Mandy and John had been married for three months. After giving it some serious thought, Mandy decided to get the cochlear implant. The operation was the day after tomorrow. Tomorrow Mandy was going down to the doctor's office for the operation prep. She was going to be told what to expect after the operation. She was making dinner and waiting for John to get home. She knew he should be home anytime. She was setting the table and saw John wave his hand to get her attention. She smiled when she saw him.

Hi baby. He signed.

Hi. She signed. They kissed.

It smells good in here.

We're having lasagna.

How was your flight?

Good. How was your day?Good. I was thinking about you all day.

Did you miss me?

Yeah.

I missed you to. Do I have time to go change?

Yeah.

After dinner they were laying on the couch.

Are you nervous about the operation? John signed.

Yeah but I'm excited. She signed.

I know it will take some getting used to. I've always wondered what cartoon characters sound like. Reading their voices on closed captioning isn't the same.

I know.

What I'm looking forward to the most, is hearing your voice for the first time. I've always wondered what your voice sounds like.

I just can't wait for you to hear any sounds at all. They kissed.

Wanna go upstairs?

She signed smiling

.Absolutely.

They went upstairs to the bedroom. She got on the bed first. He slowly climbed on top of her. They kissed.

I love you so much. He signed.

I love you too. They kissed.

The next day Mandy and John were at the doctor.

I need to ask you a few procedural questions. The nurse signed ready with a clipboard.

Do you smoke?

No. Mandy signed.

Do you drink?

Only occasionally.

How often would you say?

Maybe once or twice a week.

Are you currently pregnant?

No.

Have you ever been pregnant?

Mandy didn't want to answer the question but she knew she had to. Yes.

John got a surprised look on his face.
