking at everyone.

A few weeks later, the two had begun their conditioning for their final football season in high school. Angus was especially nervous because he knew people would be scouting for him. By the end of conditioning camp, he had already been considered for Notre Dame and the University of Michigan. Though he felt that Michigan was better for him and most likely to give him the scholarship he desired.

Going into the season, the football team was doing extraordinarily well with their season. For the first time in twenty years, the school's team went undefeated going into the playoffs.

"Alright ladies, listen up! We had a perfect season, but don't let that go to your head! We gotta play two more games to make it to the state championship! Now I don't wanna see any slacking out there!" Coach Burkhead told his team, who always took his word to heart.

Going into the first game, the team had managed to defeat Roanoke in a massive blowout, 36-10. This was mainly due to their number 1 quarterback injuring his hamstring.

The next game against Lynchburg was far closer and much more intense. It was a high scoring shootout that ended going into overtime. The final score was 45-42. Jack manages to get both rushing touchdowns as well Frank gaining a new record for most receiving yards by a wide receiver in the state. In overtime, the kicker secured the victory with a game winning field goal.

To say that the two were stressed about how the championship was gonna go was an understatement. This was going to be their final game of their high school career, so they wanted to make it count. At their insistence, they told their families not to throw a party for them until after they went all the way as opposed to after every game.

The day of the game finally had come, and they were facing off against Chesapeake. All their friends and family had come in attendance to support them.

The game had started off in the first quarter in Chesapeake's favor with a score of 7-3. No points were scored in the second quarter. By halftime, Jack had become nervous about how the game was gonna go, but his teammates had managed to build up his confidence enough for him to improve on his rushing and passing. By the end of the third quarter, the game was now tied 17-17. In the fourth quarter, Jack threw Frank the final touchdown and two point attempt, winning the game 27-28. Jack was named MVP of the game that day and was allowed to keep the game ball, which he claimed to share with Frank.

Celebrating with their families, Jack and Frank took a moment to themselves on the porch at Frank's house.

"Hell of a way to end a career, Frank." Jack says.

"And a hell of a milestone in a long career for you, Jack." Frank says.

"We gotta remember this. Before and after you do basic training we gotta toss this around." Jack insists.

"Oh there was no question that that wouldn't happen." Frank replied.

The two were glad to see their high school football careers end with a bang. And even with their career paths they were choosing, they knew that they were brothers in arms and would still stay close.

End of the chapter. I hope you all enjoy the next generation of kids growing up. The next chapter is going to be about Sonya and Lee's daughters and Michael McKenzie in Hollywood. Until then, enjoy reading this. And Merry Christmas!
