"I really don't know about this Andie." Nix said as she looked herself up and down in the mirror.
"Why? You look amazing." Andie replied as she pinned back Nix's hair so it was in a half up half down hairstyle.
Nix didn't feel as if she looked amazing, she felt as if she was overdressed and underdressed at the same time.
Andie's insistence that the transfers should all go out to celebrate passing the first stage had received positive responses, Sarah that had barely said a word to either of them throughout training until today during the war games with Nix had agreed immediately, even Tracey, Tom, another two candor transfers named Perry and Michael, Michael who had been the only transfer from Eric's group to make it into the second stage had commented that they were 'totally celebrating'.
"Okay we're ready, let's go." Andie said excitedly and started to head for the door, Nix hesitated before she looked up at her reflection in the mirror.
She was wearing something Andie had picked out for her from the clothing store which they'd visited and spent almost forty five minutes in after they'd seen the results, before they'd got there Sarah had asked if she could go with them to which Andie had asked 'wouldn't you rather go with your candor buddies?' and Nix had told her 'of course' before she could respond then looked at Andie and gave her a look to say 'be nice'.
Nix had had no idea what to choose to wear when they got there and Andie's initial displeasure at Sarah going with them disappeared as she enthusiastically took it upon herself to find something for her.
It turned out that Sarah was a lot nicer than they'd thought, much nicer than the other candor transfers, she was very easy to talk to and get along with and she had a lot in common with Andie.
The dress Nix ended up with was, what Andie informed her 'a chic skater dress', whatever that meant.
Nix had been filled with dread the moment she saw it, it was black, backless and sleeveless with skinny straps and it came to her mid thigh.
She'd never worn something so short or exposing before, something which Andie had found very funny.
Even with her initial thoughts on it she had to admit to herself that deep down there WAS something that she liked about it, maybe because it was actually the only one out of a bunch that she didn't immediately blush at when she saw it, despite that however, it had still taken some convincing from Andie before she was finally persuaded to get it.
One of the conditions she had for taking it was that she would get to wear tights with it, her back was going to be completely bare and she didn't want her legs to be too, Andie had rolled her eyes at this and told her that the dress would look so much better with her bare legs as she had a lovely olive complexion.
"You're lucky you're not as pale as me! If I had your colour I'd have my legs out everyday!" She had went on to say but Nix was adamant she was wearing tights or she wouldn't even be going out, Andie had then let out a dramatic sigh in reluctance but dropped it and showed her where the tights were.
Nix was disappointed not to find any plain black ones, the only ones available were ones that the woman behind the counter called suspender tights, Nix had held a pair in her hands then looked at a mannequin that was wearing them for display, "These are rather...suggestive."
The woman behind the counter had scoffed and replied, "That's the point."
Her eyes had widened at that statement which made Andie laugh until Nix gave her a look of despair.
"Oh Nix, it's not as bad as you think." she'd said before wrapping an arm around her shoulder, "Let's just get them and you can try them on with your dress back in the dorm...it might not be that big of a deal."
Nix had no choice but to agree with her and got both the dress and the tights before they left to head back to their dorm.
She'd decided to not wear the tights as once she'd tried them on they looked VERY suggestive!
The dress wasn't long enough to cover the pattern and when she sat down it revealed even more than she liked, Perry had given her a whistle followed by a 'damn stiff' and that was the decider for her.
She just wasn't comfortable wearing them, she'd have to just deal with going out bare legged...she'd done it before, in abnegation, it wasn't really much different, right?
It was different, in abnegation she wore dresses and skirts that came to her ankles, not above her knee!
She let out a long sigh at the outfit which was paired with ankle boots that had a heel just shy of a few inches high, Andie had tried to get her to buy high heels when they were in the shop but she'd given her a firm no, she'd spotted the boots before she was about to leave after being unable to find any shoes she thought was suitable, she'd been prepared to just wear her training boots much to Andie's horror but luckily the ankle boots caught her eye where they were hidden behind something.
She glanced at the HUGE high heels Andie was wearing, they made her legs look even longer than they were and the heels of the shoes were so skinny that Nix was scared they would snap if the girl moved the wrong way.
She looked back at her face in the mirror, at the make-up she was wearing, another requirement according to Andie who along with Sarah and Tracey were wearing it.
Nix knew she would probably have to wear some of it anyway to hide her injured face but that was all, she hadn't expected to wear anything other than the cover up that was all over her face.
She thought it was amazing how different everyone looked with it on, especially herself, her eyes weren't nearly as dark and noticeable as Andie's or the others, she'd asked Andie to apply it very subtly as it was the first time she'd ever worn it and the girl had managed to do something really nice with a lovely lavender colour.
"Come on Nix!" Andie called from the entrance of their dorm where she was stood with Sarah who was the only one that had waited on them to leave, with another sigh, Nix reluctantly headed for them.

"Oh cheer up." Andie said as they walked through a tunnel.
They were headed to a club that was across the far end of the pit and Nix was extremely nervous about it, she'd never been in a club before...she never even knew what it was until Andie had explained it to her, she'd also never drunk alcohol before which Andie had promised there would be a lot of and what she was most excited about, 'dancing was more fun with it!' according to her, she'd been to many gatherings in amity where there was music and alcohol but 'music and alcohol in dauntless would be so much better!'.
No one in abnegation drank alcohol or danced to music at gatherings, gatherings were government meetings.
Nix and Sarah both had to move quickly to keep up with Andie, it was surprising to her that the girl could walk so fast and straight in the giant shoes she had on her feet.
"I am cheered." Nix said once she was by Andie's side walking again and Sarah gave her a look as if to say 'what?', "What I mean is, I don't need to...I'm not down."
"Really?" Sarah asked.
"Because we've just passed the first stage of our training." Andie then said before Nix could reply.
"And you won us that game of catch the flag." Sarah added.
"Really?" Andie asked, again, before Nix could reply.
"Yeah! I was her plan that we followed." Sarah said and grinned at Nix, "Well done again by the way, it was awesome."
"Thanks." Nix found herself shyly replying.
"I didn't know that." Andie replied in a shocked way, "Is that why all those dauntless born were praising you earlier?"
"She's a legend to them now!" Sarah said in response.
"No I'm not." Nix said with a shake of her head, "All I did was put in an idea, a lot of other people did too."
"Yeah but yours was the only logical one AND you stepped up when everyone else was arguing about what to do." Sarah replied then smiled.
Nix opened her mouth to speak but couldn't find any words to say, instead she just shrugged.
"Wow." Andie said, her tone wasn't very enthusiastic, it actually sounded quite flat but when Nix looked her way she smiled brightly, "That's great Nix, I bet it got you good points with Four."
"What do you mean by that?" Sarah asked immediately with a frown.
"Nothing." Andie replied after a beat with a frown of her own, "If she stepped up like you said-"
"And took charge." Sarah cut her off to say, "She totally did."
"Then that's great." Andie said a little abruptly, "Four would have seen that and that she could be a valuable member."
Nix had listened to the girls silently, looking at Andie mostly, she wasn't sure why but the whole vibe from her just seamed slightly off now.
Andie looked at her and smiled as she said, "That really is great Nix, you should be proud."
Nix was silent for a long moment before she shrugged and smiled back, "Yeah, I guess I am proud...a-and I'm not, miserable."
"You sure?" Andie asked.
"Yeah, I'm just...I'm worried, about this evening. I've never been to a gathering in a club before." she said and rubbed her hands together.
"Don't be silly Nix, it's a celebration, you don't have to worry about it...you're going to enjoy yourself! Trust me." Andie said with a grin and she suddenly looked excited, the weird vibe from her was now gone.
"She's right." Sarah added and Nix looked at her, she then looked down briefly before she shrugged, "I mean, well, I don't know that...I've never been in a club before either, but I've had alcohol before and that was fun."
"Of course it was fun." Andie said with a smile, "And it'll be fun where we're going."
"I feel very uncomfortable." Nix whispered a beat later, more to herself than either of the girls.
"Is it because you're not wearing the tights?" Andie asked and Nix shook her head.
"It's the whole outfit." she said after she'd glanced down her body.
"There's nothing wrong with it." Sarah replied before Andie could.
"Yeah, you look cute." Andie added and Nix made a face at her, "And what I mean by that is...you look 'hot'."
"I'm not wearing a bra Andie, it's...indecent." Nix replied in a hushed voice, Andie and Sarah both laughed at her and she narrowed her eyes at them.
"It's HOT." Andie said with a grin and Nix groaned, "Relax Nix, you're actually pretty covered up in comparison to myself, Sarah and...probably the majority of the women in the place we are going to."
Sarah nodded and gestured to herself, she was wearing high waist leather short shorts and a cropped top with a zipper down the middle, it was leather too.
On her feet she had these lovely heeled suede boots that came to just below her knees and she wore long thin black socks that were up to her thighs.
Nix cleared her throat as she looked at them both briefly.
"Yeah but, my whole back is exposed." she replied in a bewildered way then lowered her voice to say, "And my legs-"
"Hello? Have you seen me?" Andie cut her off to say, "My legs, my apples and my back are all exposed...I'm practically half naked! You're fine, stop worrying about nothing."
"I'm just not used to dressing like this." Nix said after a beat, she'd made a face at the 'apples' comment which Sarah had openly laughed at.
Andie stopped and wrapped an arm around her shoulders then said before giving her a smile, "Listen to me Nix, you're beautiful, inside and out...I know that seventeen years in abnegation has made you believe otherwise but trust me...you really are."
Nix found that she couldn't help but smile back at that, she wasn't used to compliments especially from someone who was all tall and gorgeous with thick auburn hair like Andie was.
Sarah who was also tall and beautiful nodded with Andie in agreement just as Andie continued with, "And another thing...I wish I had small boobs like you because I'd never be able to pull off that dress like you are."
Sarah laughed loudly as Nix's mouth opened, she then stared up at Andie as they began to walk again, "I don't know if I should be offended or flattered."
"Definitely the latter." Andie told her with a grin as they walked across the pit towards the loud pulsing music and flashing colourful lights that were coming from one of the tunnels.
"Oh yeah, the last part." Sarah said with a nod.
There were whistles and cheers directed at them from some of the men that were part of a crowd watching a fight that was taking place, Andie glanced at them then looked at Nix and Sarah to roll her eyes, Nix smiled at her then looked at the tunnel they were heading for as Sarah giggled.
It wasn't surprising Andie and Sarah were getting looked at and appreciated as they did look fantastic but the very short dress Andie was wearing showed a lot more skin than, well...fabric really.
She had on a dark maroon dress that had a black floral laced pattern and it clung to her body like a second skin, it was strapless and had a plunging neckline that showed off a LOT of cleavage and it also dipped to her lower back.
That dress paired with her black skyscraper heels and her flaming hair swept up in a beautifully messy knot on top of her head was enough to make anyone stare, Nix hoped the dress wouldn't malfunction on her at some point during the evening.
"We're almost there!" Andie said excitedly and did a little hop which Nix was very nervous but also impressed with.
"Please don't fall and break your ankle." she replied as she looked at Andie's feet.
"I won't." she said with a smirk as they walked into the tunnel and the music was suddenly very loud.
Nix swallowed as they approached a set of double doors that some dauntless members had just walked through, it was a group of two men and two woman and those woman were showing lots of skin like Andie and Sarah were.
Nix had half expected to find that she, Andie and Sarah had dressed up only to see everyone dressed casually since that's what the dauntless were always dressed like however when they walked through the double doors it was obvious she was mistaken.
There were hundreds of people in the club and the woman that she could see were dressed up too, Nix understood immediately what Andie had meant about her being covered up when she'd said she felt exposed, everyone around them had short outfits on.
The music was like nothing she'd heard before, it was loud and seamed to pulsate through her body where she stood, there was crowds of people standing around in groups, lots of people were sat either in pairs or groups in booths that were situated all around the enormous room, there were people standing around the long bar area and lots of bodies were on what she assumed was the dance floor moving to the beat of the music.
The whole thing was very overwhelming.
"Come on girls let's get a beer!" Andie shouted to them over the music and made her way towards the bar, Nix with along with Sarah followed her and Nix was shocked when she saw her push through people to get to the actual bar itself, some men turned around to clearly give her some form of abuse but when they properly looked at her it was obvious anger was no longer on their minds, they began chatting with her immediately and had her laughing.
Sarah gave Nix an eye roll before she laughed and moved to join in.
"Nix!" A voice called her name loudly and she turned around to see who it was but she was lifted off the ground before she could, the person holding her gave her a bone crushing hug and laughed in her ear, she let out a small 'ow' at the pain she suddenly felt before she was swiftly set on her feet and was met with the grinning face of Mac.
A smile broke out on her own face, "Mac?!"
"Who did you think it was?" he asked with a grin and she surprised herself by instantly pulling him in for another hug, he laughed and hugged her back tightly, "It's good to see you!"
"And it's so great to see you!" she told him seriously before they separated, "I'm sorry, I had planned on coming to visit you-"
"That's alright, I know initiation can be time consuming." he told her with a smile before she could finish then he looked her up and down and put a hand over his heart, "You look stunning!"
"Thank you." she replied with a blush after a beat, she'd thought about explaining how she didn't fully agree with him but decided against it and it felt nice and stress free to just accept the compliment.
"Celebrating?" he asked with a brow raised and she nodded.
"Yeah it was my friend's idea." she said and pointed at Andie who was now walking with Sarah towards her, they each had a small glasses in their hands, "We made it through the first stage of training without being kicked out or dying."
"Was that a joke stiff?" Mac asked with a laugh and she half smiled at him.
"Thanks for stepping in to rescue me Nix." Andie said sarcastically with a grin once she appeared, she handed Nix a glass that was short and had some brownish yellow liquid in it.
"Rescue you? I didn't realize you needed me too. Wasn't Sarah with you?" Nix said as she examined the glass she held, she smelled it and made a face as Andie was saying 'Sarah was no help at all' and before Sarah could respond to that Nix asked, "What is this?"
"Wow! You look...well...just wow. I have no other words." Mac suddenly said as he looked both Andie and Sarah up and down wide eyed...mainly Andie.
"Thank you." Andie said with a grin then glanced at Nix with a 'are you going to introduce us?' face whilst Sarah just stood there.
"Oh sorry...Andie, Sarah this is Mac, Mac...Andie and Sarah." she said to them both.
"Hi." Sarah said with a smile.
"Mac!" Andie beamed at him then went on to say, "You're the guy that cut her hair."
Mac laughed and replied, "That's me."
"Totally awesome, really suits her." Andie said and he nodded.
"I think so." he replied.
"Bottoms up Nix." Sarah said and clinked her glass against Nix's one in her hand so she almost dropped it but instead she only spilled some of it down her hand, Andie nodded then placed her one at her lips along with Sarah and they both threw their heads back and the liquid disappeared, they both exclaimed with briefly screwed up faces then grinned at each other then her.
"Tasty, come on Nix...down it." Andie said.
"I don't know what it is." Nix replied as she examined the drink in her hand.
"You'll like it." Sarah said.
"Where's the salt and lime?" Mac asked with a raised brow.
"Oh it's too crowded in here for that." Andie said with a smile.
"Salt and lime? With this?" Nix said and held up the glass.
"Haven't you ever heard of a tequila shot Nix?" Mac asked and she shook her head.
"Shot?" she asked.
"Hello? She's from abnegation." Andie muttered to Mac with a 'duh?' face.
"This is the first alcoholic drink I've ever had...or will have." Nix replied after frowning slightly at what Andie said and Mac's eyes widened as he asked 'first?'.
"Didn't you think a bottle of beer would have been better?" Mac asked Andie and Sarah, the girls just shrugged, he then turned to Nix and smiled, "It's best just to toss it back and get it over with then, depending on how it goes, I can get you something a little more mellow for your next one."
Nix stared at the three of them briefly then copied what the girls had done from before, the drink ran down her throat and her whole body shivered after, she looked at each of them when the after taste appeared.
"It's nice right? Shall we get another, we can get a good buzz from around three or four of these." Andie said and Nix's eyes widened slightly.
"Uh, maybe something a little...mellower." she replied and Andie rolled her eyes as Sarah and Mac laughed.
"I'll get you a beer." he said as he wrapped an arm around her shoulders, he then looked at Andie and Sarah, "You can't just throw her into the deep end like that you know, you have to ease her into it...poor girl's never had a drink before."
"That's why we threw her in!" Andie replied and the three of them laughed.
"I am stood right here." Nix said a little sharper than intended and Mac pulled her into him more.
"We're only messing little one." he said before he released her, "Beer girls?"
"Yeah." Andie said with a shrug then glanced at Sarah who nodded, Mac started to head for the bar but pointed to a table across the room that had a few people sitting at it.
"Go over to my table and take a seat, I won't be long." he said to Nix and she nodded before she looked at both the girls, "That drink was...interesting."
"You didn't like it?" Andie asked as she began heading for the table that Mac had mentioned, Nix and Sarah followed her.
"It wasn't terrible just...very different to anything I've had before." she replied.
Sarah smiled at her, "That's alcohol for you."
"Of course it's different, it's alcohol!" Andie said then with a giggle added, "Oh Nix, you're so innocent. My little stiff."
Nix halted at that last part and Sarah noticed, she turned to her and asked, "What's up?"
Nix watched as Andie continued to walk away from them, "Everyone here calls me a stiff."
"Everyone but her." Sarah finished for her a beat later then offered her another smile before she said gently, "She doesn't mean anything by it."
"I know, just." Nix replied and thought back to that night after training when Andie had called her a stiff, she'd meant something by it then and yeah she'd apologised for it but, it still stung slightly, "She's just the only person that never said it."
Sarah smiled sympathetically and said, "You're not abnegation anymore."
"Well...there's still stage two to pass." Nix replied then shrugged.
"What are you two doing?" Andie's voice somehow managed to capture their attention from where she was halfway across the room, she'd sat herself in between two men, "Come on."
"Let's go." Nix said to Sarah and began to walk, the girl was at her side immediately.
"Don't let it bother you." she said then wrapped her arm around Nix's back, "Yeah?"
Nix managed to smile as she said, "I won't."
