-Chapter 12-

"That feeling when you're so cold you'd give anything to be warm - I've had it before, literally huddled around a candle flame on an ice sheet." - Bear Grylls

I sat in the seiza position as Kyoya's…my parents sat across from me. My mother is beautiful with her long flowing raven locks set in loose waves and piercing charcoal gray orbs that seemed to turn gunmetal in the light. My father…I could already tell that I would turn out to be a carbon copy of him the older I get. It was as though I were looking at my TYL form. The only obvious difference was that I inherited my steel gray orbs from my mother, as father's eyes were dark obsidian. Their names are Hibari Akira and Hibari Kaoru.

"Hahaue," I greeted the woman as warmly as a Hibari is known for before glancing at my father. "Omnivore."

I watched blankly as father's eye twitched, the action causing the corner of my mouth to dip up into a slight smirk.

"Oh, ho, ho, my son obviously still loves me more than you, Anata," Akira voiced amusedly, her hand cupping her chin as she aimed a splitting smirk at her husband.

"Che," Kaoru bit off, tilting his head to the side while still glaring down at me. "I do not approve."

Silence filtered throughout the room as I met my father's glare with my own. Any humor once showing in my eyes vanished at his words. Mother remained watching us glaring at one another, not making a move to say or do anything other than observe us.

'Approve? What does he not approve of? Tsunayoshi?' I wondered, feeling something deep within my chest build pressure.

"That is your decision," I finally stated, standing my ground on the matter.

Kaoru's brow rose as an oppressive aura seeped from him to fill every crevice inside the room. The house seemed to creek.

"You would defy me?" Kaoru demanded, his tone low and carrying a pressure much like his heavy aura.

I bared my teeth, my fingers flexing for my tonfas I knew were not on me. I had left them in my room, having been working on upgrading them. Regardless, I would not need them in my attack.

"Sawada Tsunayoshi is mine," I bit out, daring him to say anything else on the matter.

"Such a weakling is not fit for the Hibari name," Kaoru practically sneered, glaring down his nose at me.

The pressure within the room kept building, my own aura meeting his head on. Mother continued to watch and it was only by chance of recalling the woman's own fierce abilities that I fought to calm down. It would do no good to damage the house. She would kill both husband and son without hesitation.

"Hn, something that is mine is never weak," I stated, brushing off my father's intense gaze to focus on my mother's.

Her face was blank and her eyes gunmetal. I inwardly blanched.

"Kyoya," She began, finally speaking and was it possible for someone to feel their soul leave their body?

Father chuckled and all at once arms were wrapped around me and I was pulled into a tight embrace initiated by the man. Large hands seemed to cradle me as mother's giggles soon joined in and her slim arms went around us both.

"We're so proud of you," They said at the same time.

Tensed, I waited for the other shoe to drop. Everything changed so quickly, I had a hard time keeping up.

'Testing…they were testing me,' I thought, remaining tense in their arms.

I hate crowding. It seemed that it did not matter who was doing the crowding with the exception of Tsuna.

"I'll bite you to death," I grunted, but remained in their embrace.

Tsuna fidgeted with the helm of his beige knit cardigan, nerves doing battle in his stomach. His white button up dress shirt was tucked into navy slacks and he had even cleaned up his only pair of dress shoes which he had worn once during his entrance ceremony. A hand grabbed one of his and Tsuna looked up at Kyoya, the skylark's steady gaze locked onto Tsuna's wavering amber orbs.

"Don't be nervous," Kyoya whispered, going to open the front door to his home.

Tsuna grabbed hold of the front of Kyoya's dark green long sleeve shirt, pressing his forehead against the raven's shoulder and practically squeezing the life from Kyoya's hand.

"I don't want to embarrass you," Tsuna murmured, his tone shaky with nerves.

Kyoya moved his free hand to run gently through mousy brunette locks while leaning down enough to nuzzle Tsuna's face.

"You don't have to meet my parents if you're not ready, Tsunayoshi. We can leave early for the onsen if you want," Kyoya spoke softly, his warm breath fluttering over Tsuna's ear.

"Mm, no," Tsuna said, letting out a heavy sigh before straightening up with a smile. "I want to meet your parents, Kyo-kun."

"And we would like to meet you as well, Sawada-kun."

At the new voice, Tsuna's head whipped around to catch sight of both Hibari Akira and Hibari Kaoru standing at the now opened door. Tsuna immediately bowed at an impressive ninety degree angle, an apology at his lips until a giggle caught his ear. He quickly straightened up with a flush and met the gentle expression on Kyoya's mother's face and the smug look on Kyoya's father's.

"It's nice to meet you. I am Sawada Tsunayoshi. Please take care of me," Tsuna managed to speak clearly without a single stutter.

Kyoya smirked at his parents, his thumb running soothing circles over Tsuna's knuckles despite having lost the feeling in his hand minutes ago.

-KHR-

"So how did the two of you meet?" Akira asked as she finished setting out cups of warm tea for the four of them.

Tsuna gave quiet thanks as his cheeks began to bloom a pink hue. I blinked as well at mother's question, recalling the time when I first officially met the brunette.

"Kyo-kun saved me," Tsuna answered softly, his whiskey orbs meeting Akira's for a moment before he took a calming drink of his tea.

"Oho?" Kaoru sounded curiously, a pitch brow lifting.

My teeth clenched at the thought of those herbivores that had mistreated Tsuna.

"And how did my son save you, Sawada-kun?" Akira pressed on, her charcoal orbs locked onto the brunette with such focus that almost caused Tsuna to fidget where he sat.

"Ano…Kyo-kun bit them to death," Tsuna answered honestly and my lips twitched in a smirk.

'It's about time for their reminder too,' I thought, my amused smirk unconsciously turning sharp.

A gentle tug on my sleeve had me glance down and my steel orbs locked onto bright amber.

"Not worth it," Tsuna murmured, knowing exactly where my thoughts had turned to.

"Of course you are," I stated without hesitation and of much thought to what I was saying and who I was saying it in front of.

A brilliant flush dusted Tsuna's cheeks at my words and a breathy sign sounded from across from us. Tsuna and I looked over, suddenly remembering that we were definitely not alone in the room and saw the look of fondness and pride emitting from my parents.

"So," Akira voiced with a loving smile. "When's the wedding?"

"Hahaue!"

"An-Anata?!"

"Hiiiieeee!"

Well there is a familiar sound I have not heard in a long time.

The wind whipped around them as Kyoya sped up his matte black Suzuki Katana motorcycle, the action causing Tsuna's arms to tighten around his skylark's waist. Amber orbs watched through a tinted visor as the scenery flew by; the journey to the group's chosen onsen a relatively relaxing one. Behind them was Bianchi driving a rental van containing the rest of the group; Takashi, Hayato, Ryohei, Reborn, and for some reason Nana, Lambo, I-Pin, Fuuta, Haru and Kyoko too. Thinking about all of them packed inside the small rental van had Tsuna feeling extremely grateful that Kyoya had his own way of going.

The feel of Kyoya slowing down had Tsuna look up from where he was resting his head against the skylark's shoulder and spotted a cobbled path coming up on the left. Taking the turn, Kyoya sped back up. Moments later the onsen came into view and Tsuna felt his excitement well. He had never been to an onsen before and he was looking forward to sharing his experience with the ones closet to him. Slowing to a stop in a spot designated for guest, Tsuna carefully hopped off as Kyoya put down the kickstand.

"Juudaime, are you okay?"

Tsuna felt a sweat-drop trail down his face at Gokudera's shouted question. Yamamoto's laughter soon followed and Gokudera became distracted from his concern and was currently shouting at the baseball lover. The sweat-drop grew once everyone exited the bus and the younger children's excitement was clearly heard…most likely by everyone occupying the onsen.

"Shh, everyone, this is supposed to be a relaxing place. You have to keep your voices down," Tsuna immediately moved towards the rowdy children and his three loudest guardians while holding up his hands. "You don't want us to be kicked out right?"

Lambo, I-Pin and Fuuta shook their heads 'no', a look of being chastised on their faces. Gokudera looked as if Tsuna had told the silver haired bomber that he was disappointed in him, the teen suddenly had a dark thundercloud over his head. Yamamoto and Ryohei chuckled, the baseball lover rubbing the back of his neck in slight embarrassment.

"Kyo-nii," Fuuta addressed me as the group split up, having followed close behind me.

Some went to their designated rooms to settle down, others went to look around, while the more impatient of them (Ryohei and Haru) ventured straight to the bathhouse to shower off before entering the steaming waters.

"Hm?" I sounded questioningly as I removed my black leather jacket and hung it on the coat stand inside the private room I would be spending the night in.

Glancing down at the child, my steel gaze met large doe-like dark brown orbs before Fuuta quickly looked down at his feet. I noted the tight grip his fingers had on the front of his thin green sweater and knelt down to be closer to his level.

"What is it, small animal?" I asked softly, gently easing the boy's white-knuckled grip with one of my hands.

'What could be bothering him?' I wondered, unconsciously sending out cloud flames to shield the room from unwanted intruders.

"Ca-can I stay with you and Tsuna-nii tonight?" Fuuta asked quietly, his voice almost a whisper.

My brows rose at the small child's hesitant question and the nine years old's grip was suddenly on the front of my long sleeve slate gray henley top.

"Nana-san and Bianchi-san are sharing a room with Lambo-kun, I-Pin-chan, Kyoko-san and Haru-san. Everyone else is sharing a room together aside from you and Tsuna-nii. I know I should stay with Lambo-kun and I-Pin-chan like I do at Tsuna-nii's, but I feel safer around you and Tsuna-nii. I don't want to—,"

Fuuta's slowly raising voice was suddenly cut off as I scooped the small child up, one of my hands gently carding through light brunette locks. Fuuta buried his damp face against the curve of my shoulder as his small body racked with sobs. Unsure of what to do, I moved to the shoji doors and slid them open. Taking a seat on the private patio, I leaned against one of the wooden pillars and just held the crying child while glancing out at the flowering scenery. Behind me, the room door opened and shut almost silently. Knowing who it was without turning around, I waited for Tsuna to sit down.

"What's wrong?" Tsuna questioned the now softly crying child, his arm going around Fuuta without hesitation while glowing amber met piercing steel.

"He feels safer with us," I answered in a murmur, knowing Tsuna could hear me with how close he is.

Tsuna's hand joined mine in running through Fuuta's silky light brunette locks.

"It's alright, Fuuta-kun, you're safe with us," Tsuna whispered in the boy's ear, his words seemingly calming the child down further. "You can stay with us tonight if you want."

Fuuta nodded in agreement without removing his tear-stained face from my shoulder, his small form slowly becoming heavy with sleep. Tsuna and I spent the next thirty or so odd minutes talking softly while sitting on the patio with a dozing Fuuta on my lap.

Once Fuuta woke up, the child's cheeks flushing with embarrassment that was quickly soothed by Tsuna, the three moved to the bathhouse to shower off before joining the others in the open aired onsen. Leaving everyone to their chatting group, I moved towards the far end near some heated rocks mostly cloaked in steam clouds. A sign escaped my slightly parted lips as the hot water surrounded me up to my shoulders and I leaned back against the warm rocks and closed my eyes.

It was not long before the water around me shifted as the approaching presence disturbed the still liquid. A splash of water sounded almost far away and the steam around the area seemed to thicken. Laughter rang out, but it was otherwise peaceful. My steel orbs slit open as a pair of knees bumped mine and I stared into darkened amber. It was fascinating to watch the pink hue of Tsuna's cheeks grow, the action caused most likely by both the warmth of the water and our close proximity.

"Tsunayoshi," I breathed, somewhat confused as my brunette remained motionless.

He then moved and my steel orbs slowly grew wide. The water made our skin slick and my hands immediately went to Tsuna's hips as he straddled my lap. Wrapping his arms around my neck, his mouth covered mine.

-KHR-

"Oi, where did Juudaime go?" Gokudera voiced aloud, squinting his eyes in an effort to see through the thick steam. "Did he leave already?"

Yamamoto tilted his head, also glancing around for the brunette that has become a good friend of his.

"EXTREME!" Ryohei shouted right before he canon-balled into the warm waters, causing a mini tidal wave.

His action effectively distracted the raven baseball lover and the silver haired bomber. Off to the side, Reborn shot a glance towards the far end of the onsen where a muffled sigh sounded. The sound was too low for anyone not specifically listening for anything and completely drowned out by three of Tsuna's guardians. Leaving the steam covered area, Reborn got dressed in the standard yukata supplied by the onsen and went to his room to rest…his knowing smirk going unnoticed.
