Hello Okaa-san, a lot has happened since the last letters, too much to really describe properly in a single letter to be fair so I'll try to catch you up to date.
For starters, we did it! We managed to get past Urokodaki's training and became Demon Slayers! We've helped so many people already and fought so many strong opponents, one in particular has given me a terrible month of my life, although I managed to get a few positives out of it.
Nezuko and I managed to make some good friends on the way. There's Zenitsu who to be honest likes flirting with Nezuko a little too much, I had to keep him at bay a few times or I figured he'd start clinging. There's also Inosuke, he's usually loud and competitive but I can tell he's got a good heart, despite our rough start we managed to become pretty close!
I also managed to regain my voice, I'm so glad I can just talk again instead of having to use grunts or sign language to communicate. I think I know why it happened but it's not something I like to talk about so I hope you can forgive me for not giving you any special details.
-Sincerely, Tanjiro.
"HUUUUUUH!?" Zenitsu yelled out loud with no regards of the distance between him or his travel companions after Nezuko made it clear they hadn't left the Estate because of an order, "What do you mean, no orders!? Then we should've just stayed at Shinobu's house!" he continued harshly while a bit too close for comfort to the girl, soon quickly getting shoved away by the girl's brother.
"Well, our treatment is finished so I figured that instead of staying in one place-" Nezuko began as to explain her logic but alas Zenitsu didn't want to hear it, he quickly took another breath of air and blurted out his next words right through the girl's words, "But we could've avoided that sad goodbye!"
"Would you rather have that sad goodbye after we get orders and have that slow us down!?" Tanjiro chimed in, tired of the blondie's sputtering whilst Inosuke just glared at them from behind his boar mask, remaining silent for the time being.
So the aimless journey mostly remained like that, Zenitsu sad and angry that he didn't get to remain at the Estate for longer while the Kamados didn't want to bother the staff with extra work after Nezuko had recovered, Inosuke didn't mind.
Once the path they had followed led them into a forest, Zenitsu decided that no, he wasn't going to keep silent just because someone was shushing him, "Where are we even heading!?" He blurted out in half-rage to no one in particular.
Everyone effectively stopped dead in their tracks and stared at Zenitsu, Nezuko just shrugged to answer the boy's question which only frustrated the blondie more, "We're just following the path until it leads us to a town or we get orders." she said bluntly.
"We have been walking for several hours, pretty sure." Tanjiro said suddenly, his head peered to the sky watching the night dance past, "I wouldn't mind taking a break." he said after with a bright smile.
"H-Huh!? A break? Right here!?" Zenitsu responded with a yell, after all who in their right mind would take a break in the middle of a forest anyways, in the middle of night, you'd be insane! "We're in the middle of a forest! It's not safe here!"
"Bah! Stop shouting already, what's with you?" Inosuke yelled out while pointing at Zenitsu, "You're always on about not wanting to die, if you don't want to die don't be so weak then!"
"Who are you to talk!? You're constantly trying to fight everyone, don't think I didn't notice what that Demon on the mountain did to you!" Zenitsu shot at Inosuke whilst pointing back.
The two kept shouting at each other while the Kamados stood there silently, staring in disbelief at the antics of their group of friends before Nezuko decided to intervene by stepping in between the two yelling boys, "Calm down you two, we can just take turns keeping watch." she said with a smile, Nezuko knew Zenitsu would rather not argue with her and was by now willing to use this to her advantage to get the boy on her side, "Onii-chan, can you take the first watch?" Nezuko asked as she turned her head to the brother in question, Tanjiro looked at the sky again, seeing that the treetops neatly secured the area they were in in shadow, he nodded.
"That settles it, we're resting up here for a bit before continuing." Nezuko exclaimed excitedly and immediately dropped herself down onto the floor to take a resting position causing Tanjiro to let out a laugh.
Now it had been an hour in, while Nezuko, Zenitsu, and Inosuke were fast asleep, Tanjiro sat on a nearby rock and held watch to make sure no Demons would ambush them, to pass the time he had untied his bun and was twirling a finger through his long white hair, Tanjiro sighed as he remembered the way Rui's body forced itself to approach their sibling hug that day and the immense emotions it gave off.
Tanjiro stretched his arms out infront of himself before weaving some threads in between his fingers and began staring at them with caring yet sad eyes, he knew that in the end Rui just wanted to have a family again yet due to his tainted body and mind he was unable to properly pursue that goal, instead forcing people to become part of his twisted and0 damaged idea of a family and punishing them for the smallest offense.
Tanjiro smiled faintly when he envisioned the threads as Rui himself, or atleast a remnant of the Spider Boy, "Atleast you can rest easy knowing that there's still a part of you out there, and that it's going to help save a lot of people." the boy thought passionately as he considered the ways he could use his threads to make future battles easier.
"I guess I can be grateful that you've given me something, atleast. You weren't really the best 'younger brother' I could wish for but you weren't exactly evil either, I can tell that much."
For the duration of his shift, Tanjiro remained sitting and was weaving patterns with his threads, even mimicking the linework of his Hanafuda Earrings at one point to which Tanjiro smiled brightly, it made him think back to that moment when a few of his presumed lost memories clicked back into place.
"Just maybe… If we keep going like this I'll start to remember everything. I just hope Tamayo is able to truly make that cure…"
Tanjiro let out a soft chuckle as he looked at his sleeping sister who would be the next one to hold guard, he admired her peaceful resting position before undoing his threads and getting off the rock to wake her up.
A few light pushes to her side and Nezuko began to murmur, waking up not soon after and yawning after the hour of sleep, "Is it my turn already, Onii-chan?" she asked with a smile, she knew the answer of course and had gotten up while asking the question, "Did anything note-worthy happen in the meantime?"
Tanjiro shook his head as he lowered himself to the ground, "Nothing to note just yet." he said, "But let's not keep our guard down."
"Hm! Will do." Nezuko said as she started her turn to hold watch, while watching her brother getting into a cozier position her smile widened as she herself remembered their hardships, and yet he's able to live through it so carefree.
It's obvious Tanjiro can sometimes be a workaholic and that he's got a heart of pure gold, that part of him was their home village's pride afterall.
It was a shame that their simple life had been robbed from them just like that, whenever Nezuko thinks back to that night she is immediately filled with rage and hate, all aimed towards that monster Kibutsuji Muzan.
"I wonder if we'll be able to beat him… End his reign and avenge the lives he's ruined. I really hope so, but… When we encountered him in Asakusa, he had such a hostile presence, I think if I didn't drag Onii-chan out of there things might've gotten worse."
Nezuko's smiling face immediately turned angry as she considered the possible outcomes if Muzan ever got his hands on her dear older brother…
It was likely afterall, Muzan was strong, he was the progenitor of Demonkind and by far the strongest, they had trouble beating Rui and he was just a Lower Moon.
Nezuko sighed, yeah, things were only going to get harder from here on out.
Sorry, another short one, but it's the start of the first unique Lower-Moon based arcs.
I noticed that these calmer scenarios are usually on the shorter side from me when I have to write them from scratch.
