Chapter 10: Cavalry Battle!
"Time's up! All 42 finisher's are here in time for the next competition!" Midnight said "The next competition, the Cavalry battle, will soon begin. The rules for it are simple, teams can be made up of up to four people, with one person being the rider that stays on top of the rest, and cannot touch the ground. You will have 15 minutes to form teams and the same amount of time to fight. Each person has a headband that's points value increases in 5 point increments from the last person, starting from 5 points, but there's a catch- the first person has one worth 10 million points! I trust that you all understand?". Seeing the children nod, she continued "Good~~. Now, let's begin!".
Shirou was sweating nervously, following Midnight's declaration of the challenge.
Will I be disqualified if someone doesn't team up with me…? He wondered. It would be a shame if I were to lose my spot in the Hero course because of something like that…
As he meandered around, three people approached him, but he didn't know most of their names.
"Hi! I was wondering if we could team up?" they each asked, individually. Their names of the speakers were Mezo Shoji, a member of his class with the quirk Dupli-Arms who, as the quirk's name suggested, had more than one set of arms, Manga Fukidashi, a member of class 1-B with a personality that seemed like Shirou's own, and a quirk called Comic, which allowed him to bring onomatopoeia to life, and, finally, Hitoshi Shinso, a member of the General Education department, who, according to himself, had a villainous quirk.
But what about a quirk is Villainous? Shirou thought in his head, before agreeing.
YoU KnOw THaT, ShIrOU
Hitoshi had refused to divulge or to use his quirk, so there were effectively only three of them.
"How much weight can you lift comfortably? Could you maybe carry us?" Hitsoshi asked Mezo.
"Well, alot… I haven't found something I could try lifting that I haven't been able to do so yet… I could duplicate my back a couple of times, and place you guys on it?"
"That'll work"
They came to a decision quickly, and just in time too! Nary a minute later, Midnight was clearing her throat, trying to gain attention. "Ahem! The cavalry battle starts now! Go forth and steal your competitors points!"
All eyes were on them. Possessing the 10 million point headband would guarantee victory. So, they created a smoke screen with Manga's help
"The colorful smoke bombs go boom as they explode harmlessly!" Manga shouted, creating colorful explosions on their own, that together, if painted, would form the color of word vomit, out of his quirk. They accomplished their jobs, nonetheless, as they formed a smokescreen in order to prevent the others from seeing everything.
Manga's actions would not be the only one's taken within the time frame. Realizing what had happened, Shoto Todoroki had spread ice throughout the ground, but with a lack of knowledge on the exact positions of where to place it, he didn't succeed in trapping all of the students. Due to the instinctual reaction of the ice as well, it was brittle enough to break out of, yet this ice was still extremely slippery, causing some of the less nimble students to fall down.
"Hey listeners, can any of you see anything down there? The chaos of the Cavalry battle has just begun and dust has already been kicked up! No, not dust, smoke bombs from class 1-B's Manga Fukidashi, quirk Comic." Present Mic exclaimed.
As the smoke cleared, Shirou figured there was only one way to remain safe: to trace many blades and hope no-one would run into them.
"Trace on" he murmured.
"What are you saying, Shirou?" Hitoshi asked.
Fumbling to make up an excuse, the target of that particular inquiry responded with the first thing to cross his mind: "I thought it sounded cool when I was younger, and now it's almost second nature for me…".
"So cool!" Manga responded.
But all of them, except Shirou, were shocked at what they saw when the dust cleared.
"Radiating outwards from team Emiya is a bunch of shields! And there's swords as well, forming a pattern! Is that even allowed?!"
To this question, Midnight responded "Well, we haven't had this situation before, but it should be… as long as they don't directly target the riders, it's fine with me~~!
The projections held the students at bay for a little while, but they soon ran off, having other things to do.
"... So that's your quirk, Shirou," Mezo said.
Shirou simply nodded. It's not really a quirk but
They would remain in the same position until the end of the competition, as no-one wanted to run into a field of blades.
This event would only cast doubt on their abilities to be a hero. Is this really all their conviction is worth? They are afraid of their own deaths…
So that's the cheater; the man only known as Shigaraki to class 1-A thought. He's more bloodthirsty than I thought…
As the Cavalry battle drew to a close, Midnight once more took the stage, declaring "Only the top four teams have passed this test. They will be announced now!
In first place are Shirou Emiya, Manga Fukidashi, Mezo Shoji, and Hitoshi Shinso!
In second place are Shoto Todoroki, Tenya Ilda, Momo Yaoyorozu, and Denki Kaminari
In third place are Katsuki Bakugo, Eijiro Kirishima, Mina Ashido, and Hanta Sero.
Finally, in third place are Izuku Midoriya, Ochaco Uraraka, Fumikage Tokoyami, and Mei Hatsume!"
"You heard it here, folks! Only the 16 people just mentioned by Midnight will be going to the next stage of the Sports festival!"
Present Mic's fellow correspondent, looking and sounding like he didn't want to be there and would rather be asleep, replied "Yes, we know, that's what she literally just said".
