"Come on ma! Let's go!" Jess called out to Jane in annoyance. It was getting late and she had made Cailin a promise.

"Jessica Lynn, if you don't drop that tone we will sit here for another hour."

Riley couldn't help but laugh. "Watch it red. She's in a mood." Riley lightly punches Jess on the shoulder. "You know how your ma is when she gets on a case. She's like a dog following a blood trail. Would you like me to give you a ride?"

"It's fine," Jane says as she shuts off the computer in front of her. "It is getting late. I probably should get out of here. I think we've followed all the leads we can for tonight."

"Hey ma? Would it be okay if we stop off for some flowers? I would like to get some for Cailin." Riley's eyes went wide.

"You finally told her? It's about time!" Jess shot Riley a look that needed no words.

Jane quickly turns her head to her partner and decides to have some fun. "Told me what Coop?"

Riley shifted about nervously looking from Jane, to Jess, and back to Jane. "Um, you know, that you should get Cailin some flowers to make her feel better." Riley could see no out of this awkward situation.

"You know Ry, we've been partners for a really long time. Why don't you just cut the shit and be honest with me?"

Coop does her best to feign innocence. "I have no clue what you are talking about Rizzoli."

"The gig is up Coop. I already know. Don't keep any more secrets from me. Especially when it's involving my kids. Got it?"

"Sorry Jane. I didn't think it was my place," Riley says, her cheeks turning a deep red.

"I forgive you Coop. This time." Jane pats her partner on the back. "We'll talk about this later. For now, we've got to get to the hospital before it gets too late."

A few minutes later, Jane and Jess were both silent as they climbed into the car. After a minute of silence, Jane finally spoke. "You told me that you two were cutting it off Jess."

Jess looked at Jane and rolled her eyes.

Jane raised an eyebrow at the red head. "Why is it ever since my children are grown they think that means they can act like I haven't taught them respect. I know you did not just roll your eyes at me Jess."

Jess sighs. "Sorry ma, but you are being ridiculous. Just because I want to get Cailin flowers does not mean anything is going on. Have you never gotten flowers for people that are in the hospital? Besides ma, you heard Cailin."

Jane pauses to mull that over. She still wasn't sure she was buying it, but for now she would give Jess a pass.

Thirty minutes later, they were walking into the hospital, flowers in hand. Jane had picked up flowers for Maura as well.

When they walked in the room, a huge smile spread across Cailin's face. "Jess!"

Jess walks over and hugs the brunette, placing the flowers down on the tray in front of her. "I thought maybe these would cheer you up." Cailin's face instantly light's up.

"Thank you Jess," she says with a smile. She could feel Hope's eyes on her and Jess.

Jane pulls the flowers from behind her back and hands them to Maura. "These are for you," Jane says smiling.

"Aw Jane, you didn't have to do that," Maura remarks, bringing the flowers to her nose.

"I know, but I missed you today and I wanted to make you smile," Jane says shyly, becoming very aware of the others in the room when Jess and Cailin both "awed" in unison.

"Well thank you my sweet Jane, I love them and I love you," Maura says, quickly giving her wife a kiss.

"How are you feeling kiddo?" Jane looks at Cailin and smiles, giving her a tap on the foot.

"I'm feeling OK," Cailin replies. "Maura tried to give me hospital coffee this morning though," Cailin says with a grin.

Jane throws her hand to heart. "Damn Maura! Why would you do that to her?"

Maura shakes her head. "OK you two. I got the memo. No more hospital coffee. You are both right though. It is terrible."

Maura turns her attention back to Hope. "Mom, you haven't eaten anything since breakfast this morning. Why don't you, Jane, Jess, and I go to the cafe and get dinner and we can bring something back for Cailin?"

Cailin immediately interjects. "Can't Jess stay here with me? Please?"

Maura hesitates. At this point, her mom still didn't know and she didn't want it to be dumped on her unexpectedly. "I suppose that would be OK," Maura says, eying Jane.

Jane nods. "Yes, that would work. Cailin, is there anything in particular you are wanting?"

Cailin shakes her head. "No, anything is better than this hospital food," she says with a laugh. Surprise me. Not spaghetti and meatballs though. I had that for lunch."

Jane scoffs. "Wait, did my ma make you that?" Cailin laughed at the look on Jane's face.

"Yep, and it was awesome," Cailin remarked laughing.

"Did you eat it all, because if not, I'll take it. I haven't eaten all day and I've been bugging her to make it for me."

"Jane, leave Cailin alone. We are going right now to get something to eat. Can your stomach wait that long?" Maura smiles at her wife while picking up her purse.

"Hmm, I don't know, let's ask." Just then Jane's stomach grumbled loud. "My stomach says it can hold out for a few more minutes but after that, it's anybody's guess." Everyone in the room began laughing.

"Well Jane, had you not skipped lunch and breakfast you would not be so hungry and we would have not wasted," Maura looks at her watch, "5 minutes listening to your intestines." Maura's comment made Cailin laugh.

Before leaving, Jane walked over and whispered in Jess's ear. "Don't do anything I wouldn't do and if you do, I will know." With that Jane patted her daughter on the back before walking out into the hall.

As they made their way down the long hallway towards the elevators, Maura held Jane back a bit. "Should we have left Cailin and Jess alone?" Maura whispers for only Jane to hear.

Jane stops and looks at her wife. "C'mon Maur, how much trouble could they possibly get into in a hospital full of people?"

Maura looked at the brunette and raised her eyebrows. "Would you like me to show you how much trouble they can get into, even in a hospital full of people?" The blonde's tone was dangerous but playful. Jane's jaw dropped in surprise, her words caught in her throat.

Hope was standing holding the elevator doors open as she watched her daughter and her wife. "Are you two coming or am I going to have to stand here and be a door stop all night?"

Jane and Maura both looked at Hope then back to each other. "This conversation is not over," Jane says to Maura, as the blonde walks away. Maura threw a smirk over her shoulder at her wife.

Jane groaned and hurriedly caught up to the two women. As they entered the elevators, Hope's cell phone started to ring, which she immediately silenced. As the elevator started to move, her phone rang again as the person called right back. Hope quickly picked up the call.

"I can't talk to you right now. I'm with Maura." Maura and Jane watched while Hope listened to the person on the other end of the phone before speaking again. "Yes it's important. However, our daughter is important also."

Hope's hand immediately flew up to her mouth when she realized she had just screwed up. "I've got to go," she said quickly as she hung up the phone.

Jane and Maura both stood with their jaws dropped staring at Hope in disbelief. Tears sprang up in Maura's eyes. "How could you mother?"

"Maura, I can explain. I had to contact him." "Had to? You HAD to?" At this point the elevator doors had opened and several onlookers stared at Maura, as she was yelling.

"Please Maura. I promise I will explain. Not here though, please. We will talk at dinner." Maura glared at her mother. "You sure have been asking for a lot for someone who's hiding so much."

Maura knew her words were hitting their mark by the look on Hope's face. As the older woman stumbled over her words, Maura took off past the front desk and out the door. Jane looked in the direction her wife went and then back to her mother in law.

"You better have a damn good explanation for why you've hurt your daughter, my wife, again." Jane all but growled before taking off after her wife.

Jane found the blonde sitting on the sidewalk, her back pressed against the building, her face soaked with tears. She walked over and sat down next to her. She placed her arm around her wife and pulled her close.

Maura clung to Jane. "Why does she keep doing this?" Maura's voice cracked with each word. Jane rested her head against the blonde's. "I don't know love, but whatever her reason is, I'm here Maur. Everything will be okay."

Maura tried to smile. She knew Jane was only trying to offer her words of comfort and for the most part, it helped. However, she was still so angry with Hope for talking to Paddy behind her back.

"Why don't we get up off this cold ground and go to dinner and let Hope explain." Maura quickly looked up at Jane, almost head butting her in the chin. "What?" She was unsure if she heard her correctly.

"Look Maur, you are always telling me how you should always give someone a chance to explain themselves. You always say it doesn't do anyone any good to jump to conclusions. So just let her explain first. Okay? I don't know what's going on Maur but I do know your mom loves you. So whatever it is she's hiding, just know it comes from a place of love."

"She's right Maura," Hope muttered from the side. Jane and Maura both looked up at the older woman as she stepped closer. "Please come to dinner and let me explain. Once you know the truth, you can decide from there to hate me or not."

Jane stood up and held her hands out to her wife. "C'mon Maur, I know you're just as hungry as me. I heard your stomach complaining," Jane remarks with a grin.

Maura took her wife's hands and allowed the brunette to help her to her feet.

"OK love, let's go."

Back upstairs, Cailin and Jess had settled into watching TV. Neither was that into what they were watching though, as both had other things on their mind. Cailin muted the TV and was the first to speak.

"Jess, I know we made Jane and Maura a promise but I, I don't know…" That's all the brunette could manage to get out before she started to cry. "How can they do this to us Jess? It's not like we are doing anything wrong. I need you. I need you more than I have ever needed anyone. I'm going through so much right now and damn it, I need you."

Jess stood up and sat on the side of the bed next to Cailin. "Cailin, I love you. I love them also though. It's not fair. I don't want to choose." It was Jess's turn to start to cry. Cailin reached out, running her finger down the trail left behind by Jess's tears.

They stared at each other a moment, before slowly, their lips came together. They came apart a moment in hesitation, before kissing each other again, this time deeper and more passionate than before. As the moment heated up, Cailin's hands immediately started to wonder about Jess's body. As Jess pulled the brunette closer, she felt something and Cailin felt her pull away as her eyes widened.

"What's wrong Jess?" Cailin looked at the red head with concern in her eyes. "Cailin, what is that? What I felt on your chest?"

"That's a port. It's placed there to give me chemo or anything else I may need. They also can draw blood through it as well." Cailin was sure she could see all of the color drain from Jess's face.

She reached and took Jess's hand in hers. "It's OK Jess. You won't hurt me. I promise."

Jess shook her head. "It's not just that. Don't get me wrong. That did scare me a little. I trust you though if you say I can't hurt it," Jess says with a smile.

She hesitates for a moment before continuing. "I can't though Cailin. As much as I want this, I gave ma and mom my word. If ma has taught me anything, you stand by your word. I've always respected their authority and I, I just can't. They're my parents Cailin."

Cailin nods as she wipes a tear from her eye. "OK Jess. You're right."

"Hey, don't cry," Jess says as she puts her arm around Cailin and pulls her to her. "I know you've had a long day. I can hold you. There's no rules against that. Do you want me to hold you?"

Cailin nods as her tears turn to sobs. Jess lays down behind her in the bed and pulls her into her. "It's OK Cailin. I'm right here. I'm not going anywhere. I've got you."

For the next half hour the two said no words. Cailin just wanted to enjoy being in the safety of Jess's arms. Soon, they both fell asleep, Jess holding onto Cailin tightly.
