"How much do you know about Nick?"Caleb asked glaring at the dream hunter before him. He didn't trust Madoc one bit… especially after what Grim and the other traitors tried to do and how Madoc was in the middle of it all.
Madoc sighed, "I know pretty much everything. I've always known about Nick, though I only met him in person a few years back."
"So you know…"
"That Nick is my younger brother yes," Madoc said.
"How!"
It was weird for Caleb to be standing face to face with someone who looked exactly like his old master. Weirder still was instead of a face full of hate and anger, it was a face of sadness and mystery. Madoc also looked extremely tired, which while not uncommon for a dream hunter but it was the way he acted. He reminded Caleb of well… Caleb. Someone tried to break him and he barely made it with his life even though he may have lost most of his soul in the process.
"When Nick would have nightmares, I would be the dream hunter who helped him," Madoc replied, "I've seen a lot of his dreams and his fears. As a child, it was nightmares about what our father would do to him and his mother… now it's the fear of destroying the world and everything else he loves."
"But Nick isn't…"
"We know Caleb, but he doesn't," Aeron said, "but if we fuck anything up, he might end up being the one who ends it all."
"Especially if the lord of darkness gets his hands on him," Madoc said, shuddering as a horrible memory washed over him, "he got his hands on us, I and the other dream hunters still haven't fully recovered from that."
That was news to Caleb. When and how did the dream hunters end up under Noir's "tender and loving" care?
"Not to mention there's now a traitor among us, so we aren't able to help much," Madoc said, "I can't help Nick as much as I have in the past since they can use me to get to him."
"Do the other dream hunter's know that you know a lot more than you let on," Caleb narrowed his eyes at Nick's older brother.
Madoc nodded, "the first one to realize that was Jared because he could sense my kinship to Nick. I found out that these two," Madoc gestured to Dagon and Aeron, "knew about me because of things Nick said before drinking from the Lethe. And before you ask, Aeron told me what Nick did."
"You think it's stupid don't you?"
Madoc shook his head, "it was a pretty good idea but the number of people he pissed of and continues to piss off, they can use his lack of memories to their advantage. Make him lose control. The only things that pulled him back these past couples of years where the dark hunters, then Jared came along, and now Haylee. While they can't completely anchor him they are helping him control his anger."
"And the one who can anchor him now hasn't been born yet," Caleb muttered, "So what should we do?"
"Besides give him back his memories? We don't know," Dagon said, "We don't know how he'll react that his precious aunt Minne basically set his mother up to die. If he lets his anger and hatred take control…"
Dagon didn't need to say it. Caleb already knew. The world would end, and it would be by Nick's hand.
…
Eden fidgeted in her seat as Nick started her. Eden thought she had everything mapped out in her head, tried to tell herself that it was just like meeting a family member… then she realized that he actually was family.
It was strange to think about it. Especially when she remembers the last conversation she had with her mother.
It's weird to know that my- is it one or two?- great nephew was older than me, Eden thought, Thank's mom for telling me that.
Eden didn't know where to start.
With her mother? And how she was told about Nick a few months before she was born. How Nick was one of the few beings in this universe that could protect her?
At least that's what her father said when he gave those instructions to Eden's mom.
"So…" Nick looked at her with blue eyes filled with mistrust. Not that Eden could blame him for that, she wouldn't trust a stranger who knew about her either.
"Yes! Um… where to start?" Eden muttered to herself, "Crap I haven't thought this through. Frankly, I never thought I would make it this far."
Nick smirked as she gave out a nervous laugh. This strange girl seemed to know who- and possibly what- he was and she wasn't scared of him.
"How about...how you know who I am," Nick suggested.
"Well I don't know everything," Eden said, "My mom kind to mentioned you. She said-"
"Oh my gods she's your kid isn't she!" Dev interrupted.
"No!" Eden shouted, and before she could stop herself she added, "Nick is my nephew!"
Both looked shocked at those words.
"How?" Nick asked.
"Um… well… Shit!" Eden stumbled over her words as she tried to think of what to explain that, "me and my big mouth. I wasn't supposed to say that."
Eden was never good around people, and she wanted nothing more than to go back home to her mom, manga, and video games.
But right now she couldn't.
"But you're not, so how are you related to me?" Nick asked.
Honestly, she didn't know all the details, so she didn't know which side she was on when it came to Nick's family tree.
Eden sighed, "Look I don't understand everything but… my dad told my mom about you, said if anything happens to send me to you."
"Whose you father?"
"I think I can answer that," a voice said causing everyone to turn their heads as a red-haired man walked up to them. Eden found the man a little unnerving and yet something about his aura felt familiar. Like with Nick she could sense a kinship with this man.
"She's Jaden's daughter," the man said, before turning to her, "however… that shouldn't be possible right now. So how did he manage to father another child."
