Author's Note (Monster): Hi guys. I've written about 2.5k words on the Golden Beast sequel so far and that's only the introduction part. The tone's gonna be a lot darker than the original work and it takes place a while before Danny's existence. Savage still needs some rewriting here and there. Enjoy.

Previously on Savage;

Charlie 'accidentally' called Danny during a conversation about Johnny's love for Danny.

Charlie's POV

"Life's a fucking bore now", I sighed, head hanging over the armrest of the couch, seeing the room upside down. Funny grasped my leg and startled me so I jolted back into a sitting position. "Dude!"

"I'm sitting right here!" Funny complained.

I shrugged, face plastered with confusion. "So?"

"How dare you call life boring with me here", he slapped my leg and I pulled them off his lap. "Come on, you know this house has been boring as fuck since… well since Danny and Johnny broke up."

"Miss flirting with Danny that much?" Funny pursed his lips. I chucked a pillow at him. "Don't get me started on your behaviour when the maids start their cleaning rounds, dude."

"What behaviour?" Funny scoffed. I shook my head. "You know why life's boring without Danny. Johnny's moping around the house like a lost little pup."

"Oh yeah, that's terrible. At least he was still happy when he was pining for Danny", Funny sighed.

"Exactly. Maybe in time, they'll…" I let my sentence trail off with the look Funny gave me. He was right. It was futile to speculate, to hope or maybe wish for a better end for the two of them. Who knows what could happen in the future?

"I wonder if Danny would forgive Johnny if he knew how much Johnny loved him", Funny hummed. He leaned back.

I shrugged. "Danny should know now that Johnny broke off the plans to mate. It was announced he loved another."

"Do you know Danny?" Funny chuckled. "I'm pretty sure he doesn't see the good in Johnny right now so he might not even realize it's him Johnny's thinking about."

"Fair point", I admitted.

There was a bored silence between us. There was nothing on tv and Johnny was a stick in the mud so most of the Beta pack had fled the house for today. Then it hit me.

A shit-eating grin split my face when I looked at Funny. "I know."

"What? Why are you looking at me with that creepy face?"

"Creepy? I'm smiling!" I complained.

"No, you're brewing a devious plan. That's creepy", Funny argued. I reached over to smack his head but he caught my wrist. "What's up? What did you realize?"

"We should give Danny a hand."

"Johnny commanded us not to talk to Danny about the situation", Funny warned me.

I shook my head. "I'm not going to talk to Danny about Johnny. Johnny's going to talk to Danny."

"How?"

"With a pocket dial", I suggested.

Funny raised an eyebrow. "Danny would never pick up the phone."

Then he jumped upright. "Hey wait! Why do you have his phone number anyway?!"

"For emergencies", I shrugged. "I got it after he tried to escape on the first night and got attacked by an Alpha pack."

"He what?"

"Your loyalty lies with Johnny, huh?" I teased. "Johnny's loyalty lies with me. His. Best. Friend."

"Why don't you mate him then!" Funny called out. He took the pillow I previously threw at him and pushed down on me with it. I laughed and shoved him off. "Danny would pick up the phone. He'd be far too curious to know what I was calling him for."

"Maybe", Funny admitted. "But if Johnny catches you, you're a dead man."

"Probably", I shrugged.

"So it's your plan?" Funny asked.

I pouted. "What? You don't wanna be my partner Cupid here?"

"Nah, babe, I'll defend you if Johnny finds out but you're on your own to go with it", Funny waved it off. I folded my arms. "I thought you'd be with me in hard times?"

"Wasn't I referring to sex with that?" Funny wondered.

I shoved him off the couch and left the room. Asshole. I'd carry out my plan on my own just fine. First, I called Danny and slipped my phone back into my pocket, walking innocently past Da Kurlzz and J-Dog who just got back from their walk outside. They eyed me suspiciously – or maybe that was just all in my head – but once past them, I thought Danny might not be able to hear Johnny's exact words from my pocket. I took the phone out and saw the timer running. He picked up the phone! Had to act quick before he hung up. I jumped into Johnny's office with my arms behind my back, phone in hand and hoping to startle Johnny but he wasn't even surprised to see me. "Hey boss!"

"Yes, Charlie?"
Damn, I'd hoped for a high-pitched shriek or something. Nah, wait, had to remember I was there to let Danny hear exactly what Johnny had to say.

"Why did you… break things off? You were gonna be mated. You were gonna be a council member! There was no one running against you", I asked.

Johnny sighed, looking up from his desk. He'd been drowning himself in work just to forget about his failed purpose of becoming a council member and losing his Omega. "Didn't you hear? It's all they seem to talk about when it comes to the election. I've sat through them calling it a scandal for way too long already."

Of course, I had heard it a ton of times, but Danny needed to hear it from Johnny personally. Plus the media could say whatever they wanted about Johnny. Didn't mean I had to believe them. Johnny never actually addressed the fact he broke off his plans to mate that Omega to us.

"You know I don't listen when they're talking tea."

"Fine. It's because of Danny."

He had his answer ready, knowing fully well I wouldn't just fuck off when he'd told me about the news segments. Maybe he actually needed to talk about it.

"Danny?" I repeated.

"In the first place it wouldn't have been honest to mate someone while my heart is with another."

"You love Danny", I stated. It was a known fact but Danny needed to hear it. Johnny never admitted it to us personally but ever since he first saw Danny, he changed.

"Of course, I love Danny", Johnny grumbled. "I think I've loved Danny from the moment he looked into my eyes that first night at the police station. From the unconsciousness and battle wounds to the small moments he was more or less awake, I knew he was the Omega I wanted to end up with. I became overwhelmingly persistent and drove him away. Years of waiting for the right moment to approach someone who hated an entire second gender has gone to waste because I made the wrong decision!"

He shoved his chair back to stand, knocking it to the floor. His words became more frantic and frustrated, mainly angry with himself, I knew. I knew Johnny. I knew how he worked and this was a prime example of turning his sorrow into self-directed anger.

"I wanted to rid this city of Alpha privileges to create a world for Danny and I to be happy in. Instead, I've become what I never wanted for him", he continued, nothing more than a whisper.

I cocked my head in sympathy. "No, Johnny, you're not… You could never be one of them. You've made a mistake. Who doesn't make mistakes?"

"Someone who runs the city can't afford to make mistakes", Johnny responded. "I tried to mate someone I didn't love. That's another mistake. It was a choice I didn't recognise myself in."

"So you decide to brood for the rest of your life? Just lock yourself in with work to try and forget about Danny's existence? What about making this world a better place for him?" I knew I was needlessly poking him, but he couldn't be swallowed by self-pity and forget about the goals he had worked so hard to obtain. The world needed more Alphas like Johnny and he needed to be there to make the difference for all oppressed Omegas and Betas. While Omegas lived the more obvious oppressed life, Betas didn't exactly live their best life either. There was a reason Betas stuck together. Betas were nobodies in society. Our Beta pack hid behind a kind and powerful Alpha for a reason.

"I need time to recollect myself after this. For once, I need to take care of myself. Danny's not as fragile as you'd think", there was a joyless chuckle. "Hell, he could kick my ass probably."

I smiled reminiscing of all the times Danny gave me a snarky remark. "He does have a fire in him, doesn't he?"

I knew I was doing the right thing by letting Danny hear all this, even if I wasn't sure if he hadn't already hung up. Johnny needed time to recollect himself, of course, but letting Danny know the truth couldn't hurt. Johnny was all about honesty after all.

"Promise me you won't tell Danny what's been said here", Johnny grumbled, eyes the familiar glow of a command burning to leave his throat. He didn't want to use it, but if I didn't promise, I knew he would.

"Why can't he know? And why do you think I'd tell him?"

"Because he doesn't need this. I know you. You always want to go behind my back to try and fix things for me, but you don't have to. Danny's safer without me."

I finally muttered the words between gritted teeth: "Okay. I promise."

Well… He was right about one thing. I always go behind his back to try and fix things for him.
