Chapter 14- The People Skye Doesn't Hate

"Okay, everything's going to be fine," Skye said to herself as she started to shiver. She lifted her phone but there was no reception. "D-Dad will notice I'm not at the benefit. He'll come back and g-get me out. He loves m-me and he'll s-save m-me." She sat down in the boathouse and rubbed her hands together. "Sure, he knew ab-about me and didn't w-want to k-keep me… but it's di-different now." She frowned. "Or maybe now th-that he knows m-me, he thinks I'm cr-crazy and I blew it with Mon-Monica. Maybe I m-messed up everything…"

Three hours later, the benefit was over. Alan kept looking around for Skye but figured when AJ told him that she forgot something that she opted not to go. Even Jax was looking for her and wondered why she hadn't returned his texts or calls. Alan didn't have an answer for him, but Jax said he wanted to come home with them to check on Skye.

When they returned home, Alice nor any of the staff had seen Skye since they left, and she wasn't answering her cellphone. Alan was growing increasingly concerned and guilty for not questioning why she hadn't arrived sooner.

"Could she be with Lorenzo Alcazar?" he suggested. "Perhaps we should contact him."

Jax raised an eyebrow. "Lorenzo Alcazar?"

"I saw her at the Port Charles Hotel with him the other day," AJ said. "I told him to stay away from her."

"If he does anything to hurt her—" Alan started but Monica touched his arm.

"I'm sure she's just fine and just crying wolf so you'll notice her," Monica said. "Don't worry for another second about her."

Alan walked over to the phone regardless.

"Lorenzo Alcazar," Lorenzo said when he picked up.

"Hello, this is Alan Quartermaine. Have you seen or heard from Skye? I need you to tell me the truth."

"No. Why?"

"She didn't show up to the benefit and we can't find her anywhere. She won't answer her phone, and no one has seen her."

"I haven't seen her either, but I'll try to find her."

"If you're lying to me, then we're going to come after you with everything we have!"

"I'm not lying. But I will find her." Lorenzo hung up.

"I'll try ELQ," AJ offered and pulled out his phone.

"I'll go search the grounds," Jax said and hurried out the door.

"I'm calling the police," Alan said.

"The police?" Monica stared at him. "Really? She hasn't been missing for 24 hours and she isn't under 18. The police won't do anything."

Skye hugged her body as tightly as she could. Frost sticking to her skin. She looked around but there was no window, and she didn't hear a sound outside. It was growing darker by the minute.

"N-no one will even n-notice I'm gone. I b-bet Daddy would… be h-happy there's one l-less kid in h-his will… H-hayley… and J-Junior and Col-Colby get everything." She felt her eyes well up. "All I w-wanted w-was Daddy…"

"Gin." John laid his cards down in front of Rae and Myrtle.

Rae wasn't much paying attention throughout their card game.

Myrtle shook her head. "You win again? And you've never played before? Beginner's luck I tell you."

John smiled. "I like to think it was skill, Mrs. Fargate."

"Oh, skill, baloney. You just got the right cards."

Ring. Ring.

As John and Myrtle continued to bicker about the cards, Rae went to answer her phone. "Hello?"

"Rae, it's Alan. Have you seen or heard from Skye?"

"No. Why? Is she okay?"

Alan sighed. "We can't find her."

The colour started to drain from Rae's face. "What do you mean you can't find her? For how long?"

"For almost four hours. She was planning to attend a benefit with us. She told AJ she was staying behind to get something and would meet us there. She never showed. She hasn't answered any of Jax's calls either, and Lorenzo hasn't heard from her."

"Lorenzo?"

"I'm really worried about her, Rae. She won't pick up her cell phone and she's gotten involved with some mobsters."

"Wait, what? You mean, other than the shooting on the docks?"

"She started dating Lorenzo Alcazar," Alan said. "A mob boss."

"Excuse me? It's only been a few days since I've seen her. I thought she was dating Jax."

"I thought so too, but AJ saw her on a date with Alcazar."

"So, do you think he's done something to her? Or one of his enemies?"

"I don't know," Alan said. "I would call the police to go question him, but it hasn't been 24 hours and Skye is over 18."

"All right, well I'm on my way," Rae said.

"Wait, what if she goes to your place? You should be there to receive her."

"I'm not so sure she will, but Mama or John will be here if she does."

"All right, I'm going to call Adam Chandler next," Alan said.

"Okay, I'll be there as fast as I can." Rae hung up and turned to John and Myrtle who were staring at her. "Skye is missing, and no one knows where she is. I—I've got to go to Port Charles. Can the both of you stay here in case she comes home?"

"Myrtle can stay here," John spoke up. "I'm not letting you go alone."

Rae nodded and grabbed her coat.

Skye rocked back and forth trying to keep warm and started to cry softly. "Wh-why did I s-say those th-things to M-M-Mother? I d-deleted text… I d-don't want her to l-leave me… I-I-I d-didn't get… get to… t-tell her… I d-don't h-hate her… I-I have to… t-tell her…"

She looked down and realized she was sitting on a trapped door. She slowly got up and pulled it open.

"Oh-k-kay… go th-through the f-floor… out th-the lake…" She was never very good at swimming. But it was her only option to see the people she doesn't hate again.

She reached down and touched the water with her hand but yanked it back right away. She had never in her life contacted cold like that before. But, while she had shelter, she felt she would slowly freeze to death in that boathouse. If she just swam through the freezing water for a few minutes, she'd be out and could be warm at the Quartermaines' again.

She remembered in movies that they always took their coats and boots off before going into cold water, why she didn't know, but she figured it was for a good reason. So, she slowly removed her coat and boots.

She lowered her feet into the icy cold water and squeezed her eyes shut. She had to do this. She had to make things right with Jax, with the Dad, AJ, Lila, Daddy, Junior, Myrtle… Mother. All the people she didn't hate. And to see Uncle Stuart again, the only person she has ever truly loved on this planet. She dropped into the water with a splash and held onto one of the pillars. It was dark and cold, but what other choice did she have? She wanted to get home… home… She closed her eyes again and plunged into the freezing cold water.
