Chapter 11
Dash, Kwan and Tucker stood guard and then heard the sound of Star, Valerie and Paulina coming out of their tent and headed towards the fire pit. Valerie poured out three cups of tea and handed two of them to Star and Paulina.
--
The boys peaked from the bushes and smiled. They pulled back and whispered together a plan for the girls. Dash walked first, but Tucker wanted to go first which turned into a fight between the two and caused them all to tumble right out of the bushes.
--
Dash growled and raised his fist but then stopped when Paulina asked, "Uh Dash? Is everything alright?"
--
"No…Uh…I mean yes!" Dash said and began to improvise the plan.
--
He patted Kwan on the back and continued, "You see…..Kwan here has always had a dream."
--
"A dream?" Star asked.
--
"A dream?" Kwan asked confused.
--
"A dream." Dash confirmed.
--
"But I…" Kwan began to say, but Dash nudged him which made him realise what he was doing and said with a smile, "Oh yeah! That dream."
--
"A dream of seeing a small village in the middle of nowhere, by the moonlight." Dash continued.
--
Star and Paulina smiled and Star asked, "How can we help?"
--
"Well…if your highnesses would consent to come with us to the village, we could still guard you and Kwan can have his dream." Dash answered and even though Star and Paulina were all for it, Valerie had her doubts and didn't want to get into trouble.
--
"This could be my one chance to be like other guys." Kwan said.
--
The girls pleaded with their older sister, "Can we Val? / Please! / Please Valerie!"
--
Valerie sighed and smiled as she answered, "Sounds like fun."
--
Valerie and Star cheered and hugged their sister who joined in. Dash then gestured for them to be quiet so they wouldn't wake up Danny. The boys each offered an arm to the girls and began to head off for the village.
"I've never noticed we were so different!" Wes continued to rant to Dora. "It's like I don't even know him."
--
Dora then noticed the Princesses and the boys heading off and suddenly smirked and said, "Well…what do you know about that?"
--
"I mean I know he likes to do things by the book, but can't he for once bend the rules?!" Wes continued with his back turned.
--
"Ah speaking of bending rules…" Dora said as she walked back over to her seat and grabbed a few nuts.
--
"You know, relationships are easy when everything runs nice and smooth…." Wes continued, but then Dora interrupted after eating a nut, "Oh Wes. Nice and smooth just ran out of camp."
--
Wes stopped and turned as he asked, "What?"
--
"Say did you know almonds, rice and milk are part of a complete breakfast?" Dora said, trying to change the subject.
--
"Dora!" Wes pressed.
--
"I'm just trying to tell you the Princesses went AWOL." Dora finally admitted.
--
"Where are the guards?" Wes asked, now worried about the Princesses as he grabbed his sword and strapped it to his belt.
--
"Showing them the way." Dora answered.
--
"They're together?!" Wes asked completely shocked.
--
Dora hummed and nodded in response. Wes then asked to clarify, "Together, together?"
--
"Don't you understand Chinese?" Dora said sarcastically.
--
Wes wasted no more time and ran outside and grabbed his horse's reins. Dora peaked out from the tent and asked, "Hey, what about Danny-boy?"
--
"I think I can handle this one on my own." Wes answered as he began heading off. "Danny's on a short fuse as it is. Just do me a favour and make sure nothing wakes him up."
--
Dora smirked as Wes rode off and said, "You can count on me."
--
A few minutes later, Dora was playing music using one man band instruments doing everything she could to wake Danny up, knowing that this would be the final bit she would need to fully break Danny and Wes up. Cujo ran inside and his jaw dropped at the sight.
--
Dora stopped and saw that Danny was still deep asleep. She growled, she then readied her symbols once more for a huge clash that would wake him up. Cujo grabbed her tail and tried to pull her away but it didn't work and the made a huge crash noise.
--
Danny yelped as he woke up and Dora and Cujo quickly ran out of the tent before he could see them. Danny got dressed and changed into his ghost form, standing outside the tent ready to fight. When he could see no enemy in sight, he then noticed Dash, Kwan and Tucker gone.
--
"Where are the guards? The Princesses!" Danny quickly ran inside the Princesses tent, only to trip over the small desk and knock out the letter that Paulina had wrote.
--
He put the desk back and saw the girls weren't in the tent. He was about to walk out when he felt the paper attached to his foot. He picked it up and read it, especially the last part, my duty is to my heart.
--
He then began to think that Wes had a part in all this. He ran over to Wes's tent and found he was gone. He turned to see the footprints heading towards the tent.
--
He changed back into his human form, mounted his horse and began heading to the village. Dora snuck away in his side bag and said to Cujo with a smile, "Get your ticket Cujo, the shows about to begin."
In the village, the girls and boys were in awe at the small festival the people and ghosts were having. They watched the parade of musicians, acrobats and everything. Star saw all kinds of different dishes and foods going at the stalls. One thing she loved doing at the palace was sneak into the kitchens and learn how to cook.
--
Kwan looked at a food stall and smelled the fresh ginger and said, "This ginger would go very well with dumplings."
--
"I love dumplings." Star said and presented her own handmade dumplings from the basked she had made back at the camp.
--
The two sat down at a table and enjoyed each other's company as Kwan asked, "So you like to cook?"
--
Star nodded and answered, "Back at the palace, I would sneak into the kitchens to watch the staff cook. Then when no-one was around, I would practice cooking. Father caught me one night and he wasn't mad, in fact he enjoyed a chocolate cake I made."
--
"Your dad sounds like a wonderful man and is a great Emperor." Kwan said.
--
The two continued to smile lovingly at each other and held each other's hands.
Dash and Paulina were walking around the town and then stopped when they saw a guy get taken down in a wrestling match by a muscular green looking ghost. The man the offered, "Is there anyone who can take on the undefeated champion, Gigantor!"
--
Dash looked at Paulina and made up his mind. He removed his shirt and handed it to her and walked onto the platform. Paulina was worried, compared to him he was smaller than the ghost. The ghost wasted no time and body slammed right on top of him.
--
"DASH!" Paulina shouted in worry, while Gigantor laughed and began counting down.
--
However, he was suddenly picked up by Dash right underneath him and threw him right off the stage, winning the match. The entire crowd cheered and Paulina shouted, "Dash, you're my hero!"
--
Dash smiled back and a few minutes later, they came to a toy vendor. He then noticed Paulina looking at the plush panda toy and smiled.
--
Dash gave the money to the man and said, "I want that one."
--
The man pulled down the panda and handed it to Dash who then handed it to Paulina and said, "This is for you."
--
Paulina smiled back and gave Dash a kiss on the cheek as she said, "Thank you." Just than Paulina spotted a crying little ghost boy that lost a festival game, she bent down to the ghost child's height and gave him the stuffed panda. The little ghost child shyly took it and hugged it with a smile as he giggled. "You have a kind heart Paulina." Dash smiled at her kindness to the little ghost child.
Valerie and Tucker continued to walk with each other, Tucker tried to make her laugh with his jokes but nothing seemed to work. They stopped at a fireworks stall as he once again told another joke, "Okay! What does Attila say when he walks through the door? Hun! I'm home!"
--
But Valerie didn't laugh and groaned a little. Tucker then looked down in disappointment with himself and said as he leaned against the stall, "I give up. I guess I'm not as funny as I think."
--
One of his PDA'S became over heated and touched the fuse of a small batch of fireworks and exploded, causing him to jump in fright. He stopped and made a funny looking face which suddenly instantly caused Valerie to laugh.
--
She tried to stop but she couldn't help but think it was funny. Tucker smiled and said, "You got a very cute laugh."
--
"You…(giggled)….think so? I hate my laugh!" Valerie said through her laughter.
--
"No! It's adorable! I just thought you didn't have a sense of humour of didn't like technology." Tucker said.
--
That made her stop and then smirk, "What? Of course I've got a sense of humour and I love technology."
--
She grabbed one of his video games and began to press the buttons. Suddenly it beeped and she showed him with pride that she beat his high score.
--
"Woah!" Tucker said impressed and the two of them laughed together and continued walking as they held each other's hands.
Later that evening, the boys and girls all stood together at the bridge, looking at the beautiful reflection of the moon on the river. All of them cuddling close to their partners as they enjoyed the romantic evening they had.
--
"It's so beautiful." Paulina said as he cuddled closer to Dash.
--
"It's the same moon we see at the palace." Valerie said.
--
"No…this one is entirely different." Star said, sighing in bliss.
--
Valerie continued to smile as Tucker held her close and said, "You're right."
--
"I know I've never seen anything like it." The voice of Wes was heard, causing them all to gasp and turned to see Wes standing at the bottom of the bridge with his arms crossed at them.
--
"I'm listening." Wes said, waiting for their explanation.
--
"We….uh….all of….us…." Tucker and Kwan stammered, causing Wes to raise his eyebrow.
--
"Oh boy…." Dash said nervously, knowing the jig was up.
--
"Wes…it's love!" Paulina said with a smile. "Dash and myself, Star and Kwan…."
--
"And myself and Tuckerino….I mean Tucker." Valerie said as she held Tucker's hand.
--
However instead of getting mad, he smiled and cheered for them all which their shared. Wes then said, "I'm so happy for all of you."
--
Their happiness was cut short when Danny suddenly arrived. The boys immediately walked over and stood to attention, knowing that were in trouble. The girls looked down, not knowing what they were going to do.
--
"It's alright. I'll handle this." Wes said to the girls.
--
"I'm so sorry to break up your little party." Danny said to the boys sternly, making them look down in shame.
--
"Ooh…this is gonna be good." Dora said as she and Cujo sat on a branch and watched.
--
Wes walked over and tried to reason, "Danny, before you jump to conclusions let me explain the situation."
--
"Fine! Why don't we start with this?" Danny said, pulling out the letter.
--
Wes was confused but then Paulina admitted, "That letter is mine."
--
"All yours or did you have help?" Danny asked, frowing at Wes when he said that. He opened the letter and read the last part out loud, "And so my dear father, I cannot complete this mission. I have come to realise that my duty is to my heart."
--
He turned to Wes and said, "Now who does that sound like?"
--
"Paulina never meant to send that letter." Star tried explaining.
--
Danny walked over to them and said, "Your Highnesses, you made a vow to be married in Qui Gong. If your father saw you three now, breaking that vow what would he say?"
--
Star, Paulina and Valerie all looked down in shame as they remembered their vow. Danny then turned to the boys and ordered, "You three are to escort the Princesses back to their tents immediately! You are to guard them, you are not to enter their tents and you are not to speak a word to them! Not a word ever! Am I understood?"
--
"Yes sir!" The boys agreed and then bowed their heads in shame.
--
They looked at the girls and they all looked in sadness that their relationships with each other could no longer be. With sad and heartbroken expressions, they began to head back to camp leaving Wes and Danny alone.
--
Speaking of which, Wes turned to see Danny standing there and he was not in a good mood. He had tried once more to reason with him, "Danny, the problem isn't as bad as it seems…."
--
Danny however cut him off and snapped, "The problem Wes is you!"
--
Wes gasped at what he just said, not believing he just said that to him. He continued, "You place your own feelings above everything! Duty, obligations, traditions….it all means nothing to you!"
--
"It means everything to me! My heart tells me my duty and I follow it no matter what." Wes snapped back.
--
Danny growled in annoyance and that's when Wes decided to speak again, "You're a brilliant warrior Danny. You're brave and loyal, but you don't trust your heart. Sometimes I wonder if you even have one."
--
Danny gasped and then frowned again as he said, "This assignment has made it clear. It seems….we are very different people."
--
Wes then realised what he was doing and then said, "Maybe too different."
--
"Fine." Danny said and then headed back to his horse. "We have a mission to complete and then….we'll go our separate ways."
--
Danny then took off heading back to camp leaving Wes alone. He then looked down in sadness and his heart, was now broken. Wes and Danny, were no longer engaged.
