Episode 3 – Part 2

Within two days, news had spread amongst the founders of Ivano and Kalina, delighting and amusing them in equal measure. If anything it certainly made the bonds between the group that much stronger. Although at the present more, there was more tension than relief for one of the families. Arica sighed as she made the final preparations she needed into getting ready.

"You're sure about this now?" Niko asked his wife worriedly.

She nodded. "Yes Niko, we need to restock the bullets and there are still a few supplies to be picked up...but after that, with everything we've worked out, we will be able to be self-sufficient. This may be the last, proper, supply run we do."

It was true, they were pretty much self-sufficient now, growing their own food, finding ways to craft their own medical supplies, maintaining defences and weapons well enough. The main reason for getting the bullets restocked was they were still perfecting making them themselves, they were close, but not quite there yet. Arica knew of a location that would have all they needed and that was why she had volunteered for the supply run. But of course, it wasn't just Niko's concerns she had to deal with.

"Mommy, don't go." Jonas cried as he ran up, hugging her legs.

Arica softened, gently smoothing back his hair. "It's okay, sweetie. I know what I'm doing, I'll be alright."

Jonas sniffled but let her go, being hugged by his big sister now.

Looking from her brother to her mother, Lydia seemed unsure. "Do you really have to go, mom?"

"I appreciate the concern Lydia, but yes. I know where this place is and I can get there quietly, without being heard. It'll take a few days, to get there and back."

"Luckily there's no herd…we've only had stragglers, so we're looking at a good chance right now." Niko admitted.

Arica agreed and, so, despite concerns all around, it was agreed for her to go on the supply run and she departed; now they could only wait for her return.

So it was that the atmosphere in Pogoren was now expectant and tense as they waited for Arica to make her eventual return. Even as he sat outside, pondering something deeply, Misha noticed Pavle and Britta walking together, talking anxiously.

"I'm still not sure about Arica going out like that." Pavle was saying. "I mean, she knows where this place is, surely she could've told us…"

Britta nodded. "I know, you and I could've gone, she may be quiet at moving, but we're the fastest. Besides, she has her family to think about, especially Jonas."

By that point they'd walked past and were heading out of earshot. Misha shook his head, they were right. He knew Jonas was having a hard time of it, he had done his best to help Lydia soothe the poor boy. But that wasn't the only thing on his mind.

"What's got you all worked up, Misha?" Ivano asked as he approached.

Misha sighed. "It seems kinda silly, what with everyone worried about Arica but. I just want mom and Roman to at least be talking again."

"Ah, I know what you mean. But...just talking, didn't we say it looked like they were-?" Ivano replied.

"Yeah, I know. I think they really do like each other. But, they need to be talking first." Misha remarked.

Ivano nodded. "So, what are we gonna do?"

Misha thought for a moment, trying to figure out a plan.

Mara quirked an eyebrow as she stood, hands on her hips, observing her boys as they sat on the sofa, looking back at her innocently, having made, what was to her, a strange suggestion.

"Boys, really, you really think we should have Roman around for dinner, after-"

Misha spoke up quickly. "I know you're still upset with him, mom, but please."

"It's…we don't like that you're upset." Ivano added. "We just want you two to have a chance to at least mend things. To make things better."

Mara sighed and turned away, thinking. She couldn't deny, the boys were right. It wasn't good for their group that she and Roman were still at odds. She also admitted, on a personal level that she was feeling regret at losing her temper the way she did. Although her reasons for being angry at Roman were still strong.

'But the boys are right. We have to at least try and make amends.' She noted. 'It's also not really fair, I didn't give Roman a chance to explain himself, I should hear him out at least.'

Finally, she turned back to her boys and managed a smile.

"Okay then boys, Roman can come around for dinner tonight."

End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
