Disclaimer: I don't own Harry Potter; I am merely writing these stories for fun.
Christmas was fast approaching and inside the Rook, the Lovegoods had really gotten into the holiday spirit. On this particular day, Pandora and Xenophilius were busily decorating their tree. The ornaments they used were ones they'd made themselves; many of them were shaped like Crumple-Horned Snorkacks, Blibbering Humdingers, Moon Frogs, and other miscellaneous creatures.
"I help too?" Luna asked eagerly
"Of course," Pandora said, handing the little girl a few decorations which she placed on the lowest branches of the tree. Within minutes they had almost finished and there was only one thing left to do: figure out what to put on top of it.
"What about this?" asked Pandora, holding up a miniature model of Father Christmas. "It'll look great on top of the tree."
Xeno shook his head. "This tree needs something that will bring us good luck for the next year. Something like this." He held up a model of what looked like a silver-and-cyan fairy - a Cloud Fairy, he called it.
Pandora rolled her eyes. "Really, Xeno? Do you honestly think a hideous thing like that could bring us good luck?"
"It is not hideous, Pandora. It is a highly magical creature that - "
" - could ruin this tree's looks if you ask me," Pandora interrupted.
Luna, sensing an argument brewing between her parents, rushed up to her room and came back down seconds later with the stuffed eagle she had gotten from Cedric for her birthday. "You want to put this on top of the tree, Luna?" her mother asked. The toddler nodded; Pandora carefully placed the eagle there, using a Temporary Sticking Charm to hold it in place.
"Pretty!" Luna said happily as the family took a moment to admire their tree.
Much like Muggle families, wizarding families often had unique Christmas traditions. For instance, it was tradition for the Lovegoods to bake Gingerbread Snorkacks every year on Christmas Eve. After Pandora had made the dough, she had Luna shape it into Crumple-Horned Snorkack heads. Once the biscuits were done, Pandora and Luna decorated them with frosting and used gumdrops for the eyes. Afterward, Luna grabbed several biscuits and was about to walk off with them when her mother stopped her. "Luna, what are you doing? You'll get a tummy-ache if you eat all those at once."
"Not for me, Mummy! For Father Christmas."
"Oh, well, that's all right then," Pandora replied as her daughter went to put the biscuits near the fireplace.
Xeno walked in, picking up a Gingerbread Snorkack and biting into it. "These are delicious, Dora," he told her with a smile.
"Well, you know, I always try and make sure each batch is better than the last," replied Pandora. Just then Luna toddled back into the kitchen yawning. "Looks like someone's ready for bed," her mother said, picking her up and carrying her upstairs, Xeno following close behind. By the time Pandora tucked the little girl in, Luna had fallen asleep.
Pandora awoke the next morning to loud shrieks coming from Luna's bedroom. When she came in, she found her daughter jumping up and down on her bed, flapping her arms excitedly and screeching at the top of her voice. "Excited, are you?" she said with a chuckle.
Luna stopped her screeching long enough to say, "It's Christmas, Mummy!"
"Well, if you settle down now we'll get some breakfast and then open our gifts," Pandora told her. The little girl stopped jumping and allowed her mother to take her down to the kitchen for breakfast.
"Oooh!" Luna squealed when she spotted the gifts under the tree, and everyone got to unwrapping their gifts; Xeno had received a set of bright yellow robes and Pandora had gotten an advanced potion-making kit. Luna, meanwhile, was unwrapping a new set of crayons, each of which could draw in two colors simultaneously, and a stuffed unicorn.
"This is the bestest Christmas ever!" the little girl said happily; she was about to run upstairs to try out her new crayons when Pandora stopped her. "Wait a second, sweetie, there's one more present. This one's from Mummy." Luna unwrapped the box and found a set of bright purple footie pajamas decorated with Moon Frogs.
"Pretty!" she exclaimed, holding them up.
"Would you like to try them on now?" Pandora asked her. Luna nodded. Once her mother had helped her into the pajamas and fastened them, something amazing happened - the Moon Frogs started flashing different colors!
At once, Luna started shrieking and jumping up and down while flapping her arms just as she had that morning. Wow, Pandora thought to herself. I knew she'd like it but I didn't think she'd be this excited. Pandora had knitted the pajamas herself and enchanted the Moon Frogs so that they'd turn different colors as long as Luna was wearing them.
All Pandora and Xeno could do now was wait for the toddler to settle down before taking her to her room for her nap.
That evening, the family sat down to a hearty Freshwater Plimpy stew, Luna feeding some of it to her new stuffed unicorn. Afterward they ate some Gingerbread Snorkacks left over from the previous night.
Later as Pandora was tucking Luna into bed, the little girl said, "Mummy?"
"What is it, Lu-Lu?"
"Next Christmas I want a Crumple-Horned Snorkack. A real one, not the stuffed one you got me when I was a baby."
"Are you sure, sweetie?"
"Yes!" Luna said enthusiastically. "I'll feed him and wash him and play with him!"
Pandora put a gentle hand on Luna's shoulder. "Sweetheart, Snorkacks don't really like to be kept as pets. I have a better idea: You'll be turning three soon, so perhaps Mummy can get you a real pet for your birthday."
"Okay!" Luna kissed her mother on the cheek. "Love you, Mummy."
"I love you too, Lu-Lu. Sweet dreams."
A/N: I could go for some Gingerbread Snorkacks after writing this chapter. Also, I imagine when Pandora died that tradition went with her.
