It was early in the morning and the platoon and Fuyuki were gathered watching TV as they were slowly waking themselves up more.
"Breaking news, the Pekoponian and Keronian couple that had captured the hearts of Keron has ended in tragedy today. A witness on the scene had seen corporal Giroro beaten to death by his Pekoponian Fiancee Natsumi Hinata. The woman has been arrested and released the following photographs which are graphic so if there are any children in the room tell them to leave now" the anchor woman explained.
a picture of Giroro lying bruised and beaten on a hospital bed flashed on to screen and broke the hearts of all who saw it. Never before had they seen there teammate this battered.
"Natsumi Hinata will be put to death for her crimes and the treaty will be terminated" the News anchor said in disgust at the pink haired girl's actions.
"Giroro" Keroro whispered, he's been on the beating end of Natsumi before but this was different. There was some real damage done here from what he could see.
"Sis would never do this!" Fuyuki shouted defensively, there was no way Natsumi would ever do that.
"of course, you as someone who has never been on the receiving end of her brute rage would defend her kukuku" Kururu replied, though even he had to admit it did seem odd.
"But she'd never try to kill anyone let alone Giroro!" Fuyuki argued. He refuses to believe it he knows Natsumi better then anyone, in his heart he has no question about her innocence.
"I agree with Fuyuki, Natsumi can be violent but this? I know Natsumi would never do this" Keroro agreed back. Fuyuki felt glad to know he wasn't the only one questioning this narrative.
"Here to say a few words Major General Draruru" spoke the TV once again.
"This is exactly what I tried to warn Keron about when this whole mess started, Pekoponians can't be trusted, how many of our men have to die for you people to get it. If we let Pekoponians in they will walk all over us, we will become second class citizens on our own planet. The universe is a cruel place, and Keronians only have ourselves to rely on against monsters like Pekoponians
I don't know if you've seen a Pekoponian in person but they are huge roughly 3-5 keronianians tall, they can effortly kill any Keronian if they wanted to" a dark blue Keronian said darkly from the television screen.
"I see you've seen the news" Garuru said sternly at the door "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't take Natsumi's Brother like she took mine" He held up the gun pointing to Fuyuki's head. He felt like such a terrible brother, he was supposed to be looking out for him and he only helped the cruel woman get closer. He failed as a brother and his poor judgement cost Giroro's his life.
"Natsumi's innocent!" Keroro asserted standing in the way of the gun so he couldn't aim for Fuyuki. Sweat dripped down his face hoping that Garuru won't shoot through him.
"Do you have proof? Cause the evidence seems stacked against you" He asked, deep down not hoping his brother wasn't killed by the love of his life. But feelings shouldn't get in the way of facts.
"You know Natsumi, does see seem like the type to hurt someone like Giroro?" Fuyuki tried to reason.
"People can be deceitful, if I'm learnt anything from all my years it's to not trust the enemy" he snaps, maybe if his brother remembered that he'd still be here.
"give us just one day and I bet we can clear her name" Fuyuki said determined. "That's what Giroro would of wanted."
Garuru seemed to think it over, what the boy said was truthful. This is what Giroro would of wanted the chance to clear her name if she was wrongly accused. "Fine, I hope for my brothers sake she is innocent. I will let you form your own investigation." Garuru put his gun down secretly hoping his brothers death wasn't of a broken heart.
"Okay so from what I know from detective shows we need to know when and where was the last time they were seen?" Fuyuki asked.
"I had dropped them off here last afternoon" Garuru stated. Who knows how long after that this occurred.
"dinner" most of the other people their replied, it made sense as dinner was a large group advent.
"I saw them leaving the embassy last night at around 8:30 PM" Dororo spoke up.
"did they tell you where they were going?" Fuyuki asked.
"No, I didn't ask, they just kind of walked by me"
"Well first things first we need to find out where they went and why" Fuyuki stated. "Maybe there are clues around their room?" they ran up the stairs, busting open the door to the empty room, nothing looked out of the ordinary.
"Sarge check the waste basket for a note or something, i'll look under the bed and drawers" Fuyuki ordered.
"Yes sir!" he said with a salute looking at the waste basket, they were only here for a few days how was it so full of crumpled paper?! He pulled out the first one, oh that's how. Giroro was trying and failing to write his wedding vows, each one was as sickly sweet as the last and some he didn't even get past the first sentence. This was going to take for ever to get through.
"I just went through the com link and found this from 9:12 PM, I press" Kururu said pressing his headphones.
"Skull-1 to-" Giroro's panicked voice was abruptly cut off.
"Though that doesn't exactly prove Natsumi's innocence" Kururu stated.
"Why did he write so many!" Keroro whined, he was feeling frustrated over lack of progress and missing his friend. "huh this wasn't written by him" he said noticing a scrunched up note bit further away from him.
"Let me see" Fuyuki said taking the note from him " Giroro, please meet me at the luminous park tonight at 9:00 PM and bring Natsumi -Garuru"
"I never wrote that note, give it here" Garuru said snatching it from the boy. "This isn't my handwriting, is it Natsumis?" Garuru asked seriously, who ever wrote this note had used him to hurt his brother and they were going to pay.
"I just went through a waste basket full of scraped wedding vows by both of them, that handwriting isn't either of theirs." Keroro stated holding out different writing examples.
"The writing on this one also has a different pen tip, you can tell by the size of the strokes" Kururu pointed out "Who ever your mystery writer is wasn't covering his tracks very well"
"So who wrote it?" Fuyuki asked "We need to go to the park to see if there are more clues"
"I can't exactly walk you to a crime-scene in the middle of the day when your expected accomplices to a murder" Garuru deadpanned.
"this seems like the perfect opportunity to try out my new invention kukuku" the weapon materialised in his hands "the Frog it gun, it transforms Pekoponian's in to Keronians"
"Do I even need to ask why such a gun exists?" Garuru asked confused, why would anyone make a species changing gun that changes the enemies to blend in with you and not the other way around?
"Best if you don't, it was from another poorly planned invasion that never saw the light of day kukuku" Kururu laughed.
Fuyuki wishes he could enjoy his new Keronian form but he had more important matters at hands, one of his friends was dead and he's certain his sister was framed for his murder.
What they were expecting to be a crime-scene wasn't, there was no police tape, no officers guarding it. Even the news said nothing about the location. "Garuru, did you see, his umm" Fuyuki didn''t want to say corpse.
"No I didn't see the body, they told dad and I that they were preforming an autopsy and they already knew who he was and didn't need to be identified" he explained though he had to admit that bit was a bit weird in hindsight.
"Well they didn't close off the crime-scene at all" he looked around "you can see here in the disturbed ground, large footprints, they are too big and rectangular shaped to be a human" he looked around and noticed something by the tree with a large dent in it "there's bits of metal here"
"Looks like Giroro's communication device, look here's the antennae" Keroro said picking up the little skull headed wire.
"there's a bullet too" Dororo stated pointing to the middle of the wreckage.
"could it of come from Giroro?" Fuyuki asked.
"there is no record of Giroro accessing the artillery" Kururu stated.
"And there is no way Natsumi would be able to get a gun if it wasn't through Giroro" Fuyuki reasoned.
"So what your saying is someone murdered my brother and framed it on Natsumi?" Garuru asked this sounded insane. "what would be their motive?"
"I'm not even sure he's dead?" Fuyuki stated unsure. "Why would you beat someone to death if you have a gun? And look around there's no blood from a gunshot wound" he put his finger to his chin thinking. "Who ever did this I think was trying to stop the treaty from taking affect."
"if that's the case we've got to get them back and prove once and for all Natsumi didn't kill anyone" Keroro said determined.
Natsumi awoke in a holding cell the first thing she saw was the red keronian siting next to her. "Natsumi, are you okay?" he asked in worry.
"My head really hurts, what happened? Are you okay?" she asked holding her head, it felt like knives were being stabbed into it. "you look really beat up"
"I'll be fine, here, they gave us some water" he handed her a bottle.
"Thanks" she downed half the bottle to try and sooth her poor head.
"As for what happened, we were jumped at the park, someone planned an ambush for us" he explained.
"Any idea of why or who?" she asked worried.
"I'm sorry" he said in sorrow his eyes to the ground.
"Sorry for what?" she asked worried.
"For failing to protect you" he couldn't look at her, knowing what was going to happen next. He will keep his promise though, he will not die as long as she needed him but the pain of having to watch her die weighed on him heavily. He couldn't bare to tell her.
"Don't blame yourself, I'm just glad your alright" she hugged him close. And he laid into her side, the army had grant him one last request, he wanted to be kept alive with Natsumi till her end. He was foolish to think a treaty would ever work, even he was against when he first heard it. They were fighters not lovers and for his stupid heart they will both pay the price.
"I'm sure the stupid frog and the others will find us" Natsumi tried to comfort him.
"I hope so too" Giroro replied, but he isn't sure they will make it in time.
