Chapter 14
Into The Night
It was a crisp December evening in the city of New York. The holiday was over, but lights and Christmas ornaments were still decorating the whole city together. Today was a couple days before New Year. A couple walked hand by hand in the busy street of Manhattan. The man rested their intertwined hands into his pocket as the woman rested her head into his shoulder.
"So, where are you taking me?" Emma asked.
Today was their first official date. Aaron had planned everything perfectly and he intended to keep it a surprise.
"You'll see when we get there." Aaron gave her a smile while she pouted.
It was snowing and she kinda hated the idea of getting her dress all wet, but she couldn't be mad at him on their first date so she gave up,"Fine." She muttered.
He chuckled a little at her, she was obviously sulking and he found that cute. Oh, she will be all smiling when we get there. He thought.
"We're here." Aaron stopped at a small building.
It doesn't look like a restaurant or an apartment. It looked like some old small abandoned shop from the outside.
She raised her eyebrows and faced him, "Please tell me you're kidding."
"I'm not?"
"What?" She asked in disbelief.
Why would they go to such a place on their first date? She asked herself.
Aaron left a giggle after he saw her bewildered expression, "Let's go inside."
Emma was still puzzled by this, but she reluctantly went inside the small shop.
A man greeted them, "Do you have a reservation?"
"Yes, two party under the name Goralnik." He replied politely.
The man then checked his notebook before letting them in, "We have the table ready for you, Sir. Follow me."
They then followed the man and entered a room that was previously covered with black full-sized curtain. As soon as they entered the room they gasped. There was only a single table in the room. It was set with candles and a vase of white lilies on top of it. A bucket of ice and red wine was set next to it. The room was dominated in the color of white and cream and there was a large window which showed a small garden full of fruits and vegetables. There was also a small fountain surrounded by flowers in the middle of it. It was a greenhouse connected to the room.
"It's beautiful." Emma managed to say as they sat on their chairs.
"You like it?"
She diverted her attention to Aaron and smiled, "I love it. Thank you."
He took her hand and gently stroked it, "I'm glad you like it."
The waiter then came in to pour them the wine.
"Don't we have to order?" She asked after the waiter just left without handing them a menu.
He shook his head, "Nope. It's a full course meal. I've ordered everything before."
"Really? What kind of restaurant is this?"
"Well, the chef is a client of mine. The restaurant only served two tables per day, one at a time. He managed to slip us into one after I told him about my plan. It usually took you up to three months to book a table." He explained.
She was smiling brightly the whole time, "Wow. You did a lot of effort on this date, aren't you?"
He nodded proudly, "Only the best for Emma Green-Geller."
She giggled at him calling her by her full name.
Just then a music played in the room. It was Adele's song, the one they had their first dance at Ben's wedding.
She raised her eyebrows, intrigued at the small details he had prepared. First, the white lilies and now the songs. He was so romantic and she wondered if he always was.
Soon after their dinner was served. They were both talking and giggling for the entire time. They talked about their childhood, the memories they've shared. Knowing their history, the date went well, without any awkward questions the first date usually has. It was really nice and both of them were happy.
"Tonight was amazing." Emma said as they made way in front of her apartment's door.
Aaron nodded and smiled, "It does."
"So..." She started.
"So..." He copied and they giggled.
"You want to come in?" She asked.
He raised his eyebrows in amusement, "Isn't Erica inside?"
She shook her head and smiled seductively, "No one is home."
They then locked their gaze. He slowly leaned in and then he pressed his lips into hers. She gladly returned the kiss, deepened the kiss, and let his tongue in. Emma was struggling to grab a key inside the purse and turned the key in without their lips apart, but sheeventually managed to open it. Aaron slammed the door with his feet as they continued to kiss. His hands started to explore her back until her butt, while her hands that were rested into his neck made their way to his back and gently stroked it up and down. Things were heating up really fast as they began to undress each other, starting from their coats. After their coats fell off, their lips parted just a few seconds to catch a breath. He managed to stare at her in her gorgeous red spaghetti strap dress before they continued their kiss. She was gorgeous, he thought. She then led him into her bedroom and started to unbutton his dress shirt. He was doing the same thing with her dress. Soon after they were both almost naked, leaving them with their underwear. He gently put her into her bed, with him on top of her. Not long after they were both naked and spent the passionate night for the first time.
The next morning, she opened her eyes slowly and found a sleeping creature on her side. She smiled and rested her head into his bare chest as she pulled out the sheets to cover their naked body. He slowly opened his eyes and smiled.
"Good morning." He murmured.
She held her chin up so that she could face him, "Good morning."
He gently stroked her hair as they enjoyed their first morning together, "You look so beautiful in the morning."
She smiled, "You look so handsome in the morning." She replied with the same sweet tone.
They chuckled a little at their cheesiness.
"Do you want me to fix you up with breakfast?"
He raised his eyebrows, "You can cook?" He asked in disbelief.
She laughed, "If preparing a cereal called cooking, then, yes."
He giggled, "I knew it. I'll cook some french toast for us."
He stood up and put on his clothes, she followed right after.
"So, my office will have a New Year's Eve party. I was wondering if you would come?" She asked as he began to cook a pancake.
"Sure." He replied with a smile.
...
New Year's Eve
The office party was held in the office's hall. Emma arrived with Aaron with their hands linked into each other, followed by Erica with Lucas on her arms.
"Well, this is fancy." Aaron blurted.
"What?" Emma asked with a rather loud voice because of the loud music the DJ was playing.
"Nothing! Do you want me to grab you a drink?" He asked loudly.
She nodded and smiled, "Thank you!"
Erica then stood next to Emma as Lucas and Aaron went to grab drinks for their girlfriends.
"Hey.. How's the thing going between you and Lucas?" Emma asked.
"It's great." Erica smiled from ear-to-ear, "We actually planning to go to Vermont next weekend."
Emma raised her eyebrows in amusement, "Really?" Erica nodded, "That soon, huh?"
"Yep. He's great. Y'know?" Emma nodded before Erica continued, "The other day he took us ice skating in front of Rockefeller Center and had dinner right after. We had a really great time together. And do you know what the best part is?"
"What?" Emma asked curiously.
"He loves cheese! And not only regular cheese! He likes blue cheese!" Erica said excitedly.
Emma was bewildered, "And that's great because?"
Erica has this quirk she couldn't understand sometimes. Why would she get so worked up on a cheese? She thought.
Erica gave her best duh! look to Emma, "It's blue cheese! Not everyone likes it! And as a future chef I'm glad he appreciates food in that kind of degree."
"Ah.. Okay." Emma giggled a bit at Erica's enthusiasm.
"There you go." Aaron handed Emma her drink and Lucas handed Erica's.
"What are you girls talking about?" Lucas asked.
"Erica just told me that you two are going to Vermont this weekend?" Emma asked.
"Yeah, actually my parents have a cabin down there." He paused, "Here's an idea. Why don't you two join us?"
Emma took a glance to Aaron who was smiling, "Are you sure? I mean I didn't want to disturb you two."
"It's okay. Right, Er?" Lucas asked as he rested his hand on her waist.
"Sure! It will be fun!" Erica said.
"Really?" Emma asked and both Erica and Lucas nodded.
Emma then diverted her attention toward Aaron after realizing that she hasn't even asked him yet, "Can we come next weekend?"
Aaron nodded and smiled, "Sure."
"Great! Then we can all go together using Aaron's car. Right, sweetie?" Emma asked.
"Yeah, that will be great." Aaron replied.
"Yay!" Erica squealed.
Not long the two couples went their separate way. Erica and Lucas were talking to his coworkers, while Emma and Aaron were dancing in the middle of the dance floor.
"Hey, I was wondering if you want to go to my house tomorrow night." Emma said.
"The one in Scarsdale or the one I slept in the other day? Because if it's the one I slept in the other day, I don't think we have to wait until tomorrow." Aaron joked which earned him a playful slap on his chest.
"Ha-ha." She laughed sarcastically, "My dad is cooking dinner for us. Ben and Hailee will be there too."
"Okay, sure." He paused, "Should I bring something? A wine perhaps?"
She shook her head, "You don't have to."
"Anything your dad might like?"
"Why would you want to bring something my dad would like?" She asked curiously.
"Well, because your dad hates me!"
She chuckled, "He is not."
"He is! See.. The other day when we were in Boston, I could have sworn he stared at me so intensely it could pierce through a thick concrete!"
She giggled before she replied, "Alright then perhaps you can bring him some white wine. He would love that." She paused. "Oh, and make sure to dress nicely. That got a point from my mom."
He chuckled, "From your mom or from you?" He raised his eyebrows.
"Both." She replied with a grin.
"Then I have to do some shopping tomorrow."
"I'll go with you!" She squealed in joy at the word 'shopping'.
He giggled at her demeanor, "Okay."
Their conversation was interrupted by the DJ.
"Alright people! The New Year is almost here! Let's begin the countdown!"
10...
They locked their gaze.
9...
She rested her hands into his shoulder.
8...
He placed his hands securely on her waist.

He leaned in.

She closed her eyes.

He pressed his lips against her.

They deepened their kiss.
"HAPPY NEW YEAR!" The crowd cheered.
They broke off their kiss and leaned against each other's forehead as their eyes locked in a loving gaze.
"Happy New Year." He whispered.
She whispered back, "Happy New Year."
She leaned in and they kissed once more.
...
A few weeks later.
She looked at the clock on her phone.
"3 minutes.." She mumbled as she sat on top of the toilet seat. Her legs were shaking the whole time as she held a stick in her hand.
"1 minute.." She sighed and began to pace the bathroom.
"Come on..Please..please..." She mumbled to herself.
Time's up.
She took a deep breath then took a look at the stick.
Two lines.
"Shit." She muttered under her breath.
She sat down at the floor as tears started to stream from her eyes. She then rested her hand on her now flat stomach and whispered, "I'm pregnant."
To be continued.
